This is one of my absolute favorite sushi places in town. I love to go here for a spicy fix. The service is great, atmosphere is comfortable and the sushi is great and fresh. Prices are good for sushi. I've never had a bad experience here and I have been often.

3.5 stars! Exceeded my expectations. Fresh ingredients and presentation won this sushi spot 3.5 stars. Still, it didn't beat favorite sushi restaurant in terms of menu items, service and ambience. As for the food... My roll was good. It wasn't as delicate as some varieties of the same till I've had in the past. I forget the name but it was the roll without sushi rice and wrapped in cucumber. I recommend this for anyone who loves the roll minus the rice! My dad's bulgogi was tasty but way too oily. If have to say the same for the tempura. It had a great crunch but too much batter and it was very oily. The gyoza was delicious and so was the salmon skin salad.

Had lunch here and was delightedly surprised. I ordered the Hot Night roll, my friend got the Alaskan Orgasm roll. It was a typical sushi lunch, started with miso soup and ended happily full. I would suggest this place to friends, everything tastes fresh and the customer service was great. Check it out!
(4)Trinity N.
I got the japchae and samurai roll. Both were really delicious ! My friend got the beef box and the portion was big . She really enjoyed it as well . Will definitely come back if we're in the mood for sushi!
(4)Gregory A.
Great food, awesome atmosphere, amazing service. Highly recommend this place if you've never been
(5)David K.
Hmm.. was really craving sushi so I read the yelp reviews and decided to come here. I suppose I could compare this to other sushi restaurants in Anchorage, however this is the only one I've been to in Alaska. Therefore, I need to compare this restaurant with my other experiences. I can honestly say, it is not one of the most memorable meals I've had however the service was superb and the wait staff was very friendly. If I had to compare it to my regular sushi restaurant (Torafuku in West LA) it would be a notch (or maybe even two) below that. I'd give a 3+ rating however it would be closer to a 3 than a 4.
(3)Elizabeth K.
The service is fast and friendly and the food is AMAZING. My fiance & I always stop here for dinner when we are in Anchorage. The prices are extremely reasonable & the portion sizes are perfect and exactly what you'd expect for the price. Yum yum yum!
(4)Angela M.
Absolutely amazing!! Great food, nice decor, clean, friendly. The rolls are large about 9 pieces instead of 6
(5)Rufio B.
One of the best sushi joints in anchorage. The staff is really friendly. The food is outstanding. I just didn't like the music.. But who goes to a sushi place for the music, right. Loved it.
(5)Kristy J.
One of my fav sushi spots in town. Also the closest. :)
(4)Jason N.
Excellent restaurant. The food is good and the service is usually excellent. The price is reasonable, at least for Alaska standards. You should try the House Special Roll. Easily the best dish they make, at least in my opinion.
(5)Micaela B.
Very good sushi! Kind of expensive but good food and nice atmosphere.
(4)Sandy J.
I was very impressed when I walked into this place. They did a great job decorating it. I only ordered sushi, so that's all I can really write about. The only complaint I have was that they didn't use enough rice for the rolls. There were parts were you could see the seaweed. When I'd pick it up to dip it into the soy sauce, the rice would fall off. The sushi was good and fresh though.
(3)Wolf X.
This place gets 4 solid stars for service, food presentation, taste, quality, and seating. The missing star is due to the fact that the price is a little high for some items. I was not a fan of the Alaska orgasm roll because I felt the flavor of the fish was overwhelmed. However, I was truly impressed with the chirash zushi which for $20 was visually appealing, delicious, and filling. I will definitely be returning when the mood for fish strikes me. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Jenn and I had a short work week this week, and really did not feel like cooking last night, or for that matter driving very far to get something good to eat. We thought about Itchiban, but the traffic sucked so that was out. Then we remembered Samurai Sushi up the road from us. We are usually loyal customers to restaurants we love, but sometimes we make exceptions. I am really glad we did this time. Samurai Sushi is nicely decorated inside, with beautiful Japanese paintings that I found fascinating. We were greeted by our hostess who wore a traditional kimono and spoke very softly. We were seated at a window seat, and began to check out the menus...First off I have never seen that many Sushi Rolls in my life! 2nd, the dinner options were great. We opted for the California Roll as an appetizer, and ordered the Chicken Terryaki Dinner and Jenn ordered the Beef Terryaki. Score on all 3! The roll was very tasty, and the WASBI KICKED ASS! I am not much on Sushi, but I will be ordering that roll again! I also saw a California Roll, New York Steak Combo for 21.95...I will be trying that! Dinners come with Miso Soup, and a salad that has a Mandarin orange dressing. Most interesting!! Give this place a try!!!!
(3)Destiny R.
Service was good and the sushi rolls are delicious!
(4)Alex H.
Samurai is a pretty fun spot. A good selection of traditional and locally-inspired items. The service has always been pretty quick and attentive, and definitely very friendly. The food comes comes out fast and is always great. I'm a sucker for engaging marketing, so I've always tried the locally themed items and have never been disappointed. The Alaska, Alaska Orgasm, Elmendorf, and Sleeping Lady are all great. It's close to the base and I've spoken with a number of servicemen and women who insist that Samurai is their favorite in town. Considering the number of options available, that definitely says something. Food prices are pretty standard for the area, but drinks are on the low end for sure. Sodas are $1.50 which is pretty much unheard of around here, beers start at 4.95, and sake at I believe 6.50. All pretty reasonable. They have party trays which are decently priced and offer good selections, as well as children's options, both of which aren't always available at some of the competitors' places. Definitely worth a visit!
(4)Gene A.
Been eating here for a few years. Consistently very good food and service. Enjoy the sushi and other menu items. Highly recommend.
(4)Guy B.
Had I only had the sushi I would have given the full 5 stars, but I went and ordered from the kitchen as well.... Had the Kalbi combo lunch. Obviously the tempura here is shipped in and the vegetables were frozen....they made a decent attempt at heating then but failed.... The Kalbi was great! Soup great! All 3 rolls we ordered were excellent! The sushi chef was an artist, comedian and all around knew what he was doing.
(4)Brandy K.
I love this place. They have changed owners since I first began going there but the sushi is larger then most places, and consistently good. I always get the "Alaskan Orgasm Roll" it is so good, and comes with a small salad. I'm always full afterwards and never order anything else because I love that roll so much. Service is fast and polite. Be forwarned though, if you go close to closing and hang out, they will drop the heat in the building and turn up the music to drive you out. Still highly recommend this place though. They have a ton of special rolls, the "Hot nights roll" is very good too.
(4)Long L.
Always got great service from this place. The food is amazing. Was one of my favorite places to go to back in Alaska.
(5)Marie W.
My favorite place for sushi in my 3 years here. My favorites are probably the Hot Night Roll and the 007 Roll. We went here when my parents where up for a nice dinner out and they are always great. Friendly and helpful on helping choose the perfect roll. And of course tasty. Mmm Mmm Mmmm
(4)Travis R.
I've only eaten here two times but now that I live on east side I'll be eating here a lot more often. Food is always great and the service is some of the best I've experienced in Anchorage.
(4)Adam H.
My friends and I have started coming here weekly it is that good. The service is soo friendly, and we've yet to order a roll that wasn't exceptional. Easily my favorite sushi joint in Anchorage. My favorite rolls: potato, elmendorf, hot night, and Viagra.
(5)Amber R.
Hands down, best sushi in town. Order the Alaska Orgasm roll. You wont be sorry.
(5)Brandee Z.
The sushi is amazing! Lobster roll, potato roll, crunch roll, tempura!! Mmm great food. The service is friendly, it's a an absolute madhouse during the lunch rush. Not a highly recommended time to sit down and enjoy during the weekday. Other than that, it's never a dull moment at Samurai sushi.
(4)Amanda C.
TL;DR: they serve gas station quality sushi, DO NOT COME HERE I don't understand how this place has earned a 4 star review. Rice tastes old and as if it has been sitting out. Fish is chewy and flavorless. You would think since we are located in the pacific we would have DECENT fish. But here, no. I ordered an Alaskan Amber and the beer was FROZEN and the bottle was dirty. Our waitress was condescending and had slow service. She didn't bring out the sushi menu until we asked for it. The menu is overpriced. Especially considering they serve gas station quality sushi and the portions are small and not filling. We ended up going next door to Taco Bell afterwards. Out waitress had a hard time understanding that we wanted the check split and had to change the tickets multiple times. Will never return and never recommend this place to anyone.
(1)Shantelle P.
This is one of my favorite sushi places to eat! Get the Alaska Orgasm and Hot Night roll!!! It's so good! Service is great!
(4)Barb H.
Seated our group of 7 no problem. Gave us the miso, on par with anywhere else. I was studying the menu for too long and my miso had separated, the waitress saw that and came and stirred it with my chopsticks. We had ice water which was refilled once. We ordered the Crunch Roll: meh, the Potato roll (has hashbrown type of stuff on the outside, fried): everyone else loved it, I thought it was ok. Basically fried fair food flavor. We also had the Crazy Scallop which was delish, Red Snow: yum, the Anchorage Roll: yum, and the Mt Sleeping Lady which was my favorite. One of us had the chicken fried rice which got shared around and seemed to be pretty well received. Came to about 85.00 plus tip. Expensive but tasty. Recommend.
(4)Loren R.
I eat a lot of sushi in my travel industry career. I go to ear here as much as my favorite place in town ( not here). I go here because it is a great mix of fast service, great price, and descent sushi. I must mention that they dump copious quantities of sauces from their many ketchup containers on otherwise good rolls. I always ask for them to skip the sauce. That way I can enjoy the sushi. If they squirted 1/4 the amount of sauce on top. It would be perfect. You get what you pay for good sushi. Good price. Real fast service.
(3)Avery K.
went here new years eve night with my boyfriend and I pretty much hated it, it wasn't packed which was good but the menu description is too vague for people who maybe don't know anything about Japanese food, our waitress was near impossible to understand, and she was pressuring my boyfriend to order somthing different from what he told her he wanted, telling him what taste he would prefer, not knowing anything about him of course... so then we ordered drinks which she never brought so when she went past our tablea little later (she felt as if she was ignoring us a bit) he tried to get her attention and mentioned how we ordered 2 drinks we never got and she waved her hand as she glimpsed at us and continued walking over to another table. I ordered the teriyaki beef to eat and didn't eat all of it because it had that chewy stuff that feels like you're eating cartilage on about half of it, but the veggies that were on the plate were good at least. finally we got the attention of another waitress and she brought us our drinks..needless to say I don't want to come back here really ever again, there's alot of other Japanese places alot better than their below average rude service

What a disappointment! I used to love this restaurant (granted that was 4-5 years ago) I stopped going because I moved across town and it just wasn't very convenient. Deciding that it was time to revive my love for Samurai, I went back. Horrible service, horrible tea (tasted like luke-warm tap water), horrible salad (I recognize the blend, it's massed from costco), horrible miso soup (again, tap water flavor with barely any tofu), the sushi was decent but not good enough to make me come back... ever. They also placed my party in the back forgotten corner with fold up metal chairs even though there were plenty of nice window seats, or even at the bar! I don't know if they have new management, or new chefs... either way I almost don't even feel good giving them one star. It's a sad day when I have to close the book on a favorite Sushi Spot.
(1)Susan K.
Granted, it is a sushi place as the name says - but if you've considered ordering sukiyaki, wipe that consideration out of your thought process. The sushi is halfway decent, but yeah...not so much other items on the menu. *SPOILER ALERT* That $5.50 glass of Cabernet Sauvignon some people order? It's boxed wine. A friend of mine caught a glimpse of the kitchen as the waitress as she was fiddling with the nozzle of the unmistakable Costco-sized packaging in the fridge. My apologies for shattering the facade, Monsieur Fancypants IV. I too, am saddened.
(3)Shanna E.
I like this place, i always get the bulgogi and my husband gets a different roll every time. They are nice and always helpful. price is ok but im from California so i think everything here is expensive.
(4)Starleigh H.
First impression: Hey, this was an old Taco Bell building (y'all know what I'm talking about too, ha!) We've been exploring a bunch of restaurants in our neighborhood, as well as in the city of Anchorage (we just moved here from California almost 2 months ago), and I must say, this has been my favorite place so far! Everything on the menu is great, so you can't really go wrong when you order any dish/roll. Was happy to see agedashi tofu on the menu. I ordered it as my appetizer & it reminded me of my favorite spot back home. Their version of the jalapeño popper was also deelish, so try those too. I can't quite remember which rolls we ordered, but note that they're bigger portions (8 BIG pieces, compared to 6). I recommend that you sit @ the bar because its pure entertainment to watch one of the chefs knock out orders in lightning speed time! He'll have 5+ plates lined up and have the orders made in what seems like 10.8 seconds! If you happen to be driving down Muldoon, check this place out! I can already tell with one visit that this will be a regular spot for me & the hubs.
(5)Sylvia M.
They didn't have the oysters I wanted. Most (95%) of the selection of sushi is raw, unless you go for traditional CA roll or bento boxes. The sushi boat did look good. I told my family they would like it if they came to visit cause of the huge selection of fresh/raw fish. The lady who served me was nice and ambiance was nice.
(4)Manny W.
Was served old smelly sashimi after many visits. Seriouly, no chef should have served that. Sushi was equally bad.
(1)Shelby G.
My husband would come here for lunch and raved about how good it was- so he took me out for dinner. The sushi was wonderful and the staff was sweet. We ordered the rainbow roll, crunch roll, and salmon & avocado roll! It took about 20 mins for our food to arrive to the table, which was quick considering the restaurant was packed and the sushi is freshly made. The wait staff was not assigned to a certain table, so they would come by if they noticed your drink was empty. I would consider this a lunch restaurant
(4)Joanna A.
Best lobster roll in anchorage!! Also best chicken fried rice I've ever had!!
(5)jamie l.
The kids meals rock - I want to order them myself but they're very strict about the age. The rolls are beautiful and mostly excellent. Sitting at the sushi bar often gets you complimentary items. The atmosphere is lovely. It's usually packed during peak hours. The service is great. Miso soup and salad is always tasty. Watch out for that dragon that's a bit low in some areas. People often duck around it v Take out is excellent as well.
(5)Scott S.
Good sushi and reasonably priced. Service was really great. We ordered 15 pieces of salmon sashimi and a few of them were not as fresh as the rest, but overall it was a great experience and I would recommend it to friends and would definitely go back again myself.
(4)Ellen R.
Very clean and welcoming staff. Food was great, however the prices are crazy ridiculous! I can find other places in Anchorage with better prices and just as good sushi. It's good for a special occasion.
(4)A R.
Samurai is still the best sushi I've had, I'm out of Alaska and I cant wait to get back and get lunch there.

**This update concerns the recent groupon we used yesterday, the $20 for $40 worth of food, which takes them down a star. As we got sat and I informed the short brown haired hostess that we have a groupon and she stated to present the groupon when paying. We ordered two rolls, the 007 and hot night roll, as well as the Monkey Brain appetizer. Our total bill came out to $36.35. We present the groupon at pay time, as was instructed by the person showing up to the table, which was the same lady ringing us up. She told us that we had to buy $40 worth of food in order to use the groupon and would have to use it another time. Huh? Um, no it doesn't say that anywhere on the groupon. So finally I ask to speak to the manager after going back and forth, and that lady started to fix the ticket, all the while peroxide girl kept trying to say, "But it's under $40 dollars." Thinking all was well and we were about to leave manager says, "That will be $.35." Again, huh? Was I being charged to use the groupon?! No she added $4 to make it $40.35 instead of adding $3.65 to make it an even $40, and expected us to pay the difference. Um, no, take it from the tip I left on the table. The sushi is good, though the specialty rolls seem a bit heavier than most, but I still will come again though not with a groupon. The groupon ruined the experience, which left a sour taste in my mouth. I'm starting to dislike groupon because it's such a hassle with some places.
(3)Dinahlee S.
This place is fire. I always order the Mt Sleeping Lady roll and my boyfriend always gets the Yummy Yummy roll. Great people/staff, amazing food, and awesome service. Miso soup is always on point as well, definitely a must go!!
(5)Katie C.
Great sushi and friendly staff. The kids meals are huge and very good!! Prices are pretty fair. We've been in twice for dinner and both times have had good food and service.
(4)Tasha L.
Went here for a late lunch today. Was seated promptly; the place had a good vibe. Unfortunately, the service fell flat. I ordered tea and it never came. I ordered a Monkey Brain appetizer (described as tuna and mushroom but tasted more like pork--a little odd) and it came out the same time as the roll I ordered (sun star moon roll). I felt like an idiot as a single person with an entire table of food in front of me. Kind of a bummer. The appetizer was served on a bed of dressed lettuce--which, as a sushi amateur, I wasn't sure if I was supposed to eat! I tried a little, but wasn't impressed with the taste, so just set it aside. The sun star moon roll was GREAT! Very fresh and tasty. Prices were on the high side--$31 for just the appetizer and roll with tip. I'm not sure the roll was enough to make me want to come back...
(3)Katie B.
After a not-so-hot experience here a year ago, gave it another shot. SO glad we did! We really enjoyed the staff and their service was friendly. Good thing to know: they put unagi sauce and spicy mayo on almost every roll without mentioning it on the menu. My husband isn't into spicy mayo, so the sushi chef actually made us a half and half type roll, That's so nice and accommodating. Since Sushi & Sushi continues to raise their prices... This recently became the main competition for Ronnie 2 in my book.
(5)Maria K.
Since I was with a large group for dinner, we got a boat, which provided healthy servings of some standard sushi favorites (California Roll, various kinds of Nigiri, seaweed salad, etc.) and was a great foundation for a larger party. My favorites would have to be the Alaskan Roll and the Rock n' Roll that we added to the boat. The servers were friendly and attentive and certainly did a good job of trying to upsell us with additional plates of sushi. I really liked some of the more unique names of their rolls and the large selection of different types of rolls...maybe it's just me, though, but I don't think I will be ordering a Viagra roll any time soon. Nothing particularly stood out to me about this place, but it was good.
(3)Matthew B.
The only sushi place I'll go in anchorage anymore. Service feels rushed sometimes but the sushi is excellent.
(5)Matthew C.
Awesome authentic sushi. .. Staff was super friendly and made sure the experience was amazing. I Jane to say the rolls were not overloaded with rice. .. The presentation was perfect. Soo good I are to much. Food comas are a compliment...Thank u for the great dinner.
(5)Andy S.
It was alright. I had the Cirash Zushi. Basically a bunch of sashimi over sushi rice. Some of the roll names were pretty funny. I think I saw the Viagra roll. But like any other sushi roll place in Anchorage, it's all getting pretty typical. What's the difference betwee a crunch roll here and a crunch roll at some other place? Nadda! My friends noodles were alright. Kinda on the sweet side. The Udon noodles were dec. The Uni I ordered was pretty good cuz they gave me a big piece. Oh...the Cirash actually had decent sized sashimi.
(3)Gretchen A.
As others have commented, it's best to come here for the sushi and not the other items on the menu. The teriyaki combo we got was sub par, and the shrimp fried rice was average (though it did have an ample amount of good size shrimp). We enjoyed the steamed gyoza and the sushi roll we ordered (Crunch Roll) the most. I also liked their side salad - the dressing was delicious! The service was attentive and friendly, the atmosphere is festive and clean. It gets busy after 7pm!
(3)Brian M.
Great and it's close to home.
(3)B W.
Mmmmm love, love, love the sushi and miso soup here. The potato roll and crunch roll are my two favorites, though usually the husband and I try at least one new roll upon each visit. I have yet to try any other type of entree. Out of all the sushi places around town this is by far my favorite.
(5)J C.
Best sushi in town. Service can be spotty though. Favorite rolls are the house special and potato roll. Wish it wasn't located so far--I'd be visiting more often if it were nearby!
(4)Kimberly M.
Love love love this spot. I probably go get sushi from here once a week. I recommend the Crazy Scallop roll and the Snoball roll. Love the service, sitting at the bar and talking to the cooks. Great place.
(5)Timmy L.
Got here on a monday 8pm. Only had 3 other party of customer. Greeted quickly and seated. The decor was nice and unique. Their menu price seem a little cheaper then other sushi spots in town. I went n ordered the spider roll. Girlfriend got the volcano roll. We also got calamari tempura. Got a order of chicken teriyaki to go. Everything was good except the chicken teriyaki. Was just plain n sitting in teriyaki sauce that was thin as water. Service was nice but could of came n refill my water. Overall okay spot. Will give them a shot again since its close by the house. The bill came out to $50.
(3)Hanna K.
My favorite sushi spot.. ever. the AK Orgasm roll... DROOLS, so good. Of course everything else on the menu is great as well. Their salad dressing is refreshing and I just really like their portions since I have a big.. appetite? haha! Not kidding.. What ever happened to their Kimchi Spaghetti?! That used to be my favorite........
(5)Christina D.
Their employees are always quick and ready to refill your drink or ask you if you need anything. They're not pushy and they usually try to remember their customers for the next time you go in. The food can get pricey on some dishes but it really is a must try. Me &&the husband always go for the udon soup and fried rice. They will always try to accommodate for any type of picky eater like my husband.
(4)Amanda F.
When livin in Anchorage my husband and I went to just about every sushi place they offer there. This by far was our favorite. Not just because of the amazing sushi the location was close and the staff are amazing! They remembered us every time we came in and just were so wonderful with our kids. The sushi is great my husband and I always got the hot night roll and tge red snow roll and then we would try a different one all the time! Their kids meal is killer they get so much food it's great priced!
(4)Stephani C.
This place is down the street from my house which is wonderful for when I'm in the mood for sushi and I don't want to drive hella far. It's not bad sushi, although there was more than one time where the freshness of the nigiri was questionable. Which is unacceptable in ALASKA. It'd be nice if they had a bigger sushi menu, too. But I do like the Alaska Orgasm roll and Potato roll. If you want a la carte nigiri, you can ask for a menu from your server.
(3)Martin P.
I enjoy good sushi and there a lot of choices here in Anchorage. I went here for lunch the other day with a friend. Overall - it was outstanding. really very good service. They were quick on the water refills and were very attentive without being obnoxious. The food was great. I had a combo meal where I got some sushi and some chicken and a little tempura. All were great. I also got a sashimi salad which was very good. It is a bit out of the way if you don't live on the East side of town, but worth the trip. Enjoy!
(5)Tris W.
This is becoming one of our favorite sushi spots because of its location & because of their consistency. Some of our favorites include their volcano roll, crunch roll, the sashimi platter (3 different sizes i believe so depending on how hungry you are or how many people you are sharing with) and the Alaska oysters. Yum! Today we tried the hawaiian roll and it was really good. We went there with a big party today for my nephew's birthday and the service was great like always, they were good about refilling our drinks and everything was delicious.
(5)Brandon B.
WOW! This place is great, awesome service, GREAT sushi and wonderful service. Try the potato roll, it was amazing!
(5)Joe E.
Samurai Sushi is my fallback plan for when I want sushi but don't feel like driving across town to Ronnies. The food is good, and the plates are a work of eatable art. If you are on the Eastside this is a good place to grab some food.
(4)Brandi M.
The Hot Night roll is one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life. This place is SO GOOD. Anyone who gives it less than 5 stars is whack.
(5)Jazz S.
This place is always crowded and its full of stuff. The decorations are over the top, and I usually feel like I have to duck when I walk in. Service is quick, but half of our order was forgotten (my half) and there wasn't even an apology. I was there with a friend and he was finished eating before I even got my food. It was hard to get a hold of someone for me to tell them that my food hadn't shown up. Presentation is half of eating sushi, and their presentation is FABULOUS. They really sauce up their rolls, though, so it kind of makes you wonder about the quality of fish they're using. Next time I'll have to have their sushi or their sashimi. Price is reasonable, and it looks like they only have one shokunin and the rest of the guys behind the bar are prep or in training. This place is great for a bite, but plan on spending some time here. I've had sushi at every place in Anchorage and this is on my return to list :)
(3)Angie B.
its just OK.. its pricey.. and just ok.. it was close to my house so i thought id give it a shot. id go back.. but i now know what to expect.
(3)Kati S.
While this is probably my favorite sushi joint because let's me honest the food and sushi is awesome! It does kind of bother me that they offer 'military discount' but, it's only to currently active. The retired, injurded and family's don't count. Which to me is complete crap. I really enjoy Sushi Ya As well the only thing they are missing is Samurai Sushi's coconut shrimp which is excellent. The service here is either a hit or miss and it is always is busy and loud. If your tall the decorations could be a bit much because they hang low from the ceiling and at times can be rather overwheelming. I just know everytime I come in here the service is hit or miss but the food will be excellent.

i've been having a sushi fix lately, and made a habit of always trying out new sushi restaurant in town. well, today's was Samurai Sushi at muldoon. as i walked in, i was greeted by a japanese hostess with a pleasant japanese accent. i was pleasantly surprised that i may have hit an authentic sushi place. thus far, decor 3+, music 4+, service 4 i really have to comment on their music. nice jazzy music with reddish localized light on each table. later, i've noticed few drops of water on the garnish that made it look fresh and shiny. definitely, the chef cares about ambience and mood. then the food part. sadly, so far, i haven't found any place carrying hirame. When i saw the usuzukuri on the menu, i was certain they had hirame. nope. they made it with tai, instead... so... i asked for suggestion of something light.... and immediately turned towards the back of pages listing salads. urrrrrg.... no... i'm sorry, it was me asking for something light....? so i ordered sashimi combo. presentation was nice... but i could kind of tell from the radish cut... little thick for a good sushi chef...? quality of fish was average... i'd suggest Kumagoro in downtown for better quality. miso soup was compliment... i was pleased with fresh green onions floating in good amount... none dried up... but was little too sweet... maybe little too much mirin? their green tea was prepared good. i haven't tried any of their rolls because i was too full already. and possibly their lunch or dinner combination could be good... because usually kitchen and sushi bar chef's different. but, i'm not sure... from the broth miso soup was made, i guess their teriyaki would be too sweet... nice, thoughtful try on decor, but it's little eclectic... actually of too many culture... i've noticed korean royal crown or the sushi bar case, some modern touch here, and some japanese touch there... it was rather sad after so many nice try on the ceiling, lighting fixtures, and nice scented candles.... music was good and at a good noise level.. it's a good place where you don't feel awkward eating alone... comfy even.

I used to come here quite a bit when I lived down the way. Recently I came by the old haunt to get something familiar. Sadly, only the decor and one of the waitresses. Cleanliness seems to have taken a break while I was there, and the most disruptive unsupervised child was allowed to sit at the bar next to me. So you may go ahead and assume that my meal was all the better. (sarcasm) I will give it that it was that one time that was not up to par. Hopefully it is better next time and I can rewrite a review.

This is one of my favorite sushi places to eat! Get the Alaska Orgasm and Hot Night roll!!! It's so good! Service is great!

Recommend.

Good price. Real fast service.

went here new years eve night with my boyfriend and I pretty much hated it, it wasn't packed which was good but the menu description is too vague for people who maybe don't know anything about Japanese food, our waitress was near impossible to understand, and she was pressuring my boyfriend to order somthing different from what he told her he wanted, telling him what taste he would prefer, not knowing anything about him of course... so then we ordered drinks which she never brought so when she went past our tablea little later (she felt as if she was ignoring us a bit) he tried to get her attention and mentioned how we ordered 2 drinks we never got and she waved her hand as she glimpsed at us and continued walking over to another table.

(3)Laura H.
This is one of my absolute favorite sushi places in town. I love to go here for a spicy fix. The service is great, atmosphere is comfortable and the sushi is great and fresh. Prices are good for sushi. I've never had a bad experience here and I have been often.
(5)Katy F.
(3)Rosie V.
Highly recommend this place if you've never been
(5)Alex H.

(5)Scott S.
Good sushi and reasonably priced. Service was really great. We ordered 15 pieces of salmon sashimi and a few of them were not as fresh as the rest, but overall it was a great experience and I would recommend it to friends and would definitely go back again myself.
(4)Susan K.

(5)Destiny R.
Service was good and the sushi rolls are delicious!
(4)Shanna E.
I like this place, i always get the bulgogi and my husband gets a different roll every time. They are nice and always helpful. price is ok but im from California so i think everything here is expensive.
(3)David K.
Hmm.. was really craving sushi so I read the yelp reviews and decided to come here.
The rolls are large about 9 pieces instead of 6
(5)Angie B.
its just OK.. its pricey.. and just ok.. it was close to my house so i thought id give it a shot. id go back.. but i now know what to expect.
(4)Rufio B.
One of the best sushi joints in anchorage. The staff is really friendly. The food is outstanding. I just didn't like the music.. But who goes to a sushi place for the music, right. Loved it.
(5)Kristy J.

Excellent restaurant. The food is good and the service is usually excellent. The price is reasonable, at least for Alaska standards. You should try the House Special Roll. Easily the best dish they make, at least in my opinion.

Very good sushi! Kind of expensive but good food and nice atmosphere.
