I'm typically not a fan of Mexican food. With all the sour cream and cheese, it's a girls nightmare when she's allergic to dairy. However, this place was a pleasant surprise. I got the chimichanga for lunch one day and it was tasty, a large portion, and not too salty or greasy. The food came out super quick so we were in and out in less than an hour, which was perfect for a lunch during the workday. The chips and salsa they provide for the table is delicious. They are also a nice venue for a party and I like the upstairs space. The party food was pretty fresh and the service was attentive. Overall a nice place.

The food was great, we had the flautas and ceviche. Prices were slightly inflated, but as to be expected in Alaska I guess. Waitstaff was friendly and service was fast. We'll go back if the opportunity presents itself.

The taco's are good. I recently moved from L.A. and for this far north they do pretty good. There's better Mexican food but you're going to have to go 3000 miles south.

The new tag word... "Pre-proportioned" really? This place is a definite candidate for the show Kitchen Nightmares. My food came luke warm and chewy. It was also the same for my husbands food. My brother in laws girlfriend's food came out completely wrong, so when they tried to correct it they made it worse. The only complement I can give it for the margarita I drank that I'm pretty sure was strong enough to kill any contamination the food probably had. Plus we all had slight stomach aches after eating here. Not good news. Oh and one more thing this is not Mexican food, it's a sorry excuse for it.

When I lived in anchorage this place was legit right across the street from my apartment complex. We would head over when we wanted a few drinks and maybe even a little dinner. I am not a huge mexican fan, but this place was pretty good. Their drinks are strong and reasonably priced, and the service was always great. There are tons of great restaurants in Anchorage but if you're ever in the area definitely check this one out.

This is the closest to Tex-Mex you'll find in the nether regions of the subarctic. ... and by nether regions I mean, of course, the largest city in the 49th state. Anchorage has a terrible culinary reputation - and for good reason. The best food to be found often comes from one's own oven. That said, La Cabana makes a worthy effort and is, well, authentic. The chips are homemade, the guacamole decent, the cheese enchiladas a must. ... But seriously, it takes effort to screw up cheese enchiladas. Avoid the margaritas -- they're watery, overpriced and too sour.

Seemed like a nice family owned Mexican restaurant, which came as a nice surprise on my trip up to AK. I love me some halibut tacos and halibut fish 'n' chips and halibut sandwiches and halibut ice cream, but not as much as I love variety. Their spinach enchiladas were a welcome change of pace and my co-eater enjoyed his chicken tacos. Nice and spicy salsa woke up my taste buds.

Great, very filling food. I'm someone who can normally easily eat a plate of food the size I was given there, and I ended up having to take part of my meal with me to thee hotel to finish later. The service was exceptional, and our waitress answered all our questions, including those that didn't have anything to do with the food (such as questions about local tourism). In all, this was a great restaurant.

The food is good and the menu is the best we've seen so far in Anchorage for Mexican food (we haven't checked out every place yet). I have to say the food is great for what I call Tex-Mex style Mexican food. It is not all authentic Mexican style, but I'm having trouble finding that this far north of the border. The service is always good. You get a coupon for this and Hacienda on the back of your Fred Meyer receipt :). Apparently they have a Sunday buffet that looked pretty good (I think the waiter said it was $12).

Tasty shrimp burrito! It's definitely one of the best I've had. My friends and I were drinking over at Polar Bar and a friend went to grab some take out for us. I gave him the instructions of "I want some seafood" and he came back with the shrimp burrito. It was full of shrimp and they were seasoned deliciously. I'll have to go back and try another one more sober to see if I still feel the same way but I have a feeling I will. My only issue is that it seems a little overpriced. I know it's Alaskan mexican food but still, it's just mexican food. I don't see a reason why spinach enchiladas should be $15.

Overpriced and overrated. The food is just not very good. Try Pancho's Villa on Spenard for more authentic Mexican food.

I'm not ordinarily a huge fan of mexican food restaurants but I still love La Cabana. The waitstaff is friendly and fast. It's hoppin' at lunchtime. Try the a la carte carne asada tacos for a light meal. They're excellent and you won't walk out of there feeling like you ate a horse.

This has been my family's favorite for years and years. The chips are fresh and the salsa has a good, dark color to it. The cameron rancheros is a good-to-order dinner dish and the lunch specials are all good. This place gets packed at lunch. Good service always and hardly ever have to wait for your food. Consistenly good. Downtown two blocks south of the Sheraton Hotel.

We had dinner here because it was next door to our hotel and it had been recommended. The food was pretty good and the service was quick and friendly. I had the enchiladas zuizas and my husband had chicken enchilads. We left full and happy.

This is the best Mexican I've had since moving here from CA 2 years ago. Fast, friendly service, huge portions, good food...what more do you want?

This place is overall good and the food above average. Like every Mexican restaurant I've been to here in Alaska, they give you 2 different salsas (hot and mild), offer halibut dishes, and give you hot flour tortillas only on request. The ultimate margarita was a pleasant surprise, but avoid the regular one, which has very little kick to it. Pancho's Villa still holds the #1 spot for Mexican food here, with this place, Gallos, and Jalepenos coming in a close second. This place was also built in the 1950's when Anchorage was a town of some 20,000 people, so this is probably the oldest Mexican restaurant in the city.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
