I was surprised at how packed this place was on a Saturday morning at 11:00. There were already two groups waiting for a table when we arrived so we took seats at the counter. Our server made us feel welcome and there were quite a few regulars seated around us. The menu was quite extensive but relatively inexpensive. Since I'm from Hawaii, I was pleased to see that they offered island favorites like loco moco, Portuguese sausage, and the option of rice with breakfast instead of potatoes. I opted for the hamburger steak and eggs, and my friend had the Hawaiian French toast. Both of our meals came with a whopping three eggs instead of the usual two and I was pleased that the hamburger steak included grilled diced bell peppers and onions mixed in with the meat. It was a nice touch! My friend enjoyed her toast which was made with Hawaiian sweet bread instead of the usual white. We left very full and satisfied for 20 bucks plus a tip. Not too bad for solid diner food in Alaska.

Good local breakfast place. We enjoyed our breakfast very much. Friendly service and good prices.

Slice of Hawaii in Alaska, loco moco, Portugese sausage, and Aloha Shoyu can be found here!!! One of the few breakfast spots in town that serves rice. Friendly and prompt service if your visit is on a weekday and not at peak hours. Generous portions and tasty food.

Okay, I don't really GET the 4 and 5 star reviews. I mean, even adding points for the hole-in-the-wall ambiance and friendly waitstaff (they were great), the defining characteristic of any restaurant, to me, is the FOOD. And, uh, this stuff is all either frozen or packaged stuff anyone can make. It's all very Eh. If I could, I'd give it 2 1/2 stars because of the waitresses were super nice and kept my coffee cup full (even if there was only milk and not cream offered and the coffee tasted like Folgers). Alas, the food will have to serve as my defining factor. So if you're looking for a good, home-cooked breakfast, go elsewhere. I was wondering why I'd never heard of this place after 15+ years in Anchorage. Now I see why: it's pretty lame.

Decent breakfast diner. Good coffee. Lunch has a LARGE bowl of soup with cornbread. Tasty. Servers were attentive. Hey, it ain't fancy just hard working folks making some basic food.

Great hole in the wall diner that's been around longer than I've been alive. The menu is full of things that one could expect in a greasy spoon. Omelets, reindeer sausage, sandwich and soups, and cheap coffee are just some of the menu items.. Youngish servers that serve people in vinyl covered booths with 30 year old tables. I don't like canned mushrooms so that would be the only thing to not order.

Question: Does this place have the friendliest service in Anchorage? Answer: Yes. Yes it does. I am seriously blown away with how pleasant and gosh-dern NICE people are here. And I'm not talking about gushy-over-the-top corporate "neighborhood bar and grille*" niceties. I'm talking about how people here treat you like you're an old friend. They have a super-chill Hawaiian (guessing) dude that never lets your coffee get too low and is always kind and gracious. He's also the one that will help you pay your bill. Speaking of paying your bill: you pay up front. If (you pay up front) & (you just ate eggs); Then (you're at a diner); The food is good. It's typical diner fare with one huge exception: there's some Hawaiian flare sprinkled throughout the menu. Stuff like Portuguese sausage and hamburger patties with gravy. The 49th and 50th states are great friends, it seems. Next time I want to chill in a booth and hang out with old friends, I'll be back. *when did grill start containing an "e", anyway?

Great food. Lots of selections. Typical diner food with hawaiian flair. Service has been good and meals come promptly. I look forward to each opportunity to go to Jackie's

When I want a great down home breakfast, I head over to Jackie's when in Anchorage. Skip the touristy spots and come eat great food with great service!

This may be one my new favorite breakfast spots. The waitresses are really nice and friendly and they are top of it for your water and coffee, especially your coffee. We sat at the bar and that was nice. It seems like they have their regulars and they all know each other, but everyone was super friendly!! We both got omelettes and they were PERFECT and delicious!! They were pretty big, but we managed to finish them! We got our hash browns extra crispy and my English muffin dry. Everything was exceptional!! I definitely want to come back to try some of their other items. The food also came out within 15 minutes of ordering, despite the fact that the place was jam packed!! W also got Apple pie a la mode after and it was sooooo good, drizzled with chocolate and a few cherries too!! Just writing this review makes me want to go back tomorrow morning!!

Not impressed at all. Not sure what the hype is with this place. Long waiting line as we were leaving. Food was bland. I could have enjoyed a McDonald's breakfast meal just as much and I dislike McDonald's.

I tried out the hawaiiain pancakes, while they were good, there wasn't really anything spectacular or different about them. The service was fantastic :) The only reason for the three stars, is this place just seems "okay" nothing that just jumps out and makes me want to spend $11-15 for a breakfast meal that I can whip up at home for way less than that. I got my daughter a grilled cheese kids meal it was $5.75 and did not include a drink, I got her a chocolate milk which was $2.75, so my four year olds lunch was $8.50 which is absurd! The grilled cheese was nothing to write home about, and the fries they use are just plain gross and about the worst i've had since I can remember. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again, so overpriced and nothing to write home about.

If you want an awesome breakfast and you want the Alaskan experience this is the place to go compared to Gwennies you can pick or choose but I love them both. There are a few things that make this place rise to the top of my list, II prefer the home fries and sitting at the counter when it's busy here over anywhere in town.
(5)Eddie C.
The food was absolutely delicious. The staff is really friendly, and they have tea! And not the gold peak kind of tea, they have brewed tea! That really hard to find in restaurants in alaska

The best part of Jackie's is the service. They are very friendly, seem to have a lot of regulars, and their happy demeanor added nice ambiance to the experience. Service alone would be five stars. The food at Jackie's isn't bad, but I wouldn't call it particularly good; hence the low rating. As basic diner food goes, they cook things decently. My partner's sandwich was well grilled. The fries were fresh and crisp. But there was little in the way of interesting flavor. The same goes for my French toast, which was very eggy and didn't seem to have any spices added to it, not even cinnamon. The eggs were cooked correctly, but with the sausage links were very greasy. Worst hot chocolate ever. Even IHOP has better hot chocolate. My big issue with the food is the lack of flavor overall. I won't be eating there again.

Food = bland; Service = excellent The service at Jackie's was great - our host and waitress were incredibly nice and I really appreciated their help with everything. We ordered the reindeer sausage breakfast and a short stack. The sausage was decent but the casing was very chewy. Eggs were decent, but the potatoes were incredibly bland. The pancakes were good. Overall I was not impressed with the meal and would not return.
(2)Larry M.
Good breakfast. Slow to get order in but food came hot - didn't sit on the warmer - which is more important. Would eat here again. Not sure why 4 or 5 star ratings given

Great place, nice friendly staff. Linguica is awesome, but if you like French toast, get Hawaiian style French toast. The pancakes are pretty large, so ask the waitress or host about the portions or items on menu. They will steer you right. Definitely a place to try, right across from the Bear Tooth.

This is more of a local's spot. The food is good, very diner like atmosphere even though it's pretty large inside. We ate there twice during our stay. The hawaiian french toast was very good. The omelets only so-so. The portugese sausage was also quite yummy and my husband enjoyed the reindeer sausage, even though I wasn't a fan.
(3)chizzy t.
Pretty damn good, but Gwennie's is better, just slightly, but it is.
(4)Carmen B.
I have always heard such good things about this place...I went here about two year ago was sat down and no one would take my order. I heard a server complain that I was there table and no one would serve me. I ended up leaving after about 20 minutes......I was the only one in the resturant....they were to be closing in about an hour. I came back to try it out again today for breakfast....We were waiting to be seated but they just kept seating others ahead of us.....we only had three in our party. After finally being seated another man was seated next to our table... he was promptly waited on and served food in no time flat.....mean while we had to wait and wait to put our order in and finally got our order in....the service was slow and if you want coffee refills you better be obnoxious or loud or forget getting more of there weak coffee....by the time our food came to our table the guy next to us was pretty much done and ready to leave......I had the hawaiian bread french toast....which was suppose to be made from hawaiian bread ........hmm not exactly sure if it was hawaiian bread or not but it was pretty bland....not sweet like I expected and they did not flavor the toast with anything like vanilla or nutmeg cinnamon or anything else... Dear Jackie.....I do not know why people are going to your place but there is nothing I want to come back to....your food is nothing special and your service really sucks!!

Number 2 on my top 10 restaurants for their breakfasts. If you want healthy or not they have it. Not greasy. Fast. Friendly. Tasty. Fair prices.

Jackie's place is my new favorite breakfast joint for the following reasons: - Old fashioned diner/cafe style interior - The place is clean - Service is prompt - Decent prices for Anchorage - The menu is extensive with a good variety of choices not available on most down home type restaurant menus. The one thing I wish the server's would do differently, is put the tea bags in the water as soon as they've poured it, or better yet, pour it over the tea bag. Tea is better when the water hasn't cooled off a little before the tea bag begins to steep, but by the time it arrives at a table and the customer opens the teabag and puts in the hot water, the water's already started cooling. I also prefer heavy china/porcelain/ceramic cups or mugs. I still like Leroy's, but Jackie's Place's menu pushed Leroy's out of my top stop for breakfast.

Solid breakfast place in Anchorage. It's a 70s throwback... from the booths, the patrons, and the classic food. A stand-out is, oddly, the hashbrowns. Just a bit on the greasy side, but oh-so-good. Can't go wrong with a breakfast outing at Jackie's.
(5)Jacquee P.
The entertaining locals make up for anything that may be lacking with the food. The service is very sweet.
(4)Karl S.
A joint in the first sense of the definition. Janice, the current owner, and daughter of the original owner and namesake, is the best. (Disclaimer, my wife and Janice worked together at the old Pay-n-Save in Eagle River). Great, honest, breakfasts from healthy to decadent. These guys own Momma O's too!
(5)Amanda C.
I'm down grading Jackies to 3 stars because I'm almost always get a stomach ache after we eat here, even if i'm only ordering the veggie omelet with rice. I have to assume it's the fat involved in the cooking process.** (**Update: Janice from Jackie's contacted me and told me they don't use butter or oil, only spray, and meals can be requested without the cooking spray. Good to know... thanks Janice!) That said, it's never "food poisoning," just not the meal I'd have on the eve of a first date. I really like the veggie omelet a lot and I have to agree that the rice is a bonus! Makes me feel like I'm back in Hawaii. Just cautious words of advice to people who have sensitive stomachs: this may not be the place for you (**or ask for no cooking spray). And yet, oddly enough, they seem to cater to the body building crowd.

The first place that comes to my mind when I'm hungry for a great breakfast! This is a good diner located in mid-town (Spenard) Anchorage. I have always found the service great and well staffed with service staff that hustles! The owner, Janice, works right along with the crew, which is a sign of a good business, I believe. My favorite breakfast here is a "built to order" custom egg white omlet with rice and wheat toast - yum!

I was actually looking for the Middle Way Cafe; when it took me more than 5 minutes to circle and no luck, I said screw it, I'll go to Jackie's. It's a very simple restaurant, same decor that was there in the 80s, probably older than that. Service gets mixed reviews; it was slow, but the main lady was very nice and gave me an honest opinion to try the french toast. The other server was having an 'off' day and didn't want to be bothered to get creamer for my coffee, or water. This place is ok if you really want to avoid the IHOP crowd for bfast, otherwise, try something else.

I think I was expecting more. I ordered the reindeer sausage with my eggs sunny side up. I should have played it safe and ordered my eggs scrambled or over easy, however, because only half of the egg whites were cooked.
(2)Marty R.
This place is one of the best kept secrets in Anchorage! Absolutely fantastic food every time!!!!!

I.Heart.Jackies. A friend of mine and I go here on a regular basis to chat and catch up and it is always great. It is a 'seat yourself' arrangement and it can sometimes be hard to find a table (but that's a good thing, right?) however the wait is never long. There is also a breakfast counter if you're flying solo and don't want to use a whole table. I'm not sure I have ever ordered anything other than the 2 egg breakfast (scrambled with cheese, bacon and an english muffin) and it's always great. Price? Perfect. And my coffee never goes dry. In fact, I usually have to say 'no thank you' more than once lest I float away on a caffeine infused raft. Many a morning when up far too early we meet them at the front door (6am)...but keep in mind they are only open until 4 if you're thinking of a burger later in the day.

One of my favorite places for breakfast in Anchorage! These folks make outstanding omelettes, and their Hawaiian French Toast is to *die* for! The atmosphere is kitschy - nice old pleather-upholstered booths and ancient chandeliers. The back wall is lined in mirrors, making this small/medium-sized restaurant feel more spacious than it is. It even has a small diner counter where the regulars will sit and happily chat with the wait staff. The service is excellent: even when it's busy, you never feel ignored. The wait staff will shoot you a quick smile to let you know they haven't forgotten about you, and they are not stingy with the coffee! I love that, in particular, because I am a coffee fiend!! They've a great variety of choices, too. If you're looking for good old-fashioned American diner-style food for breakfast (eggs, toast, pancakes, even grits and biscuits and gravy; or for lunch (a nice selection of hot and cold sandwiches and burgers, too!) this is the place for you. Be sure to check out the wall full of body-building photos!! It's a kick!

Jackie's is one of my favorite places for breakfast in Anchorage. Their menu has a Hawaiian tilt to it. Hawaiian French toast and Spam brings back memories of the islands. If you want a good old traditional coffee shop breakfast Jackie's is a good choice. They have a pretty good Patty Melt for lunch as well. They are only open for Breakfast and lunch so don't bother stopping by in the evening. If you are into body building you will also enjoy this restaurant. They have a whole wall covered with classic body building figures. Cory Everson, Arnold and such.
(4)Mark B.
I have been eating here for years. The service is good but the food is better. I love the fact that they offer steamed rice as an option for breakfast. Try the chicken fried steak.
(5)Patrick C.
I had the Corned Beef Hash with a side of Spam. I love the fact that you can get rice instead of potatoes! As the only non-Asian, it was funny that I was the only one to eat rice with my meal :)
(4)J C.
Awesome menu (Portuguese sausage flown in from HI...YUM). Great service. Reasonable prices. What more can you want from a diner?
(4)Sean E.
Jackie's Place is my favorite Anchorage brunch, where brunch is used in the traditional sense of a meal fit for a lumberjack who's just come off a week-long fast. Newcomers to Alaska may want to order a double-portion so as to get a head start on building up that extra layer of insulation. There is a vague focus on Hawaiian food, as the menu features loco moco and Portuguese sausage. Indeed, this place is all about getting sausage and eggs for breakfast, as they also have excellent reindeer sausage served in a portion small enough to finish but large enough you won't be hungry until dinner. The hash browns are straight out of a can, so don't bother. Often it seems like there's one waitress whose sole job is to walk around re-filling every mug that's less than 75% full. Is that cool or what? I should also mention that even though the place is almost always full on weekends there is never much of a wait. A long Alaskan winter suddenly doesn't seem so bad with this shining beacon of hope across the street from the Bear Tooth.
