Found this place, as we were looking for DukBokkI 8n the area. Was surprised to see it packed at 7pm on a Sunday. Once we ordered we were impressed by the VERY LARGE portions. It was a mistake to order one for each. Food was very well prepared and I will surly return in the future.. I was told to try their BimBimBop. Today was BukBokki..

Anchorage...you break me! Why can't I get any decent Korean food in the city limits of Seattle? I'll start by saying that my meal was good. The ambiance is stark and very korean...which means I'm suprised that they don't decorate with calendars and stick-em air fresheners. Koreans aren't known for decor - this is coming from a korean, so I'm allowed to say so! Had the tofu stew...which automatically came with some squid and a prawn. You don't eat the prawn...but it adds to the flavor of the stew. Squid was chewy. But the stew in general was super piping hot and flavorful. The banchan was ok. There were 10 items...but the variety was lacking. Basically if you want anything beyond spicy kimchee, there is not much options. I like to see soy potatoes, and a mayo based side dish. Also a fried fish would have been nice-this is something you can get at another local korean restaurant. Was there yesterday and my meal was excellent. All in all, a solid meal...but not worthy of the 5th star. I'll stick together the other joint, which I've previously reviewed.

This place is seriously legit and delicious! I prefer this place over other Korean places in town that I've tried. I used to live in Chicago where there are a ton of authentic Korean restaurants; Hometown certainly compares to all of those places! We just had a friend visit, who lived in Chicago and frequented these Korean restaurants with us, we took him to Hometown and he was extremely impressed with how it compared to those places in Chicago. The owner and (I'm making the assumption) his wife are very friendly and kind. They provide great customer service and seem genuinely excited that you are there in their restaurant; however it is usually just the two of them, so if they get busy they can get a little overwhelmed. The price of everything on the menu is reasonable and affordable by Anchorage standards. As for the food, everything we've had has been amazing! Everything about the banchan is awesome! I'm not sure if you get more than one helping, I haven't needed to or asked about it. I've ordered the hot stone bibimbap a few times and every time it has been delicious and hot! The rice crisps up like it should, the vegetables have been fresh, the meat is juicy, and they have a special sauce he has been working on and adding it to the bibimbap is AWESOME! My boyfriend ordered the pork bulgogi and thought it was pretty great! I have to agree with him! It was intensely flavorful and a good portion size (enough for leftovers)! We've also ordered the pork and beef BBQ (we ordered this at two separate times), to order the BBQ you need at least two orders and dang is it a lot of food! It's pretty much a big plate of raw meat, onions, and garlic they give you a BBQ grill and you get to grill it up the way you like it. As sides you get rice, sauce, and lettuce. If you're lucky and the owners aren't too busy they will come by and help ya out or even grill your food for you, which allows for efficient shoveling of those meaty portions into your mouth!

Wow yelpers this place is legit and you get so much food for your money's worth. They have generous portions! This restaurant is small and quaint but don't let that fool you! There's alot of flavor in this small place. I ordered the Bulgogi and it was on point! The meat was tender, flavorful, and the food temperature was excellent. My friend ordered a soup and it literally arrived boiling! That is pretty impressive. I also tasted my friend's Bibimbop and the dumplings and I was very pleased with both. Service was swift although not the warmest but everything was delicious. This place is the real deal and I can't wait to return.

Oh what a nice surprise to discover this place around the corner. Went on a whim since there were no reviews on Yelp. Immediately I got the sense I had discovered some great secret... This place was PACKED with Koreans. I take that as a good sign. So my only qualm with our experience was the service, which was sufficient. One guy hosts and serves the whole place. As such, he doesn't have time to make suggestions or pay any attention to you whatsoever after he's delivered your meal. So if you want a beverage, condiments, silverware, etc you'd better get it at square one or you're screwed. You get only one round of banchan, which kinda sucks. But given the (by Anchorage standards) affordability, I wasn't surprised. The pickled seaweed was UHmazing btw! The food was admittedly amazing and affordable by Anchorage standards. The kalbi portion was just right and served sizzling at the going Anchorage price of 20 bucks. My bibimbap (stone hotpot) was also sizzlingly authentic and uber tasty. The crispy rice at the bottom was spot on. At 16 dollars it was on par with most other Korean places in town. So I really liked this place and I'll be back I'm sure. I'm torn between Hometown and Wonjo. Hometown is cheaper, but the service bites and you get one set of 9 banchan. Wonjo is more expensive, but you get unlimited 13 banchan and amazing service. All things considered, I think it's a tie. Stay tuned for updates.

Had the stone pot bibimbap. Good. Though afterwards I learn they forgot the sauce. Lol. I was going to ask but it was pretty good plain. Side dishes were all good. Hard to say. I think I like VIP better food wise on just one test run. But I hate being treated poorly like what happens too often at VIP.

This is an awesome place.Incredible amounts of food, lots of variety wonderfully spicy. The seafood noodle soup was absolutely delicious, and could have served four. The dumplings were a very large porcelain and came with an assortment of pickled vegetables. And very friendly service. This is a gem of a place.

Soo good!! They give so many banchan and are super awesome for always refilling them! The aunty working was literally the best waitress I've ever had!

It's a mom and pop restaurant. The price is very pricy for what we will pay in California; however, I have to give a credit to the woman who served us. We were the first hungry customer after a long drive from Seward to Anchorage. She served and refilled the side dish and hot tea. The quantity was okay. We spent about $72 include tip for lunch for 4 dishes.

The fish was fantastic as were all the entries we ordered. The staff was very accommodating even though we got there 20 minutes before closing. My only knock was the kim chi was not very spicy. Some of the condiments were just OK.

My friend and I came here after going to a Dharma Yoga session and it's SOO good. It was a summer day that was a bit rainy and cold so we dipped into this restaurant for some hot bibimbap. My friend had never eaten Korean food and wanted something healthy. It was both healthy and DELICIOUS!! I had some complimentary hot tea and once we were done, they had to roll us out from being so full! They waitress was super friendly and knew when to come over without being annoying. I absolutely love Korean food and this was a special treat for me on a cold summer Alaskan day. :) I will be going back again!

Give and take on this place. The decor is plain. It's a small restaurant with a small amount of tables, but for each of my visits, I did not worry about getting a table. They were not busy either time. Both visits I ordered the spicy mackerel and a hot tea. It came with the ban chan which was good. Also at both visits, I had a discussion with the gentleman about the spiciness of the dish. I love spicy foods, and I love to eat (real) Korean food. Yet, alas, both times, when the guy came by to see how my meal was, I told him that it wasn't spicy. Which it was not. At ALL. He told me, both times, that he ordered it for me that way. WTF!!! Why do you think I came to a Korean restaurant, told you I like "Korean" spicy, and ordered a dish that flat out says "SPICY"? So that's the down side. The up side is that even without the spice, it was tasty. After the first time, I wasn't sure it I was going to come back. After the second time, and the same thing happening, it's just not worth it. I like getting what I ordered and not having my meals manipulated without my knowledge because people assume.

Awesome tofu soup! Spicy but not overwhelming. A super impressive choice of other soups and stews - spicy hot chicken, seafood hot pot, beef rib stew. Extreme fresh side dishes and a great seafood pancake. Plus you get to watch the itty bitty fish in their aquarium. Service is VERY friendly, albeit a little slow.

I was visiting Anchorage from Los Angeles. I'm very surprised by how delicious the food was here, it's very comparable to the Korean food from the big city. The lady with short hair that works here, perhaps it's the owner, was extremely friendly and provided very accommodating service!

This place is quite possibly one of the best Korean restaurants I have ever been to. The food is amazing & always fresh. I always bring new people to try it out & they always love it, even if it's their first time trying Korean food. Highly recommend eating here to enjoy real, authentic Korean food!

We got a coupon and came here early one Saturday afternoon. We got bulgogi, soft tofu soup (soondubu), and fried rice. She only had shrimp for the fried rice and hard tofu (not soft tofu) for the soup. Everything was yummy and I didn't notice the difference in the tofu. Definitely satisfied my Korean food cravings.

Not really sure how to rate our first Korean experience. The food was fast and plentiful, the spice was adequate, and the service was friendly. This is a tiny place with nice decor. I could have done without the sports on the big TV, though it made my husband happy. I liked the spicey squid with vegetable but was disappointed that it was octopus, which is always tough, instead of squid. We were served a warm drink that tasted like roasted soybeans and the waitress said it was tea. My husband liked his spicy seafood soup, which was huge and full of octopus, with some shrimp and a few mussels and squid rings. All the condiments were interesting and it was fun experimenting, but it wasn't my thing. I will try another Korean place before I decide it's the cuisine that's not for me. Next time I'm in this neighborhood I'll go to the Thai place (they were closed when we tried them) or the Filipino place or the sushi place.

I feel sorry for giving this place a 2 star as their first review on Yelp and let me tell you why. The kalbi seemed like it was already pre-cooked from the night before and it appeared and tasted like they just heated it up in the microwave, very dry and tough, not sizzling fresh or tender. The spicy pork appeared to be the same. The squid tofu soup was watery and flavorless. And no shoju? The Korean table next to us got shoju. Being the only Korean at our table, I felt embarrassed we got such sub par food and experience. The only reason they got 2 stars is because the service was friendly. .

I thought Home Town was great! I've been here twice and both times have had really delicious food. Love the seafood pancake and am still drooling over the stir fried pork belly and kimchi. This is now my favorite Korean restaurant in town. It's awesome.
