Very good omelets and the blueberry pancakes are the best in town!

Lovely customer service. Generic breakfast choices. Simple, no frills. Cash only restaurant.

Skipped the Breakfast at the hotel... no one was sitting there and I decided to seek out some "real food"! This is a gem- friendly, locally owned, real blueberry pancakes, jalapeno omelette, good black coffee, side of bacon and generous portions ! What a find in Anchorage-worth seeking out! Tips: Bring CASH, the blueberry pancakes stuffed w.blueberries are a must! Share your food and enjoy!

Visitng Anchorage for the first time and found this place on Yelp. Very glad I did! For the prices this place can't be beat. It's a small and quaint place full of eclectic decorations. Nothing fancy about this place, but for the prices the food was very good. My boyfriend and I had breakfast here and they had HOMEMADE biscuits with a sausage and bacon gravy. Yum! One of the most important things I noticed were all the condiments on the table were clean! No disgusting fingerprints or old sauced hands from previous diners before. This is important for me as a fellow server. It means they take care of the little things. Things to know: ~ They do not accept debit or credit cards, but there is an atm right by them. ~ They do not accept $100 bills. ~ They DO offer free cookies!!! This place is a must try if you are looking for a nice home cooked meal, good prices, and great service.

Food was really good. The wait however.....45 minutes is a but excess for a place that is as small as this. We had 1 order in front of us as well. If you have the time and aren't too hungry when you arrive, then this would be a great place. However, if you're looking for some quick food or are really hungry, I would look elsewhere.

Solid breakfast food and relatively inexpensive as well. The pancakes were cooked absolutely perfectly, with that slight crunch on the edges that I love. Hash browns were also crunchy with perfect texture -- just as good as Snow City Cafe's although perhaps not as good-looking. The waitress was a lively, elderly woman who kept our experience interesting.

Small place but definitely cute :-) Friendly staff veggie omelette is a must we substitute the toast with blueberries pancake I think you got yourself a wonderful meal :-)))

*CASH ONLY* WOW! A true "diamond in the rough" (I need to get a new idiom, I've been using and abusing this one too much lately), Granny B's doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside is warm, charming, and inviting. Granny B's is a diner with a home-cooked touch. Yes, I know, almost all diners *say* they are all about "home cookin'" with various plagues on the walls. But the food ends up always being a bit generic. NOT here! You can get pancakes instead of toast, which is something commonly found at Denny's and occasionally at a mom n' pop diner. The pancakes here are very, very good. They are some of the best pancakes I've ever had. These are unique, rich, and...even a bit crusty. Which is usually not a word I'd use to describe pancakes but they really do have a unique and satisfying texture too them. I got blueberries in them, and they were real-deal blueberries...and pretty big ones at that. I should say after describing how blown away by the pancakes I was, that I'm not a "pancake guy" by nature. I rarely order them unless they come with something. The woman who served me was very welcoming, I felt like I was eating at a B&B in someone's house, except I didn't have to pay to stay the night! I can't give this place 5-stars though, because it's cash only. It's just a standard I've set for myself. If you frequently carry cash (I do not), you can go ahead and read this as a 5-star establishment.

A hole in the wall restaurant. Tried their special which consisted of diced ham, scrambled eggs, and cheese with hash browns. If you're a ham lover, you'll love this because every bite has about four to five diced ham pieces. I like ham, but it was a bit too much for me. Pay a dollar extra to get their blueberry pancakes. It's really good. Smother the butter and drizzle some syrup...oh yeah. Tried some of my cousin's omelet and I liked it better than my special. I think price wise it's a little up there. Oh, and food takes a while to come out.

I went here during my trip to Alaska based on the reviews. The place was very quaint and small. The decorations were very interesting. I had really been looking forward to the blueberry pancakes but they were out of blueberries. After getting over my sorrow, I ordered regular pancakes, scrambled eggs, and hashbrowns. The pancakes were amazing and everything else was good. My server was just okay; she seemed a little down. But everyone has a down day. I tipped her at least 50% and she didn't even acknowledge that. The bathroom was spotless. I wish I had been in Alaska longer so I could go back. It's a gem.

My family and I went to granny bees today and it was awesome! The best hole in the wall for breakfast and lunch! There sweet ice tea was so good! And they treat their customers very well! Make sure to bring cash they do not accept debit/credit cards and if you forget their is a ATM machine next door. I got a veggie omlet with hash brown and pancakes and it was just right. Not to much food or to little will be going again!

Very small, hole in the wall, place with loads of fun stuff on the wall.. I had the Adams creation, scrambled eggs with peppers, onions and cheese.. Delicious! It comes with toast, hash browns and mini pancakes which were out of the world.. I'm taking off one star only because the wait was pretty long.. All in all, a great place, will definitely come back when I visit anchorage next.

My favorite breakfast while visiting Anchorage! Basic diner food done perfectly! Went for the blueberry pancakes everyone was raving about only to find they were a weekend special and not a regular menu item. No biggie though, everything was spot on!

  • Sara L.

Perfect. Exactly what I wanted for a breakfast place. Inexpensive, good portions, and delicious. The staff was super friendly and if I lived in Anchorage I'd visit there frequently. My boyfriend got an omelet and I got the biscuits and gravy. It was all fantastic.

Anyone who says this is the best breakfast in Anchorage is, to quote Arsenio Hall, "you're outta your damn mind." The "B" in Granny B's is for "Bad" or "Barf." Might as well change the name to Granny G's... G is for Gross. After reading reviews here, I was excited to try the biscuits and gravy. It was terrible. Tasted like canned sausage gravy and bread aisle biscuits. The mushroom omelette was disgusting. Canned mushrooms slathered over a swiss cheese omelette; the cook didn't even drain the the can... HORRIBLE! I was going to give at least two stars, since the waitress was nice, but Granny B(arf)'s does not deserve to be an overall 4+. If you want the best breakfast in Anchorage go to Snow City, Julie's, Gwennies, Peggy's, or Leroy's!

Place is super cute/quaint. Food was amazeballs. I had omelette type English muffin sandwich with hash browns on the side. Price were very reasonable and the coffee was great. Served in different mugs like you were at someone's house. Love it.

This place is great. Got off the airplane at 9 AM and were hungry for breakfast. Checked Yelp and saw the great reviews for Granny B' s. The reviews didn't lie. The food was great. I had the omelet with cheese and Ham ( ham had such a great flavor), hash browns ( cooked the way hash browns are supposed to be!) with an English Muffin (substited instead of toast for extra .25 cents). My husband had the 2 eggs, bacon (5 or 6 slices), and pancakes. Everything was wonderful. Do glad we came. BE SURE AND BRING CASH, no credit cards taken.

So I walked into the lobby of the Fairfield Inn in Anchorage; took one look at the powered eggs; and fired up Yelp to find me a real breakfast. Well, Yelp delivered - in the form of Granny B's. It's a weird vibe to be sure - when I walked in 6 guys all sitting at individual tables facing away from the door. Complete silence. Then I ordered ... great service, fabulous portions, high quality. Amazingly some of the plates come with one's "choice" of toast or pancakes! I've never seen pancakes as a straight-up sub for toast - that's no choice at all! I'm staying in Anchorage for three more days. I'll be at Granny B's three more times.

  • Rachel S.

The food here was good. The place is small and the waitress was a little rough, but it's a really small place. We came here for breakfast and I thought it was pretty standard, nothing awesome over the top. There's maybe 6-8 small tables. Lots of fun bust decor, but I probably wouldn't come back.

Real Alaskan place. The portions are huge, the atmosphere is a bit divey, but with some really cool memorabilia. The staff are amazingly friendly. The food is hearty, for sure. We all had breakfast, either eggs and such, or omelette. The eggs were well cooked and tasty. The omelet was filled nicely with turkey and bacon and cheese. The bacon was thin, but really tasty. Not a huge fan of the hash browns - a little over cooked and kinda bland, but not horrible. Coffee was good, but not awesome. The star of the show was the pancakes for sure. The blueberry pancakes were amazing. Sweet, perfectly cooked and fluffy. The buttermilk pancakes were also awesome. A little butter and syrup and you're all set. Granny B's is a great stop. Go.

  • Molly V.

They only take cash however; this is not the reason for a two star deduction. The service is what held this breakfast spot back from an additional star. My table waited an unreasonably long time for drink orders, food orders, and check considering there were only three other tables being waited on at that time. We would be a little more forgiving of the long wait time if the waitress was a bit more cheerful, forgiving, or showed some evidence of a positive or even neutral emotion. The reason for any stars at all is solely based on the food. The pancakes were amazing, the bacon was crispy, the sausage was juicy and flavorful, and the eggs were good as well. Pretty standard diner food so nothing gourmet - just hearty, delicious, simple breakfast grub.

One of the better breakfast places in Anchorage. It's definitely not at the greatest location, but it's pretty easy to find. I'm sure every local has driven past it, but didn't think much of it. So I was shocked where it was. I enjoyed the blueberry pancakes the reviews have been raving about. It was good but not amazing. However, it sufficed. The decor is definitely a Alaskan vintage vibe. I'm not really a fan of that decor with all the random stuff hanging around gives off a messy/dirty vibe. I enjoyed my breakfast tho! Came on a weekday in the morning with only other customer. Service was good, it was a friendly old lady.

As the other reviews say, this is a small little breakfast joint. But small and breakfast are a match made in heaven. I got the Nat Omelet. Bacon, Turkey, and swiss grilled to perfection! The waitress was fantastic and the food came out quickly. Both the chefs actually came out and asked how my meal was. TOP NOTCH SERVICE! Don't let the size of this restaurant fool you! Its small in stature but big on flavor and service! I'll be back!

Every time we come here they are packed. That says a lot. The food is great and the little lady who serves is always moving fast :-) this time we had the cook kind of be the server too because they were short staffed, but that didn't change anything really. Try anything on the menu but I seriously recommend the biscuits and gravy. Yum!!

Granny B's is a little hole in the wall restaurant thats cute and dainty. I can understand for some folk that it's nostalgic with all the older toys, posters and antique things in general hanging from the walls. I also can understand how the nostalgia of the food where it seems to have kept it's simplistic original style of cooking. Though I've only been there once, it was only ok. I had the Cajun Country Fried Steak with Eggs and Home Fries. In general thats usually my "go to" breakfast item anywhere but it was simply alright. The Cajun seasoning was really salty but of course the eggs and the home fries were fine. Nothing bad but nothing really good. Service was good but its small enough inside that it feels a little claustrophobic. I think Granny B's gets it praise from the antique look more so than the food because the food is just regular. I personally love places like this visually but I'm not going to rate it highly based solely on that. I'm happy that little local businesses are doing well but you can get the same breakfast anywhere. I would've given 3 stars but they ONLY accept cash so its sadly a 2 star for me.

This place may have good food , but I will never know. I pulled up for breakfast on a early Saturday Morning this week and the place was empty except for a couple of guys standing out front smoking that looked like they just got out of prison. After seeing that I put my truck in drive and went off to the local bagel place, I am not too keen on smokers or unkempt people cooking for me.

  • Kari R.

I wanted to love it and the sausage gravy was AMAZING but I have to take off points due to the fact that there were no hashbrowns, only home fries. I mean who doesn't have hashbrowns on a Sunday morning? That's my favorite part of breakfast.

I had the patty melt. It was good, however, the service was greatly lacking. It seems that new customers are not welcome there. Everybody else received a "hello, how are you today", but I was, apparently, overlooked. I will not go back.

Another yelp deliver. Solid no-frills breakfast spot. Good service and great food. Would eat here again any day. Definitely try the blueberry pancakes. Very solid. Small spot in a random strip center, but don't pass it up.

Okay. Iowa farm boy here. I grew up on bacon eggs hashbrowns and pancakes. My grandma and mom... well, their breakfast was like eating at Denny's compared to this. The locals talked to us forever. The staff:Jennifer, John, and Jeff are the coolest. Could have just stayed at talked all day. They are so proud of their food and loved to see people eating and enjoying. John's family has been making awesome food in Anchorage for years. B is his granny. Then there was the local photographer who had lived in his vehicle for 30 years. Showed us an envelope of pics that should be in national geographic. Made fun of these kids with their digital cameras. Take this place in. I'll stop.

We went here and had breakfast because we were sick of pancake houses. All of our food was hot and fantastic. They put alot of effort into every meal that comes out of that kitchen. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Small place, but they didn't blink when we sprung a party of seven. After an apology that it might take a while to get our orders out ("We have a tiny grill"), there was no need to worry. It took half an hour or less. Food was consistently excellent, and we couldn't have done better at home.

New to town and asked the locals to where I can find an great breakfast place - they all suggest I try Granny B's. - Not exactly a visual appealing place from first-sight but a very vintage setting on the inside. There are not too many tables but enough to be cozy - I sat up in front, literally the closet table to the kitchen. I read the Yelp reviews and tried the biscuit and gravy with a side of pancakes. I was impressed the biscuit and gravy was delicious - the gravy was rich and savory, while the biscuit was flaky on inside and slightly crunchy on the outside, still with gravy on the top of them.. The best I ever had and suggest to anyone who loves biscuit and gravy to try it. The pancake was also the best I had ever had - extremely fluffy and moist, first bite and wow - the outside of the pancake itself had a thin layer of crunch to it and a feel of freshness to it. If I had a larger stomach - I would for sure would order a stack of pancakes - A must to have for all you pancake lovers out there. Cost? It is reasonably priced and won't break the bank - The only thing that I mediocre was the coffee - But the food... I would definitly come back again and have everything again.

Before our drive south to Seward, we stopped to have breakfast at Granny B's. My wife had the veggie inlet and I had Emmie's omelet, which contained ham, cheese, onions, and peppers. Both meals came with toast and hash browns. Both of our breakfasts were good. Service was excellent.

A great cozy place to enjoy breakfast. The service was outstanding. The food delicious, reasonably priced and filling. The decor is quirky, but not in an effortful way, it just is. An accumulation of a lifes worth of art, signs, maps and other kitsch. Its cash only, so make sure you have cash before you head there.

I'm visiting from California and have been staying in Anchorage for the past couple of days. This is the first place I actually really enjoyed! Definitely try their pancakes, they were amazing. A little crispy on the corners and fluffy and wonderful in the middle. My cousin ordered the biscuits and gravy and enjoyed it. They came in big portions, just a heads up! Service here was on point. Really nice and helpful, continued to check up on us. Yelp has been recommending Snow City, but I personally like it better here It's a cute, small place to have breakfast at!

Pretty nice place. Our first foray into Alaska (fresh off the plane) and it came recommended on Yelp. We popped in and were able to get a table and some coffee-then unfortunately I think we were forgotten about (miscommunication on our part, likely). We then did get some food and it was really good. The folks seemed really nice and the place was filled with interesting Alaskan memorabilia. I think they may have been understaffed the day we went in--seems a like a ton of ground for one person to cover. I'd go back for sure.

First time there on Sunday. Hole in the wall with great atmosphere and the friendliest long-time, genuine Alaskans you can find. Best blueberry pancakes ever!!! Even coffee was great. A friend had a cheeseburger that looked awesome. Electric sign is coming. Until then a bit hard to find.

Great food, pancakes are the big draw...but everything on the menu that we tried was good. If you're looking for a quick place to eat, granny B's isnt the place...the eating area is small and you might be waiting awhile. Service was good but again took awhile.

This place appears to be an authentic Alaskan restaurant. There is plenty of memorabilia on the walls, and exudes charm. The food was good, however, the service is very, very, very, slow!

Came to Alaska with Dad and brothers. To kick things off, we wanted a good down- home breakfast that reminded us of growing up here. Granny B's did not disappoint. Small with lots of character, a great, friendly waitress - "Grandma" with a tattoo - who promptly swapped out my sissy coffee cup for a more manly one. And speaking as a connoisseur of a home-made breakfast... a great homemade breakfast, with biscuits just the way I like them and perfect coffee. Cash-only, and we drove right past it the first time, so watch close! For me at least, couldn't ask for anything more from the genre.

Great to be back at Granny B's! Love the food, quirky yet comfortable atmosphere (missed seeing all those chotskies hanging on the walls and ceiling), and warm hospitality from John and the team. Great pit-stop on my trips to anchorage.

I ordered up Nat's Omelet: grilled turkey, crispy bacon, and swiss cheese. For an extra $1 I traded up my toast for a biscuit, and then ordered a side of gravy. In my opinion there is only one place in Anchorage with a better biscuit and gravy (my beloved Spenard Roadhouse). These are fresh and piping hot, and the gravy has a nice sausage/gravy ratio. This is the perfect hole in the wall diner for old timers on a wednesday, hung overers on a Sunday, or just people wanting a decent greasy spoon to indulge in. The menu is printed on colored paper, with the usual diner delights such as chicken fried steak (best in town) or eggs and hashbrowns. I like the different menu items that long time customers have made and are available. Gives the place a home loving cooked meal sort of feel. The pies are homemade, and worth the added bulk around the waistline. The decor is full of alaskan/forgotten era memorabilia that gives a person something to look at while waiting for food. Could do without the tv that is always on in the corner.

  • Kongkiat R.

Great Country Fried Steak!! I've been trying country fried steak all around town and I would have to say that this place by far, has the best country fried steak. The portion is smaller than Gwennie's but the fried steak itself is more flavorful. Their gravy is also very good. I just wish that they are a little more generous on the gravy.

    (4)
  • Joseph L.

Best greasy spoon breakfast in Anchorage, hands down. Everything I've had has been delicious (country fried steak, OMFG) and the option of substituting pancakes for toast without any extra cost is pure genius.

Gave Granny B's a try last Sunday morning and wished we had found this place when we first returned to Anchorage. They are easy to miss when you drive by and they only have nine small tables you just have to give Granny B's a try. The food is better than home cooked and the service warm and friendly. My wife said her turkey and Swiss cheese was the best omelet she has had in years. I really appreciated that it was warm and cozy with a nice local Alaskan decor. The only thing keeping me from giving them 5 stars is the coffee. Just can't understand why they serve folger's class coffee with we have several local world class local coffee companies to choose from.

  • Jack S.

I love this place! It looks like a hole in the wall but that is very deceptive. Inside is a little bit of Alaska/Iditarod history on the walls. The variety of coffee mugs add to a very down home atmosphere in a cozy setting. The food is some of the best in Anchorage for the reasonable prices. Hardy portions. Excellent for breakfast. Be sure to bring cash or a local check for payment.

Came here for breakfast on a Thursday morning, about 10:30. There were two other parties of 4 in the restaurant, apparently about to get their food because the one server said she'd be with us and 10 minutes later she was to give us some coffee. About 5 minutes later she took our order, which we received 20 minutes later. Standard coffee. I ordered the biscuits and gravy (1 split biscuit) and short stack; my partner ordered the veggie omelet which came with toast or pancakes and hashbrowns. The biscuits and gravy were delicious, as Len L. stated in his review. My nearly plate-sized pancakes were good at first--nice and crispy on top and somewhat fluffy inside, but the amount of oil/lard or whatever they use to make the big cakes crispy started to make me sick about halfway through. It also affects the taste of the pancakes--I thought they were a bit off--and my partner confirmed since her side order of pancakes were smaller, and therefore needed less oil to get crispy, and she said that hers tasted a lot better than mine. (Did she let me taste hers? No! So I have to take her word for it.) My biscuit and gravy was $5.95 (2 biscuits for $8.95) and nearly filled me up; short stack of 2 pancakes was $5.95. Omelette was $9.95. Coffee about $1.50.

We stopped here on a Saturday morning around 9:30 on the last day of our vacation and got the last table. The hostess acknowledged us but decided against bringing us menus. We got up and got them ourselves (no big deal). There was only one cook and one waitress so we knew we were in for a wait but an hour plus? That was a bit too much. The staff was nice and the food was good enough but if you need your food in under an hour, you will want to avoid Granny B's when they are busy. We regretted losing all that time since it was our last morning in town and we wanted to see a few more places before going to the airport.

Stopped in here for breakfast after reading the reviews. Menu is limited but all of the food we tried was delicious. Homemade biscuits were excellent and the pancakes were both yummy AND enormous. I ordered just one and it was the size of a dinner plate. Definitely worth trying at least once. It's easy to miss though so watch for the rainbow colored patio area outside the front door

We are 5 adults and a baby strong visiting from Indiana and we tried Granny B's for breakfast this morning. We pulled up to no cars in the parking lot and decided to go in with great hesitation. Boy are we glad we did!!! It was spectacular!! From the eclectic decor to the incredible pancakes we were impressed at every turn. I would recommend Granny B's to anyone!!

Just about everything I've had there is awesome. Their gravy for their biscuits and gravy and chicken fried steak is sooo good. The pancakes are fluffy but have a slight crisp to it. Hate omelets because they usually taste dry and bland but theirs are so flavorful. Even plain scrambled eggs taste good.

My husband and I have been very loyal B's fans for over five years. We know almost all the staff by name and it is genuinely the best breakfast place in town. I have never have a meal there that wasn't delicious, and their delicious pancakes come with almost everything. If you aren't in the mood for breakfast, get the enormous blue cheese burger. You might need a nap afterward, but you'll sleep with a smile on your face.

Oh, Granny B! You've stolen my heart... and my taste buds :) Yes, the place is small, but I like small. Small, personable, and everything cooked to order. I mean, hey, I'm here for the food ;) I am a breakfast all day kind of girl. The blueberry pancakes were sooo good! Plump blueberries, soft pancake, and crispy on the edges. Just perfect. I had Ed's Special: two eggs, with choice of meat, and hash browns. I substituted the regular pancake for blueberry. The best $1 add-on a girl could ask for. You will not be disappointed. Overall, this place has imprinted on me during my latest visit home. I will definitely be back to dine at Granny B's.

  • Donny S.

This probably the best pancakes I've EVER had. So moist and sweet (in a blueberry way, not sugary way) that I didn't even need any syrup. Omelette was fluffy and chili hearty without being over powering. Kitchy decor and wonderfully nice waitress made it an enjoyable dining experience. My only complaint, coffee was weak and tasteless. But then again I'm from Hawaii so used to our kona blends, so may be a bit spoiled. =)

What can I say about this place that hasn't been already said?? It's the best whole in the wall, quintessential Alaskan dive spot for breakfast. Screw Snow City & its pretentious, hipster "you must make a reservation" vibe. I don't want anything fancy for breakfast most times, give me some eggs, some toast, perhaps some omelettes or pancakes & I'll be happy & content. My only issue was the coffee. Tasted like they needed to clean out the maker - or maybe just throw it away entirely.

Dear Granny B's where have you been the last 3 years while I was dying at village inn. I used to make the common comment that we've all heard many times "there really is no good breakfast in Anchorage" Granny Bs is an excellent, reasonably priced, authentic breakfast joint. . This is totally the place for breakfast/brunch. I've been here twice and had great meals both times. First time I had the cajun chicken fried steak. with 2 eggs and sausage gravy. Nom nom nom. The second time I had the sausage link omelette with hashbrowns sausage gravy and blueberry pancakes. Holy titty fucking Christ was it all good. CASH ONLY! I don't know why, but I'd never go here after partying. Maybe because the place feels too much like my mom's kitchen...I would have too much guilt to enjoy my giant piles of breakfast.

Absolutely the best burger in Anchorage and quite possibly the best burger in all of Alaska! Nice atmosphere, friendly folks.

This is a great neighborhood spot. Friendly people, attentive service, fun decorations, and good, solid food. Everything comes out exactly how you're expecting and that's perfect. The only bad experience I had here was when a guy from outside was yapping on his cell phone through his ENTIRE meal. 20+ minutes about how "authentic" and "charming" and "real old-timey" the restaurant was and he was still yapping when I left. Well, he was right about the restaurant, but it didn't make me want to slap him any less. Thank goodness he is not the usual type of visitor.
