I've been eating at Gallos since I was a little kid. No matter the Gallos location, its been consistent enough to come back multiple times. It really is (to me) the standard of very basic Americanized-Mexican food. That's not a put down for I enjoy it. I've tried most all items on the menu over a span of 10 years. You really get what you order which is neither great or particularly bad. Most all Mexican restaurants are all the same in every way. Gallos is just another Mexican restaurant out of the plenty that rarely have anything unique or original. I always give 3 stars to restaurants of any ethnicity/style that is generically the exact same of other similar restaurants. I've only had good experiences but until it separates itself in some way at all from all the others, it'll be average at best. This review seems more negative than positive but I'm just being honest and hopefully helpful.

This restaurant proves the adage to eat where the locals go isn't always great advice. This place is busy, even on a Monday night. Drink prices were great for Anchorage prices - $5.50 for a generous Captain and Coke. I ordered carnitas for dinner, and the pork was generous, although rather dry and just okay tasting. Free chips and salsa (chips were good). Bartenders were friendly enough. I'd go back, but not for the culinary experience.

Very slow wait staff. My soda stayed empty for way too long as did the chip basket. They must have changed chip brands because now they taste like cardboard. Music was good. Don't bother going to Las Margaritas that was even worse! This is more of a tex mex. I should have got a hint when I didn't see any Hispanics eating here!

Food was decent, but the Margaritas were bad. It's not that they did not use good tequila, but rather the other ingredients. Place is somewhat of a dive. I sat at the bar with a couple of friends. Would not kill me if I never went back. All the work staff were friendly though. Couple of drunk guys tried hitting on my friend. It was kind of funny.

The place definitely has a loyal following. The food was ok, the service was ok but limited. The bartender apparently was the only server on duty that day. There are lots of tables on the bar side. We used to come here about 18 years ago on the weekends. the dace party was happening. The chile verde was served hot and was excellente,

I grew up in L.A. so I have high standards when it comes to Mexican food. The food wasn't terrible, but not great. We were rushed to order but then it took a while to get our food. I would go back but nothing to write home about.

The food Sucks, The service is inconsistent and the margaritas are premixed crap. Order beer if your must drink.

I don't know if it's the cooks or the waitstaff but neither seem to be able to distinguish between chicken or beef! We didn't actually want beverages with our meals either, make sure to bring your own beverages. One waiter for a party of 60? Give me an effing break! They were also unwilling to break the bills up by table. While understandably busy the waiter should not have sweat dripping into the food when he leans over over the table. Last time I checked fajitas came with tortillas, sour cream, and guacamole! Then again, it might just be a plate of hot meat, onions and green peppers! Do yourself a favor and head down the road to taco bell for some authentic Mexican food!

I ate here last Thursday for lunch. A couple of observations: 1. I sat in the bar and they were working on installing new blinds. The backdoor was left open and it was freezing. They also ran a saw that was quite loud. Perhaps it would have been better for them to complete their construction outside of working hours. 2. We ordered the buffet. It was so dark you couldn't see what was being served. 3. They service was poor. Overall, this place is tired and nasty and the food was not good. I will not go back.

I was never a Mexican food fan until meeting my hubby. Once we started dating, we constantly visited Gallo's. Here's my take on this restaurant: 1/2 price appetizers in the bar between 3pm & 5pm Staff are polite and efficient (never issues with the bill) Chips are refilled fairly often Drinks are filled often Food is hot and tasty Kids eat FREE on Tuesday! Half price coupons on the back of Carr's receipts (take advantage!) Decent parking and decent location Now that I am settled and the economy is in the crapper, we always take advantage of the buy one get one free coupon. And you can never go wrong with their fajitas or chicken tacos. The house margarita is the BOMB!

I went to Gallos to have some Margaritas which this has been a regular place to visit when I am in Anchorage. When the bell rings it's a free drink and I was actually charged for that free drink plus my debit card was debited for more than what the actual receipt a couple of days later. This is not good buisness practice and leave a negative impression on the establisment.

We have eaten in the restuarant and bar a few times as well as ordered for pick up. Not one time have I ever considered the customer service great but it is close to our home and the food is decent so we have continued to go. Tonight was our last time. Honestly, I was treated so poorly I practically left in tears. I will NEVER step foot in that place again. We ordered fajitas for two to go. My husband picked it up and when he got home we found the order had no tortilla shells! Not sure how we are supposed to eat fajitas with no shells. Also, the menu lists this item at $21.95 but when he paid they charged him $24.95. I called and said I was on my way back to the restuarant to pick up the shells and hopefully to get a partial refund since they over charged us AND gave us an incomplete order. When I got there, no one knew anything. I was forced to stand awkwardly in the entrance while three different people came up and grilled my about what I needed. Finally a manager brought me a bag of shells and said "here are your extra shells"! I said, "no, these aren't extra, there was none in our bag." I asked again for a partial refund due to the apparent overcharge and for the hassle of having to drive back. He told me that he was SURE that the kitchen put the shells in the bag and I must have dropped them on the way home! Are you kidding me?? I was so offended that I left the shells there and walked out. With tip that cost $30 for nothing. Save yourself the hassle, go to LAS MARGARITAS which is in the same strip mall as Gallos. They cost a bit more but they're customer service is amazing!!!!

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
