"We were driving from Bozeman to Denver today, and stopped in Sheridan for lunch. We used Yelp to find Olivia's, and we were pleasantly surprised. The chicken enchiladas with green chile was outstanding! Nice atmosphere outside as well. Highly recommended."

I had the trio of tacos on the menu. They remind me of my trips to mexico! Very authentic

We stopped by Olivia's on a roadtrip. It was another case of "I don't want to starve to death so let's stop at this random place in this random town we've never heard of." Being from California, we scoffed at the "Mexican food" a small town in Wyoming would have. We were pleasantly proved wrong about our initial elitist statism (it's like racism but for states). I got a chicken mole mostly because I was suffering from hunger delirium and just pointed at the menu. I didn't know what I was getting myself into. My girlfriend told me that it was a chocolate sauce. I told her she was also suffering from hunger delirium because nobody would put chocolate on chicken and call that Mexican food. Didn't I look like a jerk when we looked it up on Wikipedia and yes, it's a chocolate sauce. It came out all brown and liquidy and gooey and I was thinking "crap, what did I get myself into?" Even with my negative outlook, it still turned out to be delicious. It was pretty spicey and I had to keep eating more and more because for some reason spicey things do that to you. The first couple bites left a bad aftertaste, but as I got used to it and stopped trying to find reasons to be disappointed I started to enjoy it. I'd definitely order that again if I came across it. The reason I give four stars instead of five is that the service was pretty lack luster. The people seemed to be kind of sad to be working there. I don't blame them it is Wyoming after all (there's that statism again), but at least smile when you bring me my chips. Also both the salsa and the guacamole looked like they'd been blended to death. We joked that it was like somebody had explained what salsa was and then somebody tried to make it without ever actually seeing it. It tasted ok but was just the wrong color and the wrong texture. It looked/felt like V8. The guacamole looked like toothpaste. Other than that, go ahead and eat there. It is good if you can quit being a jerk about everything all the time (that's what I am).

The food made it a 3 star, but the service is why it is not higher rated. First, you are literally stuffed into a tiny foyer with some people attempting to escape and some trying to get in. The host/cashier is at best distracted with too much to do and all those people in such a tiny place....do not seat yourself to get out of the crowd as you will be ignored by all of the staff. The service is lacking personality, a level of interest that you at least find at a gas station, and the fact is apparent that they not only hate their job but they would like you not to be there at all. I would try this again, only as a last moment of no where else to go based on service and staff issues. Sad, as it looked to have potential but service is a huge issue for Oliva's.

Best Mexican food in town! We try to go as often as we can. Especially when they have "tacos al pastor" for a special. Never a bad meal at Oliva's!

Wow! The verde pork burrito, awesome! Then I ate the monster nachos appetizer. The food was so good I couldn't stop eating. Amazing!

It's Sheridan, Wyoming - who would expect great Mexican food. They brought us enchiladas with real green chili sauce, chili de arbol - spicy and real peppers. The place is neat, clean and nicely decorated, and the service was great. Next time - margaritas because I saw all of the right stuff for them too!

YUM!!!!! Totally was NOT expecting for this place to be as good as it was. Amazing chips and salsa. The salsa was spicy and had a lot of cilantro, which i loved. I got the chicken fajitas and they were delicious. The chicken and veggies were SO fresh. Loved it ALL. We also got both red and green sauce enchiladas and both were amazing. The green sauce on the enchiladas was so fresh and rich.....we all had a bite and were obsessed. My dad got a burrito and he loved it. Service could have been a tad more friendly. My fajitas didn't come with guacamole, sour cream, or the usual sides, which i thought was weird. But I used the sides that came with my dad's burritos and all was good. We all left so happy and full! THANK YOU OLIVAS!

This is a really nice building and I love the decor. The staff seems a little standoffish - but wasn't terrible. The menu has a wide variety, for instance I ordered a philly cheese steak sandwich. Before the meal you get chips and salsa, which is really good. Chips are great crispiness, and the salsa isn't too hot.. When my meal came, there was a LOT of cheese, and the steak was pretty tough. Their house potatoes are REALLY good. Lots of people seem to like their mexican food, maybe they should just stick to that.

This is, without a doubt, the best mexican restaurant in Sheridan. Food is fast, consistent, and well prepared. The best review is the one that says the least. This is one of the best restaurants in town. Good food, good service, at a fair price. Try it.

Staff was very friendly and service was good. Chips and salsa were on the table almost before we sat down. Salsa was thin, but tasty. Chips were great. Our meal came quickly and was generally good. I like things somewhat spicy, so chicken enchiladas were too mild. Carna asada was tasty. I would go back.

Obviously this place has never had food returned to the kitchen. Great for them, bad for me. Here's what should happen: - Waitress enquires what is wrong, takes the plate, and offers to bring something else Here's what actually happened: - Waitress asks what is wrong, I explain. Waitress walks away and leaves plate there - Waitress returns with front desk girl as interpreter and asks again what is wrong. I explain again and they both leave. The plate is still on the table. - Waitress returns to collect plate and would I like to order something else? Yes! By now, my boyfriend has finished his dinner, so I order a salad thinking it will be quick - Man comes out of kitchen to ask if there is something wrong with the dish, or is it just that I don't like it? Wow. For the third time, I explain, in front of 3 other tables who are hanging onto to every word. Man apologizes, then asks would I like something else? I tell him I thought I had already ordered a salad. - 5 minutes later, salad arrives. By now, far too upset and embarrassed, we pay and leave Well done Oliva's, you have excelled in making a customer feel like a criminal.

Salsa is very fresh and loaded with cilantro. Chips are homemade. Recipes are creative. All in all, a great Mexican restaurant!

Lately, Oliva's has added more Mexican dishes, including a terrific carnitas taco. Ask for a side of pico de gallo. I think the chile relleno has declined from its original yumminess -- now it is a little soggy. When they first opened it was crisp, not buried in sauce and had an avante garde presentation. Now it is just okay. It has a full bar and awesome frozen margaritas heavy on the tequila. There are lots of kiddie dishes such as mac and cheese, plain pasta, grilled cheese and spaghetti with meatballs.

    Excellent food, great patio seating.

We try to eat local on long road trips, so we decided to try this place. Good chips and salsa but cheese enchiladas were unrecognizable; the plate was covered with melted mozzarella and Parmesan, which us not what I would expect for a Mexican dish. Further, what lay underneath the blanket of melted stringiness did not resemble any enchilada I have ever had or made. I was disappointed b/c my father and husband's dishes (chicken mole enchiladas and taco carnitas) arrived at the table and looked more authentic and they commented that their dishes were good (save the tough chicken in the enchiladas). Last thing to note: the actual address is 437 N Main.

Great food. We eat late with 3 boys and all items ordered were of high quality and amounts. Definitely we will come back. We ate outside in the cool evening. The sopas were great.

Was pleasantly surprised with my husband and my dinner. While the restaurant offers American food (pasta dishes), we tried the chicken enchiladas (recommend asking for the green sauce) and chili rellenos. Very good! Friendly staff too. The menu said chips/salsa was $3 but apparently they don't charge for them anymore. There is a fast food version of the same restaurant a few blocks away. Didn't have time to sample this.

at least a roach didn't crawl out of my tiny bland burrito. it would have helped if the chips were not out of a bag or at least tasted like it with very average salsa. Paid near 10 bucks for a ground beef burrito and wish I had not gone back to give them a second chance because taco bell would be a better choice for a third of the price.

A year later: we came here again and were disappointed that some of the food had diminished in quality! I had the carne asada plate -- the steak was only about 5 mm thick and it was tough. A companion had the pork chili we loved so much last time, but found it not nearly as smoky. Everything else was good. Our waitress was wonderful, so they've definitely improved their customer service!

We stopped in for a late lunch not spoil your dinner experience. The chips were good. The salsa was very flavorful but thinner than we like. I'll take thin over no flavor though. We got got the deluxe nachos. They were yummy except the guacamole seemed industrialized. Regardless, we'd return. Service was on the spot

There is nothing homemade about Oliva's Kitchen Home Made Food. The all you can eat tortilla chips were slightly stale and the salsa was practically a soup. The guacamole looked like pudding and tasted frozen. I ordered the red enchilada for my main course which actually was quite tasty. I could obviously tell the chicken was previously frozen. Overall I was pretty disappointed especially when you place the words "Home Made" right in the name of your business. It should be more about the quality and customer experience then pinching a few pennies. I have Mexican cuisine all over the world including San Antonio, D.C. and even Japan. Highly disappointed...

We ended up at Oliva's thanks to Yelp and other reviews. Overall, we'd go back if in Sheridan again and faced with the same limited options. But for poor service, this would be a four star review in the context of what's available for dinner in Sheridan. LOCATION: On Main Street just on the cusp of downtown and right across the street from the Wells Fargo Bank building, which may be the grandest building in all of Sheridan. AMBIANCE: Don't be put off by the unassuming, even dive, exterior as the interior is welcoming. A bouquet of fresh flowers on the eat in counter at the kitchen and another on the host / pay your bill counter. Seating for maybe 45 or so at laminate topped standard height tables and a handful more at kitchen counter. No sardine can seating here, tables had ample comfort space between them. All seems well maintained. During the nearly 90 minutes it took us for dinner (service comment to follow) the place had lots of customers come in. A good sign. FOOD: The surprisingly large, plastic coated multi page menu has Mexican food, standard American food classics and even some pastas. The claim to fame here is Mexican food and we recommend you stick with that. Mole was delicious. Chile Verde was very good said my husband. So were the corn tortillas. Portions are generous. Chips and salsa provided. In comparison to Mexican food restaurants in our town, prices here are a bargain, LIBATIONS: Full but limited bar. Margaritas are mix made. Don't. Most around us were drinking bottled beer or soft drinks. SERVICE Our service experience was poor. Had it been better this would be a four star review. Worth a positive nod to the owners that they had plenty of servers, all young in starting out jobs it seems, working for the small place. The other two servers were doing a better job than the one looking after our table. So your experience may be better than ours, based on luck of the service draw. Our waiter was at the table before we even had our jackets off asking if we wanted a drink. We said we were going to decide and asked for a minute. It took nearly ten minutes for him to come back and only because we asked the young guy who was the host seating a table behind us if we could have water and he said "I'll find your waiter." Waiter came with water. He asked about drinks. Menu listed whiskey and vodka as options. When we asked if the bar had gin, he said he did not know what gin was but he was sure they didn't have it. When we asked if they had tonic he said he had never heard of that so he was sure they didn't have that either. We were going to stick with water when the woman seated across from us, who had a different server, said the bar did in fact have tonic, she had plain tonic every time she came in and held up her tonic filled glass. The guy seated with her said "I drink the gin so I know they have that too." Armed with that information, we each asked our waiter for gin and tonic. He returned with one (mystery) gin and tonic and one Absolute vodka and tonic. Hmm. Go figure. We would have asked for a redo on the latter, but it took nearly 15 minutes for him to come back. I think we scared him off with the bar order. He didn't ask if we wanted more salsa (we did) nor if we wanted more water (we did) so thank goodness for the guy who was wiping up tables coming by to ask and fetch them. Once our order was placed, our meals arrived relatively quickly and the food was good. But it took a very long once we were done eating to get the check. Then after waiting a long, long time for him to come back to take our credit card, we gave up, got up and went to pay at the host desk on the way out. Encountering our waiter as we walked by he said "Oh, are you ready to pay now? Sorry. I guess you can just pay up front." We did. In spite of the lousy service my hubby tipped 15% which he considers a nearly 10% deduction on his going rate. The poor kid just doesn't know better, he said, it is clear he hasn't been trained. Yep. THIS N THAT: 1) :PARKING: Downtown on street parking seems at a premium in Sheridan to great to have a private lot at Olivas. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Level in and all on one floor. They have one accessible parking sign up next to the front door. So the intent here is in the right direction. But for my friends who use wheelchairs or have folks traveling with them who do, it seems to me that makeshift curb ramp up would take small chair and intrepid user to navigate it.

We have lived in the Midwest for a few years and long for the spice and flavor that are commonplace in restaurants in the southwest. The green sauce delivers. The pico de gallo is also great. No matter what you order make sure you get a generous side of the green sauce. We ordered the green enchiladas and they were amazing! The house margaritas are a little sweet but once we muddled the limes it was decent and a good pour! For Wyoming, Montana, and South Dakota it is definitely a 5 star!

Great salsa and chips. Fast service. Portions are large and food is fresh. Right down town.

There was authentic about this 'Mexican' restaurant. I had a taco salad with shredded chicken and my friend had the chicken enchiladas. Sorry, but there is nothing good to say about this place except that it was clean.

Descent food and good service. The green sauce is good. Nothing was spicy, but it was tasty. We'd go back again, given the options in Sheridan.

Surprisingly diverse menu for a small Mexican restaurant in Sheridan Wyoming. my wife had the chicken Molay which consisted of chicken breasts in a spicy mole sauce. I had #1combo, just The right size for a light meal. The five dollar house Margarita was a generous pour. I watch the bartender put two generous shots in each. Give this place a try.

Good food. Enchiladas, tostadas and chicken mole were all very good. Service was good. Ask for a warm basket of chips. The 2nd basket was much better than our 1st.

Oh dear! I really was looking forward to this place. We went with the nachos because $12.95 for a burrito was just crazy. I should have known when we were told the nachos used canned sauce. We asked if it was possible to use chili verde on the nachos but the kitchen said no can do. What!? You can't ladle some chili verde over the nachos? At least we were able to get some (not a lot) real cheese instead of the canned stuff. The overall dish was bland - with carne asada, beans, some cheese, frozen/thawed guacamole and sour cream. I doubt the 'housemade chips' as advertised. If they were made in the house they were made last week. The margaritas were just fair...I'm guessing from a premixed bottle. I always try to end with something positive. .......the salsa was good and the after-dinner might have been the high point of the experience.

This place was a couple of blocks from our hotel. It is not a big place but we were seated promptly without having to wait. The food was okay for the price but just didn't leave an impression. Our server didn't come by much after our food arrived. I think the owner/manager ended up helping us with our bill.

Stopped by here on the way back from Mt. Rushmore to Yellowstone. I was wary of going to a Mexican restaurant out here, so far away from SoCal. But it was pretty good for what they had. The salsa was nice and slightly spicy (spicier than chains and upcale mexican restaurants, but less spicy than our favorite hole in the wall places) so that was surprising and a plus. Had the combo with the shredded chicken pore. Big, sizeable plate, filed with the three items, lots of cheese, beans, rice and sauces, (which is a typical mex chain restaurant thing but there was so much of everything that I didn't mind one bit). Food quality was good, at an upscale-ish place like this, that's kinda expected. Price was ok, maybe a little high but not too bad It's been about a month since visiting and I really can't remember anything at all about my dish (beyond the notes I took above).... However, even though I don't think it was memorable there wasn't anything wrong at all with this place. You could stop by at far worse places. If you get hungry on a drive when passing by Sheridan, stop by here.

Not bad and the proportions of food are just right. I have had better flavor, but the service was good, the price was right and the atmosphere was perfect. The taco salad was excellent and the smothered burrito was had lots of good smothering.

Just finished the fish taco lunch. Every time we come the food is amazing. One of our favorite places to eat.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
