Not many good places to eat in Riverton but this place is pretty good

The other reviewers are correct that for a small town where the options are limited it is pretty good...but... when they surprisingly charged an extra $.50 for BBQ sauce it that was the straw that broke the camels back. They don't give much sauce to begin with and the food needed it. I love BBQ yet this moved them into the okay but sadly disappointing category.

Wow. This is not good BBQ. This is not even mediocre BBQ. This is bad BBQ. Firstly, my iced tea I ordered had some sort of clumpy black crud in the bottom of the glass. It may have been some ancient tea leaves but it didn't really look like it. When I asked for a new drink even the waitress looked at the black clumps and said "Ewwww gross!" yeah, imagine how I felt. On to the BBQ...I am from Texas, I know good smoked brisket. This was the worst brisket I've ever had in my life. It tasted more like it was roasted in an oven, Jewish style brisket, then smoked Texas style. It was sliced extremely thin like you would get from a Quiznos sandwich. I was actually insulted that they labeled their brisket "Texas-style", it was not. Not even close. The pulled pork was greasy and did not taste like it was properly smoked. Again, it tasted like it was done in an oven. The sauce they served on the side was mediocre. The best part of the meal was the baby back ribs. The seasoning was simple and the meat had a good pull off the bone. This is not a smokehouse. This is a restaurant that happens to serve BBQ. One of my other diners got some turkey noodle soup and said it was ok. My recommendation is that if you come to this BBQ restaurant, don't get the BBQ. Yes, I know how that sounds. It was that bad.

This place is pretty tasty! Not the best BBQ in Wyoming (see Bubba's in Cody/Jackson), but up there. I prefer to order the BBQ pork or brisket sandwiches. I just wish they had corn as a side year-round.

I was in Riverton on business and saw the two other reviews with four stars. I was a little concerned when I drove up, it looked like a converted gas station and the restaurant was completely empty. This was on a Tuesday night at 6:45 pm! Under duress, I went in anyway. Understandably I had extremely quick service from the lone waitress, and was told that I could sit anywhere. The inside is typically western. Red checkered table cloths (vinyl covered), wooden chairs, and a faux stove in the middle of the room. From the simple menu, I ordered the combination plate that came with beef brisket, pulled pork, and st. Louis ribs with a side of BBQ beans. I was pleased that the waitress was both knowledgeable on the difference between the types of ribs (they have beef ribs, baby back, and St. Louis), she recommended the 'sticky pig' sauce which was supposed to be sweet with a spicy finish. The food came in just a few minutes, and I decided to try the pulled pork first. It was nicely smoked but lacked any other distinct flavors. When dipped in the sticky pig sauce it was significantly better. But I would recommend giving the pork a miss when compared to the other offerings. The brisket was nicely smoked and had significantly better flavor than the pork. The sticky pig sauce really stood out on the brisket, and in a complimentary way. I was a little disappointed that I only received one St. Louis rib with the meal. It had excellent flavor, rivaling the brisket, a little too fatty, but tasty indeed! It had a nice crust, fell off the bone, and was smoked deeply into the meat. That rib definitely took many hours to smoke. But seriously, only one? Really? I guess I shouldn't complain, the plate, side and drink was a mere $15.00 before tip (it was a non-alcoholic beverage). I have to say it was a good value meal. Portion size ended up being just light enough and about right for me, but big eaters will need to get appetizers, an extra side, or even another combo plate. Speaking of sides, the baked beans (actually pinto) weren't the traditional smokey BBQ beans. A very western flair here. Although the beans were good, had a nice spicy note to them, they were anything but traditional. Overall, a nice visit with an attentive waitress. A good overall dinner value.

If you like BBQ this is it for Riverton. Give these guys a try. They have good food at a pretty decent price. They need to turn up the heat a little during the winter however. Good place for lunch IMHO.
