The Chophouse Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

I've been here several times under both owners, and I must say, when The Chophouse was owned by Ed Vanscoy, it was a much better place. The menu had a wonderful variety of selections and the service was great. Ed and his wife were always in the restaurant, tending bar and chatting with their customers. It was a much classier place. Now, however, I try to stay away from The Chophouse when at all possible. The food is never very good and the service isn't really that great, either. And the menu is quite pared down, with far fewer selections and a lot of the same types of things. The last time I was there, I had the Parmesan Crusted Tilapia...don't get it, it was burnt. And I don't know about you, but burnt Parmesan cheese is not a good taste. Additionally, the fish was dry and pretty flavorless, suggesting it had been frozen. I love seafood, and as a Gillette native, I know there aren't a lot of places to get seafood at all, let alone fresh seafood. So, I was looking forward to some yummy Tilapia and was incredibly disappointed. Not only was the Parmesan crust burnt and the fish dry, the whole plate was cold...the veggies, the rice, the fish. I was expecting a piece of well-cooked fish with yummy veggies and rice pilaf (particularly because I was paying $23.95 for my meal)...but instead, I got a burnt, dry, cold piece of fish, cold veggies and rice. It wasn't even rice pilaf...it was just plain, boring white rice. Also, I waited for 45 minutes for my dinner, which is probably why the fish was burnt and dry...it shouldn't have taken that long. Needless to say, I haven't been back. I probably won't go back, either. I have always thought The Chophouse was an interesting place (it's an old hotel that is supposedly haunted!) with good food and a good atmosphere, but not so much anymore. The music selection is completely inappropriate for the type of atmosphere the building already has and I have yet to meet any of the staff who is what I would call "polite" - with the exception of Charles, the owner. At least he stops by to check on you and your meal now and again....

Over the years, (I have been a customer since they opened) they have really come into their own! Had a wonderful meal last night. Enjoyed the bread...4 tastes in one loaf. Chicken tortellini was tasty. Nice glass of Riesling to accompany. Good service, polite server (not always the case in Gillette). Nice to sit in a separate area AWAY from the smoking in the bar and hope they eventually go smoke free. Had to take away one start for that!

I'm told that this place is pretty hit or miss, sometimes great and others a flop. When I went every patron had on casual clothes, jeans, dirty workbooks, hats, etc for dinner so don't dress nice too much or you'll look out of place. The food was good but nothing pizazzy for the price. The music was a little odd, 'hip top 40's music. A little light jazz would go a long way. Maybe I'll try it again for lunch. Our waitress was nice though and attentive and our waters were always refilled.

I've been here a number of times, and am always pretty happy with it. It's not the greatest meal in the world, but it is great for a town like Gillette. The decor, ambience, etc., could use some work, but the food tastes good and the service is friendly. I recently had the steak au poivre with potatoes lyonnaise and seasonal vegetables and was quite impressed. They did overcook it just a tad beyond what I had asked for, but overall, the dish was quite good.

Spent a week in Gillette and this is the best food we found. Had steak, some kind of stuffed mushrooms and potatoes. I would go back.

So I'm seeing that it's pretty half and half with this place. Our family has been here twice on our way to Idaho, and it was EXACTLY the same both times. That's in a two year span. That would be consistently solid. Ok. I cook for a living and I have lived in big urban areas. The criticisms here are simply stupid and ignorant. The food is well prepared and the waitstaff solid. Please don't judge this place in a unfair way. It's in the middle of nowhere, it's a gem. Word. Oh, get the French onion soup.

This is hands down the best place in Gillette! I've never had a bad meal here. I have ordered everything from seafood to steak and even soups and salads - it's all good! Favorites are the French onion soup, steak tips dianne, steak au poivre, halibut with hazelnut and maple, and the steak debrugo. Money well spent!

Nice ambiance, but my prime rib, which was recommended by the waitress, was a huge disappointment. It was incredibly chewy to eat and full of gristle. Clearly not worth the price.

Had the wonderful French Onion soup, and a very nice pasta dish, both prepared very nicely and served with fresh in house made bread. Nice compliment to both the soup and the pasta dish. We would eat here again. The wait staff was very nice too.

For Valentine's day my husband decided to treat me to dinner at the Chophouse - it's one of the fancier establishments that Gillette has to offer (though the dress is still casual). Without a doubt we were headed into a craze since everyone goes out for this holiday. It wasn't extremely packed when we got there, but the mob followed suit - the crowd even caused a waiter to walk out! Despite all the hustle and bustle surrounding, it was the date night we needed. The food was absolutely fantastic and the staff we interacted with stayed friendly, always giving smiles and making sure we were doing okay. My husband and I both had the Filet Modena, tender filet mignon with a delicious balsamic sauce. I also had a side of French Onion soup - it's my favorite soup lately and the Chophouse offers some of the best! Things may seem pricey, but it has always been worth it.

Service was excellent, great steaks and wonderful atmosphere. Had a business dinner and it was my first visit to the Chophouse. The lobster mushrooms were a great appetizer - I highly recommend them. We had ribeye steaks and they were done right, although my guests was a bit overdone. No matter, we both enjoyed the meal. The waitress was very friendly and helpful with suggestions. Extensive draft beer list featuring local brews. For dessert the chef made up a fruit cup of fresh strawberries and melons that was perfect. Overall we had a wonderful meal and I will be back again.

Went for lunch couldn't find a waiter to save my life. Had to go in the kitchen to ask the 68 year old unprofessionally dressed chef if they were open. Finally wait staff showed up to say I could sit anywhere. The food was pretty good, I will give them a shot again. But more customers came in that I had to help because the wait staff disappeared again. Very strange that the wait staff wasn't interested in tips.

We had steak poivre. It was excellent and I would get it every time I come to Gillette. Everything else was good too. Atmosphere was ok and service ok.

Clearly the best restaurant in Gillette Wyoming! This is a nice fine dinning restaurant with high quality food and good service. I have had the pleasure to eat here several times over the past two years and I find that it is the best restaurant n town. A bit pricey, but worth it considering the quality. They do have a diversified menu so there is something for everyone.

Went back last night and had a completely different experience! It was wonderful. The steaks were great and service was great! Just wish they had regular mashed potatoes on special mashed potatoe nights

I've been in Gillette many times, but had never made it over here; that was my loss. The food was excellent! One of our party had been here before and recommended the Calamari for an appetizer. After spending some time in Portugal, I abhor marginal Calamari. This was excellent! The special was an Oriental Chicken over rice and vegetables. It was also very good; spicy but not too hot. And the chicken was moist and tender. My only complaint is that all they had for beer were bottles. They were pushing their wines. Don't get me wrong; I like a good wine. But I prefer a good IPA. At least they had one IPA in the bottle.

Our waitress was terrible and the food was not much better. It took forever for us to get our food!! I could hardly cut my steak. I have never reviewed restaurants before but I made a yelp account specifically to review this one. We will never come back to this restaurant.

Great selection of seafood and unique steaks- not to mention the wine list seems never ending. The bill will be on the higher side, but the extra quality of the experience is well worth the added costs.

Very overpriced for what we got. Even at half the price I'd still give it one star for food and service. I told our waitress my chicken was too dry and had the texture of an old boot and she huffed and walked away.

Horrible. Just plain horrible. The food being the focal point of "horrible". A steak salad consisted of a few pieces of ice berg lettuce taken from the core, several onion slices and shoe leather textured beef on top. Even after making a reservation and informing them of our large party they waited until we arrived to move tables together and even uprooted seated customers mid meal to move them! My husbands meat was so over done he couldn't eat it and he's a carnivore! When we both complained about our less then quality meals the waiter went to speak to the chef, upon his return he told us all the chef did was shrug his shoulders. They truly do not care about customer satisfaction. Another big down point is their location; across the street from several local bars. Many times extremely inebriated people from the bar will come in looking to satiate the "beer munchies" and keep the loud bar-vibe going. (Note: I never go here voluntarily but typically get pushed into going by family obligation). For example a table of unbelievably drunk people were seated next to our table which included my 11yr old daughter. A less then savory drunk woman sitting about 4ft from us was literally screaming about opening a sex toy shop, dildos, blowing some guy, and a bunch of other things I just refuse to repeat. We asked staff to move their table or ask them to leave as the woman also began throwing chunks of bread at people but the staff completely ignored it and never said a word to her! You're gonna get a better meal and quieter experience eating in a McDonalds Playroom.

I've been to the Chophouse a handful of times over the years. We get quite a bit of catering from the Chophouse at work. I've liked it at times, and other times been dissapointed. Last night the wife and I went for a rare date night. The "special" that was advertised online was not the special that was served. This really dissapointed me, as the special is what drew me to choose the Chophouse that night. Steak fingers were hot and cooked well...but fairly gristly. Salad was iceberg lettuce....fairly old. not as bad as the Rib but still not reall appetizing. I picked out several pieces of lettuce that were unappetizing. It was also drowned in dressing. I don't like limp lettuce and most of the salad I couldn't eat as the iceberg was just dripping wet. Walleye was ok, very bland. Carribean salad had too many flavors and fairly unappetizing shrimp. Grilled asparagus was excellent. all 3 spears of it. garlic mash was good. Waitress was surprised when I asked for a clean fork. all in all, kind of a dissapointing dinner. Something always dissapoints at the Chophouse for dinner. Either the food, or the service, or the fact that the music is too loud. I've had good meals at the Chophouse, but looking back I would say that they are all lunches. So I'll go back for Lunch but probably never again for dinner. Which is too bad because I remember when I first moved to Gillette I always thought that the Chophouse was the better, and under appreciated of the two main steakhouses in Gillette.

Was in Gillette for work and found The Chophouse. I was pleasantly surprised. I read some of the other reviews, and I would agree that the dress and the people are casual, but the food tasted good and the staff was friendly and helpful. Food is not fancy, but approachable and passable. I was comfortable at the bar, it seemed to have a friendly regular crowd and a cool staff. Nice to find that kind of spot on the road.

You are in Gillette. So, you're going to be dining with people wearing blue jeans and boots. They probably just got off of work. By work, I mean a real job, not sitting behind a desk writing emails. So, now that we have established that this is Gillette and not Catalina, or Napa, let's talk about the food and service. I have been here many times. The food is mostly a hit. I have had an occasional miss. Service has always been good (which is a huge feat in Gillette). I recommend the steak au poivre, the ribeye, and the chicken picatta. They used to have a wedge salad with a bleu cheese dressing that was spectacular, but in no longer see it on the menu (change of ownership?) they have a decent wine selection, and a full service bar. The place is often very busy. Call ahead. Parking can be difficult, but it is not impossible. Just drop your guests off in front and drive around the side. The prices are not expensive at all. They could charge whatever they want, but their prices are in line with nice restaurants in other mid size cities. Once you come to terms with the fact that you are no longer in L.A., you are in the place that provides electricity to half the people in this country, you might be able to enjoy your surroundings a little more. I wouldn't expect to find fresh sushi, or jet fresh seafood here. It's common sense.

It was a shock when we walked. Way fancier than we expected! It's kind of pricey, but well worth it! I had the cowboy burger. The best burger I have had in a very long time! A great find!

Normally I would give The Chop House a better rating. However, my latest experience was quite poor. I ordered the "Special" and when it arrived at the table my fish was completely undercooked. Seared, but mostly raw on the inside. I believe someone in the kitchen was not paying attention... Service, while pleasant, is typically slower than average. It seems they ask their wait staff to cover entire rooms of the restaurant. Not fair to the customers or the staff. The food is typically delicious and well prepared. My entree mishap I'm sure is not typical, but it definitely knocked this restaurant down on my preferred list.

Good service and quality ingredients, cooking was average. The waitress interrupted our meals and conversation numerous times (besides taking our orders and bringing our food) during our hour and half dinner, just to ask repeatedly "how's everything" like ten times, it felt excessive and a bit annoying.

I was so happy when I moved to Gillette and found The Chophouse; Finally a place I can get an excellent meal that is worth every penny. Being from San Francisco I love seafood. The first place I had seafood here was Prime Rib and my boyfriend and I swore we wouldn't touch seafood again until we were back in California. It was horrible and we could tell it was frozen. When I discovered the Chophouse I found out that they fly in FRESH seafood EVERYDAY! There are seafood specials almost daily and the chef always comes up with something tasty and unique to pair with the seafood. Their mashed potatoes are also made fresh every day and always have something new in them. The horseradish ones are to die for! Lastly, I crave their house salad dressing. It's a creamy, raspberry pear vinaigrette that is also made in house and tastes delish on their salad. Not sure what all these other peeps are complaining about. The prices are what you'd pay at any other excellent restaurant around the country. I think these people are complaining just because this is in Gillette, WY, but what the hell can't we have a nice, upscale place eat? If the prices are really that "shocking" to you, enjoy Taco Johns and shut your mouth.

My mediocre experience at "Gillette's finest restaurant" may not be entirely Chophouse's fault. The staff made a valiant effort at being classy, but the patrons were a different story. The dress was very casual. There were baseball caps, t-shirts, sneakers, babies, well, you get the picture. One guy behind us let out a huge, unapologetic belch in the middle of our dinner. I couldn't help but crack up and think, man, I'm not in Chicago anymore. The meal itself was also mediocre, for the price. It started off with the standard bread and salad. There was nothing special about either. For my main course, I had mahi mahi, sweet potatoes, veggies and roasted red peppers. My favorite part of the meal was the red peppers. It had a good flavor that I soaked up with the rest of the bread. Unfortunately the rest of my meal wasn't that great. The mahi mahi was unevenly cooked, so the edges were pretty dry. The pesto sauce on top was its saving grace. I usually like sweet potatoes, but their mashed sweet potatoes were too sweet for my taste. My boyfriend had steak, which was also unevenly cooked and lacked flavor. His meal came with the exact same vegetables and potatoes as mine. In the end, if you want something classy in Gillette, Chophouse may be your only option. Just go with the expectation that the atmosphere is comparable to Applebees. P.S. They took away the Jelly Bellies because of swine flu.

When you come to Gillette there are two places everyone says are good restaurants, The Chophouse and The Prime Rib. The problem I have is that they just aren't that great. Now.. with that said, i'm still giving the Chophouse 4 stars because it's better than The Prime Rib and I gave that place 3 stars so i can't give it the same rating since I like it better. The Chophouse wins out on customer service compared to the Prime Rib and twice on sunday. I've always liked the service at The Chophouse, no complaints at all. The food at the Chouphouse is also better as well. A good menu with lots of choices. Food is always well prepared and consistent. I've never had the problems I have at the Prime Rib where one day it's good and then next it's blahh.. it's just always pretty good. The only thing I dont' really like at the Chophouse is the dingy carpet. I dont' know what it is about me and carpet in restaurants but I just don't like it. I feel like i'm stuck in some horrible rehash of the 70's, and I wasn't even alive in the 70's, it's just how I imagine the 70's to be... bad carpet. Stick some hardwood floors in there and we are good to go. When all is said and done I still prefer the Chophouse to the Prime Rib and since those are the two choices people toss out I figured I would compare them a little bit and as for me.... I give the nod to The Chophouse.

BRRRRRRRAP! BRRRRRRRRAP! That's the sound of my snow monster chopping at the snowy hills. And that's sound of me after eating here!! And like Trevor says, "don't put sauce on my steak!" Medium rare for the 100-yard stare! BRRRRRAP! BRRR BRRR! BRRRRR! BRRRAAPP PAP PAPP!

I stopped by the Chophouse for lunch and it was really good. Our server was attentive and all of the staff were very friendly. I'm very particular about my steak and this place did not disappoint. Even at lunch, the portions were large and filling. Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. The parking is a little tough since the restaurant is in the downtown area but definitely the best meal I had while visiting Gillette!

It's the only thing here... So yeah. Went there after a long car trip, and it was good but not great. We order a steak medium-well and it was RARE. Plus the owner was at the next table over talking to "regulars" and he just sat there and laughed. But the waiters are really good so if you hungry it's..well....fine??

Don't know what you are used to here in Gillette, but this is subpar as far as service and food. It was something I could have gotten at a chain restaurant and paid much less for it. My husband and I both had Steak Au Poivre.......it took way too long to bring out to us.....I ordered med rare and he ordered med and we waited over 30 mins after the soup and salad. Our dining guest had the halibut and was not impressed. This meal was nothing I would care to repeat and will not return.

I was unimpressed as you can see from the single star. The food was overpriced and not very good. I ordered the chicken piccata, supposedly one of the restaurant's specialities. I don't know what they brought to the table, but it was not chicken piccata. Instead, it looked like chicken and overcooked pasta floating in a bowl of Parmesan soup. It was virtually indelible. My husband ordered the asagio crusted strip steak, medium rare. It was overcooked on the outside. The vegetable consisted of three small pieces of asparagus. Both dishes were overpriced. The only wines available by the glass were the house wines which were mediocre. Service started out slow but got better as the meal went on.

Came here while in town for a night on a motorcycle ride, and left satisfied. My list of positives would include: interesting interior, cozy feel, good burger, good waiter service, reasonable prices. Negatives are all minor. It would have been a nicer customer service experience if someone had been at the host station to say 'good evening' or 'thanks for coming', or if a server had said the same as I was leaving. They had live music (which can be good or bad) the night I was there... when I arrived, the guitarist was playing a list from his comfort zone, but then (I think trying to please a table near him) he took a request for a song that definitely wasn't anywhere near 'fine dining experience guitar background music.' My waiter was friendly, prompt, and attentive without being overbearing. The food wasn't jaw-dropping cuisine but was tasty and prepared well. I had two drinks which were both made well, not weak or strong. I would come back, but I would be likely to give another place in town a try before returning.

Spent one night in Gillette on a long car trip, decided on this restaurant based on positive reviews elsewhere. Everything was superb. The atmosphere was great, quiet but comfortable and friendly. My companion's NY strip steak was seasoned perfectly, cooked perfectly (he ordered it rare, it arrived rare), juicy and tender. Really delicious. His sweet potato fries were better than we've had anywhere else, even his green salad was a cut above average. I ordered a 1/2 pound black angus burger with maytag bleu cheese and bacon. They didn't ask how I wanted my burger cooked, but it arrived medium-well as I preferred. Again, delicious. The meat was tender and flavorful, the quantity of cheese was just right and the bacon was among the best I've ever had. The dill pickle on the side was also perfect. I'm sad to say I may not be back in Gillette any time soon, but I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone who likes good beef.

We also heard that this was a must eat place. The people were certainly nice enough. However, seeming as we were the only customers in the restaurant, other than a table of two across the way, we were amazed as the incredibly slow service. We waited 90 minutes for our dinner. The meat was good when it arrived as well as the rest of food, but there was just no excuse for the wait. This is an area that need particular attention paid to it.

The staff is excellent and very friendly. I have been in very nice steakhouses that charge similar prices so their high prices didn't surprise me, but when I got my meal and it looked like a frozen banquet entree....I was angry to say the least. In most steakhouses, when you pay $28.00 for a steak, you get one that is worth the money. The Chophouse served me a 3" steak. You get bigger ones from franchise restaurants like "Perkins". One side was so overcooked that there was 1/4" deep charred meat. The asparagus tasted like I bit off a piece of sagebrush and the twice baked potato was horrible. My husband's meal was equally disappointing. This was our first "date night" in over 2 years and this was such a disappointment. Don't waste your money!
