Wow, what a pleasant surprise this was! My man (MM) recently did some work on the Painted Lady Saloon next door (which is a very cool bar - subject for another review maybe) and was looking for a quick lunch I could just grab and bring over to him. Even though Dave's primary focus is meats and catering, they have a small deli on-site that does a daily lunch special. For $6-7, you get a hot toasted sandwich (I got a gyro, MM got a beef and cheddar) on what looks to be home-made bread (if it's not homemade, it's very fresh), plus a cup of soup (they usually have 2 daily choices) and a small bag of chips. My gyro came with cucumber sauce that was delicious and flavorful and to my delight didn't taste like it was cut with mayonnaise. MM's beef and cheddar sandwich was served on Texas-toast size wheat bread and had fried onions in it. We tried both the Southwest chicken soup and cheesy potato; both were good and tasted homemade. The lady behind the counter was very friendly and efficient. In fact, while I was there, a young man was picking up a large order for a work crew and she got it all put together in record time. If there's any downside to Dave's, it's that they only do the lunch specials on weekdays, plus they don't have any indoor eating space at all. They do have a couple of small tables outside, but during Wyoming's notoriously cold winters, you wouldn't want to sit there. During the balmier seasons, though, the Bear River Greenway just across the street has benches and picnic tables, as does Historic Depot Square just around the corner. In any case, we'll definitely patronize Dave's again when we're in the mood for a good carry-out lunch. We're always up for a good value!
