I've been here 2 times. The first was for sushi and it was ok. The second time it was for tempura and I do not recommend that. It was overly greasy. The service by the staff have been super.

Now I will say I am a foodie, & well traveled so not a "local" heehaw opinion. The service isn't that great but the atomic shrimp was delicious, the Yellowstone roll was fun, & flavorful. For dessert I had the asian donuts with condensed milk, they where fantastic, really glad there is a little variety in Cody, I will definitely return.

For a land locked state the sushi here is good. A little pricey, but good atmosphere and good food

We waited nearly two hours for a sushi meal here. We sat in front as the back Booths were full. The waitress took her time getting to us and then coming back for our order. Once we ordered we waited forever for our meal. After over an hour we spoke up. We should have left then. Eventually, when served, we were offered a 10% discount for the delay. This amounted to $2.50 per hour for our party. Did I mention, this was sushi we were waiting for. It's not like we were waiting for it to bake, simmer or steam. On our way out, as a parting shot, the waitress questioned our parenting. Apparently she thinks good modeling includes accepting terrible service quietly. I disagree.

We came in the front door and waited to be seated. A couple shot past us to sit at the bar. One waitress yelled at us to find a seat then proceeded to wait on the couple ahead of us. Two other couples were moved from the front to the back. She slapped down menus and took off. We never saw our waitress again. After 20+ minutes we walked out. It's not even summer yet and they were rude, unorganized and unprofessional. Never again.

You can't say it gets any more unique than a Japanese restaurant sitting just a block or two from Buffalo Bill's famous old "Hotel in the Rockies", The Irma, on main street in Cody, WY. It may not be as unusual as you would think, considering one piece of local history: Heart Mountain. Shiki sits about 10 miles south of Heart Mountain itself, and about 12 miles southwest of its infamous namesake: The Heart Mountain relocation center. One of several Japanese internment camps set up in World War II by the U.S. Government. Makes the fact that Shiki is here all that more interesting. Shiki is a simple restaurant, with a series of tables up front that would not be out of place if this were a casual diner. There are a few seats at the "Sushi bar" on the left, and a series of Japanese style booths along the right wall further inside. The rectangular tables invite you to take your shoes off, and sit at the low central table. I believe there are some private rooms further back, but I didn't go far enough in to see them. It took four or five minutes for the waiter to greet us and to take our drink order: water and an unsweetened tea. It took about the same amount of time to get them to our table. I should add there were only two other tables here at 1:00 in the afternoon. This delay gave us plenty of time to peruse the menu. The selection is fair, with a number of "locally inspired" rolls, such as the Heart Mountain, the Cody, etc. We settled on two bowls of "Spicy Fish Soup" to start,(at $6.00 each) , and to split a 10 piece "Volcano Roll", and one other 8 piece roll ($10.00) that I don't recall the name of. We ordered, and once again, the wait was moderate, at 8 to 10 minutes, just to get our soup. So here comes the soup. One word - Phenomenal. One of the best things I have eaten in a long time. Pleasing warm chunks of tuna, nicely firmed by the hot broth, a flaky white fish, shrimp, thinly sliced carrots and scallions, and the most fantastic "just right" spicy broth. There was also a small scallop left clinging to its parental shell nestled along the side of the bowl (as seen in the accompanying photo). I can't recommend this dish enough. Go just for this. Sell something if you have to, to get this soup. Was there a down side? Yep - heavily chipped soup bowl (see pic). Not a proper bowl for broth this good. Just as we were finishing our soup, the sushi rolls arrived. They were warm, as if the rice had just come out of the pot. Unfortunately, this translated to two roll that fell apart when you tried to lift them, with none of the firm texture I am used to when hefting sushi with a set of chopsticks. The Volcano roll was especially difficult to eat, as it had a warm crab mixture on top that made it hard to delineate where one piece ended and the next piece began. It was flavorful enough, with cucumber and cream cheese to accompany the deep fried crab, but only OK. The same lack of firmness applied to the second roll, which had eel, scallions and a spicy mayo tucked inside. OK, but also hard to handle. This whole thing was accompanied by a sufficient amount of wasabi and ginger, as well as a couple of little mixing dishes for the soy sauce. We wished to know what type of white fish and spice was in the soup, so we asked our waiter for that info. After he checked with the "Sushi chef", he told us no one in the kitchen knew what the ingredients were. This was disappointing to say the least. We also found out later that they have a lunch special Monday through Friday, but this was not mentioned. If it was noted on the menu, we certainly missed it. So the good parts - Sushi in Cody and the most wonderful Spicy Fish Soup I've ever had. The bad parts - Slow service, so-so structurally flawed sushi rolls, a lack of ingredient knowledge, minimal décor, high prices, and a "tired" feel to the place. One ice tea, two bowls of soup, two sushi rolls, a moderate tip, and a $50 bill and I parted company there. Pretty expensive for what we got, but it was my daughter's birthday weekend, and hey, she felt like sushi, and we were in Cody. I would come back for the soup, and would give the sushi one more try, but I will definitely come back for that soup.

Decent sushi for Wyoming, same price as sushi in Denver. Too much rice in sushi rolls, rolls very large and difficult to eat. Good service.

Hmm, I have to make it clear first that this is a good enough to find a Japanese restaurant owned by real Japanese. But the service, meh. Four of us arrived at July 4th night and we were the only customer. We ordered 4 dishes and the waiter never warned us those were too much for us. The portion is so big, the taste is below the average. We ended up not finishing even 1/3 and spent around $30 per person.

Never been to a japanese resturant that you were not at least greated as you come in. rice is everything to japanese food. rice came out too dry. the avacado that was used was brown should have never been used the meat in the yakisoba was like jerky. the gyoza skin was too chewey. talked to the wait staff and was told that I should write down my coments as the chef would not listen to his own staff.

Not good. Spicy tuna roll was like mush and poorly put together. The pork dumpling in my dumpling soup was delicious, but the broth was bland and the vegetables were firm, which is not good in soup. The "J.B. roll" was nearly half cream cheese. I like cream cheese, so it wasn't that bad for me, but it definitely shied away from the fish. The fish did not taste fresh and I'm pretty sure it was frozen. They advertise fresh, so it's a little disappointing that our versions of "fresh" are so different. The spicy salmon was also like eating mush. Go here if you have a sushi craving, but not if you have another option.

Sushi in Cody,WY? Yup. This place isn't the most sophisticated sushi joint but it's nicely decorated an clean. I kept it simple, a California Roll & a sunamomo salad. It was pretty darn tasty. My server Madaline was a sweet heart, she was super busy but still managed a nice smile and great service. All good!!

I cant comment on the food. We went in, were seated and then the waitress promptly ignored us to get on the phone for a take out order. We waited and waited and then decided not to wait anymore. When the waitress saw we were leaving she got off the phone and came over and said she was sorry, but they take turns to take tables and it wasnt her turn. I let her know I dont reward bad service with my good money and left

Absolutely delicious! The sashimi was excellent as were the Godzilla roll and atomic shrimp. Will definitely come back again!

Owners are great and hard working. But they have a hard time getting good staff. 9/10 you expect to have a waitress that doesn't care. (Unless its the owner) But for a sushi place in Wyoming I think it's pretty darn good! Very good curry and teriyaki. Heart mountain roll is good!

Vegetarian tourists with two young kids in Cody, WY, and we had a h-a-r-d time finding places to eat here. My husband is Japanese so we figure we'll always be able to finagle our way around a Japanese menu, and we were right. We found it expensive but, of course, it was mitigated by both the fact that that it's in a seasonal tourist town and also, we wanted to eat something vegetarian. What we had was tasty, hit the spot, and we were definitely happy with the quality. Our server was a lovely girl, helpful, friendly. Our youngest child has Exceptional Needs and is in a wheelchair, and the restaurant was fully accessible, too.

Normally I would avoid sushi while in Wyoming but after weeks of red meat I felt the need for something different. The decor is pretty basic at Shiki. At least they don't feel the need to make it "ethnic" just because. The server was very nice and prompt to help. I ordered a sushi assortment and was very impressed with the freshness and the quality of the rice was excellent. Just because you are in Wyoming doesn't mean you can't feed your raw fish needs. Go to Shiki!

Sushi in the Wild West? Who would have thought it? Okay, you can find better sushi in San Francisco - but I was very impressed by Shiki - given the lack of dining options in Cody. I like Cody - it is a cute town and can be fun for a few days - but the food tends to be very beefy if you get what I mean. Plus it is a small town - so there are maybe twenty restaurants in the whole downtown. Shiki offers a good alternative to the standard steak & fill-in-the-blank fare. We especially liked the Heart Mountain roll - ten pieces served on a dish sprinkled with tempura flakes and a sweet sauce - great flavor and a little different. Also the Shumai shrimp dumplings were a tasty appetizer.

Traveling for work. Again. Missin my east coast sushi. So I took a gamble on the so so reviews for Shiki. ...So good. Cute restaurant- kind of bare bones but cute. Sushi fresh, good. Enjoying it right now. Go-try it.

The flavors in the sushi offerings were good. The side salad was good, and the ginger dressing was amazing. Too bad, that's where the "good" stops. Unlike most sushi restaurants, there was no heated cloth to clean fingers - either before or after the meal. No handy-wipes either. The knife work preparation did not exist. Cucumber pieces were about 1/2" square matching the overwhelming size of all other ingredients in the roll. The roll was consequently a gargantuan size - over 2" across, and refused to keep itself together. How do you eat THAT???

It was nice to have good sushi in Cody but it was really expensive! Maybe east coast sushi is cheaper in general but I couldn't believe that an Alaska roll was $8.95! I'm used to paying around $5.95 for that in New Jersey. It was all pretty good though. I tried the Heart Mountain roll and didn't like it at all, but that is due to my general not liking of tempura. The california and boston rolls I had were delicious. The staff was attentive, the atmosphere was normal asian decor. I would have liked to seen a better presentation at the sushi bar and my plate but really, I wasn't expecting much other than tasty sushi and that is what I got.

We give it 3 stars for being sushi and in Cody... otherwise, prices are on the high side; service is always very slow; and our meals have been all over the place from "really good" to just okay. Usually we will make the drive to the Asian Sea Grill and Sushi Bar in Billings if what we are really looking for is a great meal.

great tofu in Wyoming? Yes it's possible, this place rocks. After about 3 weeks of tofu deprivation this place hit the spot. The service was slow and the prices a bit high otherwise I would be giving it 5 stars. I will definitely be back YUMMY

I was in Cody on a business trip and came by this place with the help of Yelp. I had the Sashimi salad, tuna sashimi and banana egg rolls for dessert. The salad and sashimi were good solid dishes. The banana eggs rolls were huge (do not try to eat this by yourself) but were every bit as good as the best Banana's Foster as I have every had. The service was a bit slow but the food was good.

I have to say that we are spoiled living along the California coast so I can't be too pickey about sushi in Wyoming. The rolls here are WAY over priced. They are tiny. The nigiri was good though - especially the Escolar.
