My family and I celebrated my in-laws 55th wedding anniversary at Fujiyama Summersville last night. The place was packed- we expected this. The restaurant is new in an area where the dining landscape is rather dismal. We waited at the bar for about an hour. The bartender was busy, but not overwhelmed. She was polite and kept the drinks coming. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and seemed enthusiastic about working in the new hot spot. Our server was Elena; she was assisted by another server. Elena kept my dinner mates happy, or at least well lubricated with appetizers and drinks while the chef, Nick, entertained. Nick proffered knife tricks, one liners, and pranks involving his wares. He was charismatic and engaging. We started with a Philly roll and the Crazy Dragon. Both hand rolls tasted fresh and were attractively presented. At my table we had the seafood delight, chicken and shrimp, surf and turf, and strip steak. Everyone enjoyed their meals- the portions were ridiculously and we left with stuffed bellies and to-go boxes. My in-laws where congratulated on 55 years of marital bliss and given fried nice cream. Our gracious server was surprised by her tip and asked if she could refund a portion- I thought that was charming. I waited tables very briefly at a similar restaurant and if memory serves correctly the server tips out to bar, hostess, and chef. Remember that when tipping. In all, we had an enjoyable evening and would happily return.
