Friendly! Food was good - pulled pork was delicious as waa the bacon double cheeseburger. Grilled the buns. Everything that should be hot was. Owner greeted us warmly. He was busy the entire time.

My wife and I were traveling back from Hilton Head/Charleston SC vacation to our home in Mentor OH. We needed a spot to grab a bite to eat and checked Yelp. Neither one of us are thrilled with fast food freeway spots, so we gambled after reading some reviews. Were we pleasantly surprised. Easy to get to from I-77 in the center of Ripley, we got in a little before noon. Reminded my wife of the restaurant in any small town, but you could tell this was a fun place to eat. Our waitress who I FORGOT TO GET HER NAME, was our lunch entertainment. After changing our orders based on her recommendations, we got served faster than anticipated. Wife got the pulled-pork lunch plate and I got a bacon cheeseburger w/ beer batter fries. Both sandwiches were served HOT! Also very tasty. Burger bun had been grilled and with the burger really felt like those I make on my grill. The pulled pork, according to my wife, stood up with those from the Carolina's!! When you are in this area traveling, get off the beaten trail and stop in for a meal that will not disappoint you! We will be sure to stop back when we travel North or South on I-77 which we do oftern.

I am a fan of the Downtowner..it has been here forever!!! I actually had a job here about 30 yrs ago behind the counter and cooking. The food is homemade and delicious.. It is actually like one of those little diners you see on tv shows or you think of when you here Diner..it has a long counter for peeps to sit at, then there are booths for groups and a few tables in the middle. They bring you a glass of water when you sit down with your menu. The food is reasonable and the wait staff is so quick. The food is so great!! and best of all HOMEMADE...you have to try a slice of pie with a cup of delicious coffee.. I also enjoy eating breakfast here!!!

I was driving back to Ohio from Naples Florida where I had eaten nothing but horribly expensive meals for three weeks. We didn't want a fancy lunch but didn't want fast food either and stumbled across this place on yelp. It's about 2 miles from I-77 and situated in a little town that looks like Mayberry. The restaurant is very simple and the people who dine and work there are just good old fashioned hard working folks. If you're pretentious at all, you'll hate it. If you like good food and delightful people, you'll love it. I found the roast beef and mashed potatoes and gravy to be so good I took home 5 take out orders! The owners of this restaurant had never heard of yelp. Tell them you read this and maybe post something yourself if you go. I look forward to seeing them on my drive next year!

My staff and I met with Ripley residents at the Downtowner Restaurant this week for my statewide listening tour. Not only was the staff tremendously kind and accomodating, but the egg sandwich was outstanding. My staff member, Chris, got the cheeseburger and he was also very satisfued. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone in West Virginia or traveling through the area.

This is a nice, home cooking place, where the food is fresh, the service friendly, and the prices cheap, In other words, a good lunch stop just 5 minutes from I-77.
