Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

The best Mexican restaurant around Marietta/Parkersburg. Their Margaritas are so good and so strong! Two of them will get you feeling pretty good. Their salsa is amazing, just the right mixture of spicy and sweet. Waiters are friendly and food is out quick. Definitely the spot for a quick lunch or dinner!

This is the first time we've been back in a while, and over that time the service has went down hill. Our hostess wasn't friendly, the waiter who brought out the chips and salsa just threw it on the table and walked away. Then our waiter came and was very short and rude with us for some reason. We haven't even gotten our food, but this will be out last time coming here.

While I do like Tampico better, El Ranchero does have great chips & salsa, good rice and I love their salsa verde that comes on certain dishes. Steak fajitas and grilled chicken are awesome also. Service is a little slow and apathetic, but overall, one of your best bets for Mexican food in Parkersburg.

I've been coming here for the last 6 years but haven't been much in the last year due to the service and food going down hill. like Tampicos in Marietta (only Marietta - the one in pburg is horrible) better but "The Ranch" will do in a pinch if I must. My latest visit included my favorite thing from "The Ranch", it's the Chile Relleno. It's very tasty and the best in the area from here. I also ordered the Burrito Deluxe. It's two burritos, chicken or steak. I always order chicken since I don't like the steak from here. All in all - It's the food is lacking spice and flavor but it's will do from time to time.

This place is really a mixed bag. The staff are really friendly and food comes out super fast. My main complaints are the following: the menus are covered in layers of grime and sticky finger debris. The huge $5 margarita I ordered came out in a hot glass just out of the dishwasher.. the fresh hot tortillas are great but the salsa is not good and probably comes from a vat of cheap commercial salsa. The fajitas are excellent- searingly hot and tons of toppings (my husband had the Texas fajitas- steak, chicken AND shrimp). We were seated in the middle dining room but the noise coming thru the kitchen wall was jarring. A high powered kitchen hose was undoubtedly being sprayed directly against the other side of the wall and was accompanied by loud banging. This isn't an elegant place but the food was decent and nobody got sick.

I've been eating here for years this place is why i love Mexican food to this day! Although Ive found some better food out there you will never have a bad experience here the servers are always amazingly friendly just give them a chance.

I was hoping for a great Mexican meal and by the way people on Yelp talk about this place I was excited. Well.....it is not true. The service was great, but the flavor of the food was horrible. -The salsa had almost no flavor -The fajita burrito had a white cheese sauce----gross -The meat and vegetables had NO seasoning -The plate the food was served on was steaming hot like the food was sitting in an oven -The burrito was not even wrapped. The meat and veggies were just covered with the flour tortillas I would not come here again! Wait....if my grandma wants Mexican I would bring her here since there is no flavor in their food.

I've been coming here for about 4 years. Whenever I am in Parkersburg, I make sure to have a lunch or dinner here (or two...). The place isn't much from the outside, and kinda quirky to get to from the traffic circle (go around the KFC, left at light and then into the parking lot...). The service is great. There are some guys that have been there since my first visit, and a few new guys. I partially judge a Mexican place by its staff's 'authenticity', and it is quite authentic here! An owner at one point spent some time in the clink for work+immigration violations, so that's a good thing in my book. The food is good - remember that everything in the region is 'spiced-down' if you're coming from the south or out west - so ask if they can ad a little more hot, or order a side of grilled jalapenos (they will also give you a sizable bowl of pickled jalapenos, too.. ). I think the best dinner things on the menu, in no order, include: The carnitas (pork), California burrito (like a burrito, but lighter - with more air inside rather than beans+rice), and the Texas Fajitas (huge! as big as your head!). All of these can be had for $9-12. For lunch, the heuvos rachenro lunch is fun, as are most combination platters. The only thing I wouldnt recommend is the taco salad with chicken - it was watery for some reason, twice over the years. The beef one is good, though. You can have lunch and a drink for $6... My dinners, with a HUUUUGE draft Dos Equis, are around $12-14. Fantastic deal. One tip, avoid Monday nights - Monday is Mariachi Band night... While it might be fun once, I find it annoying. And, the place is quite busy on Monday. Monday night is the only time I've ever waited for a table.

Tried this place twice now while visiting. Food is passable, but the entire restaurant always reeks of bleach and ammonia. If you can get past the smell, it's (sadly) the best Mexican food in town.

Fast excellent service. Food is Okay, I like it enough to keep coming back. Chips and salsa starters are good. The oils and sauces definitely indicate that it is not a health-food kind of menu.

The food was okay, though not outstanding. We had the fajitas and they were grilled nicely. The combination Senora plate was rather jumbled together, looking like I'd been through a buffet and stacked my plate. Beers were cold and served in frosted mugs. Chips were nice though the salsa was rather flavorless. Queso Cheese dip was good.

Have eaten here several times and never had a less than excellent meal. Very good prices, great service. Try the juevos rancheros.

This restaurant really knows how to make you feel like an amigo. (Which is what the waiters call you) This is the best Mexican food in the tristate area, and people know it. Whenever we happen to be anywhere in the vicinity, we tend to come up with an excuse to gorge ourselves here. El Ranchero epitomizes what a good Mexican restaurant should be because: -They offer warm, complimentary never ending fresh tortilla chips and salsa. They give you more the instant the suspect you are nearing the end of a basket! -The food arrives faster than any crowded restaurant. It almost seems like they telepathically know what you want the instant you walk in the door and start making it before you even order! -The food is well priced and bountiful. As well as delicious. If you love Mexican food, or want a well priced and flawless meal, (or both) head for the Ranchero.

El Ranchero (Gran Ranchero after the fire) is my favorite Parkersburg area restuarant. The food is wonderful and the staff is always friendly even if they aren't very talkative. The few times there have been mixups they are quick to fix it. They are very wonderful with children as well. If children are loud or messy they joke with them and do not get upset about spills. Always recommended by me.
