I stopped by for dinner on a recent work trip. It was insanely empty, which pretty much killed the ambiance. It definitely made it seem its more a college hang out. I had two different beers and both were just okay. It was empty, but service was relatively absent. I ordered buffalo chicken salad I was unsure of the sizes, but went with the small and it was more then enough. I did like that they had some healthier choices with the salad being roasted chicken instead of fried. I did wish their were some more veggies on the salad though, so many go well with ranch and buffalo sauce, seems you could beef this salad up.

Great pizza, great beer, great service! If that sounds good to you then head on down to Clay street and get you some!

Food is pretty good. Original but just average in preparation. Nothing fancy. Brews are pretty good, nothing special but decent. Staff is ok, our wait was really great but all the others were unhelpful and crabby. The dining room is fantastic. Wide open and welcoming. Bar is cool and a long one well organized. Probably have some good late night fun here. Two decks by the trail and the Mon River, open and sunny/starry or covered. Really cool. Play country music too much, not surprising round here but annoying to me. No alcohol until 1p Sunday's WV law.

I like this bar but when I first came in I was sure I would hate it, let me explain. It was a dark winter night with snow falling hard making road conditions horrible. I planed to stop by the brewery on a 5 hour trek from Charlottesville to Pittsburgh however the weather has slowed me down and I got there about 30 minutes before closing time. I was cold and tired came in sat down and was told to get up because they were readying the tables for closing and that I could drink at the bar. I was a bit miffed to get this type of reception. At the bar i was told that the kitchen had closed and my stomach would have to keep growling. Fine I said I'll just have a flight of beer. The bartender handed me a sampler set that I had already been poured prior to me getting to the bar saying that somebody ordered it but I hadn't drink it. Now i was pissed because the beer was warm and had been sitting there for a while and I was not sure if the original purchaser had already sipped on it or not. Redemption came however when the person next to me who was just picking up five stacks of pizza she had ordered offered to give me a couple slices since the kitchen have closed. I gratefully accepted. I thought this was super nice of her and when I was trying to leave and close out the bartender told me that there was no charge., Which was cool. He may have felt bad for just giving me someone else's beer and not really working hard for it but all the same I appreciated the gesture. I feel my experience must be far from typical so it's tough for me to judge. If i am ever back in the area I would like to give it a another try.

Stopped for dinner on a trek from Cleveland to DC. Atmosphere was awesome. Wasn't a fan of the IPA but my fiance loved it. They had several in-house, micro brew options. If I didn't have to drive a few hundred miles the rest of that evening, I would've tried other brews. Had the pulled pork and it was arguably the best I've ever had. The salad was delicious, as well. I wish I asked what dressing was used. The cheesy bread appetizer we could've passed on. It was essentially a greasy, cheese flatbread-pizza without the tomato sauce. We were starving at the time, so whatever. We hope to return to Morgantown to visit more in depth sometime this year. I'm sure we'll return to Mountain State for a meal or a beer or two. The location was really nice also.

Pizza was great, beer not so great. I had the Yardsale pizza and it was fantastic - perfect balance of cheese, basil, proscuitto and black pepper. Thin crust and cooked to perfection. This is definitely a college type hangout with the spacious interior and the watered down beer. If you're into craft breweries and unique beers you'll be disappointed in their selections. I had the Miner's Daughter's Oatmal Stout and while they do mention on their menu it's on the "lighter" side, stouts are known for being a bit heavy and rich in flavor. I wasn't expecting to take a sip and reminice of my Miller Light college days. There wasn't any depth or much flavor to this stout. My husband had the Pale Ale and again no hoppy punch but just flat watered down beers. Probably a good place for college students looking to drink alot but not for folks who are looking for some quality beers.

If I were reviewing only the food I would give this place 4.5 stars. There's a big pizza oven in the middle of the restaurant and they have a deck with a beautiful view. I got a Caesar salad that was amazing (and yes, it is possible to mess it up.) the pizza was a solid 4 stars. I didn't get anything too unique but there were a lot of creative options that looked good. So what was the problem? First, one of the plates given to us for the pizza was obviously dirty. I can't imagine an extremely clean kitchen sending out a dirty plate, and on top of that the waitress didn't seem overly concerned. Keep in mind I just ate a salad, so any questions about the cleanliness of the kitchen is immediately concerning. Then I got a cocktail, which tasted fine but then I noticed some tiny black balls floating in the drink. The waitress had no idea what it was, so we can only hope it was somehow charcoal from a filter, but it really didn't look like it. She took the drink off the bill but after that I was worried the entire night that I would get food poisoning. I didn't, but that's not the point. Another issue is the hostesses are not trained, and obviously so. When asked if there was outside seating she "thought" the deck might be full so she didn't even bother to check or ask anyone. So take what you will from what I have to say. I would be hesitant to return but probably will, but with the expectation that everything better look and be sparkling clean.

I had read the reviews beforehand so I kind of knew that the beers aren't the star here. That definitely held true during my recent visit. I had the amber ale and my boyfriend had the tasting flight. He wasn't impressed with any of the beers he tried. My amber was just okay--not bad, but not memorable at all. Fortunately, the food fared better. I started with a salad with blue cheese, pecans, and cranberries. Everything was fresh and the combination of toppings was tasty. I appreciated that the salad wasn't over-dressed. For the main course, we split the small "flat bread" which was definitely enough for two people to share because the "flat bread" was actually a pretty large thin crust pizza. We had one that was topped with spinach, bacon, tomatoes, and ranch. It was good and clearly baked to order. The patio is a nice spot to sit and people watch, but it was a little bit loud. All-in-all, this is a fine place if you know that the beer will be sub-par.

If you do one thing in Morgantown, GO TO MOUNTAIN STATE BREWING COMPANY. Seriously, this place was super legit. I came on a very enthusiastic recommendation from a friend and I was not disappointed. The restaurant has a pretty rustic vibe, but is a very cool place to chill out as there was acoustic guitar being played when I went to dine. The service was great too so I was very happy with all of that. The highlight of this place though is the food/beer. I got a pesto prosciutto pizza, which was incredible. Paired that with a local brew - Almost Heaven Amber Ale, one of the best beers I've ever had. Will definitely be returning, probably many times, in the future.

I'm either really biased towards microbreweries, or I've had amazing experiences at all the microbreweries I've ever visited. Either way, this place is fantastic. The beer sampler is 100% worth it. You get their 4 house brews + the seasonal special. Their flatbread (aka pizza) is also wonderful. The "Fire on the Mountain" is the most popular, but if you're not a meat-lover nor are into spicy things, I'd steer clear. My favorite pizza was one that wasn't even on the menu: their "Gourmet Special Flatbread" at the time. I got a hummus-based pizza with onions and peppers (and chicken? I forget...), and it was out-of-this-world delicious. So, word to the wise, ask about the "Gourmet Special" before ordering. Service was friendly and fairly prompt, and if you get the chance to eat outside, you'll have a beautiful view of the waterway. Prices are a bit steep, so you'll want to make sure you get a unique pizza to make it worth the cost (i.e. if you just want a cheese pizza, go somewhere else). Overall, highly recommended!

Favorite pizza ever! This place is such a gem. My fiancé really likes there beer, and I am a fan of their sangria. The meat lover's pizza and sweet kickin chicken pizza are my favorites. The spinach dip is also amazing as well as the caprese salad. For dessert, be sure to try the nutella pizza. You won't be sorry. This place is always crowded and for good reason. It is definitely one of the coolest atmospheres in Morgantown.

Let's be real. Morgantown is a college town, which means there isn't a lot of great food options. There's a large number of inexpensive sandwich shops, places that serve wings, chains, etc, but when it comes to food you can rave about, it's slim pickings. Meanwhile, Mountain State Brewing Company gives locals and visitors a reason to cheer. While the place is well known for homemade brews, the food won't disappoint. And, neither will the service, which rivals any place in town, although that's not saying much. For the out of college crowd there's few better places in town to order a drink (or none at all), grab a pizza or good bbq and enjoy a meal. The pizzas here are darn good (for West Virginia standards) and the salads are made with crisp, fresh greens, rather than poor quality packaged iceberg as you'll find at most chains in town, but our favorite was the apple butter pulled chicken, which is awesome! The pulled chicken is some of the best I've tasted, even in my detailed travels through the South. It's juicy, flavorful, almost melts in your mouth and comes with a dipping container of apple butter BBQ which is amazing, literally. Come and try it. You wont regret it.

I had so much fun here! I was visiting my best friend from out of state and she recommended going here because they a) have wonderful, local craft beer, b) the food is good, and c) the place is friendly and inviting. Obviously I couldn't say no! The day I visited it was uncharacteristically warm (late January) but we opted to sit inside by the fire. We ordered a few dishes between the four of us and all started with the housemade bloody marys, on my friend's suggestion. Well, the salad I tried - apples, nuts, cranberries, tangy dressing, and fresh lettuce - was great! The bloody mary was tasty and just spicy enough. One of the servers actually brought over a BM on the house because they were trying it with an antipasta skewere which, I hope, stayed on the menu because it was damn tasty. Also tasty were the pulled pork and the flatbreads - just as delicious if not more so than the salad. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the beers here, because honestly, that's what I was most excited about. I started with the sampler to try out as many as I could. The place does best with its darker beers, quite tasty, but the IPA and blonde that I tried weren't that great. Overall, it was a really fun place to be and I'd absolutely return next time I visit!

Mouth watering fire roasted pizzas, delicious creative sandwich ingredients, fun floats and a friendly atmosphere rates Extremely high. They even gave us a tour of the huge pizza oven. Will return asap and spread the word!

Was on our way to Wheeling WV and Stopped in because of good yelp reviews and loved the pizza! Got the special of the day pizza which was ramp and sausage. Never heard of a ramp till today and the waitress really recommended them. Great view off the deck right on the river. Service was a little off but in their defense they were about to close for a private party. Highly recommend this place if your in the area! Wood fired pizza and salad is what we had and both were excellent!!

I went to Mountain State Brewing Co. with a large group last night. Given that there was something like 12 or more of us we ordered four of the large flatbread pizzas to share. I've been kind of "Eh" on flatbreads in the past but these were good! My half of the table ordered a regular pepperoni and the Cuban. Holy crapkins, the Cuban! It was sooooooo good!!!! Sweet style pulled pork chunks, green pepper, red onion, light BBQ sauce, cheese, super thin, crispy, just blackened crust. Damn. We all REALLY liked it. The pepperoni was good too! Although I didn't partake because I'm not much of a sweets person, my other table mates ordered the S'mores pizza and nearly foodgasmed. The atmosphere was really cool and surprisingly enough not overly loud. They have a cool drink menu and just an all around good vibe that is carried throughout.

  • Karen B.

Limited menu: flatbreads, a few sandwiches and a few salads. That's why it's not quite four stars in my book. Tried the seasonal Porter and loved it. Had a bit of a coffee flavor to it. The MSBLT was a tasty sandwich, made even better with a honey mustard dressing. Go for the lemon herb potato salad as a side. It was just as good as some of the potato salads I've had at BBQ joints throughout the south.

Pizza was great, everything else was ehhhh. I loved the atmosphere of this place until the live band (that I wasn't aware of) started playing. They were so loud I could barely have a conversation with the girl I was with. Also, our waitress did not seem in a good mood and was not very useful. We got a large half white pizza and half of the lemon chicken. Like I said, the food was excellent, but nothing else was.

We went here when we were on a work trip from Denver. This might have been the best pizza I've had. We were all raving about it. They also had a few Belgian Style Ale's for me to choose from, and in my book that's a good place to go. The atmosphere is neat, really chill and fun and the staff was friendly.

    (4)
  • Eric R.

Great pizza and great atmosphere. The pizza is made in a large stone oven which makes the best. Plenty of TVs to watch the big games and big tab;es for big parties.

  • Nate G.

Their Morgantown location is in a good spot on the river. Awesome deck in summer. Atmosphere is great and flatbreads are pretty tastes. The beer is pretty good too. Nothing beats pizza and beer at a good spot! Service was terribly slow however...literally half hour or so between visits from our waitress.

This is a great bar and restaurant! There is a huge brick oven inside and their pizza is awesome with lots of specialty pizza options. The atmosphere inside is more upscale with a rustic feel. I personally get hillbilly punch every time I go there because I am not a big beer drinker, so there are options for everyone. There is also an outside patio with fans, which is very nice in the summertime. I chose to bring my family here after my graduation. The service was great and it is a perfect place to bring the family.

Huge restaurant with a fire oven in the center, patio, and upstairs deck. Service is friendly and food is really good. The side salads are big and they give you the option of making any of their specialty salads into a side one. The one with walnuts and dried cranberries is good. The buffalo chicken salad was the best. We also ordered the pizza with pepperoni, sausage, and bell peppers. It was so crispy and delicious. The crust is sooo good. It's a spicy pizza but had a hint of sweetness in the sauce.

Stopped in Morgantown on the way to PA for a work trip. We wanted some pizza so chose to come here. The Jalapeño Infused Margarita was great. The BBQ pizza was delicious and had just the right amount of spice. I would definitely recommend this stop in the mountains.

Moriarty's Yard Sale flatbread was awesome! Paired wonderfully with the Apple pie moonshine. Great atmosphere. Very casual. Smells like a campfire. Love it!

When in Morgantown a few weeks ago, I was eager to try some local beer. My fiancé suggested Mountain State Brewing Co. based on her coworker's recommendation. We both ordered the beer sampler, a salad, and a couple small flatbread pizzas. Overall, I was more impressed with the food than the beer, which is the opposite of what I expect at a brewery. The beer was much more like a homebrew in quality... skip it.

Read the favorable reviews so I had high expectations. They did not disappoint! Their meat lovers flatbread pizza was exceptionally tasty. Fast and friendly staff. Best new restaurant find in a while. (Too bad it's so far away from home.)

The food is great! We always go here whenever we have an employee leaving. Their pizza is amazing and have great sandwiches. They are a little on the pricey side though.

  • Kimberly T.

The pizza was good but not great. We had the Margherita. I don't think good pizza has to have a ton of toppings. The tomatoes and basil were fresh but bland. I wish I had ordered a pizza with more toppings or added some to this Margherita. My husband had the beer sampler and his favorite was the IPA. While it was good I wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

Great dinner with our family! We were just traveling through and found them on Yelp. Loved the hummus and the flat bread pizza was amazing!!

They keep their root beer in a pitcher with ice cubes so it gets watery. Should be cooled in a refrigerator with no ice. Our first glass tasted watered down, then the next was better because it hadn't sat in the waitresses pitcher as long.

My family and I had spent the day down at Pickett's Fort State Park about 10 miles down the road and decided to stop in for lunch at roughly 2pm on a Saturday. The atmosphere is a little on the wood cabin side of things with several HDTV's dispersed indoors. With two small ones (kindergartener and toddler) in tow, we were sent off to a "kid's section." There were about six tables occupied out of about 40. We were in a booth section, butted up against another family of 6; containing a little one. My wife and I tried a couple of their brews: the seasonal cranberry wheat and I had the Almost Heaven's Ale (something like that). My wife enjoyed the cranberry wheat as she ordered a second and I tried their "guest beers" list with a white beer. The Heaven's ale definitely was as advertised with its caramel aftertaste. It was a little too strong for me and actually tasted like honey after awhile. My wife tried it without me telling her about the aftertaste. She said "that's pretty good!" hesitated and then said "yech, is that honey?" We had Fire on the Mountain pizza and Bruscetta. Both were really good. Really good. We got a large and finished the rest at the end of the night. Our kids had hot dogs. They have a very small kids menu: chicken nuggets, hot dog, cheese pizza and a pepperoni pizza. Both kids jumped at hot dogs. They came with a side of oranges in a pre-packaged Dole cup. The hot dogs looked like the ones you get at an MLB stadium on "dollar dog days." Kids didn't mind. Once my kids got entirely too rowdy, we wandered out to the back patio by the trail and the river. It was very nice and peaceful back there and probably the best seats in the house. However, I don't remember seeing a TV so if you're interested in watching sports, you might want to be inside. The staff was super-friendly and never hesitated to help. There were no slow points during our meal and no wondering is we were forgotten about. I will definitely return and thoroughly enjoyed this place. I recommend it to anyone looking for a good pizza and a couple average beers.

I love Mountainstate! They have great salads and pizza! The service and atmosphere is always very relaxed and has a great vibe. This has been one of the best new establishments in Morgantown. I am a fan! A great place to visit if you are in Morgantown!

Absolutely the best food, servers, and atmosphere I've found so far around morgantown area. I ordered hummus and pita, spinach artichoke dip with chips, apple butter pulled bbq chicken sandwich. It all came out well before I finished sampling the craft beer.

Everytime I am in Morgantown I always end up here. Their dark lager is delicious and the wood fired pizza is wonderful. It is cavernous and noisy and there is usually a wait, but it is worth it.

  • Eric S.

I really like this place for the pizza and beer and atmosphere. The rest of their food is honestly not that great. Had a sandwich one day that was terrible so I stick to their "flatbreads". Not sure why they use the gimmicky name Flatbread when it's Pizza! Nothing to be ashamed. Pizza is very expensive. Lots of interesting specialty pizzas. Randy Miller special is very good if you like spicy food. Beer is decent too although it's not as good as the brewpub and definately not as good as Chestnut Brewing.

Okay, as a seasoned road warrior (my family drives halfway across the country a couple of times a year), I've relied on yelp to help me get off the highway and into some good, local food. And yelpers have not disappointed, most of the time. I've rarely returned the favor to all the yelpers out there by writing reviews of my own. But this place has inspired me to do so. I was looking for fresh, local, decent food in Morgantown for the umpteenth time and this place sounded reasonable. It was. Reasonable. The pizza was fine, tasty even. But, if you're looking for something nourishing and fresh, this is not the place. The salad greens were wilted and brown and the beer was flat. The. Beer. Was. Flat. One should be able to walk into a local brewpub in a college town (I know: I live in one) and find fresh food and tasty beer. I'm willing to accept that this was an off night but it pains me to say that the staff did not fill me with confidence that they knew things were amiss. I will keep looking for fresh, well-prepared food in this town but, yet again, on this trip, I didn't find it.

Consistently good food and always friendly service. We've only had pizza, and a sandwich or two in terms of the entrees, but everything has ranged from acceptable to incredibly good. The hillbilly caviar is a fantastic appetizer, the beer selection is strong, and the sangria is wonderful.

While on a college visit for my daughter we stopped here. I always seek out local beer when traveling. The delightful receptionist at the Travel Information booth told us they had great pizza too. I had the beer sampler. I liked all the beers and then ordered my favorite. I tend to like Belgian strong ales so I'm not sure I would put the beer into my all time favorite list but I really enjoyed them. They were well made and the Amber Ale was very very good. I also tried the summer seasonal which is what I ended up ordering. The atmosphere was also quite nice. We sat outside with a river view. We never felt rushed and the waitress was very nice. The pizza arrived nice and hot. It was delicious. When I return I will definitely stop here again. It was a very enjoyable experience.

Mountain State Brewing Company is an incredibly impressive West Virginia business that has come through for my staff and me time and time again. A big thank you to the folks at Mountain State Brewing Company for making the trip to Washington D.C. to provide beverages for our "Hollow" documentary reception and viewing. As always, your brew was loved by all who attended. Thanks for being there. -Joe Manchin

Food, service & location were great. Need to do more decorating to make for a better dining experience. It is currently very obvious that this is a metal building as the entrance & ceiling clearly show. Walls have been covered with pine boards to help soften the experience. Keep going in this direction with the rest of your building & the ambiance will draw people back to the great food.

Average beer at and average price. Food is over priced. 21 bucks for a "flatbread" (AKA pizza)?! Me thinks not. "Large" salad was smallish, 90% lettuce, the rest was composed of stale croutons, onion (not red) and a few small pieces of green pepper. NO tomatoes, cukes, etc. Pathetic. Ordered the ruben. I am used to rubens being big and sloppy and delicious. This one was small, dry and not much taste. 3 beers, 1 salad, 1 ruben = $25.00 I won't be back except maybe for a beer on the nice double-decker deck.

without a doubt the best place in town. I take my family here every time they come in for a visit and it just never gets old. My favorite pizza is the Margherita.... their Caesar salad is oddly amazing.... and you've gotta try their Nutella smores flat bread for dessert!! Their homemade brews aren't too shabby, and service is always great. Even better... they allow dogs on the outside patio in the summer. I was happy to enjoy a nice lunch with my puppy by my side :)

  • Amelia H.

This place has the best and most creative wood fired pizza! It is delicious!!! My favorite is the Northcamp, which has an Alfredo sauce base and features spinach, grilled chicken, and dried cranberries. Soooo good... Beers are good too, some of the best craft brews I have had. If you want to have a good time, order the Hillbilly Punch! Best cocktail ever! Only complaints are that the place is dirty sometimes and the service isn't the best, and it can get very busy! But go try it, you will love it!

One of the Morgantown places I miss dearly. Good beer, good pizza, good atmosphere. I had many a special occasion here. I really enjoy the mushroom pizza, and the cranberry chicken pizza, but without the chicken. =) The beer also speaks for itself.

Started out with the sampler, great way to down select to a good beer. I finished off with the Stout. Love the place, they have a wood fired pizza oven that kept the place nice & warm. I ate Cheddar & Broccoli soup and hummus platter. Soup was very good, hummus was so, so. Go there, you will find a beer that you like, and food that hits the spot. Ok, so here is what I drank: Cold Trail Ale, good but not overly flavorful. Almost Heaven Amber Ale, good but not overly flavorful. Seneca Indian Pale Ale, much more hoppy, bitter - I guess I like this less. Miner's Daughter Oatmeal Stout, good full rich flavor.

Huge place with brick oven in the center. Good vibe, decent music. Beer selection was their home brew. Tried the India Pale Ale and the Amber. The pale ale was too hoppy for me ( bitter). Pizza was so so. The crust was great but the ingredients were fairly bland. Salad was great! Would go back for that.

I went there for lunch with my family. Very open layout. The huge brick pizza oven was in the middle of the restaurant for all to see. We came in shortly after they opened and the kids got to see them adding wood to the oven. Exciting for the kids. The rest of the kitchen is pretty open also. Interesting to watch the action. Kids's Cheese Pizza for each kid. Huge for a kid's pizza. Tasty sauce and nice crust. I ordered The Italian sandwich. Very tasty sandwich. I have to admit that I was expecting a much larger sandwich than I got. The size of the sandwich was disappointing but the flavor was very good. I found myself wanting the sandwich again when it was time for dinner. I was also disappointed that the chips were from a little bag. Store bought chips?!?! Really? And they were not very good. Would really liked to see some home-made, fresh cut french fries or even home-made potato chips. They really missed the ball on this. The service was good and bad at the same time. Servers was friendly but she didn't seem to be around often enough. A few more check ins from her would have been nice. I felt that I had to ration my home-made root beer so I wouldn't run out while I was eating. It wasn't just our server that was missing. I noticed the table next to us had to wait for a long time to get his check. He was actually standing next to his table to get someone's attention. I saw 3 employees walk by his area without acknowledging him. His wife and child had left and he was waiting for way too long for someone to help him. Overall, I liked the food but the service needs some work. I would go back despite my complaints.

We came here for a late lunch/early dinner. The service was great and we got seated on their pretty patio. The food was amazing and their oatmeal beer stout was delicious. I normally don't enjoy drinking beer, but this beer had great flavor! My boyfriend sampled their beer, and they were all very good. The pizza was delicious! The firehouse pizza was so awesome. That extra sauce is spicy but great! I got the lemon pepper chicken pizza. So good! Great place to grab some beers and eat pizza.

  • Alvin J.

Honestly I was expecting more from the pizza. I really did care for the one I had, the sweet kick'in chicken. I does have an overall nice atmosphere and is family friendly. Also the staff were great, but I just wasn't a fan of the food I had. However, I won't totally rule this place out yet. I'll have to return and try a different type of pizza. Maybe I'll try the buffalo chicken, it has been highly recommended by others.

Had lunch here on a Saturday afternoon. Summer salad was yummy; lots of almonds! Margarita flatbread was delicious. Friend had the Boar's Nest sandwich (pulled pork) and he loved it. The beer sampler was very generous and only $5! Took home a growler of Almost Heaven Amber Ale. Service was great. Server explained portions and types of flatbread well and offered suggestions. Cool outdoor space that overlooks waterfront trail. You should go!

Best pizza I've had in WV so far. The texture had a perfect chew and crispiness. Yeah it's a little pricey, but felt the pizza here was better than pies & pints.

I left there with mixed emotions. First the good... The pizza was awesome! We had 3 different pizzas and they were all great... Wood fired flatbread style. We got the hummus plate, and while not the best I have ever has, it was good. (I wish that they would have had some olives and veggies with the plate. The beer is by far the best is Morgantown!! I had the sampler and all the beers were really solid and tasted perfectly to style. I wish that they offered more than just 4 beers, it would be nice if there were a few more options. Now the bad... The service! They wait staff was very nice, but overall the service was terribly slow. It was not that busy of a lunch service but it took a host over 10 minutes to seat us. Once we were seated it was almost another 10 mins before someone came to take out drink orders. When she did we also put in an order of hummus and an kids order of chicken nuggets...our drinks came and refilled and the lunch salads came out, but our appetizer only arrived about 2 minutes before our pizzas. And we had put the chicken nuggets order in with the drinks, hopeing to get them for our kid before the pizzas, but they came out with the pizzas. While we are on the topic of they nuggets, I will say one thing...this isn't really bad just a surprise, for a place that has such fresh food, pizzas, apps, etc...the fact that the nuggets were Tyson frozen nuggets was kind of a turn off.... So one point about the service. I don't think it was the waitress's fault, i think that for the people that were there they were under staffed. The atmosphere was nice, but the music was a bit loud..the selection of music was good, but a tad bit loud. So...it would have been 5 stars...but the service was way under par. The beer and the food were great and I would absolutely go back and just pray that the service would be better!!

The pizza was good, but nothing extraordinary. The space was large and open and would probably be ready for some hoppin' nightlife. However, we found ourselves stopping by at lunch time on a weekday and discovered there to be plenty of open seating and a relatively short wait until the food arrived. The service was adequate, but not inviting.

Stopped on a Sunday afternoon to grab lunch with an old friend. The service was great. We started off with the spinach dip, which was awesome and had a bit of spice to it! They make their own root beer and it is tasty, free refills, too! Shared the Moriarty Yard Sale flatbread/pizza with the husband and it was so delicious--pricey yes, but so good. They also do team bingo on Sunday afternoons so we played a few rounds of that and it was actually a lot of fun--though I was really skeptical at first. We finished it off with their banana pudding--a great final note. LOVE this place!

Beer is average ... We tasted three different types. The stout was too light, the IPA not hoppy enough. Pizza (aka flat bread) decent. Overall enjoyable watching the WVU game on the TV and having great company. Will be back, hopefully the beer will improve.

We were offered an opportunity to try out the Brewery again so I gave it a shot...getting better! Ordered a pizza with spinach, chicken, pesto etc and it was very good. I had a red sangria and it's still not as good as it used to be, tastes too much like OJ and sprite? Overall an improvement, thank you!!

Yes, the wait was at times long. But seriously, we came here to relax and chill out--and were no disappointed! The staff put up with my uppity prodding every other minute for my next drink, my next yummy for my tummy. Serious kudos to them! After frosty libation and delectable nourishment, down-to-earth banter and other such dialog with the bartenders, we were glad a 10 minute pizza took more time to prepare in the end. We certainly took our time savoring the offerings--so thank you! The layout was social but spacious, staff were upbeat and even the ugly folk (like me!) looked better for it! Will definitely go hang out there again when next in Mo'town!

I've been to Mountain State twice now and each time I leave more disappointed than the last. This past weekend's trip will surely be my last. Mountain State features entirely average pizza, even more so when it comes to the beer. My amber ale was WARM and FLAT! My IPA was BORING! Of their four beers, the oatmeal stout stands out, but it certainly leaves something to be desired. As far as the Morgantown craft beer scene stands, Mountain State is slowly sinking to the bottom. You cannot call yourself a "brewing company" and serve such monotonous, poorly served suds. The pizzas are also pretentiously referred to as "flatbreads," when they are nothing more than a pizza. Get it together MSBC!

warm. warehouse vibe. big wood burning pizza igloo. the pizza was good and thin and the toppings were good. but the sauce was a little sweet and could've been more hearty. other people at the table got sandwiches (pork) and they looked good to me - they also said they were yummy - but this is only my review - so they should mind their own opinions and stop interjecting into my review! :-0 i'd try it again

We were looking for a light lunch so my wife and I ordered a summer salad and shared a small flat bread margherita pizza. The salad was outstanding. The pizza was very good but not as crispy as you would think a brick oven pizza would be. In addition my wife ordered the hillbilly punch which was excellent and reminded us of the Caribbean. Overall really nice and cozy atmosphere and wish we could go back to try some of their homemade brews.

I had REALLY high expectations for this place, so it was not like it was BAD, it just wasn't UP there where I thought it'd be... We stopped in here as we made our way back to our hotel and I was thinking we'd have a dessert. The s'mores flatbread sounded AMAZING so that's what we ordered...hubs had a water and I had the 'homemade' rootbeer. Well, then...we waited.........and waited.....got the rootbeer (it was in a plastic glass with ICE? weird)...then waited... Server came up and said that the cook 'messed up' the flatbread and she didn't want to serve us a non-yummy looking dish...that was nice of her...but I was still hungry....and waiting... waiting...waiting...30 minutes...waiting...35 minutes. It finally came out it was good, but not 35 minutes good, to be honest. By that time, the rootbeer was sooo watery I might as well have ordered water.

We were told to visit this place by the manager at the hotel we stayed at. They are known for their food, he said. Well, we were disappointed. They only have pizza and sandwiches. And they're supposed to be fire-grilled but the turkey pesto sandwich I had was stone cold. And we only got a small bag of plain chips to go with it. I guess if you LOVE pizza you will find something to eat. And the beer was just ok. I had their Ale on tap and it was tasteless. Also if your a micro brewery shouldn't you have more than 4 beers to choose from? Service was ok, I mean he brought our food to us so, you know, that's about all we got from him. We won't go back.

Great place to grab a bite in Morgantown. They have a deck to sit out on when its nice out. Staff is very friendly. Nice crowd. I recommend the buffalo chicken pizza. And their salads are delicious, too. Try the summer salad or the blue ridge.

Nice thin crust pizza with many different flavor options. I prefer to make my own combo. I love that they added the personal size pizza as an option. The sandwiches are also great. They don't make them after 4PM on the weekends though! The new-ish 2 tier deck is great! They have speakers out there, and you can sit on top for a nice view of the Mon or on the ground level for some shade.

Expensive for pizza but specialty toppings and brick fired oven make it well worth it. Atmosphere is homey and warm. Try the sangria if you like that kind of thing. If not, it's much more popular for the brews. Don't miss out on the Nutella pizza for dessert.

Love the look and the feel of the place and everyone was so friendly - but it was weird: I came in at 10 PM on a Friday night and the place was shutting down! What's up with that? Is it just that I'm used to big city schedules? I guess it seemed surprising since there are several other places in town that stay open much later. The beer was good, if not world-class. Definitely the best local beer I had in Morgantown. I'd come back if the hours were later, but sadly, there's probably not going to be a chance.

Simply amazing pies and some really good sandwiches. Have not had pizza from every place in Morgantown but cannot imagine anything coming close, it's in a league of its own.

Great beers and wood fired pizza. Huge place with a large wood fired dome oven near the back, great atmosphere and the bartender was knowledgable about beer styles and we talked beer and such for a while. More seasonal beers being brewed and a Cranberry Hefeweizen was mentioned for summer.

Good pizza and service. Was surprisingly short wait for the food considering how busy they were on a Saturday night.

Loved the dog-friendly outdoor seating located right along the river walk! We arrived too late to enjoy the gourmet pizza we had read about - kitchen closes rather early - but friendly staff set us up with a couple cold stouts which were delicious. The banana pudding paired well with the Miner's Daughter Oatmeal Stout.

Bruschetta. Go ahead and order it. Right now. While you're waiting, I can tell you that the flatbreads here are awesome, as are all the brews. Having been to one of their other restaurants in McHenry, Md, I'm hoping this Mountain State expands their menu to include the infamous burritos etc. of the other branches. This restaurant seems to appear exactly as you'd like it to: Local, Open (you can see the kitchen from your table) and full of satisfied customers. I can't say a single bad thing about this restaurant.

This location had a very nice atmosphere, nice people, and delicious pizza. The pizza is very very large so, order small.

While the pizza and the atmosphere was good, the kitchen's slowness ruined things for us. We waited over an hour for our pizza to arrive after ordering. Asked to speak to the manager. She arrived quickly, we explained the situation, she checked on the pizza, and it arrived shortly after. Would have expected an offer of a free beer, or something discounted off the bill, but nothing other than an apology. Won't be returning.

A welcome addition - casual, fun, and arguably the nicest interior in Morgantown. They've done a great job. The beer is fine though nothing spectacular. We've been a few times, and the food and service are uneven - sometimes served hot, others cold. I'd say the pizza is pretty greasy, considering that they use a wood-burning oven. This one will definitely go in the rotation, and I hope that the shortcomings will be ironed out with time.

What a pleasant surprise! All three of the pizzas we've tried on three different visits were amazing--on the Moutain, The Cuban, and the Moriarty Yardsale--but the one thing we get every single time we go in is the s'more pizza. Best. Dessert. Ever. Hand-tossed crispy crust with nutella (!) and marshmallows, baked in wood-fired oven. The marshmallows get crispy like at a campfire. Amazing. The beer is also pretty good, but I was glad to see on my last visit that they expanded their options past their own brews (including my personal favorite, Smithwick's). It is a little pricey, but so worth it.

Overall, pretty good. Nice interior...quite comfortable with a nice looking bar area. Beer is good...if you like brew pub beer. Went for lunch and the only thing available as a main dish was pizza. Perhaps sandwiches are being formulated as a future menu item. Let's hope so. Anyway, the pizza wasn't bad...not great. A bit overpriced, though. I will definitely head back and could see a nice session being had in the comfortable digs. Check it out!

Really really good beer. If you like dark oatmeal stouts, get the Miner's Daughter. The flat bread pizza is good, too, but I've had better. We got the Fire on the Mountain pizza. We couldn't taste the chipotle, but it did have a kick. It did have fresh ingredients and great smoke mozzarella. The service was slow, but the friendly. It did have a relaxed atmosphere, and a lively vibe with a rustic, mountain cabin feel. It wasn't too crowded on St. Paddy's day, but that may be due to the location and for the fact that has just recently opened.
