I don't think I was the beneficiary of the full Mario's experience having gone there for lunch on a weekday after school had let out, so I'll be sure to give it another go round the next time I'm in Morgantown (football season!). Everyone is spot on about the history, it's literally all over the walls, dating as far back to the 1960's from what I could find. That is what makes this place a classic. The food on the other hand, was A-OK. A little bland, no special spices or seasonings on my sandwich, but I will say that the fries were some of the best I've had. Looking forward to giving this one another go round!

A staple of Morgantown just on the outskirts of campus. I spent many of my days while attending WVU at this fine establishment. I like to call it the "best-kept upperclassmen secret" in MoTown. Seems like it's a right of passage in discovering this place. Mostly locals and Jrs and Srs seem to frequent it (or at least that was the case when I was there 2004-2009), which makes it even better--free from the amateurs with fake IDs that can sometime clutter High Street (like I wasn't one of these also in my first 2 years in MoTown). Any time I make it back to Morgantown since graduating, I have to hit up this staple, read my friends and I's past notes and get all nostalgic (and drunk). Let's Gooo Mountaineers!

A Morgantown landmark. The walls are decorated full of memorabilia spanning generations. The best poured Beer in Morgantown. At Mario's the draft is a craft perfected over the years. Do not mistake this place for what it is not. This not a place you will remember for their food but no beer draft will be good enough after having one Mario's.

One of my favorite places in Morgantown. This neighborhood fixture has been open for years, and has posterboard with clients' writing taped to the walls to prove it. Bar food is average, but the draft beer is cold, the atmosphere is fantastic, and the servers are friendly. Plus, the beer is served in generous fishbowl glasses.

This laid back drinking establishment is a local neighborhood gem hidden away from the other bars in Morgantown. The walls are filled with notes from the past celebrating all sorts of (drinking and other) feats. We saw many yellowed notes dating back to the 1970's taped up on the walls when trying to find the oldest notes. This place is a college bar with lots of character and charm without an attitude. If you are expecting a high end place with nice finishes and expensive frou frou beers, this place will not appeal to you. I am an Asian male and I need to tell you that walking into a bar in some parts of WV is sometimes uncomfortable (mostly in rural WV). However, Mario's Fish Bowl definitely does not give off that type of vibe. The people there, the times I have been there, were very friendly and open. The clientele was also varied. Its not just young college age kids there but also older folks who are coming in for a beer or a bite to eat. Remember that show Cheers? Well this place is exactly like that bar except its totally different. Don't understand? Go to Mario's to experience it for yourself.

This is probably my favorite bar. Ever. I went to school at WVU, and never fully appreciated this place (even for food) until my last year. Now just about everytime I'm in town, I gotta go back. Beer is cheap and cold. Not a lot of variety, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I always get a Bud Light red eye, mostly because this place is kinda a dive, and I feel like I should drink red eyes at dive bars. But, the waitresses know exactly the right proportions of tomato juice, and they are perfect every time. The food is also awesome. I'm not a fan of wings, but the hubs is, and he says they have the best wings in Morgantown. Get them with the buffalo and garlic sauce mixed. Their potato chips are homemade and delicious. I always seem to get the Baked Italian sub because it is so good, I'm afraid to stray. I have also gotten the ruben and it's REALLY freakin' good, but doesn't beat out the Baked Italian. I have a couple signs on the wall from my college days. If you are in there for a few hours and have ordered plenty of beers and your waitress is in a good mood, ask for a piece of cardboard and a marker to leave a sign of your own. Good luck getting a seat in here on home football game weekends. I've been in there many of times and just stood and enjoyed my beer. They used to have the best juke box selection ever, but I'm told it's been replaced. Great ambience and a fascinating history.

Rich in history and awards, Mario's Fishbowl sits on top of the hill between WVU's main down campus and neighboring area of Sabraton. The Fishbowl has been in existence since 1949. Three couples have been lucky enough to call themselves owner. The most famous owners are the legendary Mario and Rose Spina; their picture sits above the bar. Story goes that upon entering Mario's, Rose would take your car keys and only give them back at the end of your stay if she felt you were okay to drive home. If not, she would hold on to your keys until the following day. This was the location of my parent's very first date! Classy, Dad. However, having been a dutiful customer to Mario's during my decade in Morgantown and now as a visitor, I find it to be the best place my parents could have had their first day. I feel a connection to the younger version of them when sitting in the small venue. Today, Mario's is much the same as it was in Rose and Mario's days. The walls are still decorated with homemade record breakers recorded on paper from receipts, boxes, cardboard. ect- from who traveled the furthest to drink a fishbowl to being able to eat 17 hot dogs in 12 minutes. The fishbowls of beer (multiple draft selections are available) are still available along with a great menu. Individuals rave about the hot dogs, wings, and fish sandwiches. They also offer catering both on and off site through Crosley's which sits next door to The Fishbowl. The Fishbowl hosts three big screen TVs that are constantly tuned into college and pro sports. The Juke Box is awesome! You can't beat $4.50 for a fishbowl of New Castle either! It's always at treat to go to The Fishbowl. I've never had anything but a memorable experience and time there! If you are in the area it is a must go to!

My wife grew up in Morgantown and when we come watch WVU games we always seem to stop here and I am glad that we do. This place has history, literally written on the walls. The beers are served in a bowl looking glass, are pretty cheap and the food is good too. Bonus: Crowd usually cheers when people leave, and "boo" when people leave.

Went to visit my brother and watch him graduate from college. He took me out for a night on the town and this was our first stop. What a way to start the night! As soon as I found out they had warm Guiness I was in love. I can't say I would ever make the mistake of starting with that again however, it was, quite literally, a meal. I was so so full after drinking that dang fishbowl of warm Guiness but it tasted soooo good.

This place is an absolute landmark. Yes, it's a little divey but it's history! The food is delicious fried-fare and the alcohol is served in fishbowls. I love coming here with my spouse to hear his stories from when he'd go here while in college and now I love it too. I suggest anything fried. And bring your reading glasses, the history is literally written all over the walls.

After a weekend of chain food and little league ball games, Fishbowl was just what we needed. Although a little hard to find and the looks can be a bit unnerving at first, the food and the service was 1st class!

A true Morgantown staple. Who didn't come here on Tuesday nights for mug nights and a dozen wings for some absurdly cheap price! I sure did! The wings are amazing, cowboy ranch is the way to go. They were recently on a buzzfeed article about best wings in the country, and I totally agree. This place is just a classic where mountaineers go for some brews and good bar food.

The food here is so overpriced. I got a MEASLY-sized hamburger and handful of fries and that cost me 10 bucks (not including tip). The burger itself was alright but I was shocked at how little they give you. The beer selection was also nothing special. The interior is cool though and the walls are plastered in notes penned by customers which were interesting to read. But the thing that pissed me off even more was that I stopped back in a few hours after leaving ( I was staying at a friends house in the neighborhood) and very politely asked if I could just get change for a 20. I was informed by the brunette waitress that they simply don't make change for people. ..Well..why the f*** not?! What's the big god damn deal about making change for a f***in 20?! Especially for someone who frequented the restauraunt only mere hours prior. People seem to love this place but I say skip it. I had a much better dining experience at mountain state brewing company on Clay St.

Riding through town and she turns her bike into the lot, I'm thinking something is wrong...she says she wants to go into a place that has a neon "BEER" sign over the door...can't argue with that...It was an A + experience for us.It was clean, quiet and the staff was very friendly. Drinks were always kept filled. The food was in good sized portions and reasonably priced. The food was absolutely DELICIOUS! Kudos to the cook! I wonder if they will deliver to CT?

A morgantown classic spot! Marios is always a good time, especially during the time their kitchen is open! Service is friendly. Bartenders are attentive as they should be because it is a smaller venue. The decor on the inside amplifies how popular the restaurant is, as it is filled with notes of people who travelled far to have a fishbowl and a burger. Burgers are delicious, one of my favorite in town, juicy and savory slab of meat done right! The fries are really good, and I have heard good things about the paninis they make as well. For a small little morgantown restaurant, fishbowl gets 5 stars for keeping it simple for so many years- but doing it right.

I've been coming ever since I was old enough to flash a fake ID. I'd like to say that I have Mario's food, but seriously, the only thing I can remember ever eating her was a pickle for some weird pickle challenge that ended up being an epic pickle failure on my part. No, the draw here has always been ice cold beer served in the Mario's fishbowl. Now, back in the day these schooners were quite the novelty, but today many bars carry them. It is nice to see that Mario's charm isn't just about its glassware, but the history that is contained in its walls and patrons' smiles. It is Morgantown bar that is iconic and should be a stop on every orientation your. Go Mountaineers!!!

My wife stopped there tonight after work to being home a late dinner. It was busy and she didn't mind the wait. We've eaten at the place many times and we've enjoyed the food. She brought wings home and I ordered the baked Italian and paid extra to get he onion rings. While my wife's wings were excellent as always some slacker in the kitchen made my a crappy sub and literally put TWO small onion rings in the box. We paid an extra 2 dollars for two small onions rings and the sub was mushy from sitting. I give 4 stars instead of 2 because when I called the manager he apologized and made it right with a gift certificate for a free dinner. He said he would deal with the slacker.

May appear to be a little bit of a divebar, but don't let it fool you. This place has awesome food and is an awesome time. I highly, highly!, recommend the Cowboy Ranch wings. I have never been dissapointed by them. I know friends who put the cowboy ranch sauce on their fries, burgers, and subs. And those aren't the only ones that are good by any means. Usually I can't give 5 star ratings when Ive only had certain meals, like wings, but everyone says they like everything they try on the menu. Give it a try, I doubt you'll be dissapointed

THE Morgantown experience! Food is good, standard bar food. Their Italian sub is amazing and their fries are excellent! Among many visits, came here for my birthday. The local crowd cheers when you enter and boo as you leave. I was treated to a raucous chorus of Happy Birthday! Used to have the best jukebox in Motown, now one of those connected to the internet. :( The walls are papered with notes of drinkers the came before- make sure to leave your mark! My parents drank here in the 70's as do I. The Fishbowls are full of icy cold frosty beer, the food fried and delicious, and the atmosphere is the essence of Morgantown!!! To be a jukebox hero, play Country Roads, Wagon Wheel, or Dixieland Delight!!!! Cheers, beers, and Mountaineers!!!!

I'm an out of towner and thus not privy to a lot of the tradition. The food was good--it's all like grilled ham and cheese and such. You're not going here for award winning cuisine, but for decent cheap bar food. Actually, you should be coming here for beer & ambience. The beer was cheap and cold and served in large schooners. But this bar was fun and divey. People have left notes all over the walls and it was fun to read. Wait you get beer & a sandwich and you're giving me something to read? The best of all combos.

This place has awesome food. Got the Philly steak and cheese and my boyfriend got the Reuben. Both had great flavor! The fries and coleslaw were both good too! Best place to grab lunch in Morgantown!

It's been a while since I've been there ever since graduating WVU a few years ago. But this was a place that was a little separated from the downtown area.... and if you knew about it, you kept on going back. It's a real dive, but it's got one of the more unique interiors I've ever seen. There's all kinds of things all over the walls. Order the wings... and of course.. a fishbowl of Labatts

Greasy food and fishbowl sized (a pint) beers. What more is there to say? Love this place. You can sit outside in the spring and summer, plus they have a basketball court you can sharpen up your Lebron skills on. Score.
