Farm to table BBQ with great service. I've been to the atomic grill well over 15 times and wouldn't be surprised if I make it back another 15 times. The decor is unique and the food is phenomenal! The atomic grill also offers food to go. I've more than once stopped in to grab dinner when in a pinch for time. Make sure to call ahead if you're in a hurry because the place does get packed due to it being so dang tasty!

The atmosphere and service were very good. The food was not. My husband had the brisket platter and found it to be fatty and tough. He nor my son were fans of the Carolina sauce. I had the BLT salad. The fried green tomatoes were okay. The smoked bacon was not my cup of tea and I love bacon. Just didn't enjoy the flavor. I liked the roasted tomato vinaigrette a lot. My son had the bacon cheeseburger and fries and he liked it. I don't think we'll be back but we're glad we tried it. Family-friendly.

Service: polite, efficient, a little brusque but it was busy Food: Okay. City-level prices are way out of line with basic BBQ fare. The brisket was good; the pulled pork was impossibly dry. Cole slaw was commercial and the greens were WAY overspiced. Very nice beer and wine selection. Atmosphere: This place is trying so hard to be trendy that it kinda fails. Trappist ales next to Pabst Blue Ribbon on the slate? Really? Menus on old album covers was a nice touch, but the rest of the decor was for someone other than me.

Different environment and amazing food!!! Come hungry and leave STUFFED! Started off with wings for the table and... They left me speechless! The pulled pork was so good! Mom said the buttered carrots were "Devine." They serve locally made beers, and I guess the meat is local as well!

We had a family dinner here for my sisters birthday and it was a great dinner and cool atmosphere. Our waiter was awesome (ahh forget his name!) and really knew his stuff. The food was delicious and I especially recommend the chicken wings. They were to die for! They were whole chicken wings that came plain with their signature bbq sauce to dip in- amazing! We came around 4 on a Saturday and got seated right away but it was getting pretty busy as we were leaving.. Seems to be a pretty popular place! Definitely worth a try!

Really delicious bbq! Especially the beef brisket. It was so tender and juicy. I had the brisket in the White Lightning sandwich (a hoagie with lettuce, tomato, onions, and white bbq sauce). It was simple, but amazing! It comes with fries, but you can change it to Cajun fries or garlic Parmesan fries, or to another side for extra cost. Everyone seemed to love the Don Ho burger and the ribs. The burger had grilled pineapple, gorgonzola cheese, and Hawaiian sauce. The full rack of ribs is $30 and is enough to share with another person. It comes with fries and beans. Service was great. We had a group of eight and we kept making change requests and folks sharing dishes, but our server was wonderful and chill about it. It's a neat little restaurant. It's decorated with pictures of tattoos. Even most of their servers are tatted up. If you're ever in Morgantown, stop by here for some awesome food!

Great lunch at Atomic Grill today. The wife's pulled pork sandwich with Carolina BBQ sauce was fantastic and a surprisingly authentic find in Morgantown. My chicken bacon ranch sandwich was juicy and delicious with excellent smoked bacon. The second best part was my ability to take half of it home because it was so darned big! Great value for delicious and creative sandwiches, friendly service and a cool atmosphere. My 13 month old daughter particularly loved the chocolate mousse which was topped with house made whipped cream. Fantastic! Will definitely eat here again.

I had the fried green tomato po boy. It tasted good, but seemed to be lacking something. Maybe a little kick of spice. I also tried the Krispy Kreme bread pudding. It seemed also to be lacking something like spice. Food was generally good. I would come again and try something different. The service was friendly and fast although we are here in the middle of the afternoon.

Atomic Grill is AWESOME! Get the bruschetta and request Chett as your waiter! So attentive and friendly, made me laugh a few times! He asked "can I get you anything else? Ketchup, mustard, a friendly smile?" When we asked where the restrooms were he said " it looks like your walking into the kitchen. So if you actually do that just do a few dishes while you're back there." Krispy Kreme bread pudding was absolutely great -warm, gooey with whipped cream. The cheesecake had orange and lemon zest incorporated into it. Wv bbq sauce is what I would suggest to put on any sandwich or dip with fries! Definitely going back :)

The fried green tomatoes are fantastic. Had a ghost-pepper chelada - subtle and terrific. Outstanding brisket - comparable to that which I have had in Texas. Great sauces and accompaniments.

Black bean burger was really good; wish there had been more fries. Appalachian bruschetta WAS tasty, but not enough bread for the spreads. The berry crepe was all kinds of awesome. Fave: the menu being on the back of an old album. Thumbs up.

We really like this place. The service can be slow at times, but it's not a deal breaker. The food is worth the wait... haven't had a bad meal yet.

This is my favorite place in Morgantown to for BBQ. One of the reasons I like it so much is because of the food quality. They get their food straight from local farmers. The freshness and level of meat quality is superb. I love the chicken wings. They are dry rubbed with a chargrilled smoky flavor. I got them last time I was there and took some home. Had them cold straight out of the fridge the next day and I swear they were even better that way. I'm generally a ribs and chicken guy, so that's what I usually get. Both are really good. I have tried the pulled pork sandwich once. I think it was called the "roadhouse sandwich". If you order it make sure you get extra sauce on the side, because the barely put any on the sandwich. As far as BBQ sauces, they have several ranging from the Carolina vinegar based sauce. Also they have the thick west virgina BBQ sauce which is a base for some of their other sauces, like the Hawaiian sauce, which is sweetened up with pineapples and something else. Also, their desserts are pretty creative and constantly changing everything I go. I have been to this place plenty if times and have not been disappointed yet.

Well worth the weird way Waze got me here Fabulous sampler plate. Even fried green tomatoes perfectly cook. The hot sauce tasty not numbing. Fresh cut fries. All around worth the price.

Great service, delicious food (I got the rodeo and our server surprised us with a few delicious sauces for the fries), yummy coffee (even black), chill atmosphere, and super soundtrack. The only thing keeping me from 5 stars was that the prices seemed a little high. Worth it though, overall.

Atomic Grill is one of my favorite restaurants in Morgantown, despite a few complaints. First of all, they have great activities -- live music, drink-and-draw nights, costume balls, etc. Second, the place has style. Thirdly, the food is good, and they're reasonably good at identifying gluten-free and dairy-free stuff (and generally other allergen-free things). If you're a Texan, you may not be satisfied with the brisket, which they refrigerate until it's time to serve, and then microwave. It's a bit tough, suggesting either that they cooked it too fast (or didn't let it stay hot and continue to break down post-cooking) or didn't age it enough, or both. Also, if you want to get brisket by the pound, to go, be aware that you may run into some problems -- even with as little as a one-pound order. They really, really don't seem to like to have to heat additional brisket for you, which is frustrating; it seems like they only keep two pounds warm at any given time. Perhaps they should increase the price if warming it up is such a hassle. Or maybe just keep it in the warmer? Surely there's a good solution here somewhere. The pulled pork is decent, and they have a nice selection of sauces. Only one or two are gluten-free, so be careful. Overall, I like this place a lot and try to stop in at least a couple times a month.

Holy fried green tomatoes batman these things are awesome! We went on Father's Day, a Sunday. A quick heads up, if you are coming on a Sunday try to get there early because this place fills up after church! I had no idea the atomic grill was here and now that I know I can't wait to come back! I had the fried green tomatoe Blt and it was fantastic! I got one to go for my mother, who doesn't even like friend green tomatoes, and she loved it! Dad had their pulled pork and loved it. Fantastic sauces and the pork was flavorful and moist. Yum! The service was very friendly and prompt. The sweet tea is really really sweet so unless you want cavities you might ask for half sweet half unsweet. And they have Krispy Kreme bread pudding! Talk about heart attack in a bowl but my dad loved it. Can't wait to return!

Service was really good. Burger was a Burger. $8.00 for fried green tomatoes?? ARE YOU KIDDING? Most of the menu was over priced in my opinion. One trip was enough for over priced average food.

Was defeated by the atomic burger. Hot hot hot like dexter poindexter says. This was a road trip find cause my other half had to use the bathroom. Nice idea good staff and good atmosphere. Food wasn't that good - sorry. The fried green tomatoes were too fried! Not that I'm an expert but have eaten better batter. Over priced!

Another review, this one for the "satellite" location. Atomic Grill downtown version, now being served up at 123 Pleasant Street. Most recently the Falstaff Burger was excellent, with some spicy slaw, and the spicy BBQ on the burger. Very tasty burger. True and worthy of it's namesake. Falstaff's was an excellent and legendary watering hole and eating establishment that started in Sunnyside and ended up across the street from the Nyabinghi (now 123), where Black Bear is now. My personal favorite at Falstaff's was honestly the buffalo chicken (man I craved John's buffalo chicken sandwich, and some witty conversation with Paul), but they did make a mean burger and fries too. I think it's Hawthorn Valley Beef or some such carefully, chosen, locally as possible meat. Regardless, it's nice to know they take some price in the choice of meat they use, and it pays off in the taste. I've also had the "stuff in a cup" or whatever they call it. Smashed potato/mashed potatos with some cheese, beef or chicken, sauce, etc. tossed in. I would stick with sliders or a burger if you're dining at the bar or one of the booths/tables, but if the music is so good (often) that you don't want to leave the stage or dance floor, this stuff is pretty yummy and convenient to take down and eat, cup in one hand, beer in the other. Hey, the point is, 123 has GREAT FOOD AGAIN. So get your hungry tush down there early, get some food in that belly before or with the alcohol, and enjoy yourself!

Despite the out-of-the-way location, the charm and character of Atomic Grill rivals even the trendiest downtown start-up restaurant. Most of the menu revolve around barbecue, burgers, and the like. The infamous Atomic Burger always seems to catch the eye, but forewarned, it is as spicy as they claim. Not for the faint of heart. Most of what you get is pretty good. I've had a steak that was well-cooked and seasoned appropriately. The few burgers here I've had are good, but weren't surprising in any way. I dig their fries a lot, but honestly, it's the fried green tomatoes that really do it for me. Nobody else in the area is doing this (as far as I know), and they do a great job. They're delicious, though a bit expensive (I think it's $8 for 4?) The ambiance is somewhat nostalgic, they're going for this retro-hipster vibe, and are only somewhat successful. Not sure if it's the layout, the location, or what, but the atmosphere is good but not great. I do like that they constantly feature local artists, which are scattered around the restaurant. However, this leads to a mood and theme feels a bit too disjointed, and not in a homey kind of way. They really need their alcohol license back, this is the perfect place to grab a cold, fresh WV beer with some delicious beer, but sadly that's a thing of the past. Here's hoping they'll get it back soon. Still, some really solid burgers, generally pretty good service, tasty steak, and a slew of really solid barbecue options. I tend to eat here every few months and have yet to leave disappointed (despite the lack of drinks).

I made the long drive atomic grill (10 mins is long in morgantown) to visit atomic grill and im glad i did. first off the atmosphere was nice, different than usual. They also have like 5 homemade BBQ sauces which was awesome. I was sad however that they didnt have beer. That came unexpected because it seemed like a place that would. we got loaded fries for an app and they were amazing, I ended up ordering the rodeo - pulled pork, bbq sauce, onion straws, and cheese which was very good too. If there is a better BBQ joint in morgantown, i havent found it

The Appalachian Bruschetta was awesome. My friend had been there a few times but he had little in the form of a recommendation as he has had the atomic burger every time. They are known for their BBQ so that's what I went with for the main course. The white BBQ sauce was incredible. If you are into horseradish, I say go for it. The slaw was lackluster, though it was a small amount and mostly seemed like a garnish. The pickle wasn't as crisp as I'd like. That said, this was right on the brink of a 5 star. The theme of the place is so cool, especially how the menus are on the back on an album cover.

After all the hype my wife and I set off to find out if the Atomic Grille lived up to the great reviews. It was a Tuesday about 4:30 pm and not a lot of customers were there. The first impression was a dark cafe with a rug that could have been cleaner that way the duct tape that was holding it together would have stuck better. Anything not moving was painted black. Tables and chairs were clean and silverware was wrapped in paper napkins. Both of us got today's specials- My wife got the chicken wings with french fries. The wings were leathery dry. The fries were average. When we pointed out to the waitress about the very dry wings she smiled and said that was normally the way they looked. Something to keep in mind. I ordered the prime rib. It was delicious. It came with roasted vegetables and rice pilaf. The vegetables were also excellent but the rice was overdone and sticky. We also got the bruschetta for an appetizer and it was nothing special. It kept us busy until the order got to the table. If that is what you want appetizers for it did it's job. Final impressions: Overpriced (50+) and they dropped the ball on the dry wings. We have an annual wings cookoff in Morgantown and the Atomic Grille has a lot of homework to do before next year. Should also get rid of the rug before the next health department check. The wait staff was very good and friendly.

I have eaten there many times since the day they opened for business. I have to say that in the last couple of months, the quality of the food has dropped off noticeably. Most recently my guest and I ordered two sandwiches with fries. BOTH sandwiches had cold spots throughout the meat. Not luke-warm, but cold. Refrigerator cold. For the price, you would expect much better. Went back the other night after my last less-than-pleasing experience and ordered the BLT salad. Service was fast, salad was very fresh.

We've been here a handful of times. The first few were great...food was fresh and delish. The fried greed tomatoes and atomic burger have always been exceptional. However, being from NC, we like to get the pulled pork and the last couple times it's basically dried out right in front of us in just a few minutes, meaning it's either not cooked correctly or not fresh. The collard greens are also REALLY salty. My husband loves this place (he always gets the burger) but I never want to go anymore after my last couple pork experiences. It is very kid friendly-although my kids' sliders are usually very overcooked and dry.

  • Austin W.

Not my favorite. Service is good. Polite staff who take care of your needs. They use local meat which is a plus, but my pork was so dry it pulled the moisture out of my mouth. The sauces were ok. Soggy and cold fries. The dessert special was more of the same, a bit bland with not much more say. Not sure if they were just having a rough day or if this is the norm. This all would have gotten a three star rating until I got the bill. $60 for two people and we didn't have alcohol. I will give it another try, just not anytime soon.

Good food, great service.... Think alt Ska punk meets 50's Diner... If you guys read these... More flavor in the slaw... Charge for extra sauce, really???? And where in the hell is the bathroom... Stands out in a sea of chains and mundane food....

Everything I have had here has been exceptional!! The Appalachian bruschetta is a personal favorite and is certainly unique. The fried green tomatoes are interesting and different than how Mom used to serve them. The true golden ticket here, though, is the meat. The burgers are fantastic. If you can tolerate a little bit of heat, get the Atomic Burger (the salsa is hot, but they haven't been putting quite as much on it as they originally were... plus you can always order it on the side and adjust it yourself). My favorite dish, however, is a personalized version of their BBQ burger. I don't eat pork, so I order the BBQ burger with pulled chicken and fried kale (instead of bacon). They have always accommodated that somewhat crazy request and let me tell you: it's fantastic! You can tell that the meat is locally sourced and fresh and the burger just melts in your mouth. The desserts are also something special. The menu is always rotating, but if you can catch the Krispy Kreme bread pudding, grab it while you can! It's the best they've got to offer. The service is always top-notch and the experience is always great. I'm hard to impress with food, but Atomic Grill does every time. It's definitely my favorite place to eat in Morgantown. It's well worth the detour out of downtown!

We had the atomic burger and a pulled pork sandwich to go. We didn't wait long and both were delicious and organic. The service was friendly and prompt. We will definitely be back on our next stop through Morgantown.

I am a Morgantown native, and I am ashamed that it took me so long to try the Atomic Grill. Maybe it's the whole separation-issue thing I have with the Twinkie (the AG site used to be a Wonder Bread outlet), or maybe I just need to get out of Suncrest to eat more often. Thursday night, I was glad I did. Folks, this place is the real deal. The Atomic Grill has been getting a lot of nationwide press (which is awesome) for their open-palm smack-in-the-face response to a troll on Urbanspoon ( slate.com/blogs/xx_facto… ). The natonal attention is what made me finally decide to try the place. I wasn't disappointed. This place serves legitimate food. They source their meats from within 90 miles of Morgantown. Everything they serve is made in house. I'll definitely be going back for more.

Not being a local, I can't speak to the food, but after reading about how the owner shut down a crude request for his servers to "show more skin" I had to send some love his way. If I were a local, I would be a regular just for that. For those who have no idea what I am talking about: jezebel.com/restaurant-g…

Went here while in town visiting family; we tried it out and i have to say some of the best fried green tomatoes I've had. Had the pulled Pork for the entree; really good and not over cooked; the WV BBQ sauce made it! Had the apple crumb cake for as well; so good! Friendly staff too; our service was great. Can't remember her name, but our server even bottled the sauce for me so I could take it home. definitely check it out; worth it. relaxed atmosphere as well.

Spent several years in morgantown but didn't hear much about this place until the owner brilliantly fought back against a crude comment on urban spoon.. BRAVO!!!! The potato skins were very tasty when they were featured.... but I really just fell in love with the pulled pork on them. My friend and I split the platter and EVERYTHING on it was delicious!!! Wonderful greens, delicate slaw, crunchy fries... and the pork... i'm speechless but lets just say it was some of the best I have ever had!! And I've had pulled pork from the carolinas (east and west), texas, tennessee... yea this little spot in Morgantown is the real deal!!! Waiter was also very friendly and helpful. The whole vibe is very warm and neighborly. I cannot wait to take more friends in town here and any visitors!!! Oh and I didn't order them, but one day my roommate brought home the fried green tomatoes... and they were SO GOOD! I'm going to go get some more right now.... :)

This is a BBQ joint. Stick to the BBQ ribs and fried green tomatoes and you'll be good. My fiance raved about the ribs all through the meal, but said they weren't quite worth the 24 bucks he paid for the 3/4 rack. Juicy but with a nice crispy crust and there's some good BBQ sauces to choose from. However, I got the steak and a side salad with fries and it was pretty depressing. The steak was doused in oil and butter, literally dripping, it had no salt on it and it was extremely fatty. Out of the 16 oz, I probably got 6 oz of meat. My fries were cold and soggy, not crispy at all. They didn't have oil and vinegar for the salads, which I thought was odd. My salad was super tiny and tasted like bananas. Strange. I didn't finish it. I put some salt on the steak and made my way through it because I was very hungry. Definitely NOT worth the 26 bucks I paid! All in all, stick to the BBQ stuff here. Don't try to venture too far away from the classics. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive, so that is a major plus. However, it is VERY overpriced for what you get. Side note, the place was also riddled with stink bugs, which I know are hard to control, but it made me lose my appetite quite a bit. There were 5 crawling around and above our table alone which was a huge turn off.

This place is not at all worth the hype. I love farm to table restaurants, but this one falls way short of being anything good. They fancy themselves as progressive, but seem to be so caught up on being relevant hipsters that they forget that they are a restaurant and the food should come first. Pulled pork BBQ was dry at best. Cole slaw was very underwhelming. Ghost pepper "salsa" was just some ghost peppers and onions cut up together with maybe a bit of cilantro. My sons burger was overcooked, which is a pet peeve of mine. Don't ask us how I want my burger cooked, then do whatever you want in the kitchen. If it didn't take 32 minutes to get my first burger I would have sent it back. Frozen deserts indicate that they are not made in house, and are served only partially thawed. Not to mention that they aren't good deserts to start with. The best thing I had there was a beer, which has nothing to do with the restaurant. Service was dismissive and the price is way to high for this quality of food/service. I don't mind paying for good food, but this wasn't good and I won't ever be back.

Atomic grill, you rock! Making a big contribution to the West Virginia Foundation for Rape Information Services is pretty fantastic, almost as fantastic as your tasty food. 5 stars for good food + great values.

Took our son and his roomies to Atomic last night. The Fried Green Tomatoes are glorious! And I don't even like fried tomatoes!! The menu offers a huge variety of regional barbeque styles and sauces, without having to hit any roads. And the night was made even more entertaining by our charming and funny waiter, Chett. Thanks for my custom glass, Chett!

I was eying the Atomic burger with its fried kale, but those pulled pork reviews pulled me to a decision filled with regret! I wish I had picked the atomic burger over the mediocre pulled pork. Fortunately, they were able to throw-in a bit of the fried kale upon request. Like most everyone here, i loved the fried green tomatoes. But if you consider $8 for 5 slices from a single tomato, that's not a whole lot of ROI! Boo, they don't take AMEX

One of the best in Morgantown. The Appellation Bruschetta is amazing and the ribs with West Virginia BBQ sauce are the best ribs I have had in years. I have been to Atomic Grill at least 6 times since they have opened. The staff are always amazing and the management is great. The Atomic Burger is hit or miss with the level of spice. The very first time I had it, it brought tears to the eyes, but ever since they have dulled it down and it has not been as enjoyable. My girlfriend loves the Krispy Kreme bread pudding. On one occasion she received it and the staff asked how it was, her reply of "It's ok, but it's not as good as normal", prompted the server to go in the back and get the manager. The manager insisted she have another desert to take home and enjoy later since the bread pudding "was not as good as normal".

Reading all the positive reviews about the pulled pork, I had to have it. Boy, was that a mistake. It was mostly burnt and as dry as shoe leather. The kids burgers were also over cooked. They over charge on the kids meals and charged us for one extra drink. They did give us a credit but what a hassle. We will not be back.

We decided to have dinner here because i was craving for a good burger. We started off with fried green tomatoes. They were good especially with the slightly spicy, i think, mayo dip. I ordered the atomic burger. It was really spicy but i liked it. I think i drank 2 glasses of water before i even finish half of the burger. If you're not sure if you can handle it, they're ok putting the sauce on the side. The burger was also very juicy and tasty. My husband ordered the beef brisket hoagie. It was just ok, nothing special. The meat was a little tough to my liking. Will probably not order it next time. We have a few more items that we would like to try so we'll probably be back soon. It would be nice if they are serving alcohol by then...

I ate at Atomic Grill for the first time the other day. My friend and I were in the mood for BBQ when I searched and found them. I also took my four year old nephew out to lunch with us. From the outside, you would think this is just some hole in the wall, but it's not. On the inside it is decorated beautifully with handmade paintings hanging on the wall. The menu is on old vinyl records covers. (Very neat). I got a hipster feel, but didn't feel out of place. The staff were all friendly. Our server was excellent! The food was a little pricy, so we stuck to appetizers, which still happened to be plenty of food. We ordered cheese fries with beef on them. Those were delicious! My friend ordered some wings. They were cooked perfectly and the skin was seasoned so nice. These wings actually are not split up, so they have both the wing and drum together. I got the appetizer combo that had two ribs (amazing!) two sliders (chicken and pork), and three fried tomatoes with a side of French fries. It came with three dipping sauces, which were all fantastic. I can't say anything bad about this place, except it was expensive.

The food here was average at best the last time I visited, and I've been a handful of times, the bulled pork on my "BBQ Burger".. A burger topped with pulled pork, was terribly dry. The food was also terribly expensive for what it was, I sort of griped about it to the waitress, and said " At least it's all local and grass fed" and they said " Well, it used to be"... so basically another restaurant that started out a great, locally supportive place, has turned into another money pit offering bottom shelf food with top shelf prices.

Atomic Grill is a strange mix of down-home barbecue and upscale pricing. I was shocked to find that the pulled pork platter was $16 and a rack of ribs was $30. It's decent barbecue and the array of sauces is impressive, but for the Morgantown environment, this is a pricey affair. It's conceivable that with the right product, price becomes a non-factor (but while this isn't the best barbecue I've ever had, it's some of the more expensive I've seen). The staff is passionate about their work, excited to see new faces, and eager to make recommendations. They run two kegs on tap and have a series of consistent bottled beers (unique but also a little overpriced). The aesthetic is pulled off well, I think: plain black booths and walls, which serve to draw the eye to the more creative decor (original artwork for sale and menus made out of recycled album covers). Still, the price was a big disappointment. The draw of barbecue is more than flavor: it's an everyman kind of food. But for $20/head, Atomic Grill can't really be a perennial visit (at least not for this broke grad student). From other opinions and my own experience, this place does some things very well - while other choices unfortunately fail to impress. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. The carolina sauce (vinegar-based) was excellent and paired nicely with the fries (just the right crisp to them). The pulled pork was a little dry and the coleslaw was tasteless. I think Atomic Grill has a lot of potential and with their sauces, I could see certain menu items looked promising. For the price and hit-or-miss menu, however, there's still some work to be done to make this a true staple.

The Atomic grill is one of the many hidden treasures of Morgantown. The BBQ sauces were unique and tasteful and the pulled pork was also flavorful and tender. I would highly recommend a visit to this local Morgantown restaurants to see what it is all about.

Great food. Fantastic service. Wish the price was a bit cheaper but that's the price you pay for local ingredients. A must try! We had the pulled pork and 1/3 ribs. Filling amount for two people. The WV sauce is delicious!

I would like to say I was very impressed with the Atomic Grill. The atmosphere was awesome, was very easy to talk to the staff who, btw, made an awesome recommendation for dinner. The Black and White was a great sandwich. Great pulled pork and the fries were awesome. Definitely going to come back and will bring friends when they come to Visit. Keep up the good work!

Do not go here. Our experiences have been declining and are now at rock bottom. It took forever to get our food - it was incorrect and cold. How long should it take to serve, ribs, pulled chicken and salad? When we tried to complain we were treated like it was our fault. The manager was absent until we finally insisted on seeing him - and he also blamed us. Excuse after Excuse with no apology at all. There are many local places to eat in Morgantown so we will not be back. It is a shame because of the local sourcing of food - we will still be local, but not at this place.

Amazing on many levels! Fried green tomatoes are fantastic. And the brisket is the best I have had. Dont forget the WV Sauce!

had no tastedisappointed with the fried green tomatoes. They were DEEP FRIED....had no taste or consistency. Fries were good, BBQ was alright. Overall I'd not recommend it.

Went here on a Sunday it was slow. We ordered the pulled pork, and brisket. Both dry and just ok. When I asked for the North Carolina bbq. They brought out a baste sauce.Which was just apple cider vinegar. We were disappointed.

I just read an article about how this restaurant handled a sexist customer's remark that your female staff should show more skin. That instead of letting him get away with that you are having a potato skin special and donating the proceeds to rape information. I just wanted to say, as a woman, bravo and thank you for that! I live in Chicago otherwise I'd be coming in for that! It's important for women to stick together when we are degraded like that but when a man stands up and sets an example like this its so good for other boys and men to see and take notice in order to reverse bad patterns that are still out there. Thank you for turning something negative into something positive!

Spectacular local grown and raised food at reasonable prices. The flavors are out of this world and the customer service is beyond awesome. Even the art is local. This is one of those places that defines Morgantown. Try the fried green tomatoes, the brisket, and the Appalachian bruschetta. In fact, try everything because I've yet to eat something that tasted bad there.

The food was great! Great atmosphere! Would definitely stop here again on my way through WV.

Exactly the kind of place I want to support! The owner is awesome, and I will eat here every time I am in town

We don't live far from this place but we finally got around to trying it after my brother went there. To be honest the reviews on yelp scared me off. Well, couple things I've read on yelp are dead on like way to expensive for what you get. I got the brisket platter and my wife got the 3/4 rack ribs. The ribs were really good but you can get ribs just as good for much cheaper in Morgantown. Their WV BBQ sauce was good. My brisket was delicious but they do not give you much at all and once you cut away the fat you don't get much for your money. Their slaw is terrible. The greens were ok and the fries were just ok too. We had our 5 year daughter with us and we got her the grilled cheese sandwich and fries and it wasn't very good at all. There wasn't many people in there yet there were a ton of employees all hanging around the bar. We also got the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer and it was expensive for the tiny little pieces you get and they we so-so. All in all it was ok but expensive for what you get.

Slightly expensive, but quality ingredients well-prepared by friendly and knowledgeable staff. What more can you ask for?

I agree with A F. The owner seems like a really cool guy who handled the problem well. The offender should be prosecuted. Unfortunately I don't know for what but there otta be a law. I ever find myself in Morgantown I'll be in for POTATO skin.

Great dishes and you won't leave hungry. Atmosphere so so. Not sure I would take my vegetarian friends, not many choices.

  • Rob W.

Food was very good. Highly recommend the Appalachia Bruschetta. I could've just eaten that and the collards. My wife got the fried green tomato blt and was a little disappointed. More bread and lettuce then tomato. We will definitely be going there again.

Absolutely the best BBQ near the Mason Dixon line, hands down! I'm a Morgantown native living in Atlanta and I can say with certainty that the food at Atomic rivals any in the South. Well done, folks!

    (5)
  • Joe P.

First time here and I can testify - this place rocks! Not just the BBQ, but the fact that they cooked the greens the way I grew up with in the south, tilted the needle for me!

When I first visited this place in October I was a little disappointed. I am happy to say that I have changed my review to 4 stars rather than 2 and report that the food was excellent on my last two visits. Wagu dogs and brisket are excellent. The collard greens are the best I've ever had!

Service was friendly and the food was ok. They have a cornbread bruschetta appetizer that is tasty and unique.

Excellent. Exceeded expectations. Went because of the "skins" story, but will go back because of the amazing food and staff.

This place is amazing. Can not recommend it enough! Food was outstanding, the service was prompt and wonderful, the food was outstanding, the atmosphere is awesome, and the owner is one hep cat. Did I mention how fantastic the food was?

Needs more vegetarian options, but other than that, good service & atmosphere! The grilled vegetables were yummy, and so were the fried tomatoes.

I don't think this place is as great as reviews make it seem. I gave the restaurant two stars because it wasn't awful, but it was far from great. The pulled chicken on the pulled chicken platter was not flavorful at all. I tried the WV BBQ sauce which isn't that special. The waitress said if I didn't like it she would bring me something else, when I asked for a different sauce she said it would be a .75cent charge... I'm not whining about 75 cents, but her statements were inconsistent. Also, the pulled chicken was served on bread which made no sense to me. This place could have some potential with a broader menu selection and a re-make of certain choices.

I love the local theme of the food and restaurant, I hope that doesn't get lost with increased business. The barbecue was amazing, burgers are excellent too. Fries were just the right amount of crispiness, sauces were excellent. The ribs were fair, I ordered a full rack and got two different thicknesses of ribs one of them was much tastier than the other. I do love that the employees are passionate about recommendations. I like that they have Morgantown brewing Company on tap. Overall excellent experience however I do feel that the prices are a bit extreme. If the prices were lowered by 30% I would be a regular at this place.

We finally have a truly amazing BBQ restaurant in Morgantown! If you haven't been yet you are missing out, all locally sourced ingredients, wonderful out of this world flavors, and great staff :)

This place is good. It's not as good as it could be, but it's good. I had a pulled pork sandwich with a side of fries and I got a very good meal. The pork seemed like it was a little bit overdone, but I can live with that because it had a nice strong smokey flavor and the sauce was excellent. The fries were a little bland but I really wasn't there for the fries so I'm not heart broken over it. The desert here is really the highlight. I've tasted multiple desert items and all of them were awesome but the blue-berry cake is far and away my favorite. My only big complaint is the price, Atomic Grill is very pricy which is a turn off. I would suggest that they try to focus more on barbecue and let some of the other items on their menu go, I think this would help take the price down a little.

Absolutely loved this place and will go back. We ordered the Appalachian Bruschetta and it was delcious. I ordered the brisket sandwich. The rest of my group had the big pig and the rodeo. I got plain fries but the other two had garlic parmesan and Cajun and both were good. Friendly service and good prices.

I'll definitely come in when I'm in Morgantown for Baylor v WVU later this year. I'll bring my group from Dallas for sure. Anyone that does what you did handling the "more skin" feedback not only gets my $7.00 donation via paypal but also 5 stars on Yelp. Well done and thanks from the father of twin 13 year old daughters!

Great food! Everything they serve is very high end and well made. The cook's know their stuff and have been trained well! They sometimes make a krispy kreme bread pudding that is incredible! Awesome place, no reservations available but they serve quickly

Carolina BBQ? Maybe, but you wouldn't find this BBQ in the Carolina's. Very bland. Way overpriced for the amount and quality of food. Also I think they are trying too hard for some kinda hipster cool vibe. I'd rather my waitstaff didn't have that grunge look...Although the service was good, food was decidedly mediocre

Yummy food and the service is always too notch. Love the grilled veggies and fried green tomatoes, maybe add a few more vegetarian options? Can't wait to try out the new beer and wine!!

Went here with my family on Thursday night for dinner. I agree with the other review that the chefs nailed it. I had the pulled pork platter and it was terrific. Similar to carnitas because parts were caramelized and crispy. Great selection of sauces. I especially liked the WV, the white sauce, and the vinegar based. I had a bite of my niece's smoked steak and it was "melt in your mouth" tasty. The Appalachian bruschetta was also very good and I was partial to the smoked tomato reduction and the collard green pesto. I will definitely visit this restaurant when I come to Morgantown to visit family.

Nice atmosphere but I like things hot, and there food had no favor. Went once and would not go back even though local-wise it would be perfect for me and my family.

Great food! All the ingredients are local. The sauces are amazing and the service is great. They have specials that are awesome. We had the chili cheese fry special the one time and they were definitely one of the best things I've ever had!

This place was fantastic! My first visit involved an enthusiastic doorman and a quick convo with the owner. Upon chatting, I learned that they locally source all their food! The specials change daily and there's no freezers! The desserts are ingenious and the food is divine. This place is a jewel.

Good food. Outstanding service. Sauces were excellent. Pulled pork was a little dry but still quite tasty. We also had the brisket cheese fries which were spicy and quite flavorful.

We came here based on the reviews. Good atmosphere and decent prices. Knocked them down a star for forgetting one of our orders but otherwise the service was good. You get a lot of food for the price so be prepared to take some home. The baby back ribs aren't so baby...probably the meatiest ones I've had! A few at our table tried the krispy kreme bread pudding but we got mixed reviews. Overall a good experience and worth the drive.

The pulled pork and fried green tomatoes are favorites that keep me coming back. And for fall they've added a pumpkin BBQ sauce and a sweet potato cheesecake. Both are outstanding.

Fantastic LOCALLY sourced food. So glad to have our own homegrown BBQ joint that really takes pride in their food. Try the Fried Green Tomatoes, they're amazing.

Food was excellent . Service was great and super friendly. Came back twice in the same week. This place was always packed. The one thing I will say is come earlier in the day for food if possible. The first night they ran out of pulled pork,(after my order), second night brisket ran short by 6pm. It seems to be a newer resturant who is still trying to figure out inventory needs.

Having spent a lot of time in the South, I am admittedly a BBQ snob. This is not helped by the fact that I am an avid Southern BBQ'er myself. That having been said, while I have given these folks an average rating, most of you would probably rate the Atomic Grill at least at 4 or 5 stars. Both their brisket and their pulled pork are good. Their collard greens are without a doubt the best I've ever had (that includes my grandmother's). The baked beans are also good. The sauces I had some trouble with, but they made a good effort on their Carolina sauce which is extremely tough to get right for folks above the NC border. The beer selection was also good but the staff wasn't that solid on their craft beer knowledge. But nothing (except the greens) was GREAT. It just didn't WOW me. Also, the atmosphere had something of a metrosexual, hippie kinda feel to it. I'm used to benches, and picnic tables covered in newspaper, or picnic table tablecloths, with beer bottles in a bucket. I am not used to record album menus, and multi colored chalk. But that doesn't mean it's bad, it's just not my BBQ style. You may love it (everyone else seemed to.) Once again, I'm a Southern BBQ snob. That having been said: Would I recommend the Atomic Grill to someone? Absolutely! Will I eat there again myself? Definitely! I had a great time and the service was excellent! So don't let my BBQ snobbery deter you.

The food was not good at all. Fries were inedible. How do you serve terrible fries? It is a potato that is deep-fried. BBQ sauce (the vinegar-based one) was nothing I wanted to eat again after my first try. The guy working as the greeter (seemed like he was probably an owner) seemed uninterested in our dissatisfaction, although it had to be evident. They try to be some hip joint, but it really is nothing special. I would never recommend going to this place.

Went back and tried again, I had the pulled chicken, my wife had the pulled pork. Both were dry and the carolina sauce would get you kicked out of the Carolinas. we won't be back.

Not impressed. If I had to go back I would only order fried green tomatoes. Food quality ok, service ok, choices bad, and no beverage options.

Congratulations to the owner and staff of this new restaurant! You guys nailed it: Awesome food (featuring local meats,) with great atmosphere, music and service. Although this is a new restaurant, and they were very busy, food came quickly, and service was impeccable. I had the pulled chicken sandwich with West Virginia barbeque sauce. It came with very serious fries and a small side of red cabbage slaw. Barbeque sauce, which was delicious, was served on the side, allowing me to add as much (or as little) as I liked. My friend had the pulled pork sandwich, and was also delighted with her meal and with the restaurant as a whole. We'll be back often. Run and get you some. Really. Tell 'em Dee sent you.
