Got a few hotdogs. All chili oriented apart from the ham and pineapple one. All of them good. This did not taste like some lame canned chili. It had a great homemade flavor and was real. Full of meat, beans and sauce. Speaking of sauce! The cheese sauce was awesome as well. It was also a really cool set up. Like a making fun of being West Virginians. Piles of junk and all kinds of jokes. I have never ordered food then dat down in a real school bus to eat it. This place is a must stop on any road trip or day out.

On an impulse we went on Sat afternoon. It was far too perfect of a day, as confirmed by the volume of people. Waiting 70 min to place our order and then another 40 to get our order was a bit excessive. They have been around Kong enough that they should staff accordingly. Ordered pineappalachis dogs, snuffy dogs, and down wayne dogs in our party, all were delicious. Only negative was I ordered the blue cheese garlic fries and had to return them. The garlic was a garlic pepper, and they put jalapeño cheese on fries as well. Did not realize all fries come with this cheese, I do not like that much kick. They did graciously replace fries with hot, plain fries quickly. May go again sometime, but will plan for a less than perfect day.

The atmosphere is great! Love, love all the crazy things that make up this awesome roadside stand. The weenies were fabulous and the chilli cheese fries were the yummiest! We will definitely return to this wonderful place.

Unique place to dine. Had a Snuffy Dog and it was tasty. My friend had a Hillbilly Dog and fries and enjoyed them. Worth the trip to experience the ambience. Their dining area is inside school buses!! And you are serenaded by hillbilly music. Wait staff was fun!

You don't go for the hot-dogs. You go for the experience. The brand is an interesting one. It reminds me almost as if it were inspired by the larger-than-life theme restaurants so often found at beaches. This concept was taken back and implemented right in our own backyard. Be it a gimmick or authentic, I'm appreciative for one big reason - they have all beef hotdogs. I don't eat any kind of pork, so the fact that they sell beef hotdogs means that I can enjoy a food that I normally have to make myself. The hotdogs themselves aren't anything special, nor are the buns. They do, however, have tons of toppings which I appreciate. I don't know where they get their jalapenos, but I love them because they have a home-pickled sort of feel. They are greener and fresher than the store-bought jalapenos, and the seeds are still attached. They made a very smart move by having their business on Rt. 2. They are always packed with friendly, hungry bikers. Even my uncle likes to get on his bike and travel from Parkersburg just to eat at their location.

We saw this on Divers, Dine-ins, and Dives and also heard about it on Kentucky Sports Radio. It was on our way home and we decided to swing through to check it out! It was defiantly a very unique one of a kind place! Lots of fun decor to discover and look at! We just got the food and ate it in the truck because it was easier for us. The hotdogs were good! The UK Wildcat (of course as fans that was a no brained) and the nacho dog were good. They were hotdogs you could pick up and didn't loose any of your toppings in your lap. Ever young tasted fresh and it was great! Give a tip and meet the pet that pays a visit, I screamed! Fun place to go, especially with kids, they would love it!!

Love this super fun and quirky place! Seriously delicious eats in a great atmosphere! What more could you ask for!?

  • Randall W.

The hot dogs are good. I got a wv dog and a Harrison. The wv was a good rendition of the area favorite; coney sauce, slaw, Onion and mustard. I thought both dogs could have had less toppings as they were kind of sloppy and you could hardly taste any dog in there. I got there a little before noon on a Labor Day weekend and there was already a line waiting for them to open. After they opened, I waited less than an 1/2 hour to get my food. By the time I finished and was leaving, it had to be a 1-2 hour wait as the line was out the parking lot and down the road with cars and bikes parked up and down wv rt2. Bottom line: it was a fun ride on a nice day but I wouldn't go out of my way just to get a bite.

Best damn dogs around! Do yourself a favor and stop by! Love this place!!! We drove 2144 miles and this was our last stop. The family who own it are really nice & go out of their way to make sure that you have a great time. Definitely an item on everyone's bucket list! Truly a one of a kind!!

Holy "Homewrecker". On our last day visiting our local friend convinced us to come try out this food challenge. When we first pulled up we were a little sketchy about entering, but our friend ensured us it's a good time. Sure enough as soon as we entered we felt welcomed with open arms. The women taking orders was as friendly as could be and when they heard we were first timers so we're the people in the kitchen. Four of us attempted the 15", 12 minute hotdog challenge, but in the end it beat us all. That being said, it was actually pretty delicious and had great fresh toppings. The experience was fun and if I went back Id split the massive dog or try one of the any other varieties they had.

Ordered a Barnyard Bird Dog; service was slow and food is a little pricey, but it is good and the atmosphere is awesome.

This was quite an unexpected treat in West Virginia! I was visiting someone, and she introduced me to this place, and I was amazed! Not only their decoration and ambience were incredibly unique and funny, but their food was cheap and delicious at the same time! Happy me! :) I ordered a hot dog and also had fried mac n' cheese. They were really good! The slaw and the seasoning was great, and I thought the fried mac n' cheese had its own unique taste to it. A lot of the foods on the menu sound dicey, but they are unexpectedly good. The only complaint I have is the portion. The cheaper price has its consequences, which means small hot dogs! After I finished mine (which was $2.50, I think), my mind was telling me that I wanted more. I ended up ordering another, but I wish the food come in different sizes (such as small, medium, large, etc.). Overall, MUST VISIT place in West Virginia!

Very unique spot to stop by and get the stereotypical West Virginia experience! Fun and lots to stare at while you wait in line. The dogs were good, and had vegetarian options! Yay! Don't forget to write your name somewhere before you leave!

  • Duke D.

This was my first visit. I'd seen it on Diners, Drive Ins & Dives. Most restaurants don't live up to expectations. This one did. It is truly a unique experience. I ordered 2 WV Dogs that I had doctored up with a couple extra condiments. It wasn't so much the taste of the dog as it was the perfect mix of condiments. The slaw & home made chili are necessities. Take enough time to walk around the place and snap pictures. You could visit dozens of times and still see something new each time.

  • Yvonne W.

Love it! People are friendly. Love the nostalgia hanging all around. Unique menu. Just gets better every visit. Don't forget to leave your personal graffiti!

Visited after seeing an episode of Triple D. They have a wide menu with lots of options. Five of us went and we all had something different. Everything was made as ordered and for the crowd relatively quick. Food was good, staff friendly and helpful. Owners were on site and working. Spent a few minutes talking with them. Very nice folks. All and all its hot dogs but they've done a great job putting together a spot worth visiting.

If you can get past the tourist-trap kitsch and their odd fascination with Guy Fierri you'll find that Hillbilly Hot Dogs is THE BEST HOT DOG PLACE IN WEST VIRGINIA. HHD has a metric crap-ton of character and atmosphere - too much, actually - which can be distracting. That's okay: power through and get amazing forced meat on a bun, with a bunch of tasty and filling toppings. There's about fifty different varieties on the menu or you can make your own up. Me, I tend towards the Rahall, a grilled spicy mettwurst with kraut, jalapenos, grilled onions, and a spicy mustard that I leave off. Add in one of the dozen or so fried sides and a beer and damn, you're set son. Also, this review applies to the mothership in Lesage only. The Huntington branch is fine and all but lacks a certain something. That one's a four star site - still worth a trip but not an experience. Hillbilly Hot Dogs - great, even if Guy Fierri likes it.

Fantastic atmosphere and good food. Received an enthusiastic greeting from a young lady who clearly enjoys her job. Great selection of hot dogs, burgers and other casual food. Definitely worth going out of your way to experience!

Love this restaurant. The wait staff are always pleasant and the food is outstanding! I always get the WV dog (slaw tastes delicious) and garlic ranch fries (which is enough to share). I love Hillbilly Hotdogs, if you have never been you gotta go!

Love this place. Totally worth a side trip just to come here. If your stomach can take it, always get the home wrecker. Always makes the car ride home interesting.

A truly unique atmosphere that's fun for adults and (especially) kids, amazingly delicious comfort food, and spectacular, friendly service. What more can I say? Do not miss it.

LoL this place is cool. The outside "decor" reminds me of where my father lives before he demolished the buildings on the property where his house now stands. The school buses were an interesting addition. Never thought i'd be eating lunch on a piece of plywood, sitting on a vinyl wrapped bus seat. Food was good. Chili was spicy and the dogs were the usual fare. Onion rings were tasty but only smelled like beer... didn't have that beer zing to them that I was hoping for. Although I've found that beer flavor in beer batter is hard to accomplish without using a really strong beer. Last time I tried, I used an IPA and it worked pretty well... Old Milwaukee just won't cut it.

No question, best hot dog (Taco Dog) I've ever had. And add the Ranch Fries as a side and this hillbilly meal will be hard to beat anywhere. Great hospitality by the friendly staff, too!

  • Mike R.

Amazingly Cheap! You'd expect this place to be silly expensive due to their TV fame, but we were shocked when you could scoop a chili dog for $1.50! The service was excellent and friendly. Food was delicious too. You have to go. I recommend winter time, the girl working told us there is oft a two hour wait... 2 HOURS.

If your coming to Hillbilly Hot Dogs. Bring lots of money. The food is great and cheap but you can't just eat one and you can't leave with out a shirt. This place rocks.

The best place for hotdogs with a wide variety, when I say wide variety I mean in hotdog combinations. Staff is Awesome!! Just walk in order, take a seat till its ready

We have wanted to go here since we first heard of it a few years back, but we were just never in this part of WV til now. The "ambiance" is so much fun. The dining room is a converted old bus with tables put in it. The grounds are decorated with all kinds of hillbilly "objects d'art". All of this in itself makes this place a hoot, but what'll get us back here is the food. We split some onion rings and fried pickles. The pickles were awesome! The poppers were good too, but those pickles were special. For our meal, I had the Nacho Dog, a hot dog with nacho cheese smashed and crumbled tortilla chips, jalapenos, and some pretty good chili. He had a Portobello mushroom burger with jalapenos, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and habanero hot sauce, which he thoroughly enjoyed. The service was very friendly and playful, which suits this place very well. When we are ever in this part of WV again, we will definitely go back to Hillbilly Hot Dogs.

  • Sandra F.

A must try!!! If it wasn't for the food network, we wouldn't have known about this unique place. I like the rustic/countryside feel to this hot dog joint. It is connected to a bus where you can enjoy your meal. Also there is outdoor seating for those who like the outdoor or have pets. The hot dogs were delicious! I got the hillbilly hot dog which is fried beef franks with chili, cheese, and onions and my husband got the veggie dog which contains coleslaw and cheese. Pictures don't do justice, you have to visit this place!

    (4)
  • Tim T.

Did not do the big wiener! The rest was just like eating at Dairy Queen! We had a great ride there and back!

  • Chas M.

This place rules! I saw this place on Food Network and had to do the tourist thing and mob it shortly after. No, actually I was driving back from E Tennessee and we made a detour up to grab some Hillbilly goodness. There is another, more modern one but we chose the old school food shack in the middle of nowhere. The hot dogs were good and you can even sit in a broken down bus and eat! We ordered a bunch of sides and they were all good too. Only bummer, they dont serve beer...lol. You can write your name on the walls and bring a camera cuz its good photo oportunity!

Great place for hot dogs in WV. Due to creative use of toppings on an otherwise ordinary American delicacy, I give this place a 4. Had the mini Home Wrecker as I was neither crazy enough nor hungry enough for the full 15" of stomach-wrenching pleasure! Delicious! The hot dog itself was good but not as good as the snap-style dogs on the Jersey Shore. Disappointed because they were out of onion rings, fried mushrooms; settled for fried pickles, zucchini fries and garlic ranch fries, all delicious. Great atmosphere! Hours of viewing pleasure in this trove of Red Neck treasures. Bikers paradise, even saw a Native American decked out in their feathers, turquoise, and moccasins, and no the were not an attraction, just a regular paying guest. Memorize their song and get a free Hot Dog. Eat the Home Wrecker, get a T-shirt and a stomach ache. Awesome place to return to the next time I'm in WV. Because of all of the Food Network and Travel Channel exposure, come early or stand in line for at least 30 minutes before you even get to the door. Menus says fast food slow, so if you have a few hours to spare, and willing to wait another 30 minutes to get your grub on, try it out!

Heading to Point Pleasant, WV for Mothman related activities and incidentally saw the sign for Hillbilly Hotdogs. Memories of the DDD episode flooded my brain. I knew we had to stop. So on the way back we stopped in to see what the fuss was about. Got a West Virginia Dog and a Hillbilly Dog. They were ok... one was supposed to have been deep fried ...didn't change the taste really. The slaw was pretty good. The sauce was alright. LOTS of onions. They had Mello Yello....a blast from the past. The amount of dust accumulation on the can was an indicator of that. If you memorize the song they sing when you put money in the tip jar (printed on the menu) you get a free hotdog. Point is... I'm glad we stumbled across it, but I wouldn't go out of my way.

In the land of kitch, Hillbilly Hot Dogs is a palace. This place has perfected the upsell of the humble wiener to high, delicious haute hillbilly art, and they've done so with a no-holds barred embrace of the region's redneck reputation. My recommendation is that if you're anywhere near this place or can detour to be near this place, make a point of stopping for a ridiculously fun hotdog experience.

Like awesome greasy food and crazy atmosphere? Then you will love Hillbilly Hot Dogs! If you like good, healthy food, and clean, tasteful surroundings, this is not the place for you. I had a Hillbilly Dog and Fried Mac and Cheese and both were delicious. I had fun wandering around and looking at, well, everything. There were picnic tables outside, and it was nice to eat out there on a nice day. I only gave four stars because there was a long line and they were a little slow, but it was totally worth the wait.

On the way to visit family in West Virginia, I decided to look up any DDD places on the way. So glad I found this one! My family (parents and sister) were complaining all the way from Indianapolis to Lesage, worrying about it, complaining about how awful the food would be, and telling me what a dumb idea this was. When we pulled up, we all started laughing, and kept laughing the whole time we were there! The atmosphere is fun and funny, the staff is lighthearted and kind, and the food is excellent! My parents have been travelling back to their hometown in West Virginia for elusive "Slaw Dogs" for over 30 years, and now find them disappointing after having a Hillbilly Hotdog! We also had fried pickles and onion rings, both of which were the best I have ever had. If you are driving through this area, don't miss your chance to experience this place!

This place is great!!! We were passing thru on our way back to Kansas City and new this was on the way home from seeing it on Diners, Dives, and Drive inns. It is exactly as they show it on TV. There is so much decor on the outside you are not sure how to get in. Even when you find the door they put the door knob on the left side but the door opens on the right so we had fun sitting and watching people try to get in. I ordered the Snuffy Dog and my husband ordered the Flu Shot with a side of regular and ranch, bacon, cheese fries. Hands down this is the best hot dog and fries I have ever had. Flu Shot: Chili Sauce and jalepenos......Husband LOVED Snuffy Dog: Chili Sauce, Onions, and Mustard.....I LOVED I have eaten at Pink's hot dog stand and had a hot dog at Nathan's in Coney Island and Hillbilly kicks both of their buts. The hot dogs are cooked perfect, the buns are really soft, and the chili sauce is really good. Both fries were the best! I wish someone would franchise Hillbilly Hot dogs here in Kansas City!!!!

I had heard about this place from friends and even saw it on the Food Network once. So when I was driving to Tennessee and saw the signs on the side of the road, I had to stop. It's definitely a unique place with the restaurant being made up of some old buses and a shack more or less. Inside its filled with junk hanging from everywhere like an old flea market. I really want to try the Homewrecker challenge next time I'm back but I wasn't too hungry so I only had a milkshake. Definitely a cool place though!

    (4)
  • Alethea W.

If you are looking for a place that you can just say you have been there, this is one of those places. The idea is pretty cool but the food is just not at any level that you can brag about the food. I did however appreciate the fried dill pickles. If they could find a better recipe for their chili they could go up at least one star if not two.

(#15 on the Travel Channel's top 101 places to chow down) We drove to Hillbilly Hotdogs and weren't quite sure what to expect. We've seen it on the Food Network as well as the Travel Channel, but the actual place completely blew away expectations. The exterior is legit like a hillbilly's yard but to the extreme. The dining area is part shed part bus. But on with the food. Obviously we had to try a Homewrecker; it's their claim to fame. Finish it in under 12 minutes and you get a free tee. This 15" hot dog weighs in at one pound and is topped with jalapenos, chili, habanero sauce, lettuce, nacho cheese, bacon, onions and cole slaw. We thought about ordering one each, but decided to split it three ways b/c we wanted to get dinner too. They said they couldn't make it originally b/c they were out of large buns, but we asked for multiple "small" buns to make like a ghetto big bun and they agreed it would be possible. I finished my third of the Homewrecker in around 2 minutes. And instantly regretted not just getting a whole one for myself. It's big, but not that big (if you are a true serious eater). I ended up also ordering a pizza dog and an Out Wayne dog afterwards. Both were pretty good; the Out Wayne was like a mini-homewrecker with jalapenos, chili, cheese, onions and bacon. I have a pretty large appetite, so I probably could've had 5-6 dogs off the menu or the Homewrecker by myself. All the other patrons who were also there tended to stick with 1-2 dogs and splitting an appetizer. If I lived in the area, I'd probably hit it up quite often; their dogs are delicious and their over the top decor is fun. I'd definitely recommend it if you ever find yourself driving through WV.

If you're looking for a fun and unusual place to go and have some hot dogs, then this is a good place to check out. The building is a amalgam of a shack, shed, old school bus and random junk. They have some excellent variations of dogs. And you can sign your name anywhere in the restaurant. They don't appreciate that at the Olive Garden but this place didn't mind at all.

    (4)
  • Jack D.

Glad I stopped. Found it on my DD&D app. They definitely have a Hillbilly theme. Not sure they got the order correct but good dogs and appetizers. Definitely bring your camera.

There used to be a goat on the property. Maybe some chickens too, if I recall correctly. You can get married here. I'd rather eat outside than in the old school buses, but you have to at least go check them out. There's like ten or fifteen years worth of initials and dumb stuff written all over everything. It's excellent.

We drove from Pittsburgh to eat here and were not disappointed. We had The Hillbilly Dog (2), The Taco Dog, The Tater Bacon Egger Dog, garlic ranch fries, and onion rings (1/2 and order) for under 20 bucks. The dogs were fried crispy and loaded with toppings that are fresh - the jalapenos are VERY good. The fries and rings were seriously among the best we've had. Sharie, one of the owners, waited on us and was extremely friendly and welcoming. The place is an all around good time with crazy decor and fun seating arrangements. And a note about the sewage smell -- we noticed nothing unusual. And if there ever was a problem like that, I cannot imagine the wonderful people who waited on us today wouldn't mention it or apologize for it. Seriously, there people are extremely kind and treat you like family. I wouldn't let that review scare you off if you're up for the adventure!

Most eclectic decor of any place I have ever eaten. Not a big fan of hot dogs but these were good. Overall a pretty cool experience.

  • Skittle J.

A fun place to go for a hotdog. When it comes to a veggie-dog, unless it's made from scratch, it's nothing exceptionally special. Unfortunately, Hillbillys don't make veggie dogs from scratch... but at least they use SmartDogs which is a good brand! It was a fun experience eating in the back of the bus in near darkness... and the jalapeno poppers and fried pickle spears were really delicious.

Looking for a comfortable dining experience, with great service, expertly prepared healthy and delicious food, where you're swaddled in first class luxury? Don't bother going to Hillbilly Hotdog. However, if you want an extraordinarily unusual, over-the-top, out of the ordinary, study in excess kind of meal, then stop by. Start by visiting their website: hillbillyhotdogs.com or YouTube search the Food Network's "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" episode that visited--you might want to be mentally prepared for what you'll see. Which is a ramshackle pile of old buildings, school buses (used as dining rooms), and junk scattered on a hillside along the Ohio River. A treasure trove of tacky, with amusing stuff all around. Within lies the restaurant. A varied menu of hotdogs, burgers and sides, with feature menu items large enough to feed a small army. Hillbilly Hotdog is best known for it's hot dogs (duh!), in particular a 5# monster called the "Homewrecker", with a mess of just about everything heaped on it. And, surprisingly, it's pretty good. You'll feel a sense of victory (and nausea) should you finish it, as I did. Plenty of other items, smaller and huge, on the menu, and it's a fun place to stop by on a warm day just to take it all in. If you're traveling through the lower part of West Virginia on I-64, make a point of hopping off the interstate and driving north a few miles to see, eat, and attempt to digest all that is Hillbilly Hotdog.

It is what it is! The most unique hotdog stand in the USA! So many options - so much fun! Worth the trip from wherever you are.
