We are racing across Kentucky in order to get there before they close. This is a jewel from ages passed that not only allows me to relive the tastes that used to be so common. (Ice cream soda) but also introduce them to my college bound teenage daughter. (Hand made shakes) and chili dogs and onion rings and ...,,,, etc. the decor is authentic too, down to the neon juke box and soda bar stools. Not only do they prepare quality but the prices are from the old days too. The prices here are way reasonable compared to a couple of soda fountains I visit in Virginia. So just called and the soda fountain is open until 8 so we will make it just fine. Makes for a good day.

They have such a wonderful variety of shakes and great, unique and delicious food! Travelling to Huntington? This is where the locals go for a great lunch out!

Come here every so often with family when i can get the time, I love how good the food is here and the jukebox is an added bonus to the restaurant portion. The pharmacy is no different, by which I mean its excellent. The staff really know their stuff and Ric is one of the nicest guys around.

My significant otter and I headed out of town for a weekend in Cincinnati and he suggested we stop at Griffith & Feil on the way there for dinner. I was in! We've stopped before and it's adorable, the service is friendly, and the food is great. Both times we've visited I've ordered WV hot dogs (chili, slaw, mustard and onions) with onion rings. They're delicious so why bother trying anything else. The otter had the burger last time (he liked it, but he's a more adventurous eater) and went with the bbq this round. He liked the pulled pork and sauce on the bun, but he was not overly impressed with the fries (get the onion rings, people!). We've never had room for dessert, which is a shame 'cause they are an old-fashioned soda fountain and have phosphates and shakes and sundaes and such. This is an easy exit off I-64 and much better than fast food.

Great sandwiches, real deal soda fountain and a fully functioning pharmacy to boot!

Fabulous soda fountain and grill. We try to stop here for a Monte Cristo and phosphate whenever we are passing through. Kenova is a quaint town and worth exploring if you have the time.

So my husband's best friend got married this past Saturday in Pennsylvania. My husband was in the wedding. Where did we go last week? Was it Pennsylvania? Yes. Good, you're following me. When you get on Google maps to get directions from Nashville to 3332 Little Pine Creek Rd, Waterville, PA (yes, we got VERY familiar with this address), you will, of course, be given three routes. The first (and quickest) is through Ohio. Don't go that way. It's Ohio; there's nothing to see. Take the second route. It may be 12 minutes slower, but baby, it's worth it. The second route takes you across the top of West Virginia, teases you with Maryland for about 30 miles, and deposits you onto Pennsylvania State Highway 220. Why else should you go this way instead of through Ohio? If you go through Ohio, you'll miss the chance to stop at Griffith and Feil Drug Store. You don't want to do that. Kenova, West Virginia is the very first exit off of I-64 once you cross the state line from Kentucky. This place is listed on those green signs that tell you some of what you can find after taking the exit, so there's no excuse to miss it. It caught my eye when I was speeding by at 90 miles per-I mean, when I was safely going the speed limit. I saw the words 'Soda Fountain.' I said "Did you see that? Did that say Soda Fountain?" My husband said "Yes, that's what that said." Me: "No shit...so like a legit soda fountain?" Him: "I guess that's what that means." Me: "You wanna go find out...don't answer that; we're going." I may or may not have cut someone off in order to get to this exit. If you are reading this and you feel like that was you, please accept my apology. You can't miss this place. Just go straight into town. Park right out front. Go inside. YES, there is a legit drugstore/soda fountain here! The store/soda fountain part is in the front, and there is a pharmacy in the back. It's a small store, but there is a whole lot of history in it. This place has been open since sometime in the 1800s, and there is a pharmacist that still works there occasionally that has worked there since 1932. 1932! That's a long time! There is also a small collection of Coke bottles from throughout the ages. Anyone remember Coca Cola Black? They also have a bottle from a batch that was made for the Grand Old Opry. This, of course, spurred "Look! Something from Nashville! We're from Nashville!" Are we dorks? Yes. Do we care? No. All right, calm down, I'm getting to the food. Sadly, we had just eaten Thai food in Lexington, KY not too long ago, so I cannot tell you how good the sandwiches are. I can only tell you that they have them. I'm a little upset about that. However, 'just had Thai food' does not at all equal 'no room for dessert.' I'm pretty sure dessert has a separate compartment in the stomach. They do phosphates here, so I had to have one of those. I recommend the cherry coke. You can taste all of that real sugar they use. It is fantastic. I also recommend a plain old chocolate shake. Once you try it, you'll realize it is anything but plain. Chocolate. Shake. That's all you need to know (ok, so there are other flavors, and you can mix and match to your heart's content. I just like chocolate). Did I feel bad about all of this decadence? Nah. Calories don't count when you're on vacation. Now let's talk about the service. The people that work there are some of the nicest people I've ever met. We had a blast talking to them. If you feel like they aren't being attentive enough, ask yourself what you are doing wrong. I LOVE this place, and who knows when I'll be able to go back?
