average food. small portions. waiter wrote down one of our orders wrong and said repeatedly how busy he was and all the different jobs he had to that night. a good waiter would not say that to customers. probaly will not go back

The owners did a great job of improving the inside of the restaurant. There is no lingering smell of smoke and it appears very clean. The salsa was very good and not too watery like other Mexican restaurants. I tried the fajita burrito and it was delicious. The owner stated he can make items that aren't included on the menu at special request. I definitely look forward to coming back and trying other dishes!

We moved to the area in late June 2014. We were looking for great restraunts in this area, especially Mexican, as we'd been spoiled in Montgomery and Frederick Counties with awesome ones. We stumbled upon Serrano's. It's a total dive when you look at the decor, but the food and prices are excellent. We are regulars and love the chips and salsa, anything with seafood in it. The taco meat is greasy, so I've only had it once. My husband loves the tacos with the spicy sauces that accompany it. The drinks are delicious and priced reasonably. We've brought most of our family here and rave about it often. It's a great place for kids. Our 3 year old loves it and the owner even brings him toys to help keep him occupied. It's a great place when you can move past the outdated decor.

Mediocre food at cheap prices.... Honesty nothing wrong with this place, except a barely perceptible funky smell. It's a former dive bar, but they've done a good job of transforming it.... But, still a hint of stale smoke in the air. GREAT service! Average food....

Should have known better. When you see a taco salad on the menu for a "Mexican" restaurant, run like hell.

The food was good, prices are a good value. Needs updating and clean in of the interior.

Great service, great food, and awesome salsa! Also - big bonus points - the owners understand and support our constitutional rights!

This restaurant was a big disappointment. The food was so so but the service was lousy. I felt rushed from the moment I sat down. Didn't care for the spiders on the ceiling to much either. I won't be back.

The placed smelled of old smoke was very old smelling. Greeted by a bar immediately and felt dingey. The food tasted frozen and was bland and not good at all. I will not be back- EVER!!!! The staff was friendly, but it didn't make up for the tasteless food. Price??? Paid $30 for defrosted mush.

I have been to several nearby Mexican resturants, and Serrano's has the best tasting free chips and salsa I've ever had. The chips are thin and always served hot, making it easy to chow down. The salsa is definitley house made, it has the kick of fresh jalapenos and a hint of garlic. The dinner for two is great value, it costs approximately $20 for enough food to feed three people! They call it a dinner for two, but my girlfriend and I always end up asking for a box. Three tacos a la carte is another great value, because you still get to eat all the chips and salsa you can. The last great value I would like to share is that you can get pitchers of draft Dos Equis or Dos Equis Amber for a very modest price. Perfect for washing down chips and salsa!

The wait staff is OK, still in training for this new location otherwise all the staff was helpful, only 1 cook in the back currently from what we were told. If you're a plus size person you may find the booth seating to be too tight a fit, the place is a bit chilly inside so I'd recommend bringing in a jacket. They messed up my chicken fajita taco salad and brought me steak, the shell was burned (you can see, smell, and taste it was burned so I'm not sure why they'd send this out) so I sent it back, got it corrected and everything turned out perfect. I also got a frozen strawberry margarita which was $5 so that's a pretty decent price for this although it was more like a daiquiri given the glass it was served in and no salted rim. Mom loved the chips as they weren't overly salty, and the salsa was good (although if you don't like fresh cilantro then this won't be for you) and they can adjust the heat of the salsa if need be. I think the tomato's in it were probably canned since the salsa was super red in color and the sliced tomato on the entree's weren't nearly that red. So... how fresh can it be now? heh.

HUGE portions and good prices. There was 6 of us in our party so our food came out staggered. It was good though. I think I still prefer Viva but its nice to have options.

I have eaten here several times and the food is always very good. The staff is always very warm and welcoming. The owners are always appreciative of your business. I just wish they were open on Mondays.

A wonderful experience. The waitress was attentive and helpful and clearly proud of her place of employment. The food came out quick and was very tasty. The prices were reasonable for food and drinks. We had the two person sampler and neither my wife nor I left hungry.

Clean and great food. Carnittas burrito was excellent, just had a few bits of dried meat. Maybe the best free salsa I've had, just wished it wasn't straight out of the fridge cold. Wait staff friendly, was asked if I was ok 8 times by four different people. Wished the portions was a bit bigger, expected a portion of that to be for lunch and not dinner.

Not impressed. Cheese was not melted in my enchiladas, chips were stale, beans aren't the refried beans you usually get at a Mexican restaurant. Our waiter was friendly and attentive, however we won't be coming back.

First time here. Waitress very attentive, kind. Food was good. We got the meal for two. Lots of basic entrees to sample. Good price. Only negative was that they were out of the fried cheesecake. So hubby tried flan and loved it! Will def go again

My new FAVORITE Restaurant! Found Surrano's while riding down Rt 11 in WV and stopped in a couple weeks ago. The steak fajita burrito and it was awesome. My boyfriend had a burrito with mexican sausage in it which was also great. We've stopped in a few time already since our first visit and crave this place until the next time. Rick (owner) is always friendly and the wait staff too. The food is fresh and flavor is the best...chips and salsa are great and the margaritas supurb! Prices are great too! I would highly recommend checking this place out.

Average Americanized Mexican food. No difference than Viva and Las Trancas. It seems the portion sizes are smaller though. Service was so so. The owner seemed very nice.

Dreadful food! I never before knew there was such a thing as instant powdered cheese. It was all over and through our meal, sort of slimy, watery milky-white and provided a horrible after-taste. I love Mexican food, go to Mexico several times a year, and live on the West Coast where we have excellent Mexican restaurants. This experience at Serrano was mind-bogglingly bad. How do they stay in business, even in Darksville WV? Never again! In contrast, there's a truly excellent place only a couple of miles down the road in Inwood - Viva Mexico!

La comida es increíble! Went tonight before the dinner rush and we were lucky enough to find a fairly empty restaurant(but by the time we left there were only a couple tables left) and were sat right away! Salsa is some of the best I've had(and contrary to a previous poster, they are required by the Health Dept to keep the salsa refrigerated) and they have several "heat levels" of salsa!!! Don't be scared to ask for the habanero salsa! Everything looked great but went with one of the burrito specialties! It was overstuffed with steak, rice and veggies topped with queso blanco(white cheese sauce) and pico de gallo. Our server happened to be the owner and was very accommodating and knowledgeable . I can't believe I waited 7 months to finally give them a try! If you go on a Fri or Sat night call ahead and make a reservation as you could be waiting for a table! There is a full bar with seating if you're looking for drinks and/or a great margarita! Go here, you won't be disappointed!

Good to see that the Mezcal in Martinsburg has not totally gone MIA...it's actually gone south... down Rt. 11 (thanks to the other reviewer [Armando] for spreading the news on the Mezcal review page). Same menu, same great food - only difference is the new location is much nicer and spread out. The other place was a bit claustrophobic, especially when people started packing in. Nice friendly service as always. We went in the third night it was open for business and the crowds picked up during the 1 hour or so we were there. It's easy to miss when you're cruising down Rt. 11, so don't go too fast or you might miss it. My fave so far? The Tacos al pastor. Good stuff!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
