I try not to judge a book by its cover when a restaurant is in an urban area ... it may look seedy but its "downtown," you know? Oh if only ... On our way to our table I noticed the carpet was filthy ... we were seated at an unlevel table ... reseated right outside the kitchen at the worst table in the place, I'm sure. Wait staff was great, very attentive and helpful. Noticed a bulb was burned out of the main light source, okay not a big deal ... but the rest of that same light source kept flickering ... am I a character in a foreign B-movie & I just don't know it?? Won Ton soup made with beef broth and the dumplings were so hard I had to cut them with a knife & fork! Egg roll tasted like it had been deep fried once before and tossed back in to get it hot, nothing in it but cabbage. [What was I thinking!] Ordered Crispy Duck. That was the nastiest looking "food" I have ever seen. I took one bite of it and had to send it back. Reordered Sesame Chicken which tasted okay but ... "where's the sesame"? Sushi coming out looked great; everyone at the hibachi tables in the back making ooh ahh noises at the table chefs so at least the table chefs put on a good show. Such a disappointment! I will not go back & I highly suggest you steer clear of the place. :-(

Love the food and wait staff here. Good sized portions and quality asian cuisine. You can't go wrong with TOA or Hibachi up the street. Just take your pick.

Nice ambient atmosphere . I orderd the general tso and its hard to please me but it passed with flying colors. The food was great , the right proportions and the right taste . Parking is a bit of a problem ( although 25 cents in the parking meter gives you one hour!)

Great alcohol, great presentation, subpar food at a high price. The Super China Buffet in Ashland (not Barboursville) has much higher quality sushi than what they offer.

  • Brittaney J.

Not as good as Hibachi the next street up. Still good food though. I've only eaten at the hibachi grills there not just the Chinese part. The sushi is really amazing though! It's a little on the pricey side. About $70 for two people with alcohol.

Basically ruined my Mother's Day. The waitress was totally I knowledgable about the menu items. They don't have a kids menu so I asked that they make a side of fried rice with pineapples and tofu for my 1 year old and she said no until I asked for a manger. Even though we got simple dishes we waited an hour and still no food so we walked out. I hate this town and the crap service. Would give 0 stars if I could.

I love to sit at the bar and eat sushi during the lunch hour. Sushi is fresh and well presented. Excellent! Friendly, attentive staff. I also enjoy the panang curry chicken (just the right level of spice), hot and sour soup, and the General Tso's chicken.

I only eat at Taste of Asia for the sushi, which this restraunt does much, much better than the other 2 sushi places in the Huntington area. However, out of the 4 times in the last 2 months ive ordered sushi, I've had to send something back. I have been brought yellow ikura and frozen salmon sashimi, both, on more than one occasion. However, I give Taste of Asia 4 stars because the management is excellent, as the restraunt is not hesitant to replace, or remove unacceptable items from the bill.

I always come here for sushi. Best in town. Chinese food is always piping hot and delicious! Speedy service and friendly waitstaff.

Ever heard the phrase "Jack of all trades, master of none?" Well that describes this place to a T. It's one of those "Pan-Asian" places that tries to serve up a bunch of different cuisines and ends up getting none of them really right. Before Thai house opened (incidentally that's the place to go for Thai in Huntington, no question) this was the only place for Thai in Huntington. It was OK, but bland bland bland. Even when I ordered it Thai Hot, it was not hot at all. And it all sort of tasted the same. I couldn't figure out why. In order to get it to come out hot enough, I finally had to tell the server (and this is very nearly verbatim): "I want that hot. I don't mean a little hot. I mean hotter than Thai hot. I mean hot hot hot so hot that you can't believe a human being could possibly eat it, I'm-not-kidding, hot." I finally got it hot enough. I also garnered a small crowd of rubber-necking cooks and servers who came out and stood a few feet away to see if I was really eating the stuff (I was). I couldn't figure out why I'd had such a hard time getting this particular dish, which is SUPPOSED to be fiery hot, to actually be served to me fiery hot. This is when I found out Taste of Asia's dirty little secret - the truth of the matter is, as I found out from an employee who worked in the kitchen and came over to talk to me, that the Thai food is made with locally purchased veggies (and meat if it includes any of that) - but the sauces and spices are prepackaged foil packets. My guess is to get it hot enough somebody stood back there with a bottle of Sriracha sauce, squirting half the contents in with the gravy out of the packet. No wonder this stuff had been tasting so bland, and every Thai dish tasted the same. Service in there was never very good, but I have to say the worst service I ever didn't get was the time my waitress decided her best bet was to suck up to the 5 guys across the room from me, and the 2 guys sitting at a table across the aisle from me. She totally ignored me - I couldn't even get her to take my order, and having taken the order, she didn't bring it out until it was definitely cooling off (eg had been sitting for awhile). Then she never brought me my tea. I finally quit trying to get her attention (she LITERALLY ignored me while flashing her cleavage and giggling at her various male customers) and got up and chased someone down to get my missing food items and my missing tea. I HAD ordered some sake, but canceled the order as by now it would have been warmer than my actual food (assuming someone besides "my" waitress had brought it out in a timely fashion). Service there was never good, but I have to say that's the worst service I've EVER had. When I first started going there they had a fairly diverse menu with a lot of choices, but shortly before I quit going there, they cut the menu drastically, removing most of my favorite noodle dishes and leaving only a handful of items on the menu I cared for anymore. All in all: Service: poor to execrable Selection: ended up being meh Quality: Also meh Atmosphere/Decor: almost overwhelming in it's attempts to look upscale, and I mean that in the sense that it was annoying, not impressive. Cost: VERY expensive, especially for that area of the country.

I made a reservation for two university groups to have 35 people eat hibachi on a Monday night. Because of the large group, the place agreed to sit us after closing and all of this was confirmed (and appreciated on the part of the restaurant). 15 minutes before the arrival of the large group, I called to let the staff know we were on our way. No one answered nor tried to contact me. I arrived in a car 5 minutes ahead of our scheduled time to find a staff member out front who told me they were closing. He acknowledged that I reserved for 35 people but simply said they would not stay open. Simply put, with no communication to me, they closed the restaurant after having made our reservation for a large party.I was stuck and left to find a way to feed a bus full of people on a late Monday night. If they did not want our group, I wish that they never would have excitedly confirmed a large party reservation with me days before. I have NEVER had anything like this happen before and cannot believe that a restaurant would cancel a $1000+ party of 35 reservation on me with NO NOTICE and NO APOLOGY. When our university group returns in the future I will not consider going to a restaurant that clearly does not care about its customers. I don't care if the food is amazing...I find this restaurant's behavior simply appalling and would never recommend a large group to EVER consider booking a party there.

overall great place. For Huntington best Asian restaurant around. Sushi Bar B Bar A look for Brandi excellent bartender can get crowded by Huntingtonians on a Saturday night. So, we've eaten at here before and the Thai food is good. Usually get the green curry with seafood-spiciness is always good, but it used to be better quality seafood. It used to have shrimp, calamari, mussels, and scallops. Went there last night as I was craving the curry again-however this time, it was straight gross. Mostly zucchini and peppers, 2 mussles, 3 shrimp, and fake Krab meat. Seriously, it was the fake stuff you buy at the store. No calamari.I ate the shrimp and mussels and left it.

Taste of Asia has awesome Thai Curry. Obviously they're competing with Thai House across the street, and for the curry I think TOA wins. The sushi is also delicious. The pad Thai is better across the street. The service here is decent.. And when I've gone with 4 or fewer people I've never had to wait.

  • Matthew K.

Taste of Asia is simply wonderful. They have the best calamari I have ever experienced. All of the meals come out looking so pretty that it feels like a crime to eat them. I have not had a bad experience here. Highly recommended if you want something a step up from Chinese buffets.

  • Shane E.

First trip to ToA tonight. Reservation for 7:30. Seated at 8:40. The hibachi experience makes up for the wait. The food was pretty much as advertised and not too costly. Good selection to choose from even if steak is not your thing. Fun night out just don't expect to be blown away by the steak and/or chicken hibachi entrees.

  • Kim L.

This a good restaurant if you are with a group who all want oriental food, but one wants Chinese, one Thai and Japanese. I usually get the shasmi and it's good. My husband loves the Thai Curry. There are hibachi tables great for a party. It's not cheap so bring your credit card, but it's worth it.

    (4)
  • Jennifer S.

The prices are somewhat high, but menu offerings provide alot of variety so it's a great place for large groups of people who all want either Thai or Japanese type of fare. They have a plum sake that is best served hot and the curries are delicious and enough for two people, but you'll want to get extra rice if sharing. They offer seating in the hibachi section, or the front part of the restaurant, or even at the small bar up near the entryway. Great for dinner with friends/family or even date nights!!

    (4)
  • Andrea B.

The best thing about this restaurant is the variety; it is the only place in town to get anything other than Japanese or Chinese food (at least that I'm aware of). The sushi is better than at Hibachi, and the dinners are good as well. I've had a wide range of the appetizers and they are all very good. The only down side is the price- it is a bit expensive (as all sushi places are). For us it is a once a month to once every two months deal- a nice treat but we can't afford it every day.

    (4)
  • Peter D.

Even though there's a large number of hibachi resturants around this small town, this place has a nice flair to the hibachi experience (something to do with getting sake fired into your mouth if you actually catch the shrimp with your mouth). Thus is also one of the only places around to get Thai food and I'm surely a fan of the panang curry!

    (4)
  • Christie B.

This little place is excellent. The food is great. The services are great. And the prices are great. They sort of have every Asian type of food you could ask for. They have sushi, thai, and chinese dishes. Everything is really good. I've had the green curry and thai basil. Both are excellent. I also love the portions. Not too big and not too small. Not as big as Cheesecake Factor but not as small as a more "5 star" restaurant. The service is also quick and efficient. The wait staff has been patient with our tables which have both been over 6 people each time that I've went. Also the prices are great especially for everything you're getting!! Give it a shot!

I like Taste of Asia and it is good option for asian food in the area. However it is expensive and honestly the sushi is not that much better than the sushi at the Chinese buffet near the mall or the Kroger in Barboursville. Their fried calamari is especially tasty. The restaurant is really pretty middle of the road in general, but it is a good option if you are in Huntington.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
