This restaurant is dirty looking. Its like stepping into an aged dirty picture of a restaurant from the 80's. The service is beyond terrible, plan to wait, and wait, oh ya and wait. By the time I get my food I'm so tired of waiting looking at this dingy place that I have lost my appetite. Before you think, maybe you have been on an off day, know I have been at least half a dozen times and each time is the same.

The biscuits and gravy are amazing, huge portions. The restaurant itself has always been clean and the wait staff friendly. Always seems like a local favorite and our favorite local stop.

Service is horrible. I've been here on several occasions and the service is always slow. It's a seat yourself restaurant, which wouldn't be a problem if you were willing to clear the table from the patrons before you. There were more empty dirty tables than there were tables with people and clean tables combined. Our salads came with our food, no silverware. The food was okay...edible and reasonably priced.

The wife and I have had breakfast here several times and been pleased each time. Today we stopped in and had the special. BIG mistake, looked and tasted like a hungry man dinner. Do not order the chopped sirloin dinner. Everything is heat and serve.

From the outset four stars seems generous, right? I thought so myself when I designated that fourth star. I attended a continuing education seminar in the sleepy, interstate adjacent hamlet of Flatwoods. When the lunch break rolled around I asked an attendant at the conference center about dining options. She shrugged and offered that locals enjoy The Waffle Hut. The choices for dining are limited: Subway, McDonald's, Arby's, and a generic looking family owned Mexican joint. The Waffle Hut it is. Proximity to the conference center was a bonus. Let's touch on the negatives. The exterior is dated. The bathroom seems to predate the exterior. How is that even possible? The floors were littered with the cast offs from toddler's breakfast plates. I'm glad that's out of the way- we can move on to the positives. The waitress was friendly, and as well worn as the carpeting. My friend and I chose Western omelettes- American cheese, ham, peppers, and onions encased in three perfectly browned eggs. Hashbrowns came on the side with hearty wheat toast. This omelette was delicious: cheesy; well seasoned; and teeming with ham, peppers, and onions. The hashbrowns were a nice addition. The quality of the food overshadowed the shabby decor, disrepair, and lack of attention to cleanliness. The only regret I have is that I did not order a waffle. A waffle was carried past my table and its delicious aroma wafted... Let's just say Leslie Knope would have shed a tear. Thank you Waffle Hut for a delicious meal.

This is where locals hang out. I like that about this place. Unfortunately, not being local, we didn't get much attention from wait staff. That's my primary complaint about the joint. Like other reviews pointed out, they seemed slow to clear tables--although when we visited there were a ton of cleared tables... I could see how if you're short on staff (or they're chatting with the high school kids) tables may not get bussed very promptly. The food was acceptable. It wasn't great, but the portions are generous and calories are calories.

Typical diner fare. The service was okay. The rush must vary. Every table was covered with the remains of someone's meal, but there was hardly anyone there.

A Braxton County institution. Waffle Hut offers sandwiches and home-cooked dinners, homemade pies, and of course, breakfast 'round the clock. A haven for late nighters, its one of the only places to eat in Braxton County after midnight. Nothing special about the menu, but everything is tasty and good.
