As a visiting vegan, I find it hard to go out to eat in Fairmont, but after a little research I gave Murials a try. The staff was the most helpful I've come across in a long time, and my server and the manager were more than willing to check ingredients and make recommendations. Just based on this, I give it five starts. Most of their pastas are egg free, as is their table bread. All in all, I left full.

This place is absolutely fantastic! Thank you fellow yelpers for the tip. We were seated and meet Bailey our server. What a pleasure to deal with and gave exceptional service. And the food! Oh man the food!! Huge portions of awesome food for a very reasonable price. Even the manager Mindy came by to say hello as she heard it was our first time there. I would most definitely recommend a try!

My favorite is the steak hoagie platter. Unfortunately that platter is an additional $8 to the price of the hoagie. Eight dollars for French fries and a side salad. Eight dollars. The hoagie by itself is around 8 dollars, so with a coke to drink your lunch is going to cost you 20 bucks. As much as I like fries with my sandwich, I can't bring myself to be extorted for the pleasure. Thankfully Colosessano's up the street has an excellent hoagie selection that comes with fries and a salad that didn't require a second mortgage.

Friendly, attentive, timely service. Excellent food..i believe you only need try marinara with pasta to judge an Italian spot and this was dead on. Delish..loved the house made Italian dressing as well. Next time I'm in the area, you'll find me there!

Love the spaghetti with a caesar salad. When with a bigger group there are plenty of appetizers to consider. The cheese bread and pizza are both very good. Probably my favorite sit down restaurant in an area of great Italian food. Service is always professional and prompt.

The best lasagna! Great service and ambiance. Large portions of deliciousness. I also like their raspberry vinegarette. Reasonable prices.

For the last decade or so this amazing location has been the go-to for an annual lunch with a co-worker. From the beautifully presented appetisers to the from scratch traditional pasta entrees, Muriales checks every box for a lovely dining experience. Molto beni!

My family and I have enjoyed dining at Muriale's for the past 7 years. We have yet to be disappointed by the service or the food. We have dined all over the US and parts of Europe. I would put this restaurant against some of the best. I'm always proud to take our guest to Muriale's for a delightful dining experience.

Was passing through town looking for some great food and found it. The bread was great and the salad was among the best I have had. I highly recommend the house dressing. My wife had Tuscan spaghetti with mushrooms and she loved it. I had spaghetti and meatballs which were incredible. The ambiance was casual and made this a great place to bring a family or go on a date. The service was excellent and the staff was very attentive. The menu had lots of variety: pizza, grilled salmon, flatbread sandwiches, just to name a few items. The tiramisu was also great. If we had this place back at home we would go there alot.

I have lived in Las Vegas for 3 years, but am a WV ex-pat. I have access to some of the finest Italian chefs in the country, the freshest ingredients, yadda yadda yadda. I say this to preface my next statement: Muriale's is the best Italian food I have ever had. We plan our trips back to WV so that we are driving thru Fairmont for lunch or dinner. The quality of the food, the freshness, the service...consistently exceeds expectations. Our experience today was no exception. Since my last visit in May 2013, I have fixated on Aunt Mary's Lasagna. If I had to choose a last meal, that would be it. I met some friends for dinner, we were seated promptly, offered drinks, appetizers, etc. we ordered and almost immediately received our salads - have the house dressing! Next our meals came quickly, as soon as our empty salad plates were collected. I had lasagna, with a meatball on the side, and some hot Oliverio peppers - because like Muriale's lasagna, Oliverio peppers have no equivalent. Go with a game plan, the lasagna serving is hefty and the dessert tray is impressive. With this in mind, I left half my lasagna and had dessert -cannoli (order of 2) and I took one of those to go also. The chocolate cake and pb pie are also good choices. Basically, if they brought you out paper with whipped cream, it would be delicious. I left with a full belly, a doggie bag "for lunch tomorrow" (aka later tonight), and something to dream about until my next trip to the Mountain State.

Solid place to go for good Italian cooking. I had a combo plate of lasagna and gnocchi. Loved then both and there was a very generous helping so I got to enjoy it again the next day for lunch. Also, the decor is warm and inviting. Beautiful wood beams across the ceiling, faux stucco wall paint, and Italian theme artwork. Great place to bring family. Staff are very attentive and try to anticipate your needs. I highly recommend it.

  • Robin B.

Always good food, always good service. My husband gets the taste of Italy, and I love the gnocchi... The food is consistently awesome and the staff always seems very pleasant and prompt. We recommend it to friends or even perfect strangers any chance we get!

So I judge every Italian restaurant by their marinara sauce. Don't hand me a sweet based marinara. Muriale's nails it. On the salty side and a tad greasy just the way I like it. I love the house salad that comes with the entrees. So tasty with house dressing and touches of pepperoni, roasted red peppers, and pickled onion. For dinner we rarely stray from our favorites: lasagna and meatball casserole. Hands down our favorite Italian restaurant! Too bad we don't live closer to it.

I have been coming to Murial's for about 7 years and it's the best authentic italian restaurant ever! We travel every few months from Lewisburg WV which is over 3 hours away just to eat here. Definitely old school with great staff that will make you feel at home. A true family place to go and a true gem in the state of West Virginia .

I went here today for the first time after hearing everyone raving about it. The decor is very friendly and warm, as is the atmosphere. At three o clock, there was barely anyone in there. All of the waiters and waitress we passed were polite, saying hi and acknowledging us. We were seated as soon as we walked in the door. I do have to say I was not very impressed with the menu (the printed one). I am not much of a meat or marinara girl, so when I saw they didn't have alfredo, I was really bummed out. Much to my suprise, the wonderful waitress we had informed us that there were many options that weren't on the menu- alfredo being one of them! If you don't see your favourite sauce, they probably have it, don't be too shy to ask. For my entree, I went with gnocchi in alfredo sauce which came with a salad (I opted for Caesar) and bread. The bread was thinly sliced and warm. It had a great flavor and I may have eaten the whole basket on my own. The salad came out and it was alright. The croutons were minute, the dressing was on the heavier side, and the romaine was room temperature. The gnocchi was the most interesting. The alfredo sauce was delicious, not the bland stuff from olive garden. It had a subtle citrus flavour that I really loved that made the sauce nice and light tasting. The gnocchi itself was kind of dense and heavy, but tasty nonetheless. After our meal was finished, our waitress brought out the dessert platter. Seeing a delicious looking lemon and blueberry cake with a mascarpone filling bent my willpower and I got a slice. It was wonderful. Light, flavorful, delicious. The cake was moist, the mascarpone was done beautifully, and I was not disappointed. The prices are pretty steep. That's a big downside. It was about 20$ a person for a pasta dish entree. I will definitely be returning.

We had our wedding party's rehearsal dinner here - in 1987!! The place was great then and it still is one of my all-time favorites. The serving staff - usually local college students - bust their ass to make things right 100% This place is an old-time classic Italian joint. Enjoy it!

  • Bill Z.

Food is pretty average and super expensive for Italian food. And $6.00 for a bottle of Corona is ridiculous. Won't be my first choice. It must be the only game in town in Fairmont 'cause the place was packed.

    (3)
  • Jessica S.

The food is bland and the minestrone soup is greasy. I have been here 4 times and have yet to enjoy a single meal here... I don't understand the hype, maybe it's the lack of a good restaraunt in the area. I like Italian food but am unimpressed with the restaraunt. It's expensive toboot. Save your money and go some where else.

I had a great lunch experience at Muriale's. I ordered one of the specials- the shrimp diavolo and thought it was absolutely wonderful. There were a sufficient number of good-sized shrimp for the dish, the pasta was cooked to perfection and most importantly (for me, at least), the dish was actually spicy. I have had many a "diavolo" dish at an Italian restaurant that totally lacked the promised spice. I found this dish to have an average level of spice to it, which did not overpower the other flavors of the dish. My food arrived quickly, which was exactly what I needed and expected of a place serving lunch and I was out the door in well under an hour. I hope to one day try dinner at Muriale's.

I took eleven family members to Muriale's yesterday for a birthday dinner for one of the family. I made reservations for 6:15. When I arrived everything was set up for us. The hostess who greeted me was very pleasant and asked how to pronounce my name. We were assigned a single server named Jaime. I was concerned whether one person would be able to handle the group. But as the night went on Jaime rose to the occasion and did an outstanding job of taking care of our group. The food was absolutely great. Not one person had anything negative to say about the food. The portions were quite large. Most of the folks took some home with them. For me, it was some of the best, if not the best, Italian food I've had. It is much better than another Italian restaurant in another town in the area that I thought was really good. I would certainly recommend this place to anyone who wants authentic Italian food. And if I ever am in the area in the future I would certainly return.

We went to lunch here at a recommendation of a local. It was delicious! We all got the lunch pasta special which comes with bread, salad and pasta of your choice for $9. The portions were generous and the food was so fresh. The bread tasted homemade and it was warm. The house dressing on the salad was perfect. The manicotti with meat sauce was so flavorful. For dessert we got the homemade butter pecan ice cream at the recommendation of our server, Jenna. I would make a special stop here again.

New to the area I've been on the search for decent Italian food! Muriale's is the best in the area. Even just the simple spaghetti and meatballs meal is delicious. The side salads actual have substance with roasted red peppers, cheese, etc. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. The only thing that confuses me is that there is always a wait (even later on a Tuesday night), move those big decorative tables out of the way and put seating tables! All and all, this Pittsburgh girl found her favorite Italian place in her new home.

Visiting from NY and found this place. Didn't think we could find something this good. Friendly staff. Great service. Great food. Will visit again.

I have not been back to Muriale's in quite some time due to the fact that I am now gluten free and there are usually no options for me at a down-home Italian place. However, I was gleefully surprised to see there are many gluten-free options now at Muriale's, including delicious gluten-free pasta! They are educated in the fact that it needs to be cooked in a separate pot with fresh water, also, which was very refreshing. I got the Hot Sausage platter with hot and sweet peppers, on top of GF spaghetti. Their sausage is obviously GF as well, but keep in mind that the meatballs have breadcrumbs in them, most likely! The portion was huge and I took half of it home for dinner later. I can safely say that this is the best restaurant in Fairmont and it is worth the trip from Morgantown and surrounding areas as well. I will definitely be back for my pasta fix!

Really good mushroom pasta & raviolis. Great to have a good restaurant to go to in Fairmont when visiting family. Very large space so plenty of tables. Also nice location on the river.

We were traveling through WV and saw Muriel's listed in AAA Travel. We took chance decided to eat dinner there! What a find! This was some of the best Italian food I have had. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a great meal!

Quite a nice place actually. Reasonable prices with many selections resulting in a good value makes this a winner. Family friendly and attentive staff. Everything our party of nine ordered was excellent. Gluten free options including pasta and generally allergy friendly ( a relatively recent change). Many selections on the dessert tray. This place is busy on weekends and only accepts reservations for 8 or more, so plan accordingly. Since this is very near I-79 this makes an excellent stop for travelers.

While in the area for business, this restaurant was recommended. It was very good. The service was great and the food matched. We shared the house made sausage and peppers for an appetizer. It was very good with the crusty bread. The red sauce is very rich and creamy...and tasty. Each person in our party had a different dish and everyone was very pleased. The atmosphere is quiet. We really enjoyed the experience.

I found out on my trip to WV that Fairmont and that area has a really big Italian population! So my Jersey girl butt felt right at home. :) We went for a post-rainy-football game meal at Muriale's. Our table of five had a variety of dishes, I had the calamari and Sicilian spaghetti. The calamari was cool. Our waiter kept telling us he would bring the appetizer in a minute and 10 minutes later it was put on our table. Clearly, it had sat the whole time. Rather than hold up the whole operation (they seemed to be holding off on bringing the salads out until the appetizer was finished) we sucked it up. The calamari were actually very good! Tasty, not chewy at all and served with delicious marinara and tartar sauce. If they'd been piping hot, they would have been better but they were certainly edible. My Sicilian spaghetti was served with mushrooms, garlic, oil and cheese. I'm a white pasta kind of gal so this was perfect. TONS of mushrooms and a mountain of delicious, perfectly cooked pasta. I tried a little of the hot sausage rigatoni too and the tomato sauce is really good as well. And they weren't kidding about the "hot". It made T's mouth tingle and he's immune to most spices. The dessert tray looked delicious but we didn't partake. Maybe if we go to a game next year we'll leave room. :)

Best Italian food in the area. Service is always prompt and friendly. I've never had anything off their menu that left me disappointed or still hungry. I would recommend to anyone passing through Fairmont to stop at Muriales!

  • Rosalie R.

Thank (insert deity here) for this place. If it weren't for Muriale's I would have gone hungry on a recent business trip to Fairmont. I find it funny that no one from Fairmont wrote a review for Muriale's. Either those people haven't yet been introduced to Yelp, or those buggers are keeping this place a secret. Some of the high points were perfectly cooked pasta, tasty sauce, rigatoni shaped the "old way" - flat. I agree with Justin P., no surprises here but the best place to go for a hearty pasta dinner if you find yourself in Fairmont.

    (4)
  • Susan B.

While I'm not currently a resident of Fairmont, I was for several years and still frequent the place to visit the in-laws a couple of times a year. In regards to Rosalie's review, it's probably a mix (not a lot of Yelping going on in Fairmont) but more likely the latter, the residents of Fairmont are keeping Muriale's all to themselves. Muriale's IS a local legend, and it has always lived up to it's reputation. The portions are always generous and staff is always professional and friendly. I've been to many a lunch, dinner, and office party at Muriale's and have never been disappointed. We make a visit to Muriale's just about every time we're in town visiting. Just writing this review is making me hungry for their spaghetti & meatballs. Mmmmmm.

  • Michael B.

This restaurant is a must whenever I visit my son and daughter-in-law. I usually get the tour of Italy - a combination of ravioli, lasagna, rigatoni, and a meatball. Come hungry because the portions are plentiful.

Since this one has been reviewed I'll give it a brief once over on our recent visit of 3/21/10. We got lost coming back from a ski-trip (GPS went dead - no map lol) and wound up taking an exit into Fairmont WV and thought we'd take a stab at this place for a late lunch. First it is huge - I take it they get very busy but at 3:30pm on a Sunday they were not. It looks like a decent end mom & pop type italian joint and I think that is exactly what it is. I had never been to Fairmont so I can't speak to the dining demographic. The staff was very friendly from the front door hosts to the wait staff. There were far more wait staff than patrons at that time so our waitress was particuarly over-attentive. She was a bit robotic as well - I don't think she really cared if we were happy or not - one of those types (really young for one thing). I wanted to check out the 'homemade' sausage that appeared to be popular item and my wife got the meatball sandwich. Everything we got was fine - and absolutely bathed in their house marinara - I'm not sure if they make that in house or not however. It had an almost pizza-hut quality to me. Service as I said was mediocre - it wasn't bad it just wasn't very genuine. She probably complained that she only got 15% after we left. We may never set foot in Fairmont WV again in our lives and I will probably forget this place even existed in a few weeks. We were starving - it was there - and it wasn't bad - I don't know about 'A-OK' - maybe 'B-OK'... ;) Not humbly yours, D. FoodSnob, MD.

Muriale's is a local legend, and given its reputation, it could only have disappointed. It did not. The food is simply amazing - home cooked and served in ample portions. If you leave Muriale's hungry, I commend your appetite. This doesn't meant that quality is sacrificed. Rather, most things are home cooked and the service was attentive but not overbearing. Dessert was great, too....I had two canolis, and while not the caliber of Boston's Little Italy, they are about as close as you can get in West Virginia. I will definitely be planning a return visit.

Homemade sausages were excellent and made excellent leftovers the next day. ordered desert even though I didn't have room and it was also excellent.

  • Jarrett S.

Very unimpressed. Bland and rubbery calamari was not a good start. I ordered linguine with clams in a white sauce. There was virtually no sauce and the clams looked like the aftermath of a biology experiment. I suspect nothing is made fresh here. The meatballs were decent. Shocked this place had such good reviews.

  • Marlene C.

We didn't eat in this time. We got take-out. We ordered just a pizza and it was THE BOMB!! I love their pizza sauce and it always tastes great the next day too. 10 slices per pizza. They are a bit pricey, but worth every penny in my book.

  • Aggie P.

Great atmosphere and interesting decor. The stuff is friendly and especially attentive. The best house salad with an entree. I loved the cheese ravioli, the meat ravioli was good too, although I'm not usually a fan of ground meat. The desserts look spectacular, and there's definitely an emphasis on presentation. The chocolate lava cake is absolutely to die for!

We live almost 70 miles away, but when I ask my wife where she wants to eat, she always wants Muriales. And we get in the car and go. It is very good Italian food. The restaruant's atmosphere is sophisticated without being snooty. You're eating in a place with class, but you can still walk in in shorts and a tee shirt. Many of the pictures on the wall are an homage to the history of North Central West Virginia, which makes for a cool environment. The food is amazing. I'm a meat and potatoes guy, but the salad with Ranch dressing even appeals to me. Is that dressing made on-site? Wow, it's really good. I always get something with Italian sausage and peppers and I'm never disappointed. My wife orders a variety, including spaghetti and meat balls, Sicilian spaghetti, subs and sandwiches, etc. All top notch. Rocco Muriale takes pride in his restaurant and is very visible, often coming out to ask patrons how they like their food. I've only said hello to him, but he seems like a great guy. North Central WV is known for it's Italian heritage, and I have to say that Muriales carries the torch better than anyone. You won't be disappointed.

During my visit to fairmont when moving my daughter into school, my wife and I had lunch. Never thought I would come across great Italian god in Fairmont West Virginia. I'm italian ! Grew up in New Jersey in an Italian household and the sauce or gravy as we call it was fantastic. The service was great, the atmosphere was genuine! Highly recommend. Can't wait to visit my daughter again this fall.

It is alright, but nothing special I feel it is over hyped.

I just wanted to say that Muriales redeemed themselves this weekend. The owner asked me to give them another chance and I feel he made up for the visit before. We had a great server and the food was very good. I do feel some items are a little overpriced, such as the cheesesticks, but it was a good meal. One thing I do wonder about is a policy I heard they at least had before. I've heard that the servers have to pool their tips and then have them divided up. I really hope this is not true because some servers obviously do not deserve as much in tips as other servers. If they did, this whole incident wouldn't have happened. Rocco, if it is true, you should change that.

About Papa Murphy

Papa Murphy is one of the top pizza chains in the United States. Papa Murphy was formed after the merger of two popular local pizzerias namely Papa Aldo's and Murphy's respectively. The trend of "take and bake" pizzerias gained popularity in the United States during the early 90s. The growing popularity these two take and bake pizzerias located in Hillsboro, Oregon and Petaluma, California respectively gave the idea of a possible merger to Terry Collins.

In 1995, Terry Collins consolidated the merger and founded Papa Murphy and expanded the pizza chain across 1300 outlets in the United States and Canada. Customers can relish Papa Murphy pizzas by simply walking into the nearby Papa Murphy outlet or simply order online or call-in to pick up the order later. Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
