Rio Bravo II, South Charleston WV. Authentic Mexican food at very reasonable prices. I had the beef fajitas, and my dad had the Beef & Chicken burritos. To start off the tortilla chips were warm, and fresh. Salsa had a decent heat, and a decent flavor. The guacamole was a little processed, but I doubt they can get good avocados here this time of the year, but I won't drop points for that. On Mondays any beer is .99, I went on Sunday so damn... But, I still had two ice cold Coronas. The Portions were HUGE! The place was clean, including the rest rooms. Wait staff was courteous, and although everything seemed to be prepared fresh, it seemed like only five minutes before our meal was on the table. Fajitas were legendary. I'll be back on a Monday next time amigos. Oh, and if you have rug rats, today's special kids eat for .99! Do it, try this place if you like Mexican food. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Rio Bravo II is some tasty, cheap, and no frills Mexican. The setup is spacious and festive, with plenty of sombreros to go around. The booths are vinyl and squishy and the wood floors look like they've seen plenty of dance parties. Service is friendly but a little sporadic. Since so few tables were occupied the night I went, the guys would go about some other tasks in the back and would not be around for me to flag down. But they were chummy about me ordering in Spanish and being helpful about what they liked best on their menu, which reads like the Yellow Pages. As for the food, don't think about cilantro, fresh jalapeno, or frijoles. This place has a lot of refried beans and tomato puree. The food is better than average in terms of execution, but just had less fresh produce than I am used to in my Tex Mex. I ordered the chiles rellenos and soon after received a bath of warm tortilla chips and red salsa. The salsa was more tomato puree than anything else but adding some hot sauce made it pretty tasty regardless. The chiles were fried and stuffed and really tasty, and came with two warm tortillas. I didn't finish the rice and refried beans that came as a side - the dish was just so huge. On top of it all, the entire meal was incredibly cheap - less than $10. They also import several Mexican beers (but no Jarritos or Jumex). For corporate travelers, AMEX is okay.

This was an OK TexMex place, nothing knocked my socks off. Bona fides: I'm a native Houstonian, lived for years in Austin. I know TexMex. My go-to for determining a good Texmex place is their Carne Asada. That is a staple for those who ARE TexMex people, its what they eat when they are eating well. It should be the best dish on the menu. And the classic of TexMex home cooking is the pork tamale. The Carne Asada at Rio Bravo had a different, and not that pleasant, flavor. The tamale was way too big, lots of masa but little filling. And the rice was salty. Frijoles were very good, however. I don't live in Charleston, so it may be true that this is the best TexMex in town. But when I had to ask for refried beans as a substitute for their standard French fries with my Carne Asada, I knew something was off.

This is probably my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Charleston, WV area. The wait staff is incredibly friendly and their food is a step above the rest. I highly recommend their Chile Rellenos, as they are always a stunning full stuffed pepper, rather than at other places, where it's little bits of pepper chopped up in beef and cheese.

Possibly the best authentic/Texmex I've ever put in my mouth!! And that's comming from someone who spent the first 42 years of his life in Tx, so I've eaten a bit of Texmex in my time. You have to try the carnitas!! The staff is always pleasant and accomodating. If you're not counting callories try the Chori Pollo.... Can't wait to get back there!!

This Mexican is great, staff are friendly, and the 2.99 lunch special is an incredible deal. Highly recommended.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
