Excellent pizza and excellent crust. You can't go wrong with any choice.

Best pie in Chucktown! Fresh ingredients, put together well with a great beer selection make this the premier pizza place in town. The prices are good as is generally the service. Parking can be a real pain in the ass and the hipster douchebags that sit at the bar are a little off putting, but don't let that discourage you from the best pie in town.

The pizza is good, but i have to put 4 stars for the entire experience. The wait at 730pm on a friday was a grueling hour and a half. We were promised 1 hour and were all famished when that hour came and passed with no update in sight. Had we known we wouldnt be seated until after 9pm, we would have easily placed a to-go order, or headed downtown to the comparable if not better Pies n Pints pizza joint. When we were finally seated, the service was quick as if to be apologetic. We ordered 3 pizzas and the hands down best, by consensus, was the Hawaiian. Sausage and Onion was also good. The ingredients are high quality and the crust is thin but not overly crunchy. In short this seems like a great place to carry out. You aren't missing a lot of ambiance by not eating in, and its assuredly not worth a wait.

Great local alternative to Pie's and Pints...which is also somewhat local. My wife and I went here on date night after getting completely screwed by Vandala's. It was a toss up between those two and I'm glad it turned out the way it did because Lola's was great! Unlike Pie's and Pints the pizza's are a bit small and you can't really split the specialty pizza's so we both got a pizza. Pricing was great and they had a great selection of brews. At the servers recommendation I tried something from Rogue which was right on the money. The place has a definite hipster vibe to it, including the servers look, so feel free to wear whatever you like, even gym shorts on a Friday night. I had the Pesto Portobello and my wife had the Hawaiian Pizza. Both were good, service was awesome. The only complain I could have is it's a bit small and there can be a wait, and the parking lot was so crowded people were parking in places that weren't spots making it hard for us to get our mini van out...next time I'll back in.

Amazing place. I was visiting and located usin yelp. Got seated right away on a Friday evening at 7pm. AJ was GREAT - best service ever! The food was even better, local spot amazing food!

  • Christina D.

The atmosphere was great and the pizza and drinks were excellent. I can only give 4 stars because we waited almost 30 minutes for a table they told us would take 10-15, and after we placed our order it took over an hour to be served. I would eat here again- but I would take our servers recommendation to come during the week!

The pizza is good...just go early to avoid a wait. They are frequently out of selections but the sangria us very good. Usually a good beef selection. I love the salads...especially beet salad and fried goat cheese salad. It's tiny and the bathrooms are really close but takeout is delicious.

It's hard to find good pizza in Charleston. Lola's is pretty good but pricey. Cool local business and creative location. Good service.

Love anything with artichokes or blue chz on it.

Best pizza in Charleston. Ask for AJ. He'll hook you up! And don't forget to try the sangria and flourless chocolate cake. Yum!

This review is based on several visits over a period of about two years. When we stay overnight in Charleston this is our favorite spot for dinner. The pizza is great -- very creative and lots of variety/options. Thin crust. They do it well. The beer list is quite decent and the prices are fair. The wine list is OK, but the prices are high, I think. (Go for the beer!) The interior is, well, different. "Hipster," I guess. And, lots of tatoos walking about. They do a good job here -- and we'll be back! My rating is a "strong 4!"

Where do I begin? Let's start with the parking. We didn't have problems parking since we arrived before the dinner rush, however, if you are planning on arriving any time after say... 6, you will have problems parking. Inside you find a pretty cramped seating area. We were put in the tiny room to the left of the front door along with a party of about 12 loud women who were out celebrating either a baby shower or bachelorette party - I couldn't tell. Regardless, they were loud and that tiny room didn't help the noise level at all. I had difficulty hearing my wife talking to me across the table. Now, we are usually the ones worried about making too much noise at restaurants since we usually have all four kids in tow, but this room/group set the bar very high. I told my kids to not worry about talking too loud, no one would ever hear you. Ok, on the the food. Lola's has a decent selection of beer, including local brews - gold star for them for supporting local breweries! The wine list looked ok, a bit over priced per glass, but ok. A couple salads and small plate appetizers are available but we didn't try them, we were there for the pizza! Aaaaand we were let down. The crust was nice, but the edges were too done and burnt in places. Once past the edges though it had a nice flavor. Toppings were average - nothing special. Our service was pretty bad, we saw our waitress 4 times - when we arrived and ordered drinks and ordered, when she brought out pies, and when she brought our check and returned with the copy to sign. That's it. Since we no longer live in the area, we probably won't be back as there are better pizza places in Charleston.

The sweet potato salad was excellent. I liked the Hawaiian pizza just fine. Thanks people did not have straws for the glasses of water that they provided. The service wasn't great. Overall I was a little disappointed.

This a great pizza place in a old house the decor is perfect for the location. We found this place a bit off the beaten path by other reviews and it has really held up to the reviews. The staff is all very nice and friendly. Good selection of menu items and the ingredients are nice and fresh.

Even better than Pies & Pints! Lola's is set in what seems like somebody's house, which is substantiated by very homey-feeling service. The pizza itself is a little greasy but otherwise very delicious. I had the portabella pesto pizza (with pepperoni) and I loved how well the the different ingredients went together (especially the cheese, though I can't recall specifically what it was - ricotta maybe?). It's also worth noting that I usually hate mushrooms but they went perfectly on this pizza. One other menu item worth noting - the kale salad. It is perfectly dressed and has a bit of cheese for flavor, but still manages to be a very healthy and flavorful starter option.

Their parking is a pain in the rear, and I went on a slow day! That said, our server (RJ) was really great and the food was delicious. I got the goat cheese and artichoke and my husband got a steak and cheese. Mmmm. Really nice selection of beers as well and the cozy decor is great for date night. Oh, and try the creme brulee! It's really amazing.

In my opinion, the best restaurant in Charleston. We've been here many times, but never more than once a month. Still, several workers remember who we are & what we like. The wait can be long-ish on a busy night, especially if you've come in a group. The restaurant feels like a small house, so seating is limited. But they set up a charming front patio area where you can grab a drink from the bar & wait. I've never waited longer than it takes to finish one drink. Their drink selection is always good. They usually have a couple of drinks from Rogue brewing & Sierra Nevada. I usually go with the rogue good chit pilsner. They also have a wine selection that I haven't really delved into, but my gf switches between the red & white sangrias each time she goes. Both are good & very sweet. I start every meal here with the pan-seared goat cheese salad. That shit is amazeballs. It's not a lola's experience of you don't get that. All of the pies that I've tried here are great, but I'm sticking with the steak & cheese with jalapeños from now on. Make sure to ask for parmesan, they'll grate some off for you in a small bowl. I can just eat a bowl of that by itself.

This pizza place was located in a small house on a hill. The pizza was delicious and they had a good selection of beers. I highly recommend this place.

  • Neecie P.

Really good unique pizza for a really good price. The crust was crispy ... Love the roasted garlic. Not your typical franchise pizza place. Parking is a little sketchy. Get there early. My husband and I will be back.

  • Jeff D.

An excellent experience every time! The changing pizza combinations are well-thought out and well-prepared. Don't just get pepperoni, although very good, that's not the point of the place. The converted small house ambiance is excellent, but cramped. The bar is in the first room and has filled up with wall-to-wall people at times, making it hard to pay the bill and get to the exit. I agree with Luther F.'s review - MUCH better than Pies & Pints. Arrive early or you will have to stand around on the yard/gravel lot. Waiting in the rain? Sorry, once the porch fills up you're wet. Bottom Line: the food trumps all - excellent pizza.

My family was driving through Charleston and were looking for a place to eat around the city. We found Lola's on a quick Google search and decided to check it out. We were very pleasantly surprised to find this nice little restaurant. Everybody working there was extremely nice and friendly. The pizza was top notch and delicious and we enjoyed every bite. It was a very clean and the decoration was very nice. They messed up on my mom's pizza, but they quickly brought out another pizza along with a free beer for her! They gave us the pizza for free as well. We were very pleased with the experience and the food was great!

I had 2 salads. The strawberry spinach and the goat cheese salad. They were decent portions with the dressings on the side. They tasted fresh and crisp. I also had 2 pizzas, the sausage and onion and the pesto Portobello. The pizzas were great. The crusts were crisp on the outside but still soft on the inside, the toppings were fresh and well baked. Only one problem with the pesto protobello was that it was a bit oily. The place was a bit hard to find and there was very limited parking. it is literally a house converted into an eating establishment but the feeling of the place was nice. Service was good with only (I believe) 3 servers while we were there.

Nice little place, food was very good. This would be a restaurant I would definitely recommend to others, especially those coming from out of town. Their pizzas are very good, each one hand made with fresh-tasting ingredients.

My friend and I absolutely love the sangria from Lolas! It is so good! Last time I went I have their Corned beef and cabbage with potatoes pizza and it was delicious! Their artisan pizza is so good and the atmosphere is so friendly.

Visiting Charleston from MI for a family wedding. Searched Yelp for a great local restaurant and found Lola's. So glad we went! While the wait was over an hour due to the building being so small, it ended up being totally worth it! Service was fantastic, and the food was amazing. The sangria and beer selection was perfect for waiting outside. We enjoyed the goat cheese salad, spring rolls and salad special of the day. We also enjoyed the pesto portobello pizza, steak and onion and ground beef pizzas. Apparently the kitchen burnt our pizzas so we enjoyed free drinks during the short wait for our pizzas to come out. They were incredible! We also enjoyed sharing each dessert on the menu. Our favorite was the peanut butter chocolate tart. I would go back in a heartbeat. We were also highly impressed with the staff. We were in a pinch while waiting for our hotel shuttle to come and get us and they not only let us use their phone but personally called for us. Thanks for a great evening!

This is one of the best pizza restaurants I've been to in a long time. Lola's is inside an old house and has cute decor. Warning- you may want to park down the street and walk because the lot is kind of difficult to get in and out of. I went with a friend and she recommended the sangria.. while I'm usually not a sangria fan, their's is amazing! It actually tasted like wine and not fruit juice! I had the seared goat cheese salad (wonderful! It's small though- don't think it can be your whole meal unless you aren't very hungry). Then we split a spinach and feta pizza, and had creme brûlée for dessert (really?! At a pizza place!? Awesome!). Only negatives are parking, I'm told they can get a long wait quickly (and it was tiny so I understand that), and ... it was expensive!!! My wine, half a small pizza, side salad, and dessert was almost $40. But it was delicious and the service was great. I'd do it again.. just not every week.

  • Lizzie P.

Sangria was great, but a bit on the sweet side. Goat cheese salad is a must, although I would pass on the extra balsamic they give you. Sausage and shrimp pizza as well as artichoke and olive pizza were both absolutely delicious. The only thing is that they need to step up their game on desserts.

    (5)
  • Liz G.

I tried this restaurant for the first time a few weeks ago and I don't know what took me so long to come here. The sangria is the best I've ever tasted and the steak pizza was delicious.

You want fresh? you like pizza? and do you like to drink? well then this is the place for you... never ever ever ever have I have been disappointed. The goat cheese salad is just one reason I love it, but the pizza is... well the reason they're open, but I love it all the same.

Lola's pizza is legendary! Best pizza in Charleston. Their hoagies rock as well. I believe that they make the best Philly cheese steak on the planet! Check out Lola's your taste buds will thank you!

My husband and I order Lola's at least twice a week for a reason... it's the best food in Charleston, hands down! The Rosemary/Fig pizza is serious stuff, as is their traditional Margherita pie and Goat Cheese Salad. The servers are terrific and really appreciate their regulars. We love Lola's!

The goat cheese salad was delicious pizza was nicely done. I would come here again. I like the cute decor and location. If they accepted AMEX I would be more likely to be a frequent visitor.

I LOVE Lola's! They have the best food, and such a warm atmosphere. I would choose Lola's over Pies & Pints anyday! I always get the pan seared goat cheese salad to start then pizza. The goat cheese is out of this world! Each time I've been I've tried a different pizza, and they're all incredible!! Also, they have the best Sangria!

    (5)
  • Jennifer H.

I love the spinach & feta pie. The sangria is delicious. I am not a fan of the ground beef (I forget what else is on it) pie they offer right now. It tasted weird to me. Salads are great, and so is the service. Lovely date spot.

  • Emily J.

Lola's is the best pizza restaurant in all of West Virginia. If there was a pizza food tv show, like Cupcake Wars, Lola's pizza would win. First off their salads are never short of being fresh. The pan seared goat cheese salad is by far their biggest hit. However, the green salad with shallot vinaigrette is taste bud perfect before pizza. Any pizza is good, literally there is not a bad pizza on their menu. I always order a side of balsamic reduction to go with my salad and to dip my pizza in. I recommend their flowerless chocolate cake. However, the cream brûlée is just as good it just depends on what you are in the mood for.

This visit was during my first trip to Charleston. I wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised with this quaint little place. They do not take reservations, but we didn't have a problem getting a seat around 9:30pm on a Friday. The place is really small, but keeps that charming feeling. We ordered the Sangria, goat cheese salad and shrimp and sausage pizza. Everything was good, but nothing to jump up and down about. The Sangria was supposed to be amazing, but i found it to be really hard to drink the whole glass (which usually isn't a problem). they used grapefruit or lemon as some of the fruit inside, and to me that is a big mistake. It was too citrus tasting and less sweet. I am a huge fan of Sangria, and was not impressed by this. The salad was as good as everyone here said it was. It was the warm goat cheese that warmed the belly :) Pizza was okay. Nothing special. It looked homemade which makes it more appealing to start. All in all, I have to remember I was in Charleston, WV and this was a very cute place. I will def go back. They would have received a few more stars if i felt the food was a little better. Everyone was sweet as can be, but service was just okay. I think its a great date night place though!

In my opinion the best gourmet pizza in Chucktown, especially the pesto portabello and four cheese. They also have a really nice selection of beers (Ayinger Dunkel Weizen is $$) and great service. Highly recommended.

  • Emma C.

I can't say one bad thing about Lola's. The atmosphere and service are both fantastic, the place is always buzzing and very cozy feeling, and I have never had to wait long for a table, despite how crowded it is. More importantly, everything on the menu I have tried is DELICIOUS. The goat cheese salad is amazing, as are pretty much all the pizzas. The bartenders are friendly, and the sangria is so good that my only complaint is I can't walk here from my house. Go here. You won't regret it.

    (5)
  • Katie P.

Definitely some of the best pizza in WV! Friends and I go here about once a month and we are never disappointed. Like pretty much everyone has said below, the sangria and goat cheese salad are definitely the standouts besides, of course, the pizza (portabella mushroom is my personal favorite!). I would recommend this to place to anyone, and especially to those who love a not-so-typical pizza and really good wine :)

  • Kat H.

We stayed in Charleston last night mid roadtrip, and this restaurant was just the loveliest rest stop! The goat cheese appetizer was very yummy as everyone's been saying, but for me the highlights were the portobella pesto pizza (also w/goat cheese and whole roasted garlic cloves), the Harpoon 100 Barrel Rye IPA as recommended by our server, and the coconut creme brûlée. The atmosphere was totally cozy with a funky twist, and the staff were super friendly and quick to offer after-dinner bar suggestions.

Thankfully the South Hills Secret is Out of the Bag. Carrie and friends have done something amazing, pleased those in South Hills and those coming up the Hill with her quaint pizzeria tucked in the middle of Charleston's South Hills area. Many accuse the area of being pretentious. Lola's is anything but. Carrie uses fresh, local ingredients to create pizza and salad works of art. Her blend of speciality cheese and herbs and spices add to the overall zing of any item that you purchase. If you haven't been, you really must go. May I suggest a wonderful glass of red, a goat cheese salad, and the eggplant pizza.

I love this place!! The fried goat cheese "salad" is probably one of my top ten favorite foods ever! All the pizzas are fantastic too and have very unique ingredients. I think they are in the process of opening up their patio area too which will be really nice since the interior is so small right now. Whenever I visit Charleston, this is a place I HAVE to go to !!! Can't wait to go back next year!

Easily my favorite establishment to frequent when I am in Charleston for work. The goat cheese salad is AWESOME & you can't really go wrong with any of their pizza options either. The ambiance is quaint, local, and cute & the waitstaff is always welcoming and friendly :)

Love Lolas! Locally grown fruits and veggies are regularly incorporated into the menu. Hormone free beef produced in Monroe Co. is used daily. Creative pizzas, salads and specials make for a wonderful dining experience. Sangria is made daily and local artist provide the always colorful decor.

Possibly the best food in Charleston, certainly the best pizza -- and some the most innovative I've enjoyed anywhere. Delightful microbrew selection, too.

I had the privilege of hanging out with some friends in Charleston and they took me and my daughter to Lola's. Here are my stars: 1) Pan Seared Goat Cheese Salad 2) Sausage and Onion Pizza 3) Flourless Chocolate Cake 4) Awesomely homey yet edgy ambiance 5) Fine and slightly quirky staff All in all, if I ever get back that way, Lola's is a MUST for a meal or two. And here's an extra hint, if you go when there is a WVU game, you will be sure to get a seat. Seriously.

5 star service and pizza. All ingredients are from the local area. The salad was incredible. Big city sophistication in a nice hamlet area near the state forest. Come early and come hungry. The homemade sangria as good as being in Segovia. A true charleston treat.

  • Guy A.

Very nice and very unexpected. We met a couple here and arrived early. This is in an old house so it is not a very big place by any means. Well, the chef offered us a house made sangria and well, don't have to ask me twice. IT WAS AWESOME and what a great idea to take red wines that are open at the end of the night and make sangria. So more of that to come the rest of the evening. Since I am a chef I love to experience as much as possible, so my wife and I get different things so we can taste more that way. Well, the 2 salads we got were off the chain and the pizza, we had 1/2 of something and 1/2 of something else....great. It was a great place. For Charleston, I hope it does well since the dining scene is somewhat behind in the times.

  • Bill D.

Great pizza and a nice microbrew brew selection too. If you make it to the Bridge Rd. shops in South shills, make this your choice for dinner.

So it looked like a house..... Coming to this restaurant while I was visiting Charleston was definitely a new experience. This restaurant is in what once was a one story house (I assume?) Anyway once inside I was surprised to find it to be pretty cool with a very unique ambiance. Split a pitcher of sangria with my parents and it was quite good but nothing out of this world. For a starters I had the toasted goat's milk salad and though it was great! I love anything with goat's milk cheese so I may be biased but it was presented well and tasted great, also the cheese wasn't soaked in oil but rather crisp, warm and delicious. We ordered the spicy shrimp and sausage pizza and it was definitely different and a great change of pace from Domino's for sure. Oh and daily made crust was delicious. I'd probably give this place a 5 star rating if the pizza was a little bit spicier/had a little more flavor and I thought the prices were just a little too high for what I received. But I would definitely recommend this to anyone who isn't afraid to try something different.

  • Jennelle J.

Awesome food, awesome atmosphere. The hubs and I usually split the fried goat cheese salad to start. It's a huge hunk of breaded and fried goat cheese with field greens and balsamic reduction. The kitchen is nice enough to cut the cheese in half and bring it out on two plates for us. Have tried several of their pizzas, and haven't found one yet that I didn't love. They don't have draft beer, but their selection of craft and microbrews is outstanding--and not priced terribly high considering. The do source some ingredients locally.

Lola's was great when it opened and it remains great today. I find that the service is always friendly and personal. The salads are unique, fresh and flavorful, but the pizza is the main attraction and it never disappoints. This is a locally owned business that Charleston can be proud of!

After deciding to spend a weekend in Charleston before the wife is too knocked up to enjoy a few hours in the car/sightseeing, we needed someplace to grab dinner on a Friday night. The bed and breakfast host seemed psyched about us trying the place, and I had read all the good stuff the Yelpers had to say. Totally cute little place up in the hills south of downtown, right across the river in fact. Looks to have been a house at one time, converted into a little pizza joint with a great atmosphere, friendly staff, and very good pizzas and salads (was too full to enjoy dessert). Also have a decent little wine and beer selection, so all of the bases here are covered - ambiance, food, drink - checks all around. As we were ordering the server noticed we didn't want any of the cheeses on the salads - she specifically pointed out that all of their cheeses were pasteurized in case we were worried about the baby - good looking out and the salads were great. One with beets/spinach and one with mixed greens/mandarin oranges/avocado/roasted sweet potato (I know, but it really works). Overall a really solid first dining experience in Charleston on our first night in town - thanks for the great dinner!

Not your average pizza joint! Lola's has great food - from unique / seasonal salads to pizzas and desserts (plus a fantastic beer & wine menu) - excellent service, and a fun atmosphere. As great as it all is, the pizza is truly the star here. You can build your own from an array of meats, cheeses, veggies, sauces or go with one of their speciality pizzas like steak & cheese (my fav!), pancetta & pineapple, sausage & onion or vegetarian offerings (they're really good but this girl likes some meat). The decor is fun - check out the chaging art, by local artists, on the walls in the front room. Seating is limited so it's best to get there early (but it's worth the wait) - they open at 4pm (they're closed Sundays & Mondays). A deck was added this spring (2008) to provide additional seating and on Wednesdays there is live music from local musicians.

Wonderful restaurant! One of the best in Charleston. If you are looking for a normal pepperoni and cheese, go somewhere else. This place has progressive style pizzas - goat cheese, pesto, artichokes, sweet potatoes, they all come on pizzas!

The food here is awesome! They really only have salads, pizza, and dessert; but they're all great. I enjoy the pancetta & pineapple pizza. They open at 4pm and I try to go as soon as they open to have fast service. It can be a bit of a wait most times, so go early and grab some drinks to wait.

Really good unique pizza for a really good price. The crust was crispy ... Love the roasted garlic. Not your typical franchise pizza place. Parking is a little sketchy. Get there early. My husband and I will be back.

My friend and I absolutely love the sangria from Lolas! It is so good! Last time I went I have their Corned beef and cabbage with potatoes pizza and it was delicious! Their artisan pizza is so good and the atmosphere is so friendly.

The atmosphere was great and the pizza and drinks were excellent. I can only give 4 stars because we waited almost 30 minutes for a table they told us would take 10-15, and after we placed our order it took over an hour to be served. I would eat here again- but I would take our servers recommendation to come during the week!

  • Fran T.

  • Jack L.

  • Jennifer H.

I love the spinach & feta pie. The sangria is delicious. I am not a fan of the ground beef (I forget what else is on it) pie they offer right now. It tasted weird to me. Salads are great, and so is the service. Lovely date spot.

Good Salads and Pizza! Cozy little restaurant in an old restored house, but can get a little warm and noisy. If you can sit outside, that is best!

Best pizza in Charleston by a mile, just get there early or take your patience as the shop is small and the pizza is popular.

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
