Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Wasn't crowded, and had such a great waiter. We didn't have to wait more than 5 minutes for our food and everything was super fresh and amazing. Even our chips were hot and delicious. The place was very clean and they use bottled water to cook with. They are also decently priced. I would come back here every day if I could.

EVERYTIME we go here to eat, the service, price, food, wait time and decor is all excellent..we've tried about all of the Mexican restaurants in town and this one is hands down the best. I order the Taco salad and my husband gets the California burrito chicken/steak mix, cheese dip & chips and it has always been DELICIOUS x 10000!!!!!

Good food, consistent, not too pricy. The California Burrito is awesome! It's huge! The Chicken Taco Salad is good. The chips are a little thicker here than other Mexican in the area. The decor is most impressive. Large log wood construction, high ceilings, feels very roomy (because it is). We like having this place in the rotation.

Good quality food. Terrible service. Menu is not specific. My girlfriend ordered 2 chicken and cheese quesadillas. On menu, it says 2 quesadillas are 6.50. I was charged 8.99 for that. And then I was overcharged on my beer as well. I went to pay the bill and brought it to the cashier's attention. I explained to him the situation and showed him the prices listed on the menu. Apparently the quesadillas that are 6.50 are shredded chicken only (again was not specific on the menu.) He began arguing with me telling me that the menu was wrong and would not give me price listed on the menu. #1 rule of customer service is the customer is always right. Don't argue with the customer.. You're going to get a bad yelp review. The only reason for the 2 stars was because of the food.. But that totally ruined my experience. Will not be going back.

So there were happy hour margaritas but they didn't seem to have any alcohol even tho I got it on the rocks. The salsa was good- fresh and spicy. The veggie fajitas lacked flavor and we're mostly onions. The rice is made with chicken so I didn't eat that, the rest needed a lot of hot sauce. I was barely given any guac with the fajitas. The communication was really rough with most of the servers- even asking about one of their tap beers was exhausting and got me no where. May e my standards are too high from NY but I wouldn't go back.

Best Mexican in Charleston. The salsa is full of flavor; with large chunks of onion and herbs. The season songs the use in the meats is complete yet mellow and satisfying. I always get the chimichangas and my husband loves the carnitas burritos.

The BEST Mexican cuisine in the Charleston area. The fajitas, pollo loco, and guacamole are superb. They have an inexpensive lunch menu too. Staff is friendly. Service is fast too

Let's be honest here. You probably aren't going to West Virginia to find Mexican food, are you? If you are, then you likely won't be disappointed. This is one of a large number of chain-like establishments in a gigantic shopping mecca, so you should already probably set your expectations towards the low end of the spectrum. Once inside, the decor is definitely not bad. If you are looking for a hunting lodge. But if you are looking for authentic Mexican? Probably not. Service is so-so. It could be because the place is huge - but it did show up eventually, and the food was served in a reasonable fashion, but it was unfortunately pretty middle-of-the-road. On the upside, there is plenty of food, so you aren't going to leave hungry.

Best Mexican I have ever had. My family and I have eaten here many times, and I've never had anything I didn't love. The salsa is spicy and the chips are always warm. They have great and fast service, and I have never had to wait any more then 10 minutes for my food. If your in Charleston, and feel like you want some Mexican food this is the place to go.

Hands down Las Trancas is the best Mexican restaurant we have ever been to. Very clean, great service, and amazing food!

Travelling through South Charleston for work on and off the past few weeks, I've come to expect some pretty mediocre chain restaurants along this gauntlet of strip malls. Had we not been staying at the hotel next door, we probably would have skipped Las Trancas, as from the outside it looks like more of the same. Not much better looking inside. However, every time we have eaten here, we have left completely satisfied; actually we've left stuffed after overeating to a comical degree. Everything we have ordered from the enormous menu has been totally decent, and some of it really delicious (they have a Greek Diner-sized menu with just about any kind of mexican meal you could want--not usually a good sign, but they make it work). Ask for their tomatillo salsa, which is a nice spicy addition to everything, particularly the Texas fajitas. Also, the waiters have always been very attentive, and all smiles when they see us, which is either because they like us, or they aren't sure whether we've slept in the bathroom overnight when we show up the next morning for an early lunch. Seriously. Did i mention how bad most of the food is around here? Eat here, its good. e.

Inexpensive (americanized) Mexican food- always make it a point to go whenever I'm in the area. Some of the best chips & salsa i've ever had, hands down....plus their re-fried beans are vegetarian. Ask for Amy- she's awesome.

Excellent salsa. Decent food. Decent service. Probably the nicest atmosphere of any Mexican place in town.

I was surprised to see this place was not very full, but everything we had was delicious. I had a carnitas burrito, which was very good. The chips, salsa, and guacamole was very good. Even though other reviewers said the salsa wasn't spicy enough, I feel it was just right (I like enjoying my food with some spice without dying from the heat). The mango pomegranate margarita was very good, but not sure if there was much alcohol in there because I didn't taste it. Would definitely go back!

Not bad for being in Charleston, not NY but certainly worth coming back too! The salsa needs more spice but the chips were good. The Carnitas were PERFECT! Missed FLAN for desert; a typical Mexican staple desert certainly should be added!

excellent guacamole !!! fresh salsa.. we have been there 4 times over the past few months and each time we have tried something new.. shame to see the chain restraunts near them packed and only a handful of people in there whenever we go. We wish them the best
