I was skeptical about visiting after seeing most of the reviews on here. All I can say is they must have been working out the kinks being a new establishment. The food was outstanding, piping hot and paced perfectly. Everything from the appetizer through desert was great. Service was attentive but not pushy or intrusive. The place has a nice vibe to it. The beer was above my expectations, I will be going back to sample the brews they were sold out of. Overall a fantastic experience and a place I will easily recommend to friends

First, I want this place to work but it will be quite some time before I return. I've been twice hoping it was just a bad experience due to the place just opening but the second time we visited it may have been worst. First time; stood in front of two people working the front door for 15 minutes before they even looked up and acknowledge us. Ordered beer and about 4 different appetizers, all bland and not that good. Three of the appetizers had mustard involved. Not sure if they got a deal at Sam's Club but someone needs to hold off a bit. Ditto the wings, couldn't finish them. Second visit; fish and chips, bangers and mash and mussels. Again, under seasoned and just not that good. Didn't finish the meal. This from a guy that was raised to finish the plate. Fish and chips had thin fish and greasy batter. My beer this time was flat when served and not that good. My son is on his first try at homebrew and I prefer his first attempt over what we got served. Prices- too high for the quality. I don't have an issue paying for good food. I enjoy a good dinner and a good beer. For now the food, beer and prices need some work. Good luck, I hope people will give this a chance but I will be waiting a few months before I return. I do want this to work. I stood in line the opening week because I wanted to give my support. After my second visit I won't be waiting in line again. Third visit, new menu. Things seem to be heading in the right direction. Still not great but better. Again, not too impressed with the beer. Food did taste better. Recommend giving it another chance if you have not been for awhile.

The service was good, but the quality of food was sub par. It is supposed to be a pub, but also a high end restaurant. There are no TV's or Guinness on tap. They play classical music with a large painting of a cowgirl riding a steer backwards. They need to make their mind. Keep prices high, but make it high dining, or lower the prices, throw on some tv, make it an English pub like Charleston needs.

WOW! had the Miss Leading Belgium Ale yesterday! with a side of Mussels (because that is how they do it in Belgium) The Ale was the best I have ever had and the mussels where very fresh and done in the classic style!

I will say for Charleston WV to get a brewery, I was so excited! The long wait finally over! Then I tasted my first brewed beer from the new brewery the one and only I might add! My taste buds did the exact thought of my review Meh! Then don't let give the food a review! $8 for 4 onion rings! Really! High prices for low quality taste and small amounts! Come on Charleston Brewery Company lets think twice about price and quantity!

The service was pretty bad, but that's the norm here in Chucktown. It was really loud and we had trouble hearing the server. The food was some of the worst, over-priced food I've eaten in a long time. I really want this place to work, but they occupy too much space to have bad food.

Visited on Saturday April 26, was holding off on the review because i want this place to successed - we need as many options as we can get. But sadly the experience was not good - although our server was good she had little knowledge of the menu so questions were not answered. It was the afternoon - the place was pretty empty, even at that we saw the manager converse with friends that came and went but didn't once come to our table to see if our experience was satisfactory. Then there is the food - not great - I'm thinking that maybe they are stiving for the days when English food was bland and and without spice - that was a war thing - the war is over - buy a spice. Everything was "ok" but nothing at all specail. Shared the onion rings, something called jamacin potato cakes (or something like that) - not sure what was jamacin about it and I really didn't get the potato cake thing - it was more like an English pastey - but still not good. My friend got the ruben I got the fish sandwich - nothing special on either count - willing to pay for good food and service - not going back any time soon - hope they get it together

I tried this place a few weeks ago and it was ok. They do have a good beer selection but not anything that would make me want to revisit this place anytime soon. The food was good also but not fantastic. Would prefer just walking down the block to Pies and Pints. Better beer and better food.

I have been to CBC just about once a week since they opened. I always sit at the bar so I can't speak to the floor service, but the bartenders are friendly, professional and knowledgeable. I have had the pretzels 3 time and they are always good as is the beer cheese soup/dip; they did change to house made spent grain pretzels which are smaller but very tasty. Best value/meal on the menu so far is the German style pork chop with sour kraut and house made butter noodles; prepared to perfection and a wonderful combination of sweet/sour/buttery. I have tried all of the beers and have not detected a single quality problem, some are not my preferred style/profile, but all have been of outstanding quality. New beers are tapped weekly and rotated into the tap line-up along with guest beers from local/craft breweries. Just tapped 2 new beers; soldiers ration brown porter and a west coast red. Brewer Ryan has been responding to patrons and will come out and mingle at the bar to discuss his beers and techniques. Now filling Growlers and soon half growlers, bring your own or buy one of theirs for $5(cost), plus the fill. I have also tried the Rueben with house made corned beef and Russian dressing, Banger's and Mash(little dry but they are adjusting the fat content), Fish and Chips and all have been excellent and would order them again.

Nice place but a bit disorganized (bartender specifically, everything just seems difficult for the guy....like he's 10x busier than he should be) even for a lazy Sunday. Good beers (not great), but cannot sell growlers until June 12. Laid back atmosphere. Step thru the black sheep restaurant up a couple steps and your in the bar. Actual brewery is east of the bar. Barton is a great laminated wood. Lights above the bar. Large steel pipe footrest and aluminum padded bottom bar stools. Bar back includes windows into the brewery and some liquor/glass/growler shelves. Dark concrete floor. Burritos from Black Sheep are good. Huge kudos for having siracha already on table. Several windows along south wall that look out to Quarrier. Other walls are darker with random artwork. Not sure if I will or want to be back in Charleston again, but would come back to Charleston brewing company.

Great space. Food is solid. Bangers and mash particularly good. House made pork and lamb sausage with great balance of herbs and spice. Live jazz Thursday nights. Grab a flight of beers, and settle in at the handmade wooden bar. Beers are respectable, with the Moonbeam and the Raj standing out. The brewery is pretty big for a one man show. CJ at the bar did a great job of maintaining a balance of familiarity and professionalism. A definite find if you're in Charleston. New restaurants will have growing pains, but I think these guys have figured out their issues. Check them out.

The only reason I am giving it two stars is for the beer. As for the food extremely disappointed to say the least. The scotch eggs were the best part of the meal besides the beer. I ordered the stilton blue steak salad which offered very little lettuce, a very fatty steak, & they even forgot the blue cheese. My husband ordered the Bangers & Mash the potatoes & gravy had great flavor, but the meat was a little dry. Another couple at the table ordered the pretzels which were just ok & the popcorn shrimp were really just a basket of fried batter with very few very small shrimp. The wings got a thumbs up as did the salmon. They were out of the lobster Mac & cheese as well as the Reuben...I found this odd for early on Saturday evening. We wanted to order the samples of beer & were told it would be a while before they had enough clean glasses. We were ok to wait, but again it was relatively early on a Saturday & for them to make it they are really going to have to get there act together. We'll be back for the beer, but it will be a while before we try the food again!!

I love good local craft beers which makes me love local breweries. On Untappd I am closing in on having sampled 1000 unique beers, so I know what makes a great brew. Unfortunately my home state of WV is behind on the craft brew scene, having only 4 breweries statewide as of this writing (at least ones I could find information on), only two of which that sells bottles or cans, this not being one of them. Compared to Ohio which has 163 breweries, and over 14 locally in Columbus alone. WV is literally missing out on millions if not billions of dollars of revenue and thousands of jobs, not to mention tourism. But in order to have all of that you must first have good breweries with outstanding brews. To support that you have to convince millions of Bud Light loving hillbillies to abandon their non-locally owned convenience store watered down crap beer for something better, and therein lies the problem. I've had the pleasure of sampling 3/4 of WV's breweries and hands down CBC is the best of them...keep in mind I haven't made it to Morgantown Brewing which could be better. CBC makes some decent brews, but they have a long ways to go before they have people flying in from out of town for their events, waiting overnight in the cold and rain just for a chance to buy a single bottle of their beer. The beer made here is good for WV, but pretty poor compared to the rest of the country, but I hope that doesn't discourage CBC, they're on a roll and they have to start somewhere. Give them about 10 years to find their legs, create an outstanding brew, start bottling, and get a good following. The best beer I had was the Brown Paper Bag, which tasted like a milk stout with lactose sugar flavors hiding inside. The second best was the Raj, and that would probably be the only one I would take a growler back to Ohio to share with friends to try something new. The Taylor Blonde had a good pilsner flavor with hints of banana and crackers, a good step up from Bud Light for all the local rednecks. Citra-Obsession I've had twice and he flavor was inconsistent and weak. The rest of my flight weren't worth mentioning. On a side not, the Black Sheep burrito restaurant that operates with the brewery has outstanding food. I loved their trout and steak tacos, pass on the duck taco with pickled blackberries.

Disclaimer: I go to a brewery for beer, first and foremost. Food is a complement to the beer, but The Beer Comes First. And on that note, CBC is scoring pretty high. Second disclaimer: I'm friends with the brewer. That said, if I didn't like what he was making I'd likely only come by occasionally to sample his wares and then move on. I'm there two-to-three times a week. So, I'm enjoying the beer, and I think most craft drinkers will as well. Ryan is making some tasty beers while keeping the alcohol content relatively low on most of them. Favorites of mine to date are/have been the Taylor Blonde - a pilsner malt bill and hop schedule with clean American ale yeast, the Wobbly, and English-style best bitter, the 1919 cream ale, and the just-tapped Soldiers' Ration, a wonderful brown porter. HOWEVER. The place is loud. Loud loud loud. The architecture of the place simply allows the ambient noise to bounce around and amplify. When the place hits about half capacity it can be too noisy to hold a conversation, and hearing the musicians play when there's music is, well, out of the question. They are taking steps to abate the acoustic problems, though, so hope is on the horizon. And, the food. Hit and miss but too pricey. Some sandwiches are reasonable but overall price levels are too high. Some folks I know believe the food is not seasoned enough; I tend to agree. Favorites of mine include the bangers and mash, pretzels and beer mustard, and scotch eggs. The Kaiser rippchen, a pork chop braised in kraut is excellent. Contra that, the short ribs are flavorful but dry and the wingsaren't that good (and defintiely not worh the price). Again, there's a new menu on the way and some of these issues could go away. Service: bar area, great; elsewhere it's uninspiring. Overall, I like CBC. The beer's good, the bar staff is solid, and some of the food is worth a stop. Do I want it to get better? Yes. Do I go there, and will I continue to go there, regularly? Yes. Come join me.

As a beer enthusiast I highly recommend a stop in. After handling some business outside of Charleston two fellow marines and myself found the place on yelp actually and decided to give it a try. Very classy and everything was very upscale. We tried a few of the brews and they were excellent. Lunch was high quality for all of us, I had the pub burger and would say you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. What I personally enjoyed the most was the service, I expect service over everything else and the brewing co delivered. Had a wonderful chat with the barkeep as he let us taste anything before purchasing a drink. We ended up tipping a $50. The only reason I give 3 stars though is because you must be in the right mood for the venue. Very classy, makes me think of a lawyer hang out. Being only 5 months old they need to work on their appeal to all customers. Not exactly a party spot but with some time and proper planning with live music I think this has potential to be just like famous "The Brewing Station" in Nags Head NC. Overall, definitely worth a lunch or dinner stop in or possibly a date. I enjoyed the quality so much I decided they earned a good write up! Try the Brewer's Son draft!

Severely disappointed. It's the first week or so that this place is open an I get that they don't have their legs under them yet, but it was not a good experience. The beers were hit and miss. After a sampler I locked onto the Derailer Pale Ale. That was pretty good. Prices for the beer was good and average. The food was a no go for me. I went for an appetizer of $8 onion rings, I thought you can't mess up an onion ring and I terribly mistaken. When the plate of rings came out I was surprised that I payed two dollars a ring. That's right four rings. A good size with a terrible taste. After talking with my company they enjoyed the burger and Scottish eggs. The wings fell in line with onion rings, dry and bland. I might try again the next time I'm in town, but I'm not going out of my way to be there.

I visited with friends before the Library fundraiser this past Saturday. I believe it was their second day open. We ordered beers - several samplers - and they were all very good. Service was a wee bit slow, but they're getting it together and the place was packed. Food ordered was minimal - several appetizers - and all was tasty. I'm very excited that Scotch Eggs are now available in the CRW (though, my significant otter tells me they're not an everyday food). I'm quite happy to see there are no tvs. I hope there will be no live music. A place to hang out and enjoy good conversation over food and brews is welcome.

As a newer brew-pub the beer is fantastic. Many choices are heavy on the citrus but still solid selections. The 1919 is quite nice with hints of honey - by far my favorite. I arrived at about 4:30 and they were offering a limited menu though handed me a dinner menu with no other choices. Many items on the menu were unavailable which was fine as the prices seemed a little high. Had a classic cheese burger - good though light on seasoning and the bun was a poor match. Also had a bowl of chili - AWESOME! Very hot as its made with ghost peppers and a welcome change to most restaurants and their weak recipes. The waitstaff was very helpful and attentive.

Disappointment. Very excited about a new restaurant to try in Charleston, let alone a brewery. However, not a whole lot of great things to say. Starting with the fact that everything we wanted to order they were out of (2 beers, 1 appetizer, and 1 entree). Not a great first impression. Tried instead Salmon mousse as appetizer due to waitress recommendation. Lackluster. Not amazing not bad, would not order it again. Beers tasted like they needed to be brewed longer. Watered down and low on flavor. Entrees were served without their proper sides (shrimp fra diavolo should have had garlic bread, chili should have had sour cream on top). The worst of the worst was the Beer Mustard Chicken Wings. I suppose I should have known from the title, but who can screw up a wing? I have had wings with some type of mustard sauce before, but this was really like eating straight mustard on a wing - sound good? It really wasn't. Wings were undercooked and pink on the inside. What would you serve with a wing? Bleu cheese/ranch? How about straight up whole grain dijon mustard - does that sound good for dipping a chicken wing? It really doesn't. Staff seemed uninterested in clientele. Manager walked by our table about 5 times, where there were several full plates of untouched food without even asking how it was. Waitress was also uninterested in doing the right thing. After dropping some crackers/pita pieces from chili on table, and touching said crackers (not wrapped) while serving them on dirty serving tray and stuffing them back onto the plate, said "I hope you don't mind me touching those crackers." Yeah, 9 times out of 10, most people don't want you touching their food/dropping it on a dirty tray and putting it back on their plate. Like another reviewer mentioned the prices are relatively high for Charleston for what you get. Hope they can get their act together. Has the ingredients (location, fact that it is a brewery, some interesting menu ideas - although poorly executed) for a great new place, but really isn't ready for prime time. Maybe will try again in a month if menu improves.

Beers were AWESOME! Food was decent as well. We read the reviews and were a little skeptical, but this is the only brewery in this part of the state so we had to check it out and I'm glad we did! We got two flights just to sample all the beers and they were very full flavored and not watery. The lack of atmosphere was one of the reasons for the "4" but they are still pretty new. The "brown paper bag" was fantastic and we don't usually like the lighter beers. We will be back soon!
