Have been going to Thrive since they opened on New Years Eve. Just went tonight again tonight with my wife. Started out with cocktails and beer at the bar. When seated we started with the Sesame Flat bread, only we requested Grilled Shrimp in place of the Fried Shrimp. No questions or problems with this change, in fact if you have a special request just ask. Chef Dave and Chef Beth are all about making your food/meal the way you want it, all you have to do us ask. My wife choose the Fresh Salmon, it was amazing. I had the Maple Glazed Pork chop with a twist, topped it with a bit of their Shrimp Creole, again no problem with this special request. Finished our meal with the dessert special, a Chocolate Fudge Zucchini a Brownie topped with Vanilla Ice Cream.

Thrive is absolutely one of the best Wausau restaurants! My girlfriends and I really enjoy their wine list while the gentlemen love the beer on tap. A few of our favorite items on the menu include: shrimp flatbread appetizer, Mediterranean nachos appetizer, thrive green salad with shrimp, crispy clucker salad with grilled chicken instead of fried (they happily accommodated this special request), fish fry (so good, my husband has ordered this 5+ times), and the maple glazed pork chop. We also really love the aesthetic of the restaurant and always have an amazing time at Thrive! Will be returning soon to enjoy more great, fresh & local food and wonderful company!!

I have been here twice. The first time the server did not seem to have a good knowledge of the menu. The service was slow. The second time was better. The server was more knowledgable of the menu and the food was served in a more timely fashion. Atmosphere is good

Best restaurant in Wausau. I'm from Chicago but visit my boyfriend often who lives in Wausau and this is by far the best food I've eaten here.... We've tried many restaurants together to compare to Chicago. This is well worth the trip. Fun, casual, hip atmosphere. And the waiter was right... The meatloaf and grass fed burgers were the most popular and we would agree! Delicious!

I really want to like this place, but after 3 visits, meh. I had the special, shrimp tacos. Average. About as average as the mushroom Alfredo I had on the last visit. My husband had a burger. Ordered medium, was well, we'll done. I can overlook mediocre food if the service is outstanding, but major failure here to. my hubby is a bit hard of hearing, after asking our waitress /bartender to speak up, she actually said "maybe you should get a hearing aid". plenty of other places to try.

Great venue. Very friendly staff. Decor is modern and hip. The place has gobs of potential, however, the food (seafood flatbread) was over-salted. We addressed the matter to our server, and they were kind enough to offer another dish, or remake it. We chose the latter, and it came out "salty arse hail" for the second time. An "A" for effort i guess. When one touts "chef-owned, community driven," tasting should be part of the cooking process.

Love the atmosphere and the decor! Have been here twice already since it opened. Once being NYE - I had the ribeye and shrimp. The shrimp was nice...the ribeye was a bit chewy and gristly however I like the fact that it is grassfed beef. The next time I went I had the mushroom alfredo which lacked taste and was served luke warm. I really want this place to succeed and will definitely go back and give them another try.

I took my Mother here for the first time while she was in town visiting. We went for lunch and we LOVED it! The food was fabulous and the interior is pretty neat. We both had sandwiches and fries and service was quick and the food was great! Will go back again.

The only thing that prevented this place from getting a 0 was the fact that the wings appetizer was good. Other than that, the service was average. The Chicken Chimichurri Wrap literally had no chicken in it which is unforgivable. The burger was very overcooked even though I ordered it medium and the burger was very small. The decor and feel of the restaurant is good, but it is in a terrible area. I will not be back unless I hear that the food has dramatically improved.

I really wanted to love this place. I really enjoyed the vibe the place had and the decor was very cool. And, the food was good.... just not great. Thrive is in a unique location, not really near any other commerce, except the Semi-Pro Baseball Field around the block. Otherwise its neighbors are some housing and a few garage type buildings. This is not a bad thing, it actually makes it kind of cool, and interesting. We ate outside and it was a beautiful night. The outdoor seating is draped with white Christmas type lights and is surrounded by old metal fencing. The interior was very modern and had an open concept. The kitchen is exposed so you can watch them prepare your meal... All pretty cool! The servers were very nice, yet all seemed a little inexperienced. One of them told us it was his first week! We really liked our main server because he reminded us so much of the actor Michael Cera! Like I said earlier, the food was good but I would explain it this way... Maybe they try too hard? For example, the blue cheese dressing was slightly orange in color and had added flavor, to me it tasted like it had shrimp in it. I believe it would have been great on a cracker, but wasn't great with my salad. I was also let down that they only had one soup. (Can't do green pepper)! My Club Sandwich was good and the bread was great, but the sauce on it had an different (not bad) flavor or spice. It's unfortunate for any restaurant that is trying to make a good meal and in this case worked hard to develop a great theme. Sometimes when you explore new tastes you hit the mark with some people and miss with others. I have to say this was a great dinning experience, and I would go back. Maybe I just have to learn to expand my pallet and enjoy some new twists to old staples.

Staff was very friendly loved the decor and they have a great local beer selection. Good bar area with a handful of Tvs and long bar. Ordered the nachos and asparagus dip (think artichoke dip sub asparagus) both were very solid, especially nachos. Main course we ordered fish fry which was talapia but excellently cooked so you could still taste flavor of fish and not just breading. Also orders veggie burger which was handmade. Brussel sprouts were phenomenal. If we lived closer we would defiantly be making another trip! Wish this place the best of luck!

When this place had the option to review I had a very thought out review. Then once I posted it they took down their reviews. After seeing what a horrid time we had and to just ignore it instead of stepping up as a business I wrote this place off. The review was not nasty, just honest. This time I won't be so thoughtful. The wait time was redic. Top floor is wait to be seated while main floor is first come first serve. We were not told this by the hostess so waited over 45 minutes to be seated. This seating situation makes ZERO sense to me. I got a steak which came with a side of veggies PLUS a side of choice. I got brussels because I'd rather have more veggies... but instead all I got was the brussels and no normal veggie side. I specifically asked how they cooked their steak because I like mine medium raw and was advised that they were cooked medium rare. Wrong. This thing was so overly cooked it was borderline jerky. And small. The brussels were good though. My boyfriends food was equally as bad. We were upset enough by the end of the night we just left and got dessert from Culvers, which was the best part of the night. It was our anniversary and we were looking forward so much to going to Thrive that night that we just left angry. Our waiter though was fantastic. But that will never make up for the fact that the owners didn't step up and take a bad review head on and like adults.

This place is great! While in Wausau visiting my mother we wanted to grab a meal on a Friday night. As I unenthusiastically picked up my phone and pressed my Yelp app to browse the same old Wausau options I was excited to see something new! First off: tip-of-the-cap to whoever did the design work. The logo is sweet and the interior is also excellent - clean and modern with some colorful rustic components. That probably sounds paradoxical but see for yourself! When we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly hostess. They were busy and there was a wait for dining (the bar area is first-come, first-served). Sidenote: expect to wait; there are a few reviews here "striking" this restaurant for having to wait or not taking a reservation, unfair in my opinion and can't fathom where an expectation of zero wait time while dining out would even come from, especially at someplace worthwhile. Waiting is made easy by the great lineup of local brews. There were about a half-dozen drafts and a long line-up of bottles: O'so, Bull Falls, Central Waters, Capital, Tyranena, Ale Asylum, Lakefront, and more. Proper wine selection with large humidifier as well - didn't have any though. We waited about 10 minutes before something opened up in the bar so we took it. Wait staff was actually the bartender, who was friendly - working knowledge of the menu could be improved, however. We shared the pork kabobs w/ jicama coleslaw and Thrive salad with almond dressing, both of which were solid. My mother had the fish fry - there were two fish options (whitefish and cod) - light and clean breading actually had a crunch to it. I had the fish special - marlin on a bed of sweet corn polenta topped with a salsa. The polenta was exceptional. Marlin was well-cooked and flavorful but somewhat cold, compared to the polenta. Listened to the desert menu but didn't indulge - sounded like some impressive options. Four stars and not five b/c food could be improved. I would expect as this place settles into a grove that this would happen. I would most certainly return to this place and encourage others to do so as well.

I am a vegan and there is not much on the menu that is dairy and meat free. Ordered the black bean burger. It was OK. But our dining experience was unsatisfactory because the waiter offered up a quinoa "salad" as a special. It turned out to be less than a cup of quinoa and beans and this is what one member of our group ate as a meal for $4. In my opinion this place is way overpriced and portion sizes are too small. Quality is good but menu is lacking options for vegan.

Thrive is a difficult place to find if you are not from Wausau. The vibe inside of the restaurant is anything but ordinary. It has a very neat atmosphere. Drinks are a little pricey if you aren't there during happy hour. Food is slightly pricey as well but phenomenal! The reason I'm rating this place a three is because our bartender was horrible!we had a large party, and every person that went to the bar to order their drinks commented on how rude she was!

We went at 6:00 pm on a Saturday, so we were prepared for a wait. We were told it would be 45 minutes for a table - but we weren't in any hurry. Fortunately, we lucked into seats at the bar while we waited for our table. We enjoyed drinks and were seated in about an hour. For appetizers, we had the voodoo kabobs and the hush puppies. Love the kabobs and the slaw served with them. The hush puppies were good but could have used a bit more seasoning. For entrees we had the andouille sausage and shrimp creole and the wild mushroom Alfredo. Both delicious - again, though, the creole could have used more seasoning/heat. The service was speedy but a tad too hovering, and the entrees came out immediately after the appetizers. All kinks that will work out, I'm sure. For dessert we shared the salted caramel cheesecake - divine. Side note: the women's restroom boasts a beautiful sink, but neither the sink nor the toilet were functioning well. Again, new business kinks. We will certainly return!

This was our first visit to Thrive. The entrees were good, unfortunately we were disappointed with the appetizer, the sides and the dessert. They lacked flavor, very bland. The cheesecake is not baked at the restaurant, they ship it in from Chicago and you can tell. The decor and the service was great but the food experience from start to finish was not what we had hoped it would be. I hope the chefs step it up.

Went thinking one could find low fat low cholesterol entrees. Every restaurant offers chicken avocado wrap and salmon as their "healthy options". Was hoping that Thrive would be much like Graze in downtown Madison. Thrive management, if you read this-- please, you're creative, please come up with some new dining options for those who need a heart healthy diet. That would be an absence of cheese, beef, and pork, and butter Thank you.

Called ahead to make reservations on a Monday night, this restaurant does not take reservations, strike one. Upon arrival we were told there was a 25 minute wait, an hour later we took over a table in the bar area, while there were two empty tables in the dinning area, strike two. The appetizers ordered were great, toast & baked eggs and voodoo kabobs. Strike three, the entrees, overall, were severely lacking. Do not order the shrimp & andouille Creole dish, there was nothing Creole about that dish and the sausage was polska, not andouille, the seasoning was nonexistent, it was basically canned crushed tomatoes, overcooked boiled shrimp, and Hilshire Farm polska, with an undersized portion of plain jasmine rice. Ever heard of dirty rice, that's Creole. The mushroom alfredo was ordered with chicken, the chicken came seasoned with what looked liked paprika. Due to an allergy, we questioned the waitress, who went back to ask the chef. She returned and informed us that it was seasoned with "seasoning," but didn't know if paprika was an ingredient in that. So back to the chef she went, she returned with a plate to take the chicken that was indeed seasoned with paprika. The chef should know what's in his "seasoning." The kids popcorn chicken was nothing more than overcooked store bought cornmeal breaded chicken with frozen crinkel cut french fries, served tepid. The maple chop was good, juicy and seasoned well, potato bacon hash was also good. Lastly, the pan roasted Brussels sprouts & mushrooms were underdone and under seasoned. Beer selection is good, which is expected in WI, but bar service was slow. Our concerns were voiced and we were twice denied a coversation with the owner/manager/obviously-important-guy-in-the-grey-chef's-coat. Needless to say we will not be returning.

Well....... I was in town visiting my sister and her boyfriend insisted we go to THRIVE. He loves the decor. My sister warned me that she had been here twice and THRIVE has yet to deliver on the food. Sad to say she was right. COLD AND GREY BURGER.... fish was hot but tasteless. Brussel sprouts were cold... sent them back and they came out the same way. COME ON CHEF!!!!!!! I feel for you with this being a new business and all but please listen to your customers and make some changes. I think Wausau really likes you and even I will be back..... WHY? just to see if you are listening. I hope I am pleasantly surprised and won't have to send my food back.

We went on as Saturday, and had to wait an hour to get a table for two. (Not bad at peak time right after opening.) The meal was cooked very well. The creole bowl (can't remember the actual dish name) was delicious. Wine choices were good too. The cheesecake they had (salted caramel) is something I will dream about for days to come. Cool atmosphere with unique touches and deco. We will be visiting again to try more dishes.

We have been here twice--once on Valentines Day (evening) and again this evening. Both were wonderful experiences! Tonight, we sat at the bar and dined...I love to watch the bartenders doing their thing. Anyway, I can tell you that the grilled cheese sandwich and the meatloaf dinner are each amazing! My husband loved the pork chop. I really don't think you can go wrong. Our service has always been excellent and would definitely recommend Thrive to others.

Food was really good. The staff were really friendly and helpful as this was our first visit. We will definitely be adding this to our Wausau restaurant rotation. Even though my five stars will probably mean a wait for a table next time, you really should check this place out. I'm really looking forward to summer and their outdoor seating!

The place was hard to find at first but once we found it we were seated quickly. The prices seemed overpriced and the food wasn't that great. I got the mac and cheese special which ended up being a disappointment. Our male server was excellent and educated on the menu, though. The service was great, but the food was very poor.
