Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

Nice place. The bacon wrapped shrimp was good to start with. Sesame chicken was hot, fresh and about the best I have had. Service was quick. Good food at a good price. I'll be back!

OK, let's turn around and go back to Wausau for just a minute. I was visiting friends for a few hours and lunch time snuck up on us. My friends had previously mentioned this Chinese restaurant, saying they have a good lunch buffet, so we get in the car and head over. SERVICE: My friends are "regulars", which explained why the servers knew them by name. Aside from that service seemed to a step above what I would expect. Very friendly, checking back to refill beverages, take dirty plates, replace napkins, etc, a lot more often than I would normally expect! A+ plus for this! A little disclaimer: Having been in a long term relationship someone who's Chinese, we'd always seek out Chinese restaurants with food that's "more authentic" rather than the usual "Americanized" stuff you often find. I've come to prefer "more authentic". That said, on to the FOOD: We came here to hit the A.Y.C.E. buffet ($7.75/person). The variety of items weren't as numerous as some places I've been, but there were still plenty to choose from and enough to make everyone happy. Yes it was "very" Americanized, but still pretty tasty, especially when it was fresh right out of the kitchen. You'll find the usual players in the steam table trays: white rice, fried rice, chow mein type noodles, sweet & sour chicken, spicy eggplant, sautéed string beans, egg rolls, etc, etc, etc. yelp.com/biz_photos/the-… yelp.com/biz_photos/the-… One thing that was a nice surprise was something they called "Crab Rangoon". This kind of like other cream cheese filled fried wontons I've had, but these were larger and also had crab mixed in! I have to say these were quite tasty, so much so that I had 5 or 6 of them, YUM! I didn't get my own pic so I'm "borrowing" Lee W's pic. yelp.com/biz_photos/the-… OVERALL: Pretty decent though Americanized Chinese food and better than expected service, puts me right at 3.5 - 4 stars!

Eat on the fully enclosed porch where you have good views of the Wausau skyline and Wisconsin River. The lunch buffet is relatively small, but food turns over fast, and remains hot on the buffet line. Staff were attentive to refill my beverage, and bring out hot items to replenish the buffet. A solid place for a lunch buffet.

Had a good experience here the food was good service was ok. The price wasn't to high. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes Chinese food. Clean atmosphere the only real complaint is water served in warm glasses.

This is a review for the lunch buffet, I can't really comment on the menu food, but I have to say that they were VERY busy on a weekday around lunch hour for the buffet; seems like a popular place in town. The buffet is pretty small, just one short line. My favorite part about it was the soup options. They had egg drop soup and 1 other type (possibly wonton or hot and sour?). I liked being able to start my meal with a little cup of hot egg drop! However, the meal kind of went downhill from there... The buffet, although fresh, lacked solid dishes. There was only 2 chicken dishes and the rest were pork. I have a feeling that this is because pork is cheaper although I can't say for sure. I'm not a huge fan of pork, so I was a little disappointed that there wasn't more chicken or seafood etc. options available. Also, the chicken dish I did get (hot and spicy chicken) was not hot or spicy. It was kind of bland actually and the chicken wasn't the greatest. Overall my experience wasn't really the greatest, I won't be coming back for the lunch buffet, that's for sure.

We ordered Dinner for two and was more than enough food for two with spring rolls, soup, shrimp vegetables and sesame chicken! It was so delicious and we will definitely come back again!

One of my favorite places to eat in Wausau. Coming from Las Vegas, I've been spoiled with awesome food choices and was rather disappointed with other Chinese food places in the area. I actually found this place on accident and will never go anywhere else. The crab meat rangoons are seriously to die for. Their hot and sour soup is by far one of the best I've had. I always try something new when I come and so far I have no complaints. The staff is exceptional. Everyone is so sweet and so nice!! Oh and if you like tea, their oolong tea is so delicious!!

Fresh food, delicious.... Haven't had sizzling rice soup in about 14 years - this was The Best! Sergio was a great host & server. We walked in after 8:30 p.m. but were served quickly and out by 9:10 - they close at 9 pm on Tuesday nights. Thank you --this was a nice surprise;-)

Our waiter stood out from the crowd with top notch service. He was great with our two children, which is sometimes difficult to find in a restaurant. The interior could use an update, but the food and service was great! We'll definitely be back again!

I must update already! We ordered a ton of food to go last night - hoping it would last a few meals, don't think it will, ha! - and everything was petty darn spectacular. The mushu pork was awesome - loved that the pork was cut more chunky rather than strips! The Mandarin noodles were incredible, seriously, so good! The Hunan tofu, while a touch too salty was also awesomely delicious. Some of the best Chinese food I've had in a REALLY long time. Prior to living in Dallas - the land of bad Chinese food - I lived minutes from Chicago's Chinatown and this place rivals some of the best places there. Our experience was THAT good last night - and for carryout! The only mild miss was the potstickers. I'm SO picky about potstickers so take that into consideration. These just missed the mark a bit for me and their dipping sauce was underwhelming.

I've learned to stay away from most Chinese food places since they're either too salty, use sauce, or MSG. I'd say the food here was pretty good, the owners are a bit older so their food must taste a bit better. In any case, the place is pretty dark, even though they have white walls and green trim. There are not a lot of wait staff here, so you'll either get the mother, daughter, or the grandmother waiting on your order. Although the grandmother is a sweet heart. The dishes were appropriately priced and the service sizes were appropriate. Although, I did get food poisoning from an under-cooked scallop and a huge migration since they have MSG in their dishes, I'd say the place is great if you aren't sensitive to MSG.

Very good flavor! Beat Chinese I've had in a long time! GREAT service and oh, this is just great real food, not greasy! they have some vegetarian options which is great! Great spot when visiting Wausua

Very impressed with the food and service. We arrived right as they opened and had the place to ourselves for most of our dinner. I can not say enough about the food. The carrots and peas were still crunchy and tasted like they were just picked. The sauces were not heavy but still delicious. I would recommend this place.

Best Chinese food in Wausau by far. My wife always get these deep fired jumbo shrimp in a sweet & spicy sauce which she loves. I try something new every time we go and have never been disappointed. Prices are very reasonable. Service is very friendly and efficient. Ask for a seat by the window so you can look at the river.

I was torn between 4 or 5 stars. I have been there twice and have yet to find real fault with the resturant. Quality and service are terrific. I love the orange chicken.

An update of my review is necessary. Eddie and Julie Chen continue to look to add variety and interest to their menu. They have kept prices down. New specials include Szechuan won-tons, Tropical Shrimp, spicy deep fried tofu and Sole Filet with a number of sauces. The tropical shrimp is a very nice summer dish that includes fresh fruit with the shrimp (lightly battered and deep fried) in a mildly sweet sauce. The spicy deep fried tofu has become one of my favorites. Check out their new web site: wausaumandarin.com which includes a coupon good until the end of July. As the web site notes most of their entrees are between $7 and $12.

I've frequented the Mandarin for years (back when it was in the Menard's Plaza and well as the current location). At one point I did make a switch to Chang Garden, but have been disappointed on a regular basis in Chang's food (no flavor) and have returned to the Mandarin where their consistently good food is appreciated. Service is always excellent and the prices are fair.

The Mandarin is a pretty "Old School" Chinese restaraunt that has been around forever and used to be in Menard's Plaza before they tore it down. The Mandarin and Peking were actually the first Chinese restaraunts in Wausau after Billy Moy. They are now located in the Eastbay Plaza. I used to go here for dine-in and takeout for years back when it was still in Menard's Plaza. The food was always consistantly good and the service decent, but nothing to rave about. They have all your standard dishes you'd expect to see on a chinese menu and I liked the fact that they specialize in "Mandarin" style chinese cooking, hence to name. I have always prefered Mandarine and Hunan styles of chinese cooking over the Cantonese style cooking that the Peking does, Cantonese food tends to be a bit too sweet for me. The service was always decent and friendly which is important to me. Once the Chang Garden opened I eventually stopped coming to the Mandarin to eat altogether. The fact they also have an extensive sushi menu and their not a buffet is what initially got me over to try Chang Garden, but once I tried the Chinese I was hooked. I would still order from the Mandarin every once in a while just for a change from Chang Garden's food, but once they moved to the Eastbay Plaza I noticed their food took a bit of a nosedive in terms of taste and quality. I ordered to-go a few times from their new location and it just didn't taste the same. I remember the last thing I ordered was a beef with veggies dish and a fried rice, the sauce tasted burnt and the fried rice was so oily it leaked through the carton and bag onto my car seat. I kind of wondered if maybe they had changed cooks? It's been so many years since they opened that it wouldn't surprise me if they changed cooks. All I know is that the food definately didn't taste as good as it used to. Honestly, I have no doubt that the Mandarin will be open for many years to come. They probably have a big following of "regulars" because of being opened for so long, and I do appreciate the many good meals I did have there in the past. But for me, one too many recent bad experiences has made me give up on them all together..
