Healthy Meal suggestions for Texas Roadhouse

I usually hit up Texas Roadhouse a few times a year on my way back to St. Paul from Shawano. Every time I've been there the service has been great, beer very cold and food good. Great all around. Last time I was there I got a steak that rivaled some of the better ones I've ever had. I was quite surprised. What makes me give them a 5 is the experience I had earlier this summer. A group of 8 of us were making our way back on a Sunday night and we were starving. I realized as we were approaching that they might not even be open. I ran in by myself, seeing that they were closing in 15 minutes and asked if they would seat our group, giving them a very clear out that they didn't have to, we could grab some Wendy's up the street. She checked and confidently said that they would take care of us. The service that night was great, food came out fast and hot and we were very satisfied. I made sure to give our server a substantial tip.

I understand why the person who took my order does not bring me my food but when they bring the food of another table it's kinda a pain. Happened twice. The food was nothing special. The baked potatoes and chicken were under cooked. I can cook the steaks better at home. Why would I come back? The atmosphere was like eating at a McDonald's when a couple of bus loads of high school kids stops after a track meet.

A very typical Texas Roadhouse. When you've been to one, you've been to them all, with only a few exceptions. As a chain, it's a pretty consistent place to get a steak that's cooked at least the way you like it, which is more than what other places will do for you. I can't say I'm a fan of the rolls and cinnamon butter, but fortunately each table comes with peanuts so you have that option. As a word of warning, these peanuts HAVE been around the block and on other peoples tables, so opening them with your teeth may not be a hot idea. Atmosphere is forced, as Chris says; the chain feels like it is satirizing Texas rather than trying to emulate it. A little strange, since a fair amount of their BBQ is more Georgia-style than Texas, but I digress. Cooking meat is part-science, part-art, and while you won't get a unique delicious experience here, you'll get what you want and the chances of a positively-disgraced slice of animal here are slim. The best thing to mention here is the service at this location: The whole staff is engaged and in high spirits. You managers need to hold seminars about how you're keeping the employees this content, because I've never seen waitstaff this happy.

Out of ribs and prime rib on a Friday night. Seriously? It's Friday night, it's called planning, maybe whoever manages their ordering should look into that. Of course we also never heard about them being out until we ordered drinks and an appetizer.

I have eaten here before and usually enjoy the food. Today was an exception. Everything was way over salted, especially the mushrooms and the rice. VERY DISAPPOINTED

Good food and the service was friendly and efficient -- the place was packed but we ate closer to 8:00 Pm so it was starting to thin out. Steaks were good for a mid priced steak -- the ribs were fall off the bone which I love

Texas Roadhouse has excellent food and even better service! I am from California and when my family took me here I was pleasantly surprised! I had the fish and chips (i know doesn't go with the bbq theme, but they were amazing none the less), my dad had a steak, which he seemed to really enjoy. I have heard the ribs are great and are possibly some of the best in town! And the rolls... Don't even get me started, they were warm and served with cinnamon butter! Doesn't get much better!

Great Food. Semi Tacky Atmosphere, but staff has always been nice.

Our waitress was Miranda. It was her first night there, she made the entire experience. Not only was she quick to play around with our games, but she liked the A group better than the B group. The A group consisted of 5 married guys and the B group consisted of four guys that tried too hard or not at all. Miranda was witty and took our gentle ribbing. She convinced us all to order the combo platters. I ordered a medium rare filet and a side of grilled shrimp. If you were to ask anyone that grew up eating fresh seafood, they'd say the shrimp is over seasoned, but I sort of like it that way. I also got a cup of chilli, with onions and cheese. Nick tried to eat 6 of the rolls she kept bringing. In fact, when she didn't know how to respond to our line of questioning, she would ask us if we wanted more rolls. Nick always said yes. He also can attest to their vodka tonics with a small small splash of tonic. She was stunned after he ordered his 4th glass (if only she knew he was drinking vodka straight, before dinner, in a hot tub, with 8 small children watching). Overall, great experience, call ahead 1.5 hours in advance, and they will probably tell you that you should have called 2 hours ago, even though we did, and they told us to call an hour later. Texas Roadhouse you were worth it.

I'm a big fan. Food is always very, very good. Large portions with great flavor. Very good service. The place is always packed, so use their call-ahead seating option. Warning: free peanuts are offered all over the restaurant, so if anyone in your party has a peanut allergy this place is off limits.

One star for the nice waitress & attentive service. The food was awful! Everything was so overly salted I couldn't eat it. Fries and rice pilaf were both so over cooked. Even the peanuts were stale. Good thing I don't live anywhere near here. If this is the best restaurant in town, I'd never want to try anything else!

Hot damn: a real good steak at a chain restaurant in Wausau! Seated close to Willie's corner - homage to Willie Nelson!?!? Not much like the authentic ambiance of the Waring General Store in Waring, TX. Got a hankerin for a slab of beef - this urge comes over me every so often. My wife had a gift card for this new restaurant in growing Rib Mountain (sort of a Wausau suburb?) I had the 10 oz. Ribeye: very good to excellent. My wife had the pulled pork - excellent. The onions that came with the steak are slightly fried - umm, umm good. The house salad was surprisingly good. The mashed potatoes with gravy - OK. Green bean side dish with bacon - pretty good. The women in the wait staff did a line dance twice. Overall a little too much kitsch for my taste. Tin buckets with peanuts in the shell at each table - your hors d'oeuvres, Texas style.. Dinner for two with a drink for each: $34.00.

The food is excellent and the service is outstanding. When you arrive, you immediately receive a basket of hot yeast rolls with Cinnamon butter that is to die for. I think they have the very best ribs in town and their steaks are superb! Best of all you don't have to go broke having a great dinner. I have been there many times and never had a bad meal. BUT be prepared to wait. The place is so popular, I suggest you do the call ahead setting... while its not a reservation, it will give you a slight lead on the LONG lines...

We recently re-visited Roadhouse to celebrate our daughter in laws graduation from college. I informed the hostess it was a party of 9 and was told when all diners arrived to let her know, which I did. We followed her to the back of the building where she proceeded to divide us up between two booths. Unfortunately I was TFTF which means TOO FAT TO FIT in the booth and was left to sit sideways into the aisle. I was very uncomfortable so ordering a meal was out of the question. A salad would have to do. It was very awkward to try and converse with the rest of the party across the aisle. Our waitress seemed overwhelmed and soon had someone helping her.The other waitress gave us more bread and asked if she could get us anything else.I told her yes, that I'd like a table for 9 please! I never noticed but there is a little door between booths, which she proceeded to open and pulled out a wooden extension that slipped onto a piece of metal that slid out from under the table. She asked someone else to bring chairs and voila we were all seated together!!Why hadn't our waitress offered this??? My Grandson and Hubs shared with me. A bite of Nathan's burger was pretty good but Hubs ribs were so over smoked as to be inedible. He only ate them because he was so hungry. This will be our last visit to the Roadhouse.

"Yummy yummy ....right from the warm buns with the cinnamon butter to the finger-licking good ribs. The line dancing waitresses were fun to watch! And when we mentioned it was our first time, we got a coupon for a free appetizer for our next time!" Finish your review

The atmosphere and ambiance are a little forced. For example the staff does an occasional line dance and you can tell that some of them would rather swallow glass shards than participate. The call ahead seating is a must! This place is always packed with a long wait. They don't take reservations but the call ahead definitely gets you in faster. The food is good but, honestly, I have been told that I make better steaks at home especially for the prices. Expect a party of four to run you around $80+ if you all order steaks.

An hour and fifteen minute wait $25 for a two beers and two margaritas Food was ok, but I wanted prime rib without mushroom and onion and chili with onion and cheese and I received prime rib with mushroom (but no onion) and chili without onion and cheese. BUT, those buns with cinnamon butter, delicious.

Ate there twice while snowed in and both times enjoyable. Had the early bird specials one evening and not disappointed. Steak was awesome and the roasted chicken. Onion blossom was very good. Good service and friendly waitresses.

I used to love coming here, but a few months back we came there for my mother's graduation. We had a party of about 9, during lunch time. It wasn't busy at all, I think there were only a few tables besides our own.The service and food was poor. Once we went to be seated our party was split up with different waitresses at different tables even though we requested to be sat together. No business should split up parties unless they are too large in size or can't accomadate putting them all together. We will be taking our group elsewhere next time!

The ambiance was pretty cool. A little bit loud, a lot of people waiting. They have these barrels of peanuts all over the restaurant which is kind of cool. The rolls with cinnamon butter are to die for. 5 starts for them! But everything else was just ok, just what you would expect from a big chain.... The ribs were ok, I have had better (Dave's BBQ is still my favorite). No special sauces for the steaks/ribs or anything... Blooming onions are ok, a little big too salty. I think I still prefer the one from Outback.. Service was decent...

My group and I had the BEST SERVICE HERE EVER. The waitress whose name I have sadly forgotten was friendly, helpful, and attentive. I had the 16oz Rib eye. The kitchen was good but they need to cut down on the seasoning! A bit too salty but cooked to perfection!!!! Friendly atmosphere, the bottomless rolls that are more like scones served w/a sweet cinnamon butter, bucket of peanuts to nibble while you wait are great!!! Everything was 5 star flavor and moist. The Hawaiian rolls are awesome, blooming onion.. yep you guessed it.. Awesome! Their prices are extremely reasonable too. The only thing I would say needs improvement are the sides which are very basic; fries, baked potatoes, apple sauce, steamed veggies, just not very exciting or uniquely prepared. A nice taste of home here in Wisconsin, yea I was home sick but now I'm good to go....LOL -1 star, a bit over seasoned.... will be back to see if they fixed the problem.. Overall, this was a fantastic experience and a perfect way to round off a day of work.

This is the worst kind of place - a bunch of cattle eating cattle. Yuck.

This location has been slipping more and more every visit. Walking in, there was a faded, ripped up old tarp covering an outside bar that gave the appearance of a ghost town. The entry way was dirty and cluttered and looked like a storage room with upside down tables, bags of salt and boxes. Not very welcoming. The hostess was friendly and sat us immediately. The server was fine, nothing special, not overly attentive, but no major problems. The food was ok but nothing I would rush back to have again. We have never enjoyed the line-dancing and peanuts on the floor, but we had put up with it because the food and service was good. Unfortunately the value no longer outweighs the annoyance of needing a refill while your server is off doing the "boot-scootin' boogie." No plans to head back any time soon.

For a chain restaurant it is good. You get exactly what you expect to. The wait was moderate, the waitresses were all friendly and quick, the food was fast and had good flavor. I will eat there again if only to pig out on the bread and cinnamon butter!

I am really on the fence about Texas Roadhouse. I want to give it 5 stars but there are a few things keeping me from doing that which I will explain in my review. I gave it 4 stars because even though there was a few things I didn't like. I do appreciate the fact that they give you alot of quality food for the right price. You get your money's worth unlike a lot of restaurants in the area that overcharge for steak. I don't normally go to chain restaurants for steak but I had heard so many good things about this place that I decided to give it a go. My impression upon entering is that I found it kinda odd that during every visit I didn't notice one server, bartender, or Host/Hostess that was seemed to be over the age of 25? The whole staff seemed extremely young and I can't help but wonder if that was intentional??? I kind of felt like I was back in my high school cafeteria only with nicer seating and food. Anyways on to the review...After 3 visits here are my general observations. All 3 times I ordered steak, once was a NY strip, the second time was a Prime Rib, and thrid time a Ribeye. The NY strip was extremely overseasoned but cooked perfectly. My second visit I ordered the Prime Rib and all I could taste was smoked flavor. The taste of smoke was so overwhelming that I didn't eat it and ended up giving it to my dad to take home as leftovers. So my third visit I was really craving prime Rib but was afraid to order it so I explained to the waitress what happened last time I ordered the Prime Rib and asked her if they use any kind of a smoke flavoring when they cook their Prime Rib. She basically looked at me like I was from outer space and had no idea how to answer my question, it didn't even occur to her to go ask the kitchen. At that point I just said forget it and ordered the Ribeye. I asked them to go easy on the seasoning and they did a bit (could've put less), so I enjoyed my steak more this time around. My only issue this time is that they undercooked my steak to rare instead of medium, but they put it back on the grill for me with no complaints when I told the waitress. I really appreciated that the server was nice about it when I told her. On all 3 visits the sides were great, I had the mashed potaoes loaded, the house salad which is a huge portion, and the seasoned rice. The rolls they give you with the cinnamon butter are amazing, they alone make the trip worth it and they give you as many as you want! I guess my only other complaint is that the atmosphere is a bit too noisy for me, especially when it's packed in there. The servers will break out in a line dance and start hollering. I hear a lot of banging coming from the kitchen throughout dinner, I think the kitchen staff also have some sort of routine they do like the servers. I don't know if I am just getting old or what but I prefer a quieter dinner where I can hear my dinner companions and not have to scream at them to have a conversation. I will probably come back and try their ribs since I hear they are so good, not to mention I am addicted to their rolls. When I go back I plan on going either early or late to try and avoid the excess noise, I won't go during rush hour again. My advice if you go is to definitely use their "call ahead seating". They don't take reservations and it can get quite busy during rush hour since their only opened during dinner hours. They did mention maybe opening for lunch on weekends but I don't know if they did or not. Also, don't go thinking your going to have a nice quiet dinner, it gets rowdy and if that's not your thing you best go elsewhere.
