Good food at a good price overall. Daily specials don't repeat on a regular basis, so it keeps breakfast and lunch fresh. It's better than Denny's for the food, cost, & atmosphere combination. Several co-workers of mine go daily for the lunch specials because they love the variety. Diner motif has a local flair on some of the booths and the walls.

The perfect combination of an authentic diner and decent food. On a rainy Saturday the line for breakfast was out the door. Bottomless cup of good coffee, pleasant prompt service even though the wait staff was extremely busy and even though people were waiting for tables, we never felt rushed. Good American style breakfast and my toast was hot! The Mint is what mom&pop diners in small towns used to be like.

I loved the portabella sandwich, but I really came here to relive a childhood memory of lunching at the Mint with my mom in the 1960's. The decor is little changed from then and I learned from the old photos on the wall, that they had sponsored a baseball team as early as 1905. Their menu is fairly adventurous for such a small place.

Very solid. Great spot. French toast was delicious.

It's unfortunate that the Mint Cafe isn't open on Sundays because this place is hoppin' for breakfast/brunch on Saturdays. But hey, everyone needs a break - especially in a family-run diner. The service here is incredible. The bottomless cups of coffee are never empty, and the servers are such sweethearts. And THE FOOD. Although I like to mix it up every once and awhile, I love a traditional American breakfast: eggs, toast, hashbrowns, and sausage links. Boy, have the chefs here got it right. I want to live in the Mint Cafe.

Just an All-American diner. Good service, good food, good time. The scramble seems to be the thing of the week it was pretty good. The ham was a little tough but otherwise I enjoyed it immensely. The charge of $.50 for getting rye toast versus white toast or wheat toast was unexpected. The visit was worth it breakfast was good but it was not great.

Very home like atmosphere, seemed like everybody that was there knew each other. Have to try the Spinach and Artichoke Omelet!

Big thumb's up for a great breakfast. Price was reasonable, staff great, ambiance appropriate, and plenty of business. Will be back for sure.

Classic diner with good to very good food and service. A mom and pop kind of place. Great location right on the 400 Block square.

I checked out the Mint Cafe for the first time in my 24 years of living in Wausau just this week. The location is worth the visit. On Wausau's historic 400 block you'll feeling like your back-in-time. The inside has been nicely renovated but still has the old diner feel. The service as 'decent'. I've had much better service but I had no complaints with our server. The food was your typical diner food. Exactly what you'd expect from a cafe establishment. Don't take it as a negative. It was good and plain, almost soul food like. Pure Americana at its finest. Would I drive out of my way for the food? Probably not. Overall it is worth the visit for the experience of dining here. You can't have a better location in Wausau. The food is good and service is family like. Check it out if you feel like a good ol' fashioned diner experience.

Awesome breakfast cafe in downtown Wausau. It has been around since the 50's and is still owned and operated by the local family. The interior is still the original from what I can tell. Usually after 3 generations the grand kids mess everything up, not this time! They are open for breakfast and lunch, I'm not much of a breakfast person so I have only had their lunch. It's pretty inexpensive and you get a lot of food for the money. Try the cheese curds and their soups!!!

If you want a local, diner-like eatery with good, simple food at a good price... this is it. Very friendly service, too.

I love the menu and the location, and often see folks I know when I'm here. I can't help but go to the Mint when I come to town. I remember coming to the Mint when I was growing up and it looked so different then, it seems more popular now than ever. To that end, last time the service was not good. It was breakfast and they were busy, definitely, but we wondered why the server seemed to ignore us. The decor seems to change often. The T-shirts sold up front are so cute! You know you're going to a local favorite when they sell T-shirts for their restaurant.

A reliable, tasty, family-run diner. The food is always good, from the lunchtime sandwiches (the BLT, Ruben, and the Southwestern) to dinners. Desserts are also scrumptous. Very friendly service.

Love this place. The service is great, and the food is even better! It also has a great atmosphere for families to dine. I highly recommend eating here.

Fast, efficient service, good food, simple clean atmosphere. Servers quick & responsive, okay selection of breakfast foods - but no eggs benedict, a favorite of my son. :(

One of my favorite places on earth. I love the Grilled Salmon Burger, Burgers, Breakfast, Everything!!!. OMG, The Pie! I keep forgetting how much I love going to downtown Wausau. Worth the trip.

I really enjoyed my breakfast at Mint. I had the Greek Scramble and it was really solid. They have an awesome different menu; for example, one of the specials was flax cranberry French toast, or something to that effect. So they have healthy options. Prices were reasonable and the portions were reasonable. Staff is very friendly. Great location and the decor is neat. Men's bathroom is in the basement, fyi. I will definitely eat here when I swing past Wausau again. I reserve 5 star ratings for being blown away and this place was great but I wasn't blown away.

Great vintage stop for breakfast while in downtown Wausau. They have your standard fare: bacon, eggs, hash browns, toast, coffee, all in a spot with cool history on the walls and tables. The prices are reasonable. They also had a Benedict special complete with basil, mozz and tomato, sounded creative and cool, but I wasn't up for tomatoes quite yet that day. I found the place on Yelp, and from our room at the Jefferson Street Inn across the street I could see a steady stream of people walking in the back door, so I knew it had to be a winner.

Wasn't to hungry, do just got an appetizer did the ravioli and marinara. Not the best I have had. Additionally the water had a funky taste. Maybe that is a normal water taste for this area, but, in my opinion, wasn't good. The restaurant did it seem the cleanest either...

I've ways gone to The Mint for breakfast, I've never actually been there for lunch or dinner. They have awesome breakfast food! I wish they were open longer on most days, but otherwise it's a great little diner!!

Excellent egg scrambles, hot cider (Apple juice but still good) and hot chocolate to go with the huge pieces of French toast. Only 4 of 5 stares because my daughters French toast came soaked in strawberry juice when she asked for strawberry topping, and the coffee was VERY weak. I would go back for the food but not for the coffee.

We found this place on yelp and the reviews were spot on. Great place to have breakfast. Coffee was very good and the special (eggs Benedict) was delicious. Great service, great food, and the prices were very reasonable.

Hit here for lunch. Very classic diner. Nice staff. Traditional diner food so no surprises. Seems to be a local favorite. The open face beef sandwich was good. The mashed potatoes were good and the gravy was quite good. The pies looked good.

Great breakfast. I don't get them every time because the guilt would consume me, but the biscuits and gravy are some of the best anywhere. There are also some great lunch and dinner choices. Service is almost always fast and courteous. I just wish they'd open for breakfast on Sundays.

Great service, good food, reasonable prices and fun specials - it's a great spot for breakfast and lunch. Their salad is fresh, liver and onions well done, and sandwiches plentiful. The fries are okay, and hash browns are typically a bit burnt - so I took a star off for the sides. The rolls however, are above average. Breakfast items are done traditionally American, which is comfort food that's done consistently great. I felt welcomed each time I stop by, so I'll definitely be back!

I flew in to Wisconsin for a business trip in Jan 2013 and stopped here because it was one of two places in Wausau that had good Yelp reviews. I got here after lunch time (and after a recent snow storm) so there were only about 4 tables occupied. I forgot to look at the specials board(!!) and ended up ordering the gyro for some reason. It was good, and so were the fries, but it was clearly not cut from a rotating spit of meat, it was made from frozen patties. If I am in the area again I would sure give it a second chance and try something more 'home made'. Tip: To get to the bathrooms, go to the back of the restaurants and go down the stairs.

The company I work for had The Mint Cafe cater for us a few times. The food was good so a co-worker and I went to lunch there a few weeks ago. The place was jamb-packed with people! We were seated very quickly. While the place seemed over-crowded it still had a great ambiance. The food was excellent! I had the Malibu Chicken dinner for lunch. It was soooo good and everything seemed to be so fresh. And their portion sizes are great for the prices! I was quite content when I left.

Very well done! I had the Mexican scrambler. Great flavor! The hash browns were perfectly done and the wheat toast was high quality in my opinion. I also had a cup of hamburger vegetable soup. Soup was awesome. Small and simple done right. I will definitely be back.

Great breakfast spot! Had a very delicious breakfast sandwich on a croissant this past weekend. Service was nice, perhaps a bit inexperienced - but pleasant. The cafe was somewhat busy and food came out within in an acceptable amount of time. The menu is really nice, not overwhelmingly large, and I had hard time deciding what to have - we'll definitely be back to try out more.

This is a terrific place! Coffee is great and the hash browns are perfect. We've eaten here twice on our trip and may go back a third time before we go home. The service is what makes it a five star. On our first day we got a late start to skiing and arrived just as their special (biscuits and sausage gravy) was being taken off the special board because they'd run out. Our server told us that they could make a small order if we still wanted to try it. The "small" order was huge and made my husband's day!

We love the Mint. Great homemade food that has wonderful taste. Get the old standards or try a new special, they are all wonderful. Staff is always friendly and wiling to serve. Owners, Joe & Mary have poured their heart and souls opinion this place and it shows.
