Why do I like this place? Its hard to put my finger on it. Its like Perkins and Cracker Barrel had a baby. Your parents adopt that baby and give it to you for your birthday and you invited your friends over to run it. Your best friend decides to put a little knick knack store right inside the place. Everybody picks their favorite item to put on the menu. Well, however it started, its in the right spot for me (3 hrs into a 5 hr drive) and has good coffee. The food has ranged from ok to great over the years. I have always been treated well here.

Didn't get past the 5 minutes standing at the "Please wait to be seated" sign in the nearly empty restaurant where two different staff members looked at us and kept going. No greeting, no "Be with you in a minute". No business from this family.

Emma Krumbees in Wausau WI provided us some of the worst service we've seen in many years. It took well over a half hour to get our food - with no explanation - and it was cold when served. The waitress and manager then acted as if we were out of line to be upset. My wife and I stopped there for breakfast on Monday, 10 August 2015. After ordering, we waited over 25 minutes - in a restaurant that had empty tables - and asked the waitress about our order. She told us 'they were taking it up now'. 10+ minutes later, our food arrived. My breakfast skillet was cold; some vegetables in it were nearly refrigerator temperature. The waitress nowhere to be seen, I went to the kitchen door to find her. When she came out and I told her, she replied 'it can't be cold, I saw them take it up'. Returning to our table, my wife shared her food (at least it was warm) with me. A 'manager' (Brandon) came over and asked if there was a problem; after I described the problem, he offered the excuse that there was a large table of customers on the other side of the restaurant that caused the kitchen to back up. I declined a replacement order (not having another 45 minutes to spend even if I wanted it). In response to my wife's query about compensation, he said he 'could take something off' the bill. He returned a few minutes later and, seeing my essentially untouched plate near the edge of the table, told us he could take off the entire charge (for my meal) if I wasn't going to eat any of it. Of course, we never saw the waitress after she had told me the food couldn't be cold. We've been to many restaurants that are busy and cannot serve their customers quickly, and have no issue with having to wait (ok, sometimes it is aggravating, but we don't blame the server or the manager). A brief explanation from our waitress any time during our wait would have at least eased the initial tension. Maybe the restaurant has many deadbeat customers who eat part of their food then complain in hopes to get it for free; more likely, most customers are 'just' passing through and don't need to be treated with respect. Our recommendation to travelers in the Wausau area is to go to somewhere else for a meal.

Let me make it short for all of you. Really bad service, consistently. Really bad food. The desserts look good, but I did not try them. They're much better places to find a good breakfast in this town. I will never be going back here.

We were just driving through the area and took a chance stopping for a late breakfast. The place was packed but we got in pretty quickly. We were shocked at how good the food was. My husband had an omelet that he said was the best he has ever had. I tasted it and agreed with him. I had the raspberry stuffed French Toast and it was out of this world! Most breakfast places taste pretty much the same but this one is definitely different. Our waitress was extremely customer focused. I didn't realize that what I ordered had stopped being served at 11am although the regular breakfasts are served all day. She went back to the kitchen to check and they agreed to make it for me. I also usually have to send back my bacon because it's so under done even when I request it well done. It was cooked perfectly and had a fabulous flavor. We were nicely surprised by this restaurant and will make a point of stopping here again when we travel through the area.

I know there food is good but $18 for a veggie omelette, 2 meat, no toast no hashbrowns..for $18. This is Wausau not Chicago. Went to IHop across the street got the same thing for $14, they didn't charge for things I wasn't getting

I had out of town guests who were going to hit the slopes later that day, so we wanted to find some place that offered both hearty fare, but also had vegetarian options. I ordered the eggs with chicken friend steak. Both were good, but the toast was a little dark for my taste. I also asked that my hash browns be extra krispy. For some reason the cook did this for the other 2 breakfast orders, but not mine. My husband ordered biscuits and gravy, and they were cold when served. He had to find the waitress to get her to have them reheated. Others in our party order burgers, omlets or sandwiches, and all were pretty good, but not all the food was as hot as it should be. I was not pleased with the room temperature food, but this may be a result of having a party of 7. It was strange that having lunch at 2:00 pm involved a long wait for our food. We were one of only 6 tables filled at this restaurant. The food still tasted good despite the delays. I also noticed that their salad choices looked delicious (someone near us ordered one). I think we will give good old Emma another shot at our business.

Heard good things about this place, but was very let down. First off the coffee cup they pour for us had lipstick on the outside...this can happen to any restaurant...but then, the spoon had (what looked to be cheese) on it. The sausage patty tasted "old"and was over cooked and the service was just very average. The food is not good, maybe the pies are slightly better but it's best to avoid this place.

I was extremely excited to try this restaurant today because I was looking for a good breakfast. I went by myself and when I walked into the entrance it took over 5 minutes for anyone to acknowledge my presence. Once someone did, the girl asked for my name. I gave her my name and continued to stand there for over 10 minutes. Another girl came up and asked me if I'd been helped. I told her "yes, and it's only me, so can I just sit at the counter?" She then suggested that was a great idea. So I sit at the counter and wait another 5 minutes for someone to bring me a menu. Ten minutes later the waitress takes my order. I decided to order the eggs benedict and 5 minutes later my waitress showed up. She asked me if I wanted a drink and then took my order once she brought my drink to me. I got my eggs benedict (if you want to call it that) 15 minutes later. The presentation was horrendous! She brought me a mound of hollandaise sauce that was literally dripping off of the plate as she was carrying it out. I seriously thought I was on an episode of Hell's Kitchen and I was waiting for Chef Ramsey to ask the chefs who served me horse shit! SERIOUSLY, I thought this was a nightmare or joke. For those of you that don't know how eggs benedict is made it should have English muffins with POACHED eggs, CANADIAN bacon and hollandaise sauce. What did I get at Emma Krumbee's? I got two hard English muffins with 2 thin slices of LUNCHMEAT HAM, 2 eggs cooked OVER EASY and a mound of store bought hollandaise. SERIOUSLY, guys? For $9.00 you really need to get this right! I took one bite of the dish and was so disgusted I just sat there waiting for the waitress to come and ask me how everything was. She didn't, so I walked out. I walked out in front of her and the restaurant manager and NO ONE asked me if something was wrong! I wasted almost an entire hour just trying to get a good breakfast. I will NOT return! Horrible service, nauseating food and unbelievable presentation.

This is a nice little place I stop by on the way back to Illinois from northern Wisconsin. The Positive: The food is very good. My vegetarian fiance said she had the best veggie omlet of her life here. The burgers are hand-formed and delicious, and the shakes are great as well. All the food I and my family has had here is solid. The service was good as well. Our waitress was kind every time I have come. The atmosphere is cute with a grandma's kitchen kind of thing going for it. Price is not bad, with a burger and milk shake costing about $10. The negative: This place is usually busy. You may have to wait a bit when you show up, and the food may be a little slow getting out of the kitchen. The bathroom is also down the hall into the hotel that is attached, so that is a bit odd. Overall: I will be stoping here again, and would reccomend this to anyone passing through Wausau.

My friends and I love going to Emma Krumbees when we're up in Wausau. The service is usually very good, and the food is great! Fun, country ambiance and lots of families and young adult friends eating here make it a great place for a relatively quiet brunch before snowboarding/skiing. The only reason it's not 5 stars is because the service can be slow sometimes. I definitely recommend Emma's, though!

Our family stopped here on our way up to The U.P. to sli and on our way back. We had 10 of us. We could not have asked for better service and the food was great.
