I've eaten at the original Dickey's in Dallas many times. A wonderful BBQ experience. Finding good BBQ in the Midwest can be a challenge, so I was very happy to see a Dickey's location here in Wausau. As for the food itself, it is very, very good. The brisket has a smoke ring; the ribs are tender, but not fall off the bone. (that's a good thing). The fried okra is wonderful as are most of the other sides. Really good barbeque does not need sauce, and the brisket here meets that test. I love the fact they include pickles and onion without being asked. The staff is friendly, but it's not a burger joint, so don't ask. (I saw someone looking for a cheeseburger while I was there. Good grief.) The only drawback I experienced was that the line chef will chop your brisket unless you tell them not to do so. They'll also trim the fat unless you tell them not to. That is a major faux pax in the barbeque world. All in all, this is very, very good 'que for north central Wisconsin and an excellent place to dip your toe if you are not familiar with this type of food.

For a BBQ chain? This is my favorite and this particular one seems, so far, to be just as delicious as any other Dickey's! For lunch we had a brisket sandwich, a pork sandwich, coleslaw and potato salad. The sandwiches were delicious. My only complaint here and at all Dickey's is their buns are a bit too dense for me. I prefer white bread or a lighter bun. While the potato salad has a great flavor, the potatoes were a bit too firm. Coleslaw is basic and delicious, just as it should be! We'll be back. Probably tonight for dinner. What an absolutely awesome addition to Wausau! Seems like we've been waiting for it to open forever and it's finally here and did not disappoint! Yay!

I should preface this by saying that I love Dickey's Barbecue, I have visited several other Dickey's restaurants and would give 4-5 stars for all of those. Except this one. First off, the staff was extremely rude starting when we entered the door. The young staff seemed more interested with their own conversations rather than help their customers. The food was unlike any other Dickey's I've ever visited. I'm accustomed to Dickey's supplying copious amounts of BBQ, which in this case, did not occur. The restaurant, especially the restrooms were dirty and unkept. To top off the disappointing venture, the ice cream machine was broken. Perhaps something that could not be helped, but definitely further dampened our visit. If this had been my first visit to a Dickey's restaurant, I would not ever go to a Dickey's again. Instead, I will avoid this particular location.

Go there eat a lot. Go back eat even more. If they're not the best there's none better!! Wausaw get out and support a great place.

Been here a few times-decent ribs, but not smoky enough for my taste. Wish the ribs tasted as good as the place smells outside! My wife and I ran a very successful restaurant for years and you learn that part of it is "theater". You don't have to be intentionally dishonest with your customers, but you don't show them everything, just like seeing how sausage is made is probably not going to do your appetite any good. At Dickey's, when you order ribs, they reach into the cooler and pull out pre-cooked plastic-wrapped cold ribs to heat up (microwave I imagine, considering how fast a got my order- cold food heated in an oven takes 15-20 minutes). I guess the reason it really annoys me is that there is commercial kitchen equipment (Alto-Sham) that that holds meat at a specific temperature and humidity for hours. A lot more expensive than a microwave, but a hell of a better resulting product as well. Restaurants that serve prime rib almost have to have them, because prime rib is volatile if not held at a specific temperature/humidity. It's too bad they don't have enough respect for their product to treat it accordingly.

The service was fine, guy sliced brisket from the exact spot I desired, brisket was falling apart but with a hint of moisture but with little essence of any smoke flavor, when combined with the original sauce the sandwich was on the salty side. Didn't try any sides but the fries looked like they had been sitting for a while - - too bad that this is the standard for bbq in the Wausau area

Probably the most authentic BBQ in the north woods. Even when we lived down South we ate at Dickey's once in a while and it compared favorably to the local joints. A little pricey for fast food, but so worth it. Service at this particular location is friendly if not always speedy.

We stopped in on Monday for my first time ever. All of the food was very delicious. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Two tips... 1- Get onion tanglers as a side and then put them on your sandwich. 2 - Save room for the free ice cream!

This was the first time that we luckily stumbled upon this restaurant. The waitstaff was extremely helpful because the menu is a bit different. The food comes quickly so I would categorize it as fast food barbecue. I ordered the two meat plate which comes with two sides & a roll for about $11.00. There are sandwich options which are around $7. I chose Beef Brisket & Pulled Pork. They were excellent! The Beef Brisket was amazing! For my sides, I chose green beans & a potato dish. The green beans were ok & need more spices. The potato dish was great. My husband chose turkey & spicy cheddar sausage. He thought that they were ok. I guess that I wouldn't choose turkey though when you go to a barbecue place. We both felt that this restaurant was a great find. I'm not docking them any stars for my husbands food because I think that they offer this to appease the people that don't want barbecue. Go & enjoy. Just as good if not better than the barbecue places in the south.

One of the better chain BBQ restaurants. We have eaten at a couple of these now and they always have good food. The sweet sauce is the best. And make sure to try the sweet tea. You will not be disappointed.

Our motto is: Low expectations. Even with low expectations this place was a major disappointment. The person who took our order over the phone had to put me on hold to find a piece of paper and a pen and I had to repeat the potato order twice as he had no clue what I was asking for. If you've ever had true Texas BBQ you would know this a pale imitation. It's a slap in the face to Wausau folks who want to try real BBQ but are getting bubkus. The rack of ribs had no fat, very little smoke flavor and as the rest of the meal, overly salty. The baked potatoes were palitable but certainly not worth 8 bucks. My brisket consisted of 2 1/2 pieces of meat, cut with the grain instead of against , and the ham was no different than what you buy at the grocery store. The onion strings were not crispy and were so oversalted they were inedible. We spent $50 and feel totally ripped off. If you want good Q head to Jim's in Wisconsin Rapids. Now that's good eating.
