Whenever I return to Wisconsin to visit family I try to swing by the Gasthaus. The food is of high quality and very tasty. The schwein haxe is very good. The only thing I would like to see is the "traditional" German salad you get at many German restaurants. But that's just a small thing. I would recommend this as one of the better German restaurants in the Milwaukee area.

Descriptive phrase: authentic, upscale German dinner hall. Don't let the encroaching suburbia surrounding the Gasthaus throw you off, this unique chalet-looking building was here first and has been serving up the goods for a long time. I was meeting family for a birthday dinner and was able to look around a bit before they got there. There's a homey bar with plenty of space, as well as a high-ceilined dinner hall with German historical artifacts. You'd never know such a neat (if not dimly-lit) setting were just across the street from a Denny's and Arby's. Service was fantastic, making you feel like you were a high roller. The food followed suit. My Weissgerber Amber (from Steven's Point, $4.50 pint) was one of the better ambers I've had recently, and fit well with the local German flavor. I ordered the Gasthaus Platter ($26.50) to get a taste of a variety of things they had to offer. My large plate was filled to the brim with rouladen (beef roll wrapped around house stuffing), wiener schnitzel (flat veal patty breaded and deep-fried), and smoked sausage, with sides of sauerkraut, red cabbage, and spatzle (German noodles). The rouladen was a bit unique compared to my usual tastes, and the stuffing made the beef dish a bit heavier and drier (though not to a fault). The wiener schnitzel was good, but was not a stand-out in the meal. The smoked sausage looked like a longer and less-plastic hotdog, but tasted infinitely better. Paired with the side mustard, it was delicious and just gamey-enough. The amount or red cabbage was a bit much for me, but it went well with the rouladen. I never eat sauerkraut, but I had all of this dish's. It was just that tasty. The spatzle was spatzle, you can't really go wrong here. Having been to other authentic German restaurants that I wasn't crazy about, I was hesitant. But the Gasthaus assuaged all my fears; the food and service could not have been more spot-on. Best German food I've had in Milwaukee area yet.

Loved this place. Definitely reserve for a celebration, anniversary... Some occasion where you really want to treat yourself and want an expensive, high-end meal. Menu had a good balance of traditional German fare as well as options for pickier eaters. The Riesling was one of the best I've ever had, too, and the drinks were actually pretty reasonable in comparison to the atmosphere & meal prices.

Eat diner here while visiting Milwaukee with our granddaughters. We usually dine at a couple other German Restaurants in downtown but thought we would take a chance since we were staying on the west side. GLAD WE TOOK THE CHANCE. Diner and service was excellent. We both had the Pork Shank that was big enough to share. Excellent comfort food. We will return.

Weisgerber's Gasthaus is one of our favorite dining places by far. While we have enjoyed their hospitality on other times of the week, we really like going for their fish frys on Fridays. The restaurant serves principally traditional German cuisine, and the building is beautifully decorated in German decor. They do a wonderful job of decoration throughout the year, and it gives the place an extremely charming and cozy feel. There are several areas that you can be seated in: The main dining room, which is a lovely room full of stained glass, huge German beer steins, a fireplace, and several paintings. The upstairs is over the main dining hall, and if you are lucky, you can be seated at the balcony, which is a delightful overview of the place. The other area is a more secluded center section, which is more intimate feeling, but is not as nice for us. One standout feature that makes this an extremely special place is the accordion player, Marv Wunder, who is there on Fridays during the winter. With the fireplace lit, a stein of beer to sip, and Marv playing, you absolutely cannot help but smile. I've went to the Gasthaus after some crummy days at work and always left in high spirits. The fried cod on Friday is extremely good, with the batter being on the lighter taste, which I prefer. Fish portions are as as one would expect for a nice restaurant; they don't cut them to smaller sizes. My wife has also ordered the baked cod and found it to be very good - very tender and moist. The fish fry also comes with an enormous selection of sides: french fries, potato pancakes, bread, applesauce, cole slaw, and potato salad. Sometimes they also give fresh pretzels too. It's a wonderful selection of food, and everything is extremely tasty. Of particular note is the potato salad, which is the best I've ever had. My wife has also tried a number of the fish specials, and while they vary week to week, she has always commented on how delicious it is. We have also tried the more traditional German meals, and all have been good. The Sausage Variety plate is quite good, as is their Wiener Schnitzel. The service has been great as well. The waitresses are extremely pleasant and do a good job of checking to see if they can bring you anything. They have recommended several dishes and beer varieties to try (try the Back 40 from New Glarus or Paulaner Hefe-Weizen), and they have been spot-on. If I had to list some of the negatives, I would say that due to popularity, it is sometimes a longer wait to get seated, and there isn't much space to wait in other than the bar, which can be crowded. This is mostly a nitpick, though; You want to go where other people are frequenting - it's a sign that it's a good place. And people LOVE to frequent the Gasthaus.

One of the finest German Restaurants Ive ever ever been at. Great Menu, Food was outstanding. Service was excellent.. The Bartender was a real pro and the decor in the great room "es wunderbar! I have been to many, many German Restaurants in the midwest and even Germany and The Gasthaus is one of the best I have ever been to. No Schmidt!

Sausage sampler was tasty and so was the Reuben appetizer. The dessert sampler was also very good. The restaurant is very pricey but the ambiance is nice...makes you feel like you are in Germany in the old days. Our server was very sweet :)

Beautiful ambiance, European setting and marvelous food. I agree with everybody here that the Beef Rouladen was the best dish I have ever had in the recent times and I believe that's there specialty. I ordered the Saturday Night Special 3 dish dinner, and Beef Rouladen stood out the winner. Even though the place and atmosphere looks upscale but there were kids on pretty much 60% of the tables and we had little kids of our own. They behaved very nicely to my surprise and enjoyed there child menu items. Everybody was happy.

I've been here about a half dozen times, and the food is always excellent, the service is wonderful, and the atmosphere is one of my favorites. I highly recommend the Gasthaus.

Great potato salad!!!! I'd go back just for a bowl of that. The fish was good but the fries were soggy. Husband had the veal and he said it was excellent.

Our waitress, Sarah, was swamped when we were seated but handled the rush with finesse. The beers she suggested were right on and she made us feel like we were her only diners. The food was authentic and filling, but save room for dessert. You won't be disappointed!

The beef rouladen may be good, the fish fry however, is average at best. The food was served somewhere between cold and warm, took almost 30 min to get the meal onto the table. It seems the plate sat around awhile, the batter was soft and the fish was dry. I can't speak for the other food since this was my first and probably last dining experience at the gasthaus. As far as the atmosphere, I suppose if you like sitting in dark, some what cramped quarters then this is the place for you.

7 of us dined there hoping for a fun, delicious German meal and experience. Instead, service was slow and our waitress showed very little interest in her job. She wasn't unfriendly, exactly, just blah! Food was really terrible; Husband had fish fry- it was cold and tasteless. Shared German platter which was definitely a share plate, but they charge $6 to do so. Only enjoyed the sausage and the mustard was great. Otherwise, everything was greasy and flavorless. Potato pancakes arrived cold but probably would have been good if hot. Everything was overpriced and atmosphere was just ok. No returns here for us!!

This place was a wonderful treat. My wife an I decided to go here, because I was looking for a good hearty German meal after running a marathon hours before. I was pleased they they had Hofbrau on tap. The pretzel basket with the fried rye was outstanding. My wife ordered the Gasthaus sampler and I ordered the Beef Rouladen. I thoroughly enjoyed the Beef Rouladen, Spatzle, and red cabbage. The gravy was nice and thick and flavorful. The spatzle was cooked perfectly. The red cabbage complimented the savory flavors. My wife was so pleased with the the sampler, that she wants to make this a regular restaurant to go to. We live 110 miles away... The sampler had the Beef Rouladen, Smoked Sausage, and Wienerschnitzel. I must say the Wienerschnitzel tasted better than the Wienerschnitzel in Vienna (Wien). I would like to say that the food was worth the price. After eating in Germany and Austria for two weeks, Gasthaus stays true to the traditional Bavarian (Bayern) cuisine. I am blown away. I know my wife will make up a trip to come back to the area and stop by again. Thank you!

I've been here twice now and both times have had a great time. This is such a traditional German place. Your waitress wears a lederhosen, there is a good selection of beers and you must have the sausage sampler plate to start. The first trip we had sauerbraten and a goulash and this last time we had their pork shank and schnitzel. The food is always fresh, tasty and traditional. My one criticism is that it is very fancy, and I know that isn't really a criticism but usually when you want a beer and schnitzel you don't want white table cloths. But there is a bar area where I'm sure it's a little more casual. The food is good though and that is what is important.

  • Jenni L.

The space is nice, the service was acceptable. However, the food is over priced and not very good. The highlight was the pretzel in the bread basket. The fried rye bread in the basket tasted like old fryer grease and should have never been served. I got a pork chop with baked potato and house veg. I ate only a portion of the pork chop. My coworker got the beef rouladen and ate half of a roll. Bottom line? We won't be wasting our time or money here again.

Haven't had a bad meal yet, and I always make a point of eating here when I am in town. Sausages are great and I especially love the sauerbraten. Great beer selection too.

The fish sandwich. My God. Luscious fish fillet on marble rye WITH a potato pancake. Big enough to split. We mentioned we were torn between the German potato salad and the fries, so they bought both. The schaumtorte is delicate and crispy, perhaps the best I have ever had. Can't wait to try one of the German entrees as well. Great service and ambience.

I wanted to like this place more but three stars is all I could give. Very nice upscale place with nice German decor. I got there before the rush on a Saturday night but it filled up while I was there. Service was slow. It took 15 minutes after getting seated to ask who covers my table. The waiter was not the most enthusiastic chap I have met but did his job. The place is expensive, not sure why as German food is typically made from somewhat cheap things. The bread basket is good but the fried rye bread in the basket will stop your heart and I have never seen such a thing when in Germany. I had the sausage appetizer which was good with very good hot German potato salad plus hot mustard and a curry ketchup to sort of mimic the currywurst delicacy in Berlin I suppose. The entree was the house platter with weinershcntizel, a long skinny knackwusrt and a rouladen roll plus spaetzle and red cabbage plus sauerkraut. The schnitzel was decent but the roulden was not great. Growing up in a German family I never expect rouladen to be worth ordering as it never matches my mother's. This rouladen strangely had lunch meat thin meat slices wrapped around ground beef with brown gravy. Rouladen should be round steak pounded thin and wrapped around bacon, onions, hot mustard and a large pickle slice with a brown oniony gravy. This was not even close and overall, quite salty. I travel to Germany at least 1-2 times per year and possible I have become a bit of a German food snob but whatever. The red cabbage was good and even had apple chunks in it as it should. The sauerkraut was limp and too sour like it came from a can. Decent selection of beers here though and they were able to make me a radler which is a pils and lemonade mix. Overall was not terrible but would not make a point to find this place again.

  • Chris B.

I liked the way the red cabbage was prepared- almost creamed. The cheese spread appetizer was also good- with the pretzels. It is a nice place to relax from a tough week, but not too often- a bit pricey.

Glad I went on Yelp to decide where to eat. Gasthaus was across the street from my hotel so I only had to walk across the street for the best meal I have had on the road in months (and I travel every week for my job). The hostess seated me next to the fireplace. The server noticed my candle was out and quickly exchanged it for another (a detail ignored in so many other places I've been). The rye fries and warm pretzel while waiting for my food was a pleasant surprise and the meal itself was the "thought I'd died and gone to heaven" type experience.

This is one of the best German restaurants in the Milwaukee area, hands down. My wife and I tried the sauerbraten, and it was like an ideal of how good sauerbraten can be. The beef was incredibly tender, the sauce thick and rich, and the spaetzle was cooked to perfection. The red cabbage had the right balance of flavors, and the sauerkraut was great. The service was courteous and quick, and the ambiance warm. We hope to return whenever it's possible!

My parents were in town for the weekend wanting to celebrate some Birthdays so we decided to try the Gasthaus for dinner. We've been here before for their fabulous fish fry and thoroughly enjoyed it with our friends and kids in tow. This was a Saturday evening dinner for adults and kids. I was able to get reservations in advance to ensure a nice table. I also wanted to confirm that they were able to provide gluten free options for both my husband and son. Our table was very nice in the elaborately German styled room with a cozy fireplace. Our boys loved the decor and the crayons and coloring sheets were a big help. Our server was very helpful but may have had too many tables because we often had to wait for her service. A note to all restaurants, when a table has children, please check in often and be quick with the food and bill. Although we would have liked to sit back and relax that's not often possible with three well behaved but younger boys. Anyway, Our server stated that she was aware of our gluten allergies and was knowledgeable of what the menus option for this diet. Another note to all restaurants, please provide one gluten free option on the children's menu that is appealing. Not just a bun less hamburger or hot dog. This is a very under diagnosed allergy but becoming much more prevalent. OK, the food. Great for German i guess, just wished i liked German food more. I ordered the German sample platter. It was nice to choose three from the six i think, choices for my plate. My choices were Sauerbraten, the Weissgerber smoked brat and wiener schnitzel. I did enjoy the red cabbage side and sauerkraut. The spatzle was good too. All of my choices were good and i shared with my family. I can't say that i would order it again, i just prefer a different taste than German food. My mom and husband ordered the tuna. My husband has had tuna many times and said that it was OK but not the best that he's had. My mom has never had tuna and wasn't a fan. My dad ordered the Almond chicken special and said it was good but he really didn't rave about it so i think he was just being polite. He did enjoy the side of brussel sprouts that came with it. They kids menu had a nice variety if you have a nonallergic child. The gluten free kid ordered a hot dog. He actually liked the German style hot dog! They offered him mashed potatoes or roasted instead of fries which was also nice. He was happy with the mashed. Our second son ordered a cheeseburger which came on a pretzel bun which he found to be super cool but too much to eat. He just finished off his meal today for lunch. Finally, our youngest ordered the spatzel and cheese which is similar to mac & cheese. He liked it but had filled himself up on pretzel so he had leftovers for lunch also. Having kids i was happy that they were able to also provide a lidded beverage for my youngest. Some German music for ambiance would have been nice. Overall, we enjoyed our meal. It was a little pricier than expected but left satisfied. If you like German food or a GREAT fish fry I would recommend the Gasthaus.

An all time favorite. No matter what I've tried, I've always been happy. From the bar menu to the specials, you can't go wrong. One of the best burgers ever, topped with onion strings and blue cheese. Even the french fries are amazing. Always great customer service. AND a german chocolate martini! Live polka in the dining room on Friday and a car show on Wed. I think I need to go there NOW!

I have lived in the area most of my life, driven by thousands of times and finally decided to try Gasthaus. Went on Friday around 6:30, they where packed waited about 30 min for table. Great selection of beer to pass the time. Bar and restaurant are cool old school German decor. Finally got to table spent some time looking over menu as we didn't see our waiter for maybe 15 min. Ordered a beer, soda for the rest of the group. Also ordered dinner at this time. Sodas came out with some pretzels and fried rye bread along with cream cheese spread. Pretzels are average spread was fantastic. Dinner finally arrived, still waiting for my beer. I had fish fry. Fish was good but at 16 I would expect great. Nothing wrong with it but $16 is a bit high for a $10 fish fry. Also at the table, NY strip, zwiebel steak and lamb shank. NY and Zwiebel steak where very good Lamb shank good, tender sauce was a little strong not bad but unexpected and different. Oh ,finally got my beer! Gasthaus is a cool place and worth a look, service is poor so be prepared to be patient. Little pricey for what you get but food is good. I hear they have a cool car night on Wednesday and a prime rib special, I may try this.

Great atmosphere, fantastic decor. Sausages were good, but all were smoked vs. fresh. The Reuben appetizer was good, but a bit greasy. Pretzels and rye toasts very tasty.

Absolutely delicious food and great ambience!!!! Try the flammkuchen, spinach salad with hot bacon dressing and combo platters. They won't disappoint! Have never seen flammkuchen (German pizza with caramelized onions, bacon and cheese) outside of Germany. The red cabbage is the best I've ever had. Portions are large and combo platters are great for sharing.

  • Walter M.

Nice atmosphere and service. However, the German dishes were mediocre to poor, and very pricey. The Jaeger Schnitzel was closer to Pork Teriyaki than anything Deutsche. The Weiner Schnitzel was limp and flavorless. However, the steaks and sausages were good. It was definitely not worth the half hour drive from Milwuakee, which abounds with so many good restaurants.

Weisgerber's restaurants are always a treat, and this is one of my favorite places to stop for a Friday night fish fry. I've also dined here on the weekends for private parties as well, and enjoyed some of their other cuisine. They have excellent warm pretzels, schnitzel, and spatzels. I really don't think that you could go wrong here! One of the hostesses is just fabulous, her name is Leslie. There is just something about her that makes her so easy to talk to, like she's been your friend for many years, and many years to come.

Went to Gasthaus for the first time. Based on the reviews I would expected a bit better food. I thought the service was great, the atmosphere was good, but the food lacked the flavor I expected. It does have all you can eat fish fry with all the regular fixings for $16. I would say that it was an average Wisconsin fish fry. Nothing to write home about. The Reuben rolls were tasty but were also too greasy. The spinach salad comes with bacon dressing with clumps of bacon in it that you have to pour on the salad yourself - just doesn't look very appetising but it tasted fine. We might give it another try but won't be rushing back.

went here a week or so ago for a friday night dinner date and both of us absolutely LOVED this place!! it was both of our first times here, and we were very impresesd with the service, atmosphere, and quality of the food we were served. we had about a 20 minute wait to get a table, which we were more than happy to spend in the bar. i wasn't sure which german beer i liked, so the bartender (don't recall his name) let me try a sample of one first to make sure i liked what i ordered. i thought that was such a thoughtful thing to do...so definitely 5 stars for the bar :) then we were seated and our waitress (julia i believe??) made sure we knew all about the specials and what was on the menu. she helped me pick out what to order, since everything sounded amazing!! i ended up with the beef rouladen, and OMG it was probably one of the best things i have ever eaten. i was absolutely delicious!!! i don't think i'll ever be able to get anything else here...it was that good. the second my boyfriend saw sauger on the fish fry menu, he stopped looking. he was very impressed that gasthaus offered this. he absolutely loved it as well...i tried it too, and although i rarely like fish, i thought it was delicious!! as for the service that previous people have complained about....this place was very busy on friday night, and you could tell the servers were working their tails off, but everyone was beyond nice and helpful to us and even if some things took a couple extra minutes it was worth it. our server was wonderful...and we will definitely be back :)

The restaurant was decorated lovely for Christmas. I had the shank and it was perfect! It was better than I have had in Munich. My husband had the Walleye pike and it was perfect! Everyone else at the table seemed to be happy with their selections. It is pricey but I had enough to take home for another meal. I can't imagine ordering an appetizer or salad...the portions are huge.

Friday night all you can eat fish fry for $15.95. The fish was cod and very good. Came with rye bread (good but not great), potato pancakes (good but not great), cole slaw (excellent), and potato salad (excellent). Excellent service. Excellent value.

Definitely get the pork shank, it is delicious with crisp skin and a side of red cabbage. Also great fish fry. You feel like you're right in Germany when you're sitting at your table.

I'm in town on business and decided to eat here tonight. One of the locals told me it was a nice place. The decor and atmosphere are really nice, it's unfortunate that the food stinks. I ordered the wiener schnitzel. The schnitzel itself was extremely thin and of poor quality. The breading separated right off the meat and didn't taste like anything really. The cabbage was absolutely awful. I wonder if a raccoon would even eat it. Two half bites and I was done. The spatzle was so-so, not enough to save this disaster. The two stars are for the building. I really don't understand the high marks other people give this place.

We went here on a Friday night with some friends for a fish fry, there was 4 of us. We were told a 30 minute wait and it ended up being 50 minutes. If you're going here on a Friday night you have to have some patience because it's generally busy. We waited the time out on the patio. The food was good, I like the family style serving. The potato salad was very good and I thought the potato pancakes were very good. The atmosphere is nice with a live accordion music playing (not too loud) and the setting is very German - very nice. The dark side of the evening was the waitress service who pretty much ignored us the entire night. I found this particularly irritating. We had to wait for everything - drink order, drinks, meal order, meal, check, check pick up, etc. We basically got our food served and that was it. We never saw her again. She never came back to check on us for the entire meal to see how we were doing or get another round of drink orders or more food. One platter of all you can eat fish was it for us. It was literally 'all we could eat'. We had to hunt her down for the check and then when she didn't come to pick up the credit card info we again had to deliver the bill. Very frustrating. It's too bad when a restaurant experience gets a bad mark because of the wait staff. It didn't appear they were short staffed, we just had a lousy waitress. I've shared this story with some friends and apparently I'm not alone in this experience. Everyone else in the place seemed to be having a good time but we were isolated and that spoiled an otherwise nice evening with friends.

Ate here for dinner on business. I had the Sausage Variety plate. My associate had the Wild Caught Salmon. This was some of the best food I've eaten in a long time. The service was excellent. The decor is German. Think Ski Lodge with fireplace, cathedral ceilings, second floor balcony .... This is definitely a special place. If your every in the Milwaukee / Waukesha area, make sure to stop at the Gasthaus.

Went in to try the fish fry. Really nice place inside and we were seated immediately. We couldn't figure out why it wasn't busier as we arrived at 7pm. I ordered the Weissgerber's Amber beer which they have made for them and it is very good. Before bringing the fish itself they serve the rye bread, cole slaw, and potato salad. All of these were delicious. Much better than most fish frys. The rye bread has a salted crust which really adds something. The fish comes out with the french fries and potato pancakes. The fries and the potato pancakes were very good, as well. After all this great food inexplicably the fish is only so-so. I have met and talked with Hans Weissgerber who owns The Golden Mast, another of his families restaurants. He told me the secret to good fried fish is too cook it fresh. Otherwise, he said, the fish will curl up. This fish was curled up, slightly dry, and some had a fishy taste. The batter wasn't anything special either. I'm not saying it was terrible but why they would drop the ball here made no sense to us. Obviously, they could do better.

Food was good, but the service was so bad I would never go back. Had a table of 6. They said they could seat us in 10 minutes, ended up being 20-30. Our total time in the restaurant was over 2 hours. It took so long for the waiter to take our order we were just on the verge of getting the check and going someplace else. Instead we toughed it out and boy do I regret it. While the food had some great flavors, the service was so slow I would never recommend this place to anyone.

What a great find walking distance from our hotel. This looked good from the road, and boy were we glad we stopped. The food was excellent, the staff was great, and the wine was fantastic! It was not very crowded and a little late, but boy was it a good time! I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a good sit down meal.

Usually a 4 or 5 star experience at the bar, today my sandwich substitution would have cost $6 more (funny, other nites there was no charge). So instead I ordered a pretzel with cheeses (smoked gouda & melted cheddar) and the pretzel quality was very good but I prefer the 'Obatzer' cheese found at other Milwaukee area German restaurants (Old Town Inn, Cafe Bavaria), the smoked gouda does not cut it! The beer on tap is great. Maybe we'll do better next time?

Had the Thanksgiving Turkey dinner......... Read many great reviews, the ambiance, service EXCELLENT. The breads, soups, Pretzel's, mashed potatoes, vegetables were delicious. The turkey however was horrible, dry almost jerky dry - nasty. Our wonderful waitress brought us another selection of turkey was a tad better..... just disappointing given how great everything else was. We will give it another try (without the turkey) soon.

Meh is right, I have definitely experienced better.....and with reasonable prices. The Wiener Schnitzel should be the best item on any German restaurants menu. For $28.00 I was served two large, flat, greasy schnitzels with little flavor. The breading was greasy and flat. True schnitzel has a light crispy breading with texture. This tasted like it was sitting in a bath of warm grease. Zero texture with the breading falling off, separating from the meat. The Spätzle was just ok, considering the Schnitzel I just had it was at least edible. I sent the Schnitzel back and order a sausage plate appetizer. It was Ok. My wife's fish fry was a little better than my schnitzel, but she was not impressed either. Fish was over fried and it appeared to be fried in old grease. The coloring was very dark, not the usual golden brown we experience in a region that lives off Wed and Fri Fish Fry's. All in all, it was a forgettable experience, go to Maders in Downtown Milwaukee for at least a more consistent experience. Prices are still high, for some reason German food here is expensive. By the Way - I don't want to be "that guy", who visited Germany/Austria and had the best Schnitzel, so everything is compared to that level...........But, I will for a sec. Travel 7-8 times per year to Munich, DE / Innsbruck, AUS and yes the Schnitzel and Spätzle is just incredible. Its also like ordering a Hamburger here, it doesn't break the bank at $28 or 30 per plate.

I love this place! Over the holidays, they have a roaring fire and lots of old world decorations. The service is always great; helpful and friendly and even nice to small kids. The servers are knowledgeable about food ingredients (annoying food allergy person) and make good suggestions. You know by reading the other reviews that this place has fantastic german food. If you haven't been, you should try it. The bread tastes like my childhood. seriously, the fried bread is just like Grandma used to make, literally. I have never made it to dessert, I eat so much food every time I go. Next time, I plan to eat just appetizers and dessert!

This is definitely one of my favorite German restaurants around. The ambiance is great, the waitress was one of the best I've had and the food is authentic. I wish I could remember the name of my dish, but it was two breaded veal cutlets topped with crab meat and smothered in a tangy hollandaise sauce. It came with risotto, which was average. I've never had anything like it before. I don't think it was an authentic German dish but it doesn't matter. My wife had the wiener schnitzel and she enjoyed it very much as well. I grew up in a very German family, so I've had a lot of German food through the years. This is the way that German food should be! To top it off there was an awesome accordion player to help set the mood, polka will never die!

I can't get enough German food when I'm in Milwaukee and fish fries are a must on Fridays! I met my sister-in-law here for a nice fish fry Friday and wasn't disappointed. Couldn't even finish my first round of fish and it's all-you-can-eat! The potato pancakes were good and the fries were very tasty. I usually don't care for cole slaw but it was actually pretty good. ANd best of all, our server, Becky, was awesome!

We had reservations for 5 p.m. on Valentines Day. Got in just before it started getting really busy. The service was excellent and it's a pretty cool place - nice authentic feel. The food was also really good. I had the pork shank with all the classic German fixings. It's a ton of meat. If you're looking for classic German fare, give this hearty dish a try. My wife had the Chicken Riesling. We both thought it was very tasty. They also served complimentary deep fried bread and a soft pretzel for getting started.

Fun atmosphere, with flavor of its own. The resturant was quite busy but I don't see that as a bad thing. Waitress was friendly knowing when to come and go. Had the fish fry was incredible. The potatoes . Only complaint would be prices, but the food just taste to good to complain.

I live in Chicago and miss the Friday night fish fry. I would recommend sitting at the bar if you can find a spot as the service for dinner is really quick and the bar tenders are very attentive and entertainment. I only go here for the fish fry and would recommend it as it brings back fond memories of great times in Wisconsin.

I am not a big fan of meat, so I wanted to go with something safe. I had the filet, and it was seriously one of the best steaks I've ever eaten. I didn't even need steak sauce the only thing that wasn't totally amazing was the asparagus, just because some of the stalks were too thick. The service was good, the atmosphere was good, and the overall experience was good. My boyfriend and I lived in waukesha most of our younger to young adult years, and this was our first time here. We will definitely be back!

Amazing food. Started off with the snails, wonderful flavor. The perfect balance of garlic. They served brad and pretzels which were very good. Ordered the sampler. The sauerkraut is the right texture and sour flavor. I am not a fan off red cabbage but this is very good. The rest of the food is just as I would expect it is as though I was back in Germany. The service is very good. Sara was very good to make me feel welcomed.

Just meh. Got the jäger schnitzel which was basically two large porkchops in a gravy. Don't get me wrong, the porkchops were well done, just not a true schnitzel. Food tasted good, just not as authentic as you might expect from looking at the place. Pretty pricey for the dish, $26. Service was good. Ambiance was good.

This is, without a doubt, the best German food I've ever had outside of Germany. There is so much to enjoy about eating here. For starters, the space itself. Whether you're in the bar, dining room,or patio, the space is so pleasing to the eye. Lots of murals, clocks, paintings, and beautiful wood paneling. In winter they build a fire in the fireplace. The effect is very welcoming. It is an authentic representation of what the restaurants in Germany are like. The service has always been exceptional. Servers are prompt, respectful, but non intrusive. Your water glass will never be empty, you won't wait long to order, or to pay. Management is always out there too, making sure things are done right. They offer a nice selection of German beers and other cocktail temptations. I'm not much of a drinker, so I can't comment on more then to say the drink menu is 4 pages long. The food is incredible, just magnificent. Whether you go with Wurst, Schnitzel, or something else, it's all incredible. I generally go with the Gasthaus Platter, which includes a bit of Wurst, Schnitzel, and a cut of their wonderful Beef Rouladen. Like all good German restaurants, they have excellent Red Cabbage and Spatzel to go with most meals. I can't recommend this place highly enough, can't wait to go back soon.

They make some really great food. The atmosphere is a little dark. However, it seems to fit the German theme. Living in Germany for a few years it really does fit. The schnitzel is well worth it!
