We are in for the weekend from Chicago and this quickly became our spot. Read the reviews and had to try the burgers and tots. We were not disappointed. We split the loaded tots. Great. I got the bruschetta burger and he got the southwest. They were both great. The vinaigrette dressing was to die for. So good that we came back and got the bruschetta flat bread for lunch the next day. Staff is great. They get busy but still a great group. I will be back !

The Burgers here are delicious. The service was slightly slow but totally worth it for your wonderful burger.

Owner was on site, friendly and courteous. Guinness was clean and tasty. Food was fantastic and delicious. I'm from out of town, and was pleasantly surprised.

Ordered burger medium rare. Done perfect. Generous toppings Bone in wings meaty and took the suggestion of the server and got Caribbean Jerk. Crisp skin, generous well balanced seasoning. Fried pickle spears were generously seasoned and crisp. Funnel cake fries were a guilty pleasure. All around this place impressed and then some. Clean, comfortable, well lit. Music selection is classic 70's-90's rock. Guns b roses Aerosmith Bon jovi, led Zeppelin volume is kept that it doesn't inhibit conversation. All around great food, drink and experience!

This local bar and grill is a gem in the heart of Waukesha! After searching for a good burger restaurant in the area we decided to check out Mainstream. This place has now become our go-to stop for a GREAT burger! The entire backside of the menu features their "build your own" concept. Based on your main selection (beef, chicken, veggie, etc.) you can create your own burger with any combination of limitless toppings including fried egg, guacamole, bacon, cheese, sauces, and many others! They also offer a list of suggested combinations in case you're having trouble making a decision. Each burger comes with a side of tots or fries. The bar itself is not large so it can be difficult finding a table on a Friday or Saturday night. Also, keep in mind that everything is made on one grill top behind the bar by one of their great cooks so wait times could be longer if it's busy. Keep an open mind - this is a great local establishment with awesome food!

Burgers cooked from frozen pre made pattys. Cheese curds are a flavorless joke. The only thing worth eating here are the chips. - The customer experience was awkward with the staff ignoring you at the bar. The young kid working the bar was to involved with his vapor device to serve you, I had to ask him to help me he never offered. There were only two customers at the bar at this time. - If you enjoy cheap processed tasting food, this is the place for you.

This is one of my favorite places in Waukesha; the food is right, the beer is regional, and the atmosphere is what you've come to expect. It's a Wisconsin locals bar for all of us. I joined a group here for a boys night out dinner and drink session. We started off with what I would consider the most over the top tater tots I've ever had; a mound of tots covered in cheese, ranch, and bacon. You could say they were the ULTIMATE TOTS. We also did the cheese-curd thing, a Wisco standard. For dinner, I had the wing special. I had a few different sauces with mine, the Caribbean Jerk was my favorite. Some of the other guys got some of the famous burger varieties, they looked as good as they sound. The beer choices were also really good, I had the Lakefront Brewing red ale; prices were reasonable. If you're looking for a great place to grab a burger, wings, apps, and/or a brew, look no further the Mainstream. You won't be disappointed.

I've been several times now, and so far it's by far the best fresh angus burger place in Waukesha, plus great friendly service! I also always get the sweet potato fries with my usual Mushroom and Swiss Burger with a whole big mushroom cap on it, not a bunch of little mushrooms. Plus they sure don't skimp on anything at all! I would recommend this place to anyone that wants a great burger in the city of Waukesha. You have to at least go and try it once, and you WILL back again for more! Next time I really have to try their their "Tots' in which were explained to me as "Tots on steroids" Lol! I guess they have everything that a potato should have in along with it, bacon, sour cream, chives, and of course lots of cheese! This is a real treat for me when I eat like this, but when I do I go all out for night of yumminess on a rare occasion. :o)

I have to echo the sentiments of the previous posters. The food (thus far) has been great- the super tots are a Must. However, we've been waiting an hour, and counting, for our burgers- and the place is nowhere near packed. Not a place to hit if you're in any kind of time crunch. **update**- a half hour later and we were ready to walk out, and the food was finally brought to our table. We were given the excuse that "another table really had the kitchen backed up". You can see "the kitchen" from your table. What we saw was another table of two, who walked in about 45 minutes after us, get served, eat their entire meal, pay the bill and leave before we'd even gotten our food. And we saw the chef hurriedly preparing our food, which included chicken nuggets which took all of 7 minutes in a deep fryer. The quality of the food was decent, although the chips were cold by the time they got to us. You can find a better burger at a bunch of different places in Milwaukee. We won't be back.

Been here a few times.... It's a smaller place and it fills up quickly. We ate at the bar and still had great service. I got a special (the asian burger?) the first time I went in, and it's still one of the best burgers I've ever had. Great food, service, and atmosphere.

I hate to give it a 3 stars as i think it's going to hurt the overall rating, but i feel i need to. I came here on Thursday night to try a new place. Upon walking in the feel and vibe was really kind of neat, Nice inviting space some cool music stuff up on the walls. But it was HOT in their, granted it was nearly 80 outside but it was quite warm in the building, maybe middle of summer it's better? Service was pretty good especially being a bar. Got our drinks fast and our order placed in a hurry. Being thursday i did the wing special ($0.45 Bone in $0.55 boneless) on Tuesday and Thursday. So i got 6 (which is the minimum per sauce) of the Caribbean Jerk, 6 Buffalo and 6 Honey BBQ. as well as the homemade chips. We also agreed on getting the Super Tots for an App, my fiance ordered the BBQ Chicken Flatbread. a little while later the super tot's came out, They were awesome, Bacon,Ranch and Cheese covered tot's how can that not be good? Oh yeah it can't be. Little after finishing them the rest of the food came, and the wings were small, which was kind of a disappointment. But they were decent, the Jerk wings were good, and the Buffalo was pretty warm but easy to go down, the Honey bbq was good as well but a bit rich. The Homemade chips were very good though somewhat inconsistent as some were crunchy and hard, and some were pretty soft. My fiance got her BBQ Chicken flatbread which she asked for no onions and the entire flatbread was layered with onions on the bottom, so that was a big hit, though she scrapped them all off and ate the majority of the flat bread. Overall it's a middle of the road place. Ok Wings, Decent service. Good Apps. maybe next time i'm in the mood for a snack and a place to hang out i'll think of this place. But first impressions do a lot.

My boyfriend and I came here on a Friday night around 11:00 pm. The place wasn't super busy- seemed to be mostly regulars. The atmosphere was definitely calmer than some of the rowdier bars that are more geared towards the college crowd. It wasn't obnoxiously loud and we could actually hear each other while dining, but it was loud enough to enjoy the eighties (?) playlist they had playing. The servers and bartenders were both very friendly. The food menu has many tempting options, but ultimately we decided to split a black angus burger and substituted the sweet potato fries. The beers on tap seemed to be standard, and drink prices were comparable to other places in the area. In summary, our visit was very good and we will definitely be back for more due to the delicious food, great location/atmosphere, and servers.

Expensive but good food. Need to visit at least once. If your a first timer and don't like to stand or wait, go on a Weekday or a Sunday when there are no football games

Popped in to this place midweek for a quick meal with friends. I wasn't that hungry but the waiter Dan recommended the Super Tots. Had a couple beers while I waited. The tots were excellent with cheese, bacon and ranch sauce right on top of them. My two lady friends ordered custom burgers. This is what this place is famous for. The kitchen is right next to the bar, in fact it's built into the bar. The burgers are big and they look really tasty. Each week a new burger of the week is featured. Service was a little slow, but we didn't mind. At the end of our visit the karaoke DJ was starting to get warmed up.

Best burger I've ever had! They have sweet potato fries which are delicious! The staff is so friendly and courteous, good selection of beers and great ambience!

  • Sara F.

The wings and flatbread were good. It was hard to get the server's attention, they seemed to be paying more attention to the customers at the bar. Overall, it's a good place to catch the game with some friends and get some decent food.

  • Tom V.

Bad food and service with an attitude from the bartender. We keep trying to make this work since so many seem to like the overpriced - undercooked burgers but this was the final time. One of our meals was not edible and the response " it's not my fault".

Out shopping on a Saturday looking for lunch found this adorable bar and grill. Food was fantastic. Bartender was so friendly. Definitely a place to come back to

Great burgers where you build your own by selecting meat then cheese and 15 toppings and 16 dressings. Steak angus chicken veggie and tuna are the meat choices. All served with choice of home chips, tater tots , sweet potato fries or super tots (filled with cheese and bacon). I had the southwest which is off the chefs build list and it was amazing. This is your classic grill or bar grill and all cooked right there. A good variety of other main courses such as scallop tostadas. Also chicken wings which I will come back to try and write a review.

  • Jim L.

I need to say up front that my only connection to this place is eating here a couple times, I don't know the owner or any employees. In my opinion the burgers are excellent, among the best in town. The cheese curds are world class, only matched by The Great Dane in Madison. Good service too. I really tire of reading low rating reviews by wannabe restaurant critics nitpicking every f$$king bite they took. Especially the assclown whose fiance got onions when she ordered no onions. Do you know how to handle that, Mr. Nitpicky restaurant critic? YOU SEND IT BACK! Every kitchen makes mistakes, give them a chance to fix it. If they don't, then give them a low rating. Idiots like you don't understand that people who own indie restaurants usually have every penny they have on the line and work 80 hours a week. Then some jerk off gives them a low rating because his girlfriend can't be troubled to take onions off a sandwich. But you think you're a big man because you can give every place you eat a mediocre rating.

Mainstream takes bar burgers to a whole new level. With a build your own option-there's no shortage of choices. Atmosphere-I love the framed 80's vinyl-provided great conversation pieces and helped me re-live my live for 80s hair metal! Otherwise, lots of seating options with your standard barstools and high tops. Plenty of tvs to catch a game. Appeared clean and the open kitchen helps you know how your food is being made. Food-again-lots of burger options with a "build your own" (with a veggie black bean burger option) or suggested favorites. I got "the boss" which was a standard burger but with a fried egg in top. A friend said to try the chips, so I went for it. My recommendation-GET THE CHIPS! They're homemade and come with an outstanding sour cream dipping sauce. Come hungry-the burgers are huge and you get a lot of whichever side you go for. I'd highly recommend this place for a laid back, comfortable, and some killer food! Only reason for being short a star is that it was slow when we were in there and the service took an abnormally long amour of time. But this shouldn't stop you from going!

  • David S.

Stopped by for dinner here, and ended up getting burgers. They were really good, good meat cooked perfectly, with whatever toppings your heart desires. We sat at the bar, and the service was also good. Beer selection was ok, but not great. Only one problem. The furniture in this place is a little weird. The barstools are heavily padded and are kind of broken down, and there is no footrail on the bar. This makes for an uncomfortable dining experience. I ended up standing most of the time. Otherwise, we enjoyed the experience.

Here's the thing... I spent $10 for a burger loaded with as many toppings as I could list off before the guys hand started to hurt from writing; bacon, lettuce, tomato, portabella mushrooms, fried onions and pickles. And once I built what I was certain was going to be the best burger in Wisconsin, it was still $10. It came. I ate the whole thing. And I didn't where the beef came from. Should I have? Maybe, but it was damn tasty. You can get fried tots on the side covered in insane toppings or plain. And the owner is solid. Really nice guy. So to bring it all home... you can flip over the menu front to back to front to back to front to back a bajillion times, but you're not going to find thousands of local farms listed. And it's sort of ok, because there are plenty of places that do that, and these guys just make great food.

The burger options are great as you can build your own or try one of their well named concoctions and the best I've had in town so far! Flavor is good as well. Buns are hit and miss as they can be hard sometimes. Great music (rock) in the background. Best cheese curds I've found in the area so far! Large portion, too! Welcoming staff, worth the wait if need be. This will be my go to burger place from now on. 4 star is solely given based on the limited seating, otherwise it's a 4.5-5 star!

This is the diamond in the rough in Waukesha and I would hate to give another great review on this place because that means it will just be harder for me to get in on the weekend but they deserve it. I mentioned in a review of another restaurant down town a business is a reflection of its owners and the people that own this place are always here. Needless to say it's clear who is running the show, you get taken care of immediately, the food comes out in a timely manner and you get to watch them make it. These people are not experts in talking sweet to you but this is a bar. A bar with damn good food too. I have had the burgers which I thought I would never say it but... It's BETTER than Sobelmans and AJ Bombers. I have also had the wings which are the best in Waukesha County. I'd like to see them try grilling the wings to see if they can beat Points East Pub and Brewskis. If you're going to go anywhere in Waukesha, go here.

Fast attentive service. Super scrumptious fried pickles. Delicious burgers. Lots of interesting burger choices. Food came out quick and was hot. Clean bar. I would definitely come back!

This place is great, I eat/order from here a few times a month and there burgers are the best. As other reviews have stated they do have build your own burger and I don't belive there is any extra charge the more you add. We have also enjoyed the boneless wings, the loaded tater tots and many different types of drinks. The staff is great and most likely the owners are on site at least one if not both. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great burger and fun atmosphere. Also since it is a bar style restaurant. Also I'm am not sure how late children are allowed in but I have been here after 9pm with my 11yo daughter to get a bite to eat and everybody was still awesome.

Awesome burgers! And everything is made tight in front of you. I'd put a picture here but I ate it way too fast...

Crazy busy here tonight but they are holdingthings together and giving us great service and amazing burgers.

Best burgers in the downtown area of waukesha. Try the funnel cake fries, the chef called them crack fries. A large assortment of apps and beers.

    (5)
  • Mel A.

Their fried pickles are amazing! Best in the area for sure... Chicken sandwiches tasted great, very filling. Love all the choices of dipping sauces. Our food took a little long, but we were informed they usually have 2 cooks, but that night they only had one. Our waitress seemed a flustered, but ended up not charging us for a drink because it took so long to come. Overall, good experience, clean, good setup. Definitely will be back! Wish they had a jukebox. It looks like they may have live music according to their website.

Always love stopping in here. It's a staple for me and my girlfriend if we want a great meal and some beers.

    (5)
  • Doug L.

The fried pickles were the best I've had. The burgers are top notch. $10 gets you a 1/2 lb. burger with anything you want at no additional charge. Cheese, veggies, jalapenos, guac, sauces, bacon, etc. Probably the best burger I've ever had. Homeade chips and sweet potato fries are awesome too! We'll be back!

Decided to take my family out for a good burger near the Pewaukee -Waukesha area. Did a little homework and based on that thought we would give this place a try. It was a Sunday, late afternoon not busy at all. The staff was really friendly and had some good beers on tap. I was looking forward to the burger. Wifey had a grilled chicken sandwich. Food came out and it looked delicious. After 2 bites we both looked at each other with the same look of wtf??? The food was so salty it was almost not edible. Maybe was just an off night ?? Bottom line it could have received 4 -5 stars....

  • Nathan B.

Good was great. If you like a good hot sauce try the inferno sauce, if you're not sure get it on the side it is hot but delicious. Burgers were amazing as well as the tots. Pretty decent beer selection for crafts. Food was prepared quickly and servers were very polite. Took a little while to be attended to once the place started to crowd up a bit. Some fruit flys abound but that comes with bar territory sometimes, that's an easy fix and I'm sure they already know about it. Definitely worth checking out and I hope they bottle that inferno sauce and sell it sometime soon, if they do, I'll be making another trip back up here.

Oh my gosh!!! The best burgers we have ever had! My hubby and I read the Yelp reviews and had to go! Service was great, staff was very friendly and the food was amazing. We liked it so much we brought our son back the following day! For the complainers out there - people need to relax, the staff goes out of their way to make sure that everyone is taken care of. Some people just like to complain! Great place!

  • Vilém Z.

Great food (the burgers are amazing), great beer selection, great service. On Tuesdays they have $2 taps! The decor inside is representative of the local Waukesha pride towards Les Paul guitars and live music. The music here is great, and live bands do play frequently. No outdoor seating.

    (4)
  • Nick W.

One of my favorite bars in Waukesha! Good atmosphere and great food! Their burgers are all good, but try the daily special when they have it, its never steered me wrong. Good place to watch a game with all their tv's and big projection screen towards the front.

    (5)
  • Dave W.

Decent beer selection, but the best burgers and steak sandwich I've had. And tots! Awesome job! We will be back.

    (5)
  • Jennifer M.

The burgers were decent, although I really felt they had the makings of some great burgers. (Perhaps it was an off night?) Service was.... Strange. If you sit at the bar be careful to not sit in no man's land where the bartender will ignore you and servers will pretend you aren't their responsibility. The cooks will also pretend you don't exist unless you know them in which case they will make sure you're served. If this was a new restaurant (which I thought it was) I would say they're just learning, finding out they have been around for at least a year solidified the fact that we will not be back.

    (3)
  • Angel H.

Good beer selection, AMAZING deep fried pickles (a must have), awesome deep fried tots, and perfectly done burger that was easily 2 servings. Also great service and fun atmosphere. Would definitely go back again.

Best cheese curds I've ever had. Burgers are great and the options are endless. The tots are incredible as well. I wasn't a fan until I had them at Mainstream. I highly recommend this place.

We've been here multiple times and always have a great time. The food is great- I recommend the flatbreads. Also love the burgers. It's a great atmosphere. The bar is also unique and they have live music often. Highly recommended!

Best burgers and cheese curds around. Get the breakfast burger - 1/2lb patty, fried egg, hashbrowns, cheese, bacon, and jam. Just awesome. Some of the best bar food I've ever had in my life.

The best burgers in Waukesha. Fully customizable. Good cheap beers on Tuesdays. They also have an interesting take on scallops. The only problem I have is barely being able to function after I leave.

$2 taps on Tuesdays but the burgers are always good

This is a true Waukesha treat! That said the Sysco Butter-It has got to go...please. :-)

  • Julienn R.

My husband and I started frequenting this place as the food is consistently great, the tap beer selection is good and the service is fast and friendly. We have never had a bad meal here. The burgers are huge and delicious! The fish fry is just o.k but it's only $8.95! I would highly recommend this place.

  • Heather S.

Love the food here...especially the chips! Would definitely go back.

  • Tarisa H.

We have enjoyed Mainstream on at least a monthly basis, if not more. The burgers are amazing, the apps are great, and the beer selection on par, if not superior to the local joints. Mainly we love the owners and how attentive they are, how involved they are with their business and their attentiveness to us, especially when they remember us as repeat customers. We usually start here on our way out on the town and most often never end up heading anywhere else. The local talent lineup has been super impressive as well. Try the fried pickles, the burgers , and get to know the awesome owners/bartenders. They'll take care of you.
