Haven't had the food here but love the large rotating selection of beer to choose from.

Pros: - Tons of beer on tap, rotated out often. - Samples and friendly, knowledgeable bartenders who'll help you choose. - Live music on Fridays - Lots of TVs if you go to watch a game -GREAT bloody mary with a stout beer as the base, really different, really delicious. Cons: - Food is hit or miss, some of the flat breads are really delicious (great combos of toppings) others are meh at best. - Hit or miss when it comes to crowd, most day time visits we were the only patrons there, evenings seem to do better. Overall it's something new and different for Waukesha which I'll always welcome. For drinks and appetizers, it's a great stop. Plenty of seating, friendly staff and great beer selection.

I don't know about this place. They had good selection of beers, but it has kind of a weird layout and no real theme. The servers weren't terrible but seemed a little distracted and distant. Otherwise, not a bad place to grad a drink.

I visited over the holidays, after missing out on Bernie's the last time I was in town. Overall I was very impressed. Downtown Waukesha definitely needed a bar that specialized in craft beer, and Bernie's is just the ticket. When we entered it was a bit slow, and we were the only people there at first. But this was fine, because it meant we could chat up the bartender, who was very personable and walked us through the beer selection. I recall having something from Three Floyd's, and also something from Central Waters, but that's as far as my memory goes. It was rather cold and drafty within the bar, however. I'm sure it warms up when it fills up with patrons. Overall a 4/5 experience, but I'm going to give an extra star for the fact that they give samples when you ask for them! This is a must for a craft beer bar with a rotating list of unfamiliar beers. Surprisingly some high-end craft beer bars haven't caught on to this. In any case, great job guys. Looking forward to coming back when I'm in town.

Bernie's is a little bit of a secret in downtown Waukesha that deserves more credit. The setting is simple-large wooden tap house tables with bench seats, dim lighting, and a large projection screen. Whenever I've gone in Fridays, there has been live music, which adds a nice touch. The beer menu is extensive and the descriptions are helpful. As far as food goes-get the pretzels!! They have a giant pretzel, which is about the size of the table (okay, not quite, but close)! However-I'd recommend that if you go-get the pretzel bites with the beer/cheese dip-they're unreal! If it were more socially acceptable, I'd lick the bowl! Great place to hit up for happy hour or a great appetizer in charming downtown Waukesha!

This place scores a spot in my list of awkward seating. Benches. There were some tables with chairs, but for a group over 4 you were stuck at a bench table. This would be very uncomfortable for anyone with back issues. I am young and have no problem, but after a few hours even I was sore. They do have an extensive beer list. And the service was friendly and attentive enough. We came here for a few drinks with friends and stayed about two hours on a Saturday night without issue. I did greatly appreciate that there was not loud music playing.
(3)Barry L.
Ha great variety of beers. Changing menu that changes monthly I believe. Seasonal beers as well as pale ales, German, IPA, stouts and porters
(4)Barbara R.
I've been there 3 times with my husband. The place is clean...but very boring. It has a weird vibe...I like quiet but it's too quiet. The bartenders look annoyed and like you're bothering them. The few times I wanted to try something on there specialty drink menu ,they were out of at least 3 things. I would go there again unless I wanted to chill with my 95year old grandma.
(2)Ross B.
So, finally had a chance to try the food at Bernie's. My recommendation: stick to the beer list. Food was very average, even as bar food goes. Still my favorite beer bar in DT Waukesha.
(3)Ann R.
Stopped in with family after Carroll football game. We ordered 2-16 inch Bernie Special pizzas. Crust was crunchy, thin crust. There were a variety of cheeses, Italian sausage and tomato on pizza; very good. Very affordable for 5 people! We will be back to try the flatbread next time!

If you are sick and tired of drinking the same old boring macro beers that most places serve- Bernie's is the perfect cure. I had been longing for a place like this in Waukesha and they are a dream come true for anyone that appreciates high-quality beer. The selection changes on a weekly basis and as soon as they tap out of something, another replaces it immediately. Nothing sits around longer than a couple weeks, so you know everything is always very fresh. They have established relationships with local nano-breweries whose beers are very hard to find on tap anywhere else. They frequently do 'tap takeovers' where they feature 4-5 different beers from a brewery, often including some rare varieties. I haven't attended one of their beer dinners but have heard from friends that they are excellent. It's also a great place to catch a game as they have a projection screen and several other TV's throughout.
(5)Kelly R.
Bernie's definitely boasts a great beer collection, no doubt about that. Overall I've enjoyed my experiences here, but I've had some odd server interactions and some so-so food (when I got the large pretzel, I found it to be pretty dry). Bonuses: big tables, open feel, live music, and the duck confit pizza. A solid choice if you're seeking beer in the Sha and don't mind a bit of a wait, especially on weekends!
(3)Corey D.
I haven't seen this much beer on tap since that time in Madison.
(3)John M.
This place looks legit and has some pretty tasty cuisine. Price is a bit high but I was pleasantly surprised at the quality, so no harm there.

Descriptive word: Craft-brew. Bernie's is a new pub on Main St downtown Waukesha. It fills a giant space that was sitting empty for years. It's directly across the street from House of Guinness, and is a great addition to the growing bar-scene in Waukesha. The owners have added a wheelchair-accessible ramp to the original stepped entrance, which is a gigantic plus in my book, considering a number of the older bars in Waukesha are not accessible. This is a giant space. There is a long bar on one side with the rest filled with both smaller tables and large, beer-hall style wood tables. Personally I think the owners should choose one or the other (beer hall!), because it just didn't seem like they both fit. One wall is covered in a giant projection-screen TV. There's also a kitchen in back that is barely covered with a faux-wall. They serve apps, but I didn't have any. The bar itself is neat. There are something like 20 different Wisconsin craft-beers on tap, and all are served in the brewery's actual glasses. That's a fun touch that I've never seen before on this scale. They also serve wine on tap, which I didn't try but could be interesting. There is seating at the bar and the bartenders are great. It's a new place, and they need to work on the decor a bit. I did really like the fact that the owners stripped the walls and left the original brickwork bare. It gives it an old-town flair. Overall, I think Bernie's is going to be a great addition to downtown Waukesha and could end up being the biggest bar draw for new people to the area. Stop in if you get the chance.

Was there during Friday Night Live and the mushroom pesto pizza was awesome. Dirty Bastard was on tap!! It's one of my favorites...

Great selection of local and domestic beers compared to some of the other bars in the area and good service. The inside of this place is big and open concept, with some large TVs on the walls. Not really great for a quiet date, but is friendly to large parties. Whenever I have dined in I've been seated quickly, and if you just go for drinks, the bar always has space. To me the food is nothing special - maybe I haven't ordered enough variety from the menu yet, but I prefer other places to eat in the downtown Waukesha area. Some of the menu items are a little bizarre and seem out of place.

Went here to watch a Badgers Football game and was impressed by the beer list. There are very few places to get a tasty pint in Waukesha, Bernie's is one of those places. They had a somewhat rare sour beer on tap from O'so Brewery and their bartender had great recommendations. The food is a good fit for the beer and atmosphere, it's not great but it's definitely not bad. If you're going out for dinner, skip Bernie's. If you're going to watch a game and/or want some tasty beers to wash down a decent bar meal, this is your place. I'll be back and I'll be sending people here.

Five stars for beer, 3.5 for food. The beer selection is great, probably the best in Waukesha County. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and will let you sample the beers. The prices are maybe a touch too high but I'm willing to pay an extra dollar or two if it means keeping this great place in Waukesha. They get some beers that you usually won't find in Waukesha county bars including Vintage (Madison), Karben 4 (Madison too), and Black Husky (Pembine). The food is good, not rising to the level of great, except for the mushroom flatbread and the duck confit flatbread, both of which are outstanding. The giant pretzel is also fun and adds to the beer hall vibe. Its a great place for large groups or for meeting a friend for a couple of craft beers after work.

Hoppin' on a Friday night. Loud. Good pesto flatbread. Craft beer menu. 21 minutes for food. $12 food tab. I'd come back.

A great beer selection in Waukesha? Hell yes! I'm always pleased with the range of tap beer options at Bernie's. Thank you for bringing craft beer to Waukesha. I've had a couple of pizzas there and think that they're pretty decent. I like their focus on local (Wisconsin) craft brews and others from around the US. Friendly, knowledgeable staff who aren't shy about their love of beer.

I need to preface this review, by stating that I manage bar/restaurants, so some of my problems are going to stem from this, and really may not concern you, if you are just looking for a place to drink. Having said that, this is a nice place. It is large, and has quite a bit of room, with several TV's. We watched the 6th game of the Stanly Cup there, and it was easy to see the game. I did not look at the liquor, as we were there for the beer. They have a very nice selection of beer there, on draft and in a bottle, and you won't be disappointed by the selection, other than to be a bit heavy on New Belgium. We did not try any of the food, so I can not comment on that. The one thing I will say, is the bar is too high, for the stools that are there. If you are looking for a place to watch a game, and enjoy a good beer, this place is a good fit for that. Now, this is the part where I will make my complaints. There were 3 bartenders, and 2 servers on. We were there around 9:00pm. The one female bartender, was drunk, and wearing sandels. You can not wear open toed shoes behind the bar. She had messed up the drink order for the couple next to us, because she was too drunk to understand what they ordered. One of the other bartenders, had to fix the order. He was the gentleman that served us, and he was very pleasant, and had to pick up the slack for the other two. The other, older bartender, while he would serve drinks, spent time talking to one particular customer, and the drunk bartender. Meanwhile, while this was going on, the two servers had to get their own drinks for their tables. This may be their policy, and not a reflection on the staff. But, 5 people behind the bar is way too many, and makes it hard to control stealing, pours, etc. Also, there was a group of about 6 regulars that we were next to, and were constantly being poured free shots by the drunk bartender, who would enjoy then. Once again, coming from a management point of view, this is lost money, as they were not even wrung up, and comped. It makes you wonder how the service will wind up being there, if they are busy, which there were not very busy when we were there. This is a good place to go, check it out, as we will give it a chance again. But, watch the staff at work, because that is the real entertainment.
(3)Terry D.
Good selection of beer, but the food was less then normal and needs to be improved.
(2)Kyle R.
Not a great place for food, but great place to watch a game on the big screen with great beer selections.
(3)Tom S.
Bernie's has a good selection of beers on tap. For Waukesha it's a great selection. It is a spacious place. I generally want a relaxed bar where I can enjoy a good selection of beer at a reasonable price and talk to a friend without having to yell. Bernie's filled that niche in Waukesha for me. Noise level was very low, no obnoxiously loud music or hollering drunks. The patrons there were all relaxed and having a good time. The bartender was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the beer selection which included the usual Wisconsin microbrews as well as New Holland, Founder's, Three Floyd's and Alaskan Brewery. The food menu looked interesting but I didn't try anything. Maybe next time because I will be back.
(4)Jeff M.
"Great craft beer selection on tap. Three Floyd's, Founders, New Holland. The food is good and the staff is friendly."

If you love beer, and I mean good, crafted, hard to find TAP BEER this is my de facto spot to knock a few back. I'm addition to great beer and great ambience they have great pizza! Beer and pizza with streaming sports on the tv the only thing you are missing here is a bowling lane or two!
(5)Sarah Z.
HUGE FAN - The food is fresh, the beers are microbrew-awesomeness and the environment is conducive to large groups with the beer hall seating. If you go for anything at all, you must try the duck confit flatbread. You won't be sorry. There is a huge projection screen on one wall and on the opposite wall over the bar are flat screens, so you can catch your favorite teams. Beer dinners are held monthly in the cooler months and I highly recommend signing up for one. ' There is a large area in the back that would work well for some lounge seating (leather couches) or the hammer and nail game found at other beer halls. But alas it's empty. Just a thought. Other than that - I really, really recommend Bernie's!
(5)Sadie T.
