Culver's is probably one of my favorite "fast food" restaurants out there. The burgers are awesome, as well as their fries. Everything seems to be made fresh and never tastes like it's been sitting under a warmer for 2 hours. Also, their Concrete Mixers are to die for! I almost always get one when we stop there to eat! Also, the workers have always been friendly and courteous at any of their locations I've been to, which makes a big difference!

You know you're in Badger country when you start to see Culvers at every exit on the highway. For those who aren't from the Midwest, Culvers is a fast food restaurant that serves burgers. What makes them different from your McDonalds, Burger King, etc? I'm not sure if there's an industry name for it but I would call it a slow quick serve. Everything is absolutely made to order so after you order your food, they give you a number and you have a seat. Once your food is cooked, they'll bring it to your table. One of the best things about Culvers is the fact that everything is incredibly fresh. Your fries come out perfectly crispy, the burger was just assembled and it doesn't look like it got squashed by a 10 lb weight like so many fast food chains. Culvers serves up a pretty mean custard with their signature butterburgers. Yeah, you heard that right, BUTTER -BURGER. Of course if you're a big Paula Dean fan, you'll love these Butterburgers but your heart may not as it clogs full of cholesterol. But hey, life is short, so scarf down that butterburger double with a custard on the side and let your eyes roll to the back of your head as you enjoy that meaty, buttery, salty, delicious goodness. Culvers is definitely on the pricier side for food but for what you're getting, it's worth it. Definitely along the lines of 5 Guys Burgers and Fries. I don't get to go home too often, but Culvers is definitely a place I like to stop at and enjoy that Butterburger.

2 1/2 stars. Typically fast food IMO. What I do like are the milk/malt shakes, the ice cream, the concrete mixers and so forth. Place is ideal for quick dessert but the rest of the food I'd skip on personally. Sorry WI!

I give this place a three because the burger was appropriate but not spProbably if you grew up with this place you might be more fond of it. I am glad I tried the regional chain but would not stop by again if driving through. Also, the fries and milkshake were below average. Service was excellent.

Great salads here and they will add extra veggies to them for a minimal charge. Much better than the McDonald's salads I think. I have also done the chicken dinner here and thought it was pretty good. Great fast and friendly service!

Culver's is awesome! Everything I've had there is made fresh and taste delicious. The ingredients are fresh (I can tell because afterwards I don't have that gross "I just ate fast food feeling" like I do from most places). Customer service is amazing, everyone is always nice and friendly. The place is clean, which is a big must have for me. All their employees are held to much higher standard and it shows. I love going there. Culver's is definitely not your typical, cheap, fast food. It's much better.

Pretty standard Culvers. -Clean bathrooms, great road side pit stop. -Food quality is the same as Culver's I've had before. -Don't forget to get some custard! A little custard goes a long way, especially on the long haul back home.

I love Culvers. As a family, we have stopped at Culvers' across the country - in addition to having consistently good food, this place stirs up all of the fond emotions that are associated with family vacations, holidays, etc. Those warm & fuzzy feelings died today. At 9:56, in the middle of terrible weather, and having been in the car for over 7 hours, we were delighted to see the lights on at the Tomah Culvers & pulled in to the drive through to get some much-needed ice cream therapy. For several minutes, we sat in the drive through while the person inside visibly ignored us. I got out to go inside to find that they had locked the doors! AFTER we gave up, they turned all the lights off (as we were driving away). How hard would it really be to hand an ice cream cone to two weary travelers through a drive through window?! Apparently more difficult than locking the doors and actively ignoring a customer. This normally-very-satisfied customer is not so satisfied tonight. Thanks Culvers.

Culvers brings new meaning to fast food. It isnt fast enough that you stand at the counter where you order- you go find a table and by the time you are settled, there is your meal! The frozen custard is amazing, even though it is like a 1000 calories in a small serving. They have great choices for the daily flavor and neat seasonal ones as well. My husband loves the Valentines: dark chocolate cherry. The kids meals come with a small custard of choice and they can earn points with each meal to come back and trade in for hats and tshirts, etc. The meals come with lots of side choices (always have) besides fries. Staff is friendly and fast. I am addicted to the grilled turkey club- amazing. Definitely the place to go after a football game.

Reviewing chains is tricky business because you have to choose one at a time, but which one to choose? I chose Tomah because it might have been my first and because it is the highlight of my trips from the Twin Cities to Chicago and back again. Tomah is the perfect truck stopping town. They have one of the best truck stops you'll ever see right across the street from this Culvers and lots of choices on where to eat including the best choice, Culvers! Culvers is a premium fast food experience. It's hard to group it because it's unfair competition for other fast food establishments like Hardee's, McDonalds or Burger King. Even Wendy's pales in comparison. Yet it definitely is not like a regular restaurant. The blue and white interiors are always clean and inviting. The staff are almost always high school kids or just out of high school kids who look as though they've got all the promise in the world and this is their first job on their way to curing the world of every ailment. The menu is diverse and almost everything is good. I can't cover it all but I can give you an expansive greatest hits. The butter burgers are as good as you've heard. They're simply the best fast food burger I've ever had. Now there are people who try and say that the In-N-Out or Five Guys or Smashburger are better. I've been to Five Guys and I can testify that it is very good but no better and probably not quite as good as Culvers. Either way... these burgers are in a new realm for fast food. Culvers also has very good tuna melts. It might even beat out your Mom's! Their other sandwiches are all pretty good and they have dinners too that look good, but I can't quit those burgers. We need to talk about their desserts. Their custard cream is so good. It's not fair to compare it to Dairy Queen because that drags this down too low. On the other hand it just doesn't have the toppings and it's not the same product as the new Cold Stone Creamery genre. Still, whether you're getting the flavor of the day, Concrete, or my stand-by, the Two Scoop Caramel Cashew, you will not be sorry. These are all big, big reasons why Culvers is significantly raising the bar for fast food. The only drawback is that the price is substantially higher, but the price is worth it about as often as the hit to your waistline is worth it. As often as possible!

The first time I went to Culver's I didn't care for it at all. But the more I went there (since I was staying in the Comfort Inn next door) the more I began to appreciate the magic of the ButterBurger. I highly recommend the onion rings as well. The frozen custard was good, but not mind-blowing.

Not bad, had the butterburger, coleslaw and rootbeer. Burger was like homemade, coleslaw was not good and root beer was not as "sweet" or rich as I like it. Obviously the northern competitor to A&W. I would have liked Quiznos better but its closed in Tomah.

Staying in the Econolodge across the street and I wanted something I don't have at home so butter burgers it is since someone in my office was always talking about them. Butter burger with cheese, small fries and Culver's own root beer. The place was clean and the folks inside were polite, the fries were pretty good considering it is a pretty thick cut of crinkle which usually becomes dry. Culver's own root beer seemed too sweet to me, too much sugar not enough "bite", the butter burger after all the hype ... you can tell the meat is of higher quality than your normal chain and the bun was nicer but the whole thing can't touch the In-and-Outs back in CA, maybe too much condiments but it took something away from the meat.

No road trip is complete without a Tomah pit-stop at Culver's. The cheese curds beckon and the car just sort of auto-pilots itself over to the parking lot. The lovely quilted sign as you step in the door indicates that you are, indeed, in the heart of the Midwest and that you are about to partake in the finest culinary offerings of the Wisconsin road. If you're extra hungry, the North Atlantic Cod dinner is worth its weight in grease; the French fries are always perfectly salted and delicious. And the frozen custard is a delightful change of ice cream pace. If your food must be fast and portable, the drive-thru service is also handy. But actually going in provides people watching of the highest caliber, so I'd take the time to get out of the car, stretch your legs, and undo your belt buckle.

mmmmm.... Culver's..... I love Culvers. Cheese curds, butter burgers, fried walleye, and lets not forget the custard, and the shakes, and the sundaes, and the lemon ices... OK.. must stop before I get into my car and head to WI right now. I have been to many Culvers, being the wonderful Wisconsin girl that I am, but I chose to review this one because it just has a special place in my heart. Tomah is exactly halfway between Minneapolis and my hometown of Racine, and on my trips home I would look forward to stopping here to refuel for the rest of the trip! The food is always made to order, so your butter burger is just the way you like it! The drive thru may take a bit longer because of it, but every bite of your burger and lick of your custard is worth it!

I love Wisconsin. Don't get me wrong, California has good cheese, but Wisconsin really embraces the cheese culture. It can even be seen at Culvers. I ordered a burger, soda, and replaced my fries with fried cheese nuggets. Yes, little balls of cheese, breaded and fried. Oh boy, they don't skimp either. The bag seemed endless. 5 stars because they use two different types of cheese too. Culvers also makes its own rootbeer. Just the right flavor and not too sweet, went really well with my burger. Love the burger too, it seems as though it's grilled, but then fried really quick. You know how burgers are a liiiitle lumpy? The burgers here are like perfectly flat, like someone ironned them. Don't really know what that does to the flavor, but it tasted good to me. If I had some money, I would open one of these bad boys in SJ. Oh yeah, and a Sonics...

I've spent almost every weekend for the past two years traveling from IL to MN. The Culvers in Tomah has been my sole saving grace on the long drive (along with a backlog of This American Life). Clean bathrooms, friendly midwestern service, warm food (veggie burgers!) - what more could a weary traveler ask for?
