Really good donuts for cheap! This is a classic small town bakery. I eat my fair share of gourmet donuts, usually costing 2-4x the cost of a donut here. They don't exactly have the most unique options here, but the standard raised options are fluffy, moist, and delectable. They do offer coffee but it's pretty basic with no barista service or hand made options. I much prefer a donut shop with a nice espresso machine to pair with my sugar. Overall great option in Stoughton and clearly above grocery store options!

One of the best bakeries in the area. Great rolls, lots of choices, and their breads are good too. Get there early on Saturdays if you want a good selection. Friendly staff and very helpful. They have coffee and you can have lunch there too, but the bakery is the reason to stop.

It's a long drive to Stoughton from Waunakee and quite honestly, I was dreading making the trip through snowy conditions for my daughter's early morning Saturday basketball game. Then I paid a visit to Fosdal Bakery and suddenly the trip didn't seem so bad. The Fosdal doughnuts have some substance to them without feeling heavy or greasy. Their doughnuts are less expensive and better in overall quality than their counterparts at Greenbush Bakery in Madison. While I didn't pick up any bread, I tried several samples and was impressed with the taste and texture. The women working the counter that Saturday morning were wonderful. Even though it was my visit, they treated me like a regular. The cozy surroundings seem to be a popular gathering spot for the Stoughtonites. If I lived closer to Stoughton, I no doubt would be joining them.

We drove from Madison just for the donuts at Fosdal's. It's not a trek we take often, considering delicious Greenbush Bakery is close by, but we took the drive on a special occasion. Like Matt W. mentioned, it's full of Stoughton residents, and a table of older ladies helped us navigate making a hot chocolate at the coffee bar (which I don't recommend btw) because the person behind the counter would barely talk to us. The service was actually pretty snarky - not downright rude but certainly not warm and friendly. We picked many delicious desserts from their case - probably too many! - and some rolls. It all looked so good, including the cream puffs, and variety of frosted cookies and donuts, but my absolute favorite is their buttercream-filled frosted donuts. They're clearly diet (haha) and are delicious warmed up the next day too. It makes the drive worth it and, despite the service, I'm rating it 5 stars for taste. Maybe the sour service makes it taste even more sweet!

OMG...died and gone to bakery heaven...this place is AMAZING. I went for a cookie and got so much more. There are cookies, donuts, eclairs, woopie pies...I mean AMAZING. How are the cookies still soft 1 and 2 days later?!?!?! SOOOO GOOD. Everything. Gotta get an eclair and don't pass on the cookies either. This is a MUST STOP.

Foadal's is just a classic small town bakery. I can remember it growing up back in the 70s and it really hasn't changed much and that's just fine. Occasionally go there for coffee and donuts but recently bought a decorated carrot sheet cake birthday cake and it was fantastic tasting and very nicely decorated.

I LOVE this bakery. It is a familiar, small town feel with amazingly delicious baked treats. My absolute favorite cupcake in the world. Now, mind you, it depends what you are looking for. This is a down-home bakery, not a fancy building, and the bathroom upstairs has a shorter ceiling than I am tall. Despite that, I have long loved this bakery. I think the quirks add to the charm.

Support local? Yes! And do it often! It's not an Italian bakery (sad face) but it gets me what I want without having to go far and they do a great job with it. The counter service has always been polite and helpful, and, like Megan R. mentions, the smell alone from outside the place is a perfect invitation. As much as I prefer to do my own baking, bread isn't something you just make a loaf at a time when you want it. They have an outstanding product, and, when matched with the cookies and small pastries, is a far better quality than trips to Roundy's or wherever just to save a buck. You're not going to find selections as varied as specialty stores (no forty individual varieties of doughnuts or cookies) but they do hit all marks. I'm blanking on whether or not they had cheesecake though...guess I'll have to drag myself down the strip for another visit...

I'm a huge fan of this bakery. I was raised in Stoughton, so I've been coming here for as long as I can remember. The library on the corner gives children a card that entitles one to a free cookie on reading hour days, so I would always come here. The donuts are light, not over done and delicious. Everything is cheap and wonderful, the cookies are especially worth your money. I'd recommend the molasses, sugar and Charlie Brown. (chocolate with raisins with chocolate frosting) There's also homemade bread and soup. If you stay, you'll undoubtedly be witness to casual exchanges between neighbors and the gathering of older men who sit in the window. It's a great way to experience the spirit of Stoughton and if you're lucky, you'll hear a bit of Norwegian! I strongly recommend this bakery if you have the chance to pass through town. If you have a bit longer, I'd go down to the river and eat your donuts there. (Take main to Division and turn right, follow until you hit the river. Total distance is about 2.5 blocks)

The Kringle is amazing. We have had their donuts many times as well. They are both very good.

One word: YUM! Awesome, local bakery, VERY reasonably priced and everything tasty and fresh. And fat free of course.... They have many different flavors of Kringle, which are reasonably priced (can't remember price as been awhile) and incredibly good. Donuts and cakes (I ordered one for a bridal shower and I think a birthday) are likewise beyond tasty. I've also gotten really good brat buns here.

I went to this charming little bakery with my boyfriend on a recent family visit to WI. Can I just say that any bakery that draws you in with its delicious smells from down the street is probably going to be amazing? We stopped in to visit my boyfriend's brother, an employee of Fosdal's, so we decided to have lunch and get a few sweets. We both got some delicious soups, sandwiches, and rolls for under $10. Not only was the food delicious, it was also cheap! We also got a few donuts, and these were some of the best I've tasted anywhere! There were a TON of baked goods that looked delectable, but I will be back to try them all! The place was PACKED for the hour we were there, and people kept milling in and out to get bread and rolls for dinner, pastries for work, or a treat for their kids. I love supporting locally owned bakeries, and I will be back to support Fosdal's next time I'm in Stoughton!

Prices are good, but the stuff is pretty ordinary. Cinnamon rolls are below average, donuts are average, scones are a little sweet for my taste. The buns and rolls are good though.

As far as the baked goods go this place is amazing. Everything I tasted was delicious and they seem to have fair pricing. That is until I ordered from their lunch menu. You can get their sandwiches on either a small bun, croissant or bread and I opted to try out a small bun for $3.50. The small bun was indeed very small, it amounted to one of those cheap little square dinner rolls you buy in a package of 12 with a small slab of tuna on it and a small piece of lettuce along with some crushed up chips. I know it's hard to gripe about what you get for $3.50 but this was silly, I don't even understand why they would even offer it. Outside of that things such as their donuts are outstanding so I'd recommend this place for baked goods but definitely not for lunch.

My zen? The smell of walking into Fosdal's. I swear it is heaven wafting out the door. Over the years, I have had several things Fosdal's makes. Their doughnuts are so affordable and thankfully they still make them the old fashioned way. My new fav is their brownies but really I have had nothing but excellent baked goods. I love their bread as well. I grew up with hometown bakeries...I am thankful we still have one!

The lovely smells will pull you in from blocks away. Everything is amazing here and the prices are suprisingly cheap when you consider how delish it is. Fosdal Bakery is one of the places that makes Stoughton special.

I just had to write an update to give them props for their cakes. Holy cr-ap, the cake is good! Seriously, I didn't know bakery bought cakes could taste this good. Puts others to shame!
