    My son and I recently had dinner at the Red Mill Supper Club while in town for Freshman Orientation at UW Steven's Point. We had read some good reviews so we decided to give the Red Mill Supper Club a try. We were warmly greeted by the Bartender/Owner. He kindly indicated that they were very busy at the moment, but would seat us very soon. After about 5 min. we were still not being seated, thus he offered us menus and when we requested an ice tea and soda he promptly got these and indicated they were on the house for the wait. We were greeted a short time later and taken to a table in the charming dining room. We were then brought a warm loaf of some type of veggie bread that was GREAT!!!! We both ordered the Prime Rib. My son had soup...which he loved and I had a salad, which was very good as well. Our dinners were rather slow to come out, but we were not in a hurry and as our sweet server apologized several times we informed her we were just enjoying our time and it was not a problem. When our dinners came out it looked amazing.....however upon the first bite we both realized it was rather tough. The prime rib had very good flavor, however it was overdone and tough throughout. Our server was very apologetic and indicated that she had another complaint as well. The owner also apologized for the toughness and indicated that it rarely happens.....but tonight it did. As there was little that could be done, she offered us complimentary desserts. My son had cheesecake and I had pecan pie with ice cream. Both desserts were GREAT!!!! We had a wonderful dining experience, GREAT service, very good food (except the issue with the Prime Rib) and we will be back for sure!!!! It is great to see a family run supper club who is very customer service focused.....they are doing it the right way and it shows! I will try something other than the Prime Rib next time as their menu looked great....so many yummy things to pick from. Keep up the great job!!!

    Tried their fish fry drive through recently, what a neat idea! The wait was not long at all, so this was very convenient after a long work week. The meal was pretty good too, a pretty standard fish fry with different potato options. We each split fries and wedges and liked both, also liked the herby bead since I'm not a particular rye fan. I'd be interested in actually stopping in and seeing what else they offer!

    Although the bar and dining rooms at the Red Mill seem small and claustrophobic, their friday night fish fry is excellent. Every bite is enjoyable. The fish fry includes warm table side bread and tasty home-made coleslaw. For a few $$ more, you can add a well-constructed side salad or try their homemade clam chowder -- which beats the frozen fare offered elsewhere. Baked Potato and Fries are included. Fish options are baked, fried, or uniquely sautéed. I love the sautéed option best. It's the perfect compromise between baked or fried. If you have the opportunity, ask to be seated in the four-season porch area. It contains the best views in the house -- and helps counteract the 'crowded' feel that this restaurant has, even when attendance is well-below capacity.

    Visiting family back home having moved away 4 years ago, a good old fashioned WI fish fry was begging me. Having lived in Point for 21 years, I knew all the old haunts. Of course I'm older now and looking for a decent alternative to the deep fried beer batter - much as I crave it. So I looked on YELP to see what new places may have opened in the meantime and what others have to say. A few said "Best____" Warning sign #1 Last time I was at the Red Mill was probably 20 years ago and at least 2 owners since. Back then it was an 'Old School Supper Club' so I thought let's give it a shot. We made our reservation on the patio 2 hours in advance for a Friday night. I was given an option of any time, no problem. Warning sign #2 Arriving for our 6 O'clock rez, the place was fairly quiet, maybe 4 tables occupied. On our way in I commented to my group that the kitchen exhaust is clean and doesn't smell like old grease. I'll give them a thumbs up for thir sanitation. The interior is cozy and fresh smelling, a nod to the state's restrictive smoking laws sure, but also to the owners running a tight ship. Bonus points for that. Our table on the patio was nice, next to the pond with fountain and pleasant yard ornamentation & landscaping. I was hopeful. Put the brakes on that feeling, Fred. The 'loaf of warm vegetable bread' arrived. Uhhh...which day old bakery outlet was this bought at?! At least there was plenty of butter pats to smother it. My mother ordered the calamari. I have learned to hesitate on calamari at all but the most authentic of seafood or Italian restaurants. This cemented my my resolve. Speaking of cement, the thick breading was tough, the pieces (odd shaped for squid) were dropped in not hot enough grease, and it arrived at a tepid temperature. Normally I forego the Marinara sauce as it masks the flavor of the dish. This time I recommend the sauce. Lots of it. Because our wait time for the entre' was longer than one would expect, I forced myself to eat some of what was there. Perhaps because they heavily promote their 'Fish on the Fly' drive through service and those customers got priority? Or that the couple seated 10 minutes after us (and ordered after us as well) received their steak or whatever, a good 15 minutes before our meals? Or our order got lost in the shuffle? After the second apology for the delay and promise that it was up next, we were served. I ordered the sauteed fish (as recommended by a Yelp reviewer), my girlfriend got the sauteed Walleye and my mother went deep fried. All presented well, but my cod looked like it was thawed out and sauteed in the same prefab batter that the deep fried fish was cooked in. I should know better. Sauteed Cod. Should have gone with the Walleye. Except that dish looked similarly prepped. Speaking of her meal, the potato puffs were cooked in a different fryer than the calamari. Good sign but for the obvious look of grease from last week used in that unit. I tried a small portion of hers and again, definitely NOT homemade. A bit much corm meal filler like the other places where I've tried them, and not cooked through. Needless to say we passed on the dessert, went to the local soft serve stand instead. So, as there were a couple thumbs up items noted, they get 2 stars.

    Prime rib was tough and overcooked. The waiter missed out on a bigger tip by leaving us without drinks for the entire meal. Does not live up go the reviews that this is the best prime rib around. There are much better options at this price point. Cheese curds were good. Other people in our party got the ribeye and tenderloin and said that it was nothing special. Potato puffs were average. The lobster tails were tiny, maybe two bites out of each one. Cocktails were weak, I actually thought they forgot to put alcohol in mine but was charged for a double. Keep your $ or go someplace else if you want a good prime rib meal.

    We had dinner at the Red Mill Thursday evening. We chose this restaurant after reading the other reviews because we were in town for a car show. We were not disappointed, the food was great. My husband had the deep fried walleye - great. I had the potato wrapped halibut which was cooked perfectly and the dinner salad- great ranch dressing. My grandson had the ribeye and French fries, he couldn't stop raving about how good his steak and fries were. He also had the cheese curds - thought they were awesome! All of the food was fresh and scratch made- would definitely eat there again. We ran into some men who come to the car show every year and make it their regular evening meal.

    I stopped into to try after driving past for years with my girlfriend. I must say I was impressed, everyone was quite friendly. We did have a newer server, but that's quite alright. It is a little cramped in there. Food was brought in a very reasonable time. I would recommend the cheese curds. The food was delicious. I do think the prices are rather high. I would go again.
