Guu's gets a solid 3 stars. I did enjoy my chicken taco salad for what it is worth. The taco shell was quite tasty, actually, but it had your run-of-the-mill iceberg lettuce and jarred salsa on the side. It could use a punch of creativity and local produce. And, don't give me that "It's Steven's Point," especially with locavore lovely, Father Fat's down the block. The resources are available. They do have Point Root Beer on tap, which is a bonus, but they may want to consider serving it in frosted pint glasses. I think an ice cold root beer cannot be beat, especially when it's brewed in town. Highlight what comes from your neighbors, and you're well on your way to plus 1- and 2-stars, Guu's.

Our last experience left us wondering how some people keep a job. It took the bartender 17 minutes to acknowledge us, and then with an indignant attitude. We interrupted her texting and flirting spree. (sorry for that).. Having an order of 2 beers to remember, and having to walk 4 feet to pour them, she messed up the order. (OK, they were 2 different beers so I'll give her that). We did leave a tip, which was a note on the credit card receipt telling her how much the service disappointed, hence you get no tip, sweetheart. Management should have a better handle on the service being put out. There's a huge pool of bartenders with UWSP locally. we've avoided the place since and had frequented often in the past.

A restaurant disguised as a bar. It really has such a nice pub feel to this place, I was surprised to find that they have a menu that includes blackened salmon fillet burgers. The value of the food and drinks here really is reasonable, I've eaten at some pub restaurants like this in Chicago so they get 5 stars for bringing that big city feel to Central Wisconsin. Thank you Guu's.

A very pleasant diversion in downtown (I assume that was downtown) Stevens Point. A lovely old wood bar, well-worn, as are the brass rails at the lip and foot. The ceilings are soaring, 15, maybe 20 feet tall of stamped tin. I think the room is actually taller than it is wide. But I didn't measure. An impressive selection of beers on tap including several local "Point" brews. All-in-all this place is a stolid, earthy barman's bar, with your standard pub-grub fare of burgers and such. It's all done in unpretentious fashion, the food cooked well, the pickles crisp, the sandwich served on a tasty roll rather than a bland bun. It's obviously a local favorite, with several families occupying booths at my early dinner hour of 6pm. I've heard the Friday perch fry is not to be missed. Alas, it was Tuesday. The servers are friendly: chatty if you want them to be, utilitarian if not. My dinner gave me a stern talking-to around 3am, but that was simply my fault for ordering the buffalo chicken. It's something I do once or twice a year, in spite of knowing that it's going to haunt me in a matter of hours. C'est la vie. Go Guu's! (What a name, eh?)

This is one of my favorite places to go and just grab a drink and some grub (the lunch/dinner menu are pretty decent - the food doesn't blow me away, but it's still tasty). However, after about 9pm on the weekends the place gets packed. It's such a cool atmosphere with a great tap selection, but due to the narrowness of the building and the location of the bar along one entire side, it is incredibly difficult to get around in here. My advice, grab a pitcher and a table and enjoy.

From out of town and decided to check out the restaurant/bar scene in downtown Stevens Point. Expected more of a dinner crowd since it was a Friday night, but we did arrive around 8 pm, so I think dinner crowd was starting to thin out. We decided to eat at the bar. Our timing was just right. There was a lull in the action between dinner and the later evening bar crowd. By the time we left around 10:30 pm it was definitely getting busy again. Both my wife and I got the fish fry dinner. I got the perch and she ordered the cod. My perch was good and you could tell it was hand-breaded. It was slightly over-fried. My wife's cod was very good. Portion size was large and I ended up eating what she could not finish. Good beer selection, especially from the Stevens Point Brewery. My wife was very happy with the brandy old fashions, but you would expect this in central Wisconsin. They were made from scratch and not already pre-made from a mix. Recommend you try the Apple Pie shot. It was delicious. Bartenders were friendly, but sometimes a little lackadaisical. The atmosphere was fun and probably gets very lively as the night wears on, since this is a college town. I would definitely go back if i was in the area again.

If you don't like the big crowds at 9-5-6 or Graffitis definitely check this place out. Totally causal atmosphere with cool people. The bar food isn't bad either. I never had bad things to say about the actual bar, but you might get a few weirdos who venture in there late at night on the weekends... but that's not a big deal. They usually have some awesome deals too. My friend and I would come here every Wednesday night for $2.50 captain and cokes. You really can't pass that up! And everyday they have $1.50 PBRs... not the greatest beer but it'll suffice for a lowly college student! I also went here in the afternoon to study. It's quiet enough for me and not distracting because no one else would really be there from school. It was a secret getaway of mine! Free wifi at my own booth. Awesome. Definitely my favorite bar in Point. Check it out if you like the more relaxed bar scene instead of the annoying loud girls and creepy boys in some of the other bars in town. It's also a decent size... unlike Mugshots or Joe's. Friendly staff, fun bar! I'm going to miss not going there all the time!

Great bar and restaurant with an amazing beer selection. Take a look at the link below youtube.com/watch?v=_ajX…

This place had a lot of great beers on tap. My husband and I stopped here for lunch and I ordered the buffalo chicken salad. It was huge! My hubby had the chili which looked great and a side salad which was also rather large. They had centrals waters on tap which was the best part.

Good beer and alcohol list. Fun and relaxing atmosphere, even when it's packed on the weekends. Guu's is probably one of the more multiculteral bars I've seen in Stevens Point. Most of the bar tenders are quick and efficient. Every once in awhile you'll get one gentleman who's a bit rude and lacking in customer service, but certainly nothing to dissuade you.

Solid, affordable sandwiches for lunch. Quick service, and the waitress brought individual receipts without being asked! Friendly and efficient. Really enjoyed the pulled pork; buffalo chicken salad was also very nice.

I think it's reasonably priced, but I'm from Minneapolis so my expectations are still adjusting. The interior is nice but the layout is annoying as someone else mentioned. The place is really narrow and the bar takes up a lot of space in the middle. It also cuts the bar in half with the back part of the bar usually very dimly lit. It's a minor critique, but I prefer a place that feels open for mingling and moving about.

So really, I would give Guu's a solid 3 stars, but I'm adding an extra star because they accept gift certificates from Restaurant.com . I recently won one in a raffle at work, and there are all of 2 places in Stevens Point that would accept it. So that's what brought me in. Finding a spot was kind of a hassle. It was packed when we arrived, but several staff members made eye contact with us but no one said anything. Definitely awkward walking around trying to see if tables were open. The one we got was too close to to the door so it was pretty chilly the whole time. If you're looking for good bar food, Guu's has you covered. The nachos left something to be desired, but the spinach dip in a breadbowl was a good start. We had a few different burgers and sandwiches, and I think everyone enjoyed what they ordered. Honestly not sure if I'll be back as bars just aren't my thing, but I'm glad we got to try something new and finally use my gift certificate here.

Honestly, I have visited this bar many times over the years, and in my opinion outside of the nice atmosphere, this place is less than par. Although I try to avoid this place, sometimes those that I know manage to drag me in, and my last experience, although not the worst, I think it's definitely worth mentioning. A few weeks ago my girlfriend was invited by a friend out to lunch, to which I accompanied. While I ordered their fish fry she decided to go with a salad. To our surprise her salad was also served with a side of mold. When we brought it to our servers attention our server took it to the back and eventually returned and in a rude tone told my girlfriend they would make her another salad. At this point my girlfriend had lost her appetite but with no offer for a refund on the her only option was to take the soon to be soggy salad home, where partially due to the experience the salad was not to be finished.

It's a college bar, so if you're not in college, avoid it.

Guus is the place to be, great burgers and fish fry, stellar beer selection, and awesome service.

Good fast service, very friendly service. An order to go was great! Ordered a ClUb sandwich with fries and it was fantastic.

As soon as I ordered the Asian Chicken Salad at Guu's, I knew that I had taken a knife to a gunfight. Although salad was serviceable, this is a place for bar food: burgers, sandwiches and fried food. Good beer selection too. I spent to whole meal admiring the burger across the table instead of enjoying my salad. I'll be back for my burger soon... and to try their friday fish fry. Seek out a table near the window if you can... The atmosphere is dark.

Guu's on Main is one of the best places not only for food, but also for drinks. Guus has over 30 different taps on hand at all times. The food is really good. The menu is not too big and not too small. It is just right. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I always look forward to my next visit to Guus.

This place has many local beers on tap that will satiate anybody's taste. They have good beer food and the place I used to work out would always have happy hours there. I love their mozzarella sticks because they're cooked in wonton wrappers which adds something special. Grab a burger and expect it to get a little busy after work because it's a great place to unwind.

Great place for drinks and apps. Wonderful beer selection, especially with the microbrews. The food is mediocre, not a large selection but they have mostly regular bar choices. I would go back for the beer selection.

To me, Guu's is like when people buy clothing from UO to make it look like they shop at thrift stores but you know they don't. I feel like it tries to be a dive, but it really isn't. Anyway, they mix their drinks well and it's generally a nice place to hang out. I've never had a bad drink or a bad time here, really. :)

This is the best veggie burger I've found in the area (granted, there's not a lot of competition, but still). Really excellent portobello sandwich and very yummy tuna steak sandwich as well. Their crisscut fries are the best! Consistently friendly, efficient waitstaff. This is one of our 'go to' lunch spots.

Bit pricey for a central Wisconsin bar! But this place has a fun young atmosphere with a great digital jukebox! Enjoy the awesome weekly specials!
(4)Ryan R.
Best cheese curds ever--thinly battered, not breaded! Awesome burgers-black and blue is my favorite! Beer is cheap and there is a great selection.
(4)Luthien N.
Great cheese curds, decent food otherwise- nothing to complain about but nothing to rave about. Awesome tap beer selection, great drink specials every night (not that the prices are very expensive in the first place), and super nice servers and bartenders. Now that it's smoke-free and I don't have to shower immediately upon getting home, I couldn't ask for more.
