I visited this place for a late lunch while on a trip to Sheboygan, after a day spent hiking. (I found it here on Yelp.) Short version: if you enjoy waiting a long time in uncomfortable conditions for stingy portions of over-priced food, this is the place for you! Long version: It was extremely hot that day (100+ heat index) and it wasn't much cooler inside the cafe, which was a disappointment after tromping around in the sand dunes all day, but we'd read such good things about it, we decided to go ahead. Based on the price-to-size ratios of the items visible in the deli case, we were expecting hearty portions (everything was pricey but BIG), so I ordered a half turkey sandwich, as the price of the whole ($11) made me envision a sandwich approximately the size of my forearm. My aunt also ordered the half turkey, and we decided to split half a Mediterranean salad. They had some fantastic looking desserts in the deli case, which were also huge. I had my eye on a carrot cake cupcake, and my aunt was contemplating a chocolate chip cookie. We decided to wait until after we ate, in case we were too full for dessert. The place wasn't exceptionally busy, there were several tables open, but we ended up waiting 30 minutes for our food. For two sandwiches and a salad! I have no idea what that was about, and it was especially perplexing because I counted no fewer than six people wandering around in the kitchen area. Surely with that many people working, it doesn't take 30 minutes to throw together some sandwiches and a salad. Meanwhile, we sat there sweating, waiting for our food, getting hungrier and hungrier (it had been nine hours and many miles hiked since breakfast). Eventually, a woman waiting at a table to our left stopped a server and checked to make sure her order hadn't been forgotten, and she was assured it hadn't been, but no explanation was given for the long wait. A table to the right of us, when they finally got their food, was given a free basked of tortilla chips as apology for the long wait. Neither our table nor the other woman got chips or anything else in apology. When the food arrived the sandwiches were a lot smaller than either of us expected--about four inches by five inches, and light on fillings. I think they each had two slices of turkey in them. The salad was good, had fresh ingredients, and didn't skimp on the feta cheese. The dressing was excellent. We finished it all, and were both still hungry. The desserts still looked good, but at that point, hungry and sweaty and aggravated, we elected to not give them any more of our money. Overall, the sandwiches were expensive for what we got, the atmosphere uncomfortable, and the none of it was worth the wait. Neither of us feel the need to ever visit this place again. (Edited for clarity of portions/prices on 6/25/2015 but no other details changed.)

Pretty nice place. Very small though. If possible eat outside on the boardwalk. I had the rainbow smoothie and was very, very pleased. It was the perfect consistency and full of goodness. The breakfast burrito was also good, but the tortilla it was wrapped in was a little to brittle for me to eat without making an a** of myself. As a first-timer here I was kinda confused about how things worked with the menu and what to do with my dirty dishes, but after spying on my fellow diners I figured out to take the dishes back inside. Overall a tasty breakfast.

I visit Port Washington, Wisconsin about twice a year, and every time I do, I have to drive into Sheboygan to stop at the Weather Center Cafe. My girlfriend and I have a cup of coffee, she usually orders some pastry. I can't speak for the food, as I never tried any, but I can say their Weather Center blend is the best coffee I've ever had. I always buy 6 pounds of whole bean to take back home. The coffee is supplied by Colectivo, formally Alterra, same company, different name. Colectivo is based in Milwaukee. I'm assuming this is a private blend, created by Weather Center's owner. If that's the case, he really knows his beans, (no pun intended).

Seems like a cute little spot, we stopped in for some cookies and they did not disappoint

Wow! I consider myself a bit of a tuna salad expert (ie I LOVE it) and this Neptuna sandwich is incredible!! Flavorful and on perfectly toasted bread, with lettuce, tomato, toasted cheese and onions (which I don't like). There are even a small amount of red onion in the salad which I was able to pick out secondary to my dislike.i only ordered the half which is huge but I'm tempted to get another half, it's that good!!! Coffee is decent, just got the weather center drip coffee. Tastes like they add chicory root but I'll have to ask... It's pretty good. I'm sitting outside on a gorgeous day with a harbor view and great food... What more could I ask for?

This place is a diamond in the ruff. The food is great and the baked goods are the best ever! Friendly workers was and added bonus to a all around excellent experience.

Why did I wait so long to go here?! I stopped in for lunch, and I ordered a HALF a Neptuna and an iced Americano. Cost... just under $9. Not cheap, but reasonable. I waited about 10 minutes for my sandwich, but got my beverage right away. I love that they have Collectivo coffee! The wait may also have been by design, because by the end I wanted to buy every piece of dessert in the case. You could tell that every piece of bakery was made with care, and they had a lot of creative options. Anyway, I took the sandwich to go, and I enjoyed every bite of it. The bread they use is a French bread, and by the time they grill the tomato, cheese, and onion, it probably doesn't even need the tuna...its that good. You could tell that it was good albacore tuna, and even the half-sandwich was very filling. As I was there, I saw wraps and other sandwiches come out, and everything looked really tasty. The place is right on the water, and its sweet to see boats right out the back door. It has a good boathouse feel. I could see hanging out here for a long time, drinking coffee, and watching people come and go.

Small place, definitely a bit rough around the edges with a very "earthy" vibe. Tuna sandwich was great, not to mayo-y. We ordered half sandwiches, and they were still really big. No kids menu, but it was fun for the kids to sit outside and watch the fishing boats go by. I got a coffee to go (since everyone seems to rave about their coffee) and it tasted a little off. I finally figured out that it wasn't the coffee itself, but the pervasive smell of the cup/lid. It smelled like patchouli or something - probably from whomever made the drink. Kind of off-putting.

Best gluten free chocolate chip cookies I have ever had. You would never know they did not have flour. In addition to the cookies we loved the lunch. I had a chicken Quesadilla with lots of flavor and fresh ingredients. My wife had the soup of the day which was home made and very tasty. The portion sizes were just right if not on the large end.

They have several vegan smoothie choices, but no vegan pastries -- at least not when we were there. Perhaps they do on other days... The smoothie had great flavor but it wasn't smooth. Ice crystals were too big to fit up the straw. The first rule of smoothies: run the blender until you think you've run it too long, then run it that long again. Learned from years of experience at home. Costs them 2 stars.

This is always a stop when I come to visit my family in Sheboygan. The coffee is good, but I wouldn't go so far as "great" The ambiance can't be beat if you can find a space in the main room. The pastries are OUT OF THIS WORLD. Thank god I only get to Sheboygan twice a year or I would be huge. Service is polite and friendly if a little on the slow side. Be aware, their credit card system doesn't have a line for a tip, so its good to have enough cash on you for a tip when you go in.

I love this place! I go back every chance I can. The people are nice and the owner really cares to make a great product. The food is great, the drinks are great, and the location is awesome. Great job

We needed a bite to eat before leaving Sheboygan and chose this place. Despite hearing people talk about pork belly and bloody mary's at the place next door, this was was very good. I had a Southwestern Chicken Quesadilla and it was fantastic. It was also very big! I also had a Latte, and it was good as well. The espresso was very tasty.

Very nice place in Sheboygan for a good lunch. I have only had their sandwiches and salads. You will notice that a full sandwich is around 10 dollars and the half is around 5.50, that's because the sandwiches are HUGE, but delicious. I always go for the half salad and half sandwich...it makes for a good 10 dollar lunch. It has always been a little crowded when I have been there, but that's a good sign, right?

Located on the riverfront 'boardwalk' in Sheboygen, WI, The Weather Center Cafe serves up various concoctions of Alterra Coffee. During my visit, I became quickly addicted to the iced mocha. Star-who-whats? One taste of Weather's fine coffee instantly removed any desire for corporate coffee that you find at any corner in Yuppieland. Pastries: success Veggie Quische: looks amazing...something to look forward to next time. Alterra Coffee: Just Can't Get Enough! Why can we not import Ms. Weather and her lovely friendly staff to Chicago???

This is hands down my all time favorite restaurant in my hometown. Every time I come home to see my parents, I try to pencil in not one but AT LEAST two stops here. A truly fantastic place. Food: The salads are always fresh and delicious. I have had both and love them equally. I typically order a half size and it is quite a generous portion for one person. I am in LOVE with the sandwiches, especially the ham dingy. I have dreams about it! The bread is phenomenal and it melds perfectly with the ham, cheese, and veggies. Not to mention the mayo. It tastes homemade and it is awesome. I've also had the sandstorm, which is the veggie sandwich. Also delicious. Soup is great too. I haven't had the sweets in the case because I'm not a huge sweets person but I've heard other people rave about it. Service: All the employees are super friendly and nice. I've never had a bad experience with any of them! Crowd: All kinds. Kids, teens, adults, elderly - weather center welcomes all. Very cool, casual place. Other: They serve Alterra coffee. Need I say more? Delicious. They also have tables and chairs to sit on outside in the back when it is nice out. Very cool to sit outside and have a relaxing view of the river and boardwalk. I love it.

Best of the best! The owner Teek puts his heart and soul into his establishment. Great place to hang out with friends. When I visit Sheboygan, you will find me at the Weather Center! I think I had one of the best soups of my life here, a pumpkin spice I believe. Just epic. Craving a Neptuna in Honolulu as I write this! Aloha from Hawaii! Kenny

Good sandwiches, very nice coffee and I love their bakery! The scenery is nice too. The only thing about the place is its a little small but that's perfectly okay!

To start off, I crave Weather Center CONSTANTLY! I suppose it doesn't help that I work less than a block away and could have it at any time. Teek and Shawn are amazing. They are always nice and talk to you like you have been friends for years. I always order the Neptuna (but have had others) and is always spot on. I have never had a bad sandwich, and I am a horribly picky eater. The coffee are too amazing. Mocha Breve is my favorite although I have started to fall in love with their Italian Soda's. They have a million flavors but I enjoy the raspberry. Keep up the good work!!

Nice outdoor seating on Sheboygan's waterfront, Alterra coffee served in large glasses, and surprisingly delicious cheesy sloppy veggie-packed quiche that sent me on a search for similar recipes.

You haven't lived until you've tried a rainbow smoothie. Sadly since this place is in Sheboygan the vast majority of the world will never live. My aunt lives in Sheboygan, as did her two daughters who have since moved away but still had their weddings here. I've been to Sheboygan three times now and every time I absolutely have to stop by the Weather Center. The food here is pretty good. Lots of vegetarian options. I've had a few sandwiches from here and some of the pastries and I have never been disappointed. Everything is great and worth trying. But what they do better than anyone else are smoothies. Well scratch that. The rainbow smoothie. I've never tried any other flavor because this one is just so good. The consistency. The flavor. I could live off of this smoothie. I just want to put on a wetsuit and snorkel and dive into a pool full of rainbow smoothie and drink until I explode (well hopefully I'll have the wherewithal to stop before then...but I'm not sure if I trust myself). So if you live in or near Sheboygan and have tried the rainbow smoothie yet...what is wrong with you? Get over there! And if you're ever in town then head over to the weather center and order that smoothie. You won't be disappointed.

Probably my favorite cafe/restaurant anywhere ever! I have to stop every time I'm anywhere near my hometown. The food is always excellent with fresh ingredients. I usually get the Half sandwich and cup of soup when it's cold out, or a fiesta wrap and a Rainbow Delight smoothie in the warmer months. I've never had a better smoothie, and anyone I introduce to a Weather Center smoothie agrees. The staff is always friendly, and the atmosphere is just right for the Sheboygan Boardwalk (though I'd say the Weather Center pretty much defines the boardwalk). The only negatives I could possibly think of is that sometimes Alterra Coffee is a bit on the strong side for me (to others this is usually a good thing!), and I've had an extended wait for my meal probably once every 7 or so visits, but those times are usually quite busy, and I can forgive a wait for fresh food. Also I don't mind waiting in a place as nice and comfortable as the Weather Center. Definitely check it out if you like fresh natural food, delicious pastries, smoothies, real coffee, and a warm environment!

Beverages are killer. Seriously great. Ambiance is fantastic. The inside is themed without being kitschy and the tables outside are my favorite in town on a nice day. Food is good and you can tell that they use high quality ingredients. There are always a variety of vegetarian and vegan friendly menu items which is often too rare in Sheboygan.

This was our first time eating here and everything was good. We had 3 sandwiches: ham dingy, tuna and roasted vegetables. The soup of the day was coconut chowder which was delicious and the fudge love cupcake was to die for! I would come back just for the soup and cupcake. The coffee, chai and rainbow smoothie were also great! It's a small place so we ate outside and enjoyed the riverfront.

I recently went to the Weather Center with my wife to meet a friend of ours from out of town. We've been going there on and off for years and have always enjoyed the experience. When walking in, the rustic ambiance is both interesting and inviting. The motif fits well with the riverfront location and seems as relaxed as a surfer watching the waves. There are such decorative touches as classic looking nautical maps and the furnishings have a comfortable feel as though a carpenter went to work on driftwood found washed up on the shore. Even though the dining area was expanded a few years ago, the place still retains a cozy feel. The order counter is what you would usually expect from a coffeeshop/cafe with the mandatory glass case full of delicious and rich looking pastries, cookies and savory selections (Such as Breakfast Quiche). The staff is also what you would expect, with the usual colorful styles and fun piercings. The menu has a wide selection of Coffee drinks with interesting names and flavors (like the honey based Latte Cooper), as well as a decent selection of salads, snacks and entrees. My selection for the evening was a "Hurricane Burrito" and a green Ice tea. The green tea wasn't actually on the menu, but they happily brewed some green tea and iced it down for me... so, high marks for catering to the whims of the customer. On the other hand, the burrito was exactly as promised in the menu, huge and tasty. I don't recall if there was any meat in it, but the burrito was hearty and filled with generous amounts of beans and cheese and had a fresh flavor (not a microwave mess). The meal was also served with an ample portion of seasoned chips, a cup of sour cream and a cup of salsa. The experience was relaxed and the tunes playing in the background were a nice mix of folk and chill music which was never played too loudly to drown out the conversation. The mood was perfectly complemented by the rich and dense homemade carrotcake I had for dessert. Yes, the glass case got me! To wrap it up, the food came in a timely manner and the prices are typical for a cafe with $4 coffee drinks, $1.50-$3 for most sweet treats and Entrees under $10.00. It's always great to hang out at the Weather Center and use the free Wifi to kill some time or invite a group of friends to enjoy some good food in a local landmark. You'll be hard pressed to find another Cafe in Sheboygan with a better fusion of location and dining experience.

Not for food... Soup arrived lukewarm at best. When asked to heat it up they put it in the oven because they have no microwave. In the end the soup was still not hot and the pasta was disintegrating. Turkey sandwich was overpriced and very light on the turkey. Frustrating experience. Bad place to be hungry.

I had the black bean burger. It was very good. However, I don't think it was paired well with the bread. The bread was so large and hard that it was difficult and messy to eat. The black bean burger fell apart as I was trying to bite through the hard bread. Overall, I liked them and I will try them again.

This place from my hometown is the coffee shop by which I judge all others. They have Alterra coffee (my favorite), great sticky buns, and a view of the river. I can't count the hours I spent there, but it's the best spot and view for drifting away behind a cup of joe. The view's change a little: no more coal pile, new expensive hotel and condos instead. And they've finally expanded seating. Still, I love going there, even if they have the coldest bathroom in Wisconsin. The owner loves the weather, because he loves to know when the weather is right for surfing. So the place is decorated in related paraphernalia. I stop in everytime I'm in Sheboygan, regardless of whether I need the coffee.

Am I the first person to review this little gem of a coffee shop? What with all the local kids and the alternative element of Sheboygan hanging out here, I am shocked Yelp has not yet found it's way to "She-Vegas", WI. The Weather Center is as I said, a gem of a coffee shop. They serve Alterra Coffee, of course, have home-made goodies, friendly service, comfortable seating, play great music, and the patrons are more suited to a sleepy stoner Humboldt County college town in California than a sleepy small Wisconsin town. The sweetest part is that everyone knows each other and there is an easy air about the place...understated friendliness that is a part of this little town. There is a Natural Foods market that is connected, and it is great when you need the stuff you get at home (CA) that you cant get out of the local Piggly Wiggly. My boyfriend was a fixture here when he lived nearby where he grew up. Ever since I have been coming with him for the yearly family visits, we have made sure to stop by the Weather Center Cafe.

Great little cafe on the riverfront, the coffee is good, the food is amazing, but it lacks the urban feel of other coffeehouses, i.e. I'm just sitting here on my laptop, minding my own business, and people can't help but stare. Perhaps it just isn't busy enough to get lost in the crowd.

When visiting my daughter, we walk almost daily along the waterfront. We end our walks with a visit to this "alternative coffee shop" to enjoy a snack and tea/espresso. What is equally refreshing is the totally relaxed atmosphere and the always-friendly staff. The snacks I've had have always hit the spot and, for the money, are very good - during our winter walks I get the daily soup special - it never disappoints. This is definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

This was an adorable, little wood-paneled cafe that my boyfriend's parents took us to on one visit to Sheboygan. I had a really excellent quesadilla (though I can't remember what was in it), and the others had sandwiches and nachos. It was a pleasant experience with fast, friendly service. Plus, the location can't be beat--it's right on the river, which makes for a nice walk afterwards on a sunny day.

I had a half salad with house dressing and half of a Neptuna sandwich. Both were excellent. The dressing was avocado based, light and extremely flavorful - so flavorful that I added it to each bite of my sandwich. The tuna sandwich was also very good (especially with the house dressing). The tuna was not overwhelmed with mayo and it didn't have a fishy taste to it at all. The bread tasted like it was fresh baked - slightly crunchy crust and soft chewy middle. They also have a big selection of fresh baked goods too. I shared a strawberry and vanilla scone and an apple walnut muffin and both were very good. Not too sweet, didn't taste too buttery or fatty and lots of flavor. Lastly, the ambience is great. You get a laid back and quiet setting next to the lake and you can have a nice meal with a cup of coffee and enjoy good conversation with your friends. I can't wait to come back. Great experience!
