We had a late reservation. In town with 7 other guys for a golf weekend at Kohler, some of the guys wanted to play golf till dark so we arrived at about 8 p.m. As those that live here in Wisconsin (the land of the 3 o'clock happy hour) know, 8 o'clock it a late dinner reservation even in the bigger cities so I was a bit concerned that we might be the only diners in the place. However, a few patrons were still there finishing their dinners and the staff was very accommodating. We had a wonderful experience at Rupps. The Prime Rib was outstanding. Service was timely and very friendly. We loved this place. Several "locals" stopped by our table to chat with our group of out of town golfers and to thank us for our business in their town...it was very charming and it left my group of guys - who came from both coasts - with a very high regard for Wisconsin folks.

If you are a "person of a certain age" Rupp's will remind you of a restaurant you visited with your parents for special family occasions. So, while it indeed looks outdated, it made me feel nostalgic...from our genuinely friendly server Patty, to the soft delicious dinner rolls, to the traditional salad bar, to the generous dinner portions, Rupp's was a true walk down memory lane. So, trendy hipsters are probably spending their money elsewhere, but if they want a good meal, they should make it a point to give Rupp's a try. My rib eye came with the salad bar and soup, so I tried the Mexican dumpling soup, which had a very fresh, peppery tomato flavor and subtle tasty dumplings. The broth had just a slight bit of kick. Ah, an old fashioned salad bar! It had the basics and more..lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrot sticks, several dressings, potato salad, slaw, three-bean salad...it went on and on...and all very fresh. My rib eye was cooked perfectly and I went with American fries as my side. My wife went with a deep-fried walleye, which included two large filets that she thoroughly enjoyed. To top it all off, we walked out the door spending under $70, including tip! Rupp's was an awesome blast from the past, with great food and service for today.

Don't judge this restaurant by the outside or the impression you get when you first walk in....it's a bit dated. I travel for a living all over the world and I usually enjoy a steak whenever possible, with that said the steak here was one of the best I have had in a long time. The loaded baked potato was really good with the melted cheese. Or waitress was very patient with us as there were 5 of us at the table and three different ways to separate the bills according to our companies expense account rules.....she was very accommodating .

We had New Year's Eve dinner here the past 2 years. The steak & shrimp we all had to eat was excellent. Our waitress was good. Our only complaint was the bartenders seemed unfriendly and crabby.

Loved Rupp's for many years. Must eat place for old time German and American food.

Steaks were outstanding. Three of us ordered the prime rib, and one ordered the New York strip. The prime rib was tender and flavorful, and the strip was also very tender and had a great crisp sear on it. It was this great experience of being so crispy on the outside, yet so tender and juicy on the inside. Amazing. The au jus was savory and meaty. Service was outstanding--waitress was extremely nice and had great recommendations. Got a ton of food for the price: $35 (not including tip) got a huge piece of prime rib, salad from the salad bar, a cup of soup (try the Swiss Onion!), a bread basket, a baked potato, 2 10oz beers, and a dessert. My only complaint is that the baked potato was a little crusty. Clientele is around the 40s and 50s. For out-of-towners, they have New Glarus beer--try the Spotted Cow!

We were in town for a few nights and needed a break from the resort food. The food here was great and the BBQ Rib Special was outstanding. The only thing keeping them from a 5 star review was our waitress, who was just not on the ball, forgetting kids menus, not knowing the menu updates, taking too late by to bring and process the check.

Excellent choice. This is the oldest restaurant in Sheboygan. It has a classic feel. THe bartender gave us a docent style description of the woodwork... Pretty cool...as well as great Martinis. Decor in dining room could use some help. Food is great and there's no such thing as a small portion. I got the petite prime rib...14oz After salad bar, soup, and the potato that all comes with it. The liver and onions was enough to feed a small army All tasty! Great price Good service

Pretty decent place, classy ambiance. Excellent prices for the drinks, especially the Rupp's Amber on tap. All staff very nice, cheerful & friendly.

I have been going to this restaurant for years. It the best steak in Sheboygan in my opinion. I normally get the steak and shrimp or steak and lobster and it is to die for. Their salad bar is great, I love their home made warm rolls, we always have good service, and they make good drinks. If you are going out for fine dining in Sheboygan I would suggest Rupp's to anyone. I rated it a 4 only because it's a bit pricey and the decor is a bit out dated.

I trekked in a snowstorm from my hotel to Rupps because I heard they had good steaks. The meal was well worth the bitter cold. I had a ribeye which I still think about. There was also a solid salad bar and a neat old bar with wood carvings and old mirrors. The atmosphere is dark and quiet, and you do feel like you're walking into a restaurant designed in many many years ago, but that's not uncommon in my experiences in the area.

I hate to do this to a restaurant with such a hard working chef. In fact, the food deserves three stars but the service was atrocious!! We got there a bit before 8PM on a Thursday (well, tonight). The place was empty aside from people at the bar (and if we ever go back, I think that's where we will sit.) Yes it's out dated but its from 1939 and that's fine. My fiance had the Reuben with a potato onion soup. The soup was decent and as a Reuben connoisseur, he said it was above average. I myself got the steak tenderloin tips in a heavy gravy sauce with onions, mushrooms, and supposedly red wine. Also it came with an undressed baked potato and the salad bar. The service... o... wow. the service was so terrible. The girl that sat us had a bad attitude, and our server, while polite, was not 'there' but totally distracted and chatting with the other girl all night. Back to the salad bar - it looked perfectly fine, aside from the fact there was no SALAD (ie lettuce). We had to wait for that for quite some time. No bread was delivered to our table, so the previous commenter had a much better experience than we did. I even saw bread baskets and couldn't believe we were being treated so poorly. Even when my baked potato came I had to ask for butter. Not to mention, though they asked my fiance if he wanted a refill on his soda, they never inquired about my wine. I had to ask for a glass of Shiraz (don't bother with the merlot, it's awful). Then, when we were basically done with dinner but out of soda, we waited another extended period even trying to get the waitress's attention for more soda - and when she brought it, she took my wine glass without even asking if I wanted any more. Whomever owns this restaurant needs to have a big talk with their staff. The chefs did a fine job delivering our food (I also had a cream of broccoli soup that was fine).. I imagine nothing here will blow you away if you have a refined pallet, but probably most things will meet with your expectations of an old-school steakhouse. ....That is, unless they had good service, once upon a time.
