Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Well I have been going here since they opened ten years ago. Why ? The frozen Margaritas are the best! The food is actually improving! It used to be substandard but they must have gotten a new chef and its actually much better than it was a year or two ago! Just a word of caution. The bartenders don't like to work past ten thirty on weekends so be prepared to drink early or get out. They are actually rude if you stick around too late. They swoop your drink glasses up as a hint to get out. Maybe the owner should realize most people don't start drinking till nine or ten. Too bad they can't stay open longer on the weekends. Southwest roll ups great. So is the burger!

Man, I feel bad even writing this because the wait staff was so nice... Oh where to begin though. I ordered the surf and turf, steak and shrimp. Ordered my steak medium rare, but got it well done... Not happy, but ok, sent it back. Waiter asked if I wanted to keep my shrimp though and it that first. I said no, I prefer to eat it all together. Ok, so it comes back out again, this time the steak is rare... REALLY rare. Oh, and the shrimp was so tough that I tried tearing it apart and all it would do is bend and stretch... Which tells me they didn't re-fire my shrimp either... Needless to say, I said I no longer wanted it and to take it off my bill...My wife ordered a wrap that was bad too. Lettuce in the wrap was horribly brown. Like I said, felt bad for the waitstaff but clearly this chef had no business being in a kitchen. Buyer beware!

For the rather low star rating of so many reviews, I may seem overly generous, but this really is a good place for dinner. Located in the heart of the touristy area of Sheboygan near the river and not far from Lake Michigan, this is a Caribbean/ Mexican restaurant. The outside sort of looks like a lighthouse. We came inside and there is a definite tropical feel to the whole place. It was spring break week but not busy at all, though I bet it's packed here in the summer months since these are the northern tropics of Wisconsin in July and August. Highland House has lots of options for whatever you may be in the mood for. We were unable to decide where to go for dinner in Sheboygan. My wife wanted a burger, I wanted Mexican, my older son was fine with mac and cheese, and my 8 year old wanted plain noodles. We got all that we wanted right here. I got a steak burrito with really good rice and beans on the side. We all split a platter of nachos. There was also fish, shrimp, and chicken if we had been in the mood for that. From my travels through WI, the definition of Mexican cuisine varies greatly, as to what constitutes a burrito or taco. They got it right with a robust flavored salsa and steak in my burrito, with plenty of cheese too. I was well-fed after the dinner. Service was attentive and prompt. There were other people there but it was not packed nor did we have to wait. I would come back here and not let the negatively slanted star rating persuade me.

This looked like a really cool place and is located on the water. Our waitress was really sweet. Chips and dip brought to table are yum, with a salty/spicy seasoning on them, which is good, however, it seems the same seasoning is used on all the meats. Chicken I ordered was very thickly coated with the overpowering seasoning and inedible. My husband had steak fajitas, which were also very disappointing! Same seasoning used on steak and the steak meat was so tough we couldn't put a fork in it. We left without finishing our meals.

OMG where do I start this review. When we first arrived the parking lot was full and we were told it was a 30 minute wait. Well that is usually a good sign because its crowded and people must like it if they are waiting 30 minutes on a Monday night for a table. We were offered to sit and wait at the bar in which we did. The bartender was more annoyed then helpful. The staff kind of mentioned he gets grumpy when it is busy. Well no tip for you then. He did not even greet us just kind of stared with annoyed look on his face. You may be in the wrong line of service. I had a beer, my co-worker had a drink, he said it was ok, a bit strong though. After a 25 minute wait we were seated, the first thing I noticed was the restaurant was half empty. WTF?! why did we just wait almost a half an hour to be seated when there were 11 empty tables? Oh because they are completely understaffed. The menu was a complete and utter train wreck. The restaurant claimed to be a latin/seafood restaurant. They had latin cuisine and seafood, along with Chinese, italian, america, Caribbean and tex-mex. This is usually not a good sign because the cooks can not focus on making good simple food. I ordered the pulled pork tacos and my co-workers ordered the fajitas. The waiter brought us chips sprinkled with old bay seasoning? Horrible combination had to knock the seasoning off to get to the, oh wait for it, stale tasteless chips. The salsa was jarred and tasted worse then pace. They also brought out a side of ranch dressing with the chips? Made no sense and tasted just as bad. When the food arrived my plate looked appetizing. The food was utterly bland. The pork was smoked but it had no flavor. The beans were ok tasted canned and the rice was decent. We asked for some hot sauce for our items because they were so bland. The waiter brought out some of the restaurants best and hottest that they called voodoo sauce. Basically it was tabasco sauce with a lot of garlic. It actually made my tacos taste worse. My co-workers ordered the combination platter of fajitas. It was suppose to come with chicken, steak and shrimp. When the dish arrived it did not have any steak. They asked the waiter where the steak was and he stated he came with shrimp and your choice of chicken or steak. "So you decided we should have chicken?" -coworker. Waiter offered to take it back but they turned it down because we were hungry and didn't want to wait longer. They said there was hardly any meat. It was a ton of over steamed vegetables that were soggy and tasteless. The dish only came with 3 tortillas which was not enough. We all left feeling that taco bell would have been a better option. HORRIBLE

Yikes! Came here for the 4th time on Sunday night. Our waitress seemed very new by the shakiness in her voice. I ordered a bloody mary with spice and when i got it i almost choked. It was so spicy i couldn't drink it. I felt like a jerk but i had to send it back. Being a bloody lover i could tell there we're probably 5/6 shakes of tobasco in there. One or v two would have been ok. Waitress took our order and came back 10 minutes later asking for our order again because she forgot to write it down . Really??? So we gave her the order for a 2nd time, asking for my burger medium rare. We got our food pretty quick and i took 2 bites of burger and realized it tasted funny. It was barely even cooked on outside. I do like my burgers pink but jeez i didn't say rare. They took it back and brought me another one that was well done, i suppose they were scared to under cook a second time. I guess i can't win. I never send things back anywhere i go but this place struck out. Very sad as i really like coming here.

To fully appreciate the Highland House, you have to buy into their "you're on vacation when you're here" mantra. That's the only way you will truly experience this restaurant. The food choices are a bit overwhelming at first (the menu is over four pages long), but the food quality is decent. To be clear, this isn't a game changing culinary experience, but for the price and what it is, the food is good. The drinks are good and surprisingly affordable ($9.99 for a hurricane bucket). What makes this place special is the way everything comes together. The great view outside, the variety of food choices, fun menu items and festive atmosphere come together to create a fun dining experience that really does make you feel like you're on vacation.
(4)Barry L.
Kid friendly nice atmosphere. Large southwest, Mexican, pasta and seafood type dishes. First time here. Food is average but great service.
(3)Jeanne Z.
After kayaking, went to Highland House on recommendation from Andrew (eos outdoor). The service was great - the food was better than any lunch expectations we could have hoped for. At our request we were able to sit outside in the sun, our service was fast & friendly and the food was perfect. All six orders came out exactly as wished for, same as the appetizers and drinks. To sum it up, a fabulous outdoor lunch dining experience after a fun day of kayaking!
(5)Jullian S.
Ill give 3 stars. Service was great, I liked the setting in the bar but the food was just ok. Not bad, just ok.
(3)Paul J.
My wife and I eat here more than any other restaraunt in town. The food is fantastic and they have a bunch of different options to choose from, and have great specials every day. The atmosphere makes you feel like you're in the carribbean or mexico. FUN!
(5)Cookie A.
Oh, the tortilla soup is delicious. The outdoors patio beautiful. The staff helpful & quick. Can't wait to go back.
(4)John G.
Dinner here was better than el camino Idk why it has an average four star rating.
(4)joe n.
This is an OK place for on-the-water dining but don't expect much in the way of top quality food. I had the crab cakes which might be better labeled bread cakes with essence of crab - very little crab, lots of bread. My wife and daughter had the teriyaki chicken which they felt was OK. If you stick to the basics, like a burger, it should be OK - better than some of the restaurants on the water in Sheboygan but not by that much. Strictly on food I'd give it 2 stars - the location earned it another star.
(3)Travis R.
Go with what you know. Been here a few times with my family that is from out of town. The restaurant is in an excellent location, right on the water and has just the best river views. The first time I was in the waiter offered us 2 for 1 margaritas. He then discussed the size of the margaritas and said that the 2 for 1 deal is basically the same size as buying 1 regular margarita. What kind of special is that? And why the heck would you be telling us that? Don't get me wrong I do appreciate the honesty but not the best start for a group of 6. As for the food go with what you know. Do not try to scour the menu and think you're going to find a hidden gem of something you've never had before. I had the chipotle bowtie pasta and it was less than savory. Stick to the burgers, BBQ ribs and wraps and fajitas. The only item to think outside the box would be the Chinese tootsie rolls. They are phenomenal...and deep fried. What isn't good deep fried? The only other difficult part of the restaurant is that in the summer they do not put out any bug candles. Every time I dined there this summer as soon as the sun started to set, the bugs would just eat you alive. Last I checked it didn't cost too much to pick up a box of non-scented citronella candles and keep your guest from itching their way through a meal.
(3)Sam C.
I agree with Hungry R. The place is just average. Wait staff has always been friendly and attentive, but the food is only OK. My kids like it, but they're still into chicken strips and kids' menu burgers. While it's never a first choice for us, we do somehow end up there more often than I'd like. Probably due to convenience more than anything else. When we can't come up with another idea or if our first choice is too busy, we always have Highland House. The menu is fairly eclectic, but weighted toward Mexican.
(3)Suzy S.
Solid lunch place, very kid friendly. The shrimp tacos are fantastic.
(3)Sheila P.
New Year's Eve - worst meal/service I have ever had. We have been to this restaurant during the summer and it was ok, maybe 3 stars. This time, fruit flies, RAW steak (after I requested medium well), charged for meals sent back, etc. It was so bad I wonder if there is new management or owners.
(1)Kristen P.
I have tried this place twice. First time ordered from their mexican selections and was not impressed. Was edible but that is about it. 2nd time, went this week and decided to try the crab cakes. Well, that sealed the deal. Tasted fishy, was not crunchy like a crab cake should be. Tasted like frozen crab cakes that had been around a while. It was disgusting and hard to eat. The owners should take up watching some food network shows such as restaurant impossible. Menu way too big and all over the place. Should use FRESH ingredients.

Alright, I am trying to figure out all the negative reviews. I had eaten at the location in Mequon before this, and it was great. I expected the same here and it was pretty close but not quite as good. I would say it deserves a solid 3 or 4 stars, most likely depending on the service that night. First, the menu is a little strange. It's a weird hybrid of Mexican and American; once you wrap your head around that and the lakeside/fishing decor, it's easier to understand it and not be so turned off by trying to figure out what exactly is going on. The night we went it wasn't busy, and we were seated right away. The service was friendly, quick, and nothing to complain about. We ordered drinks and the Margaritas are top notch. Chips and salsa are plentiful, however I did find the guacamole to be a little bland. I ordered chicken fajitas, and the serving size was ample for me to take home leftovers. It wasn't greasy or overcooked. My fiance' ordered the lobster and shrimp enchiladas, and they were decent. Overall, there are better "Mexican" restaurants in town, but this is a nice place, on the river, and is worth a try.

It was just meh. I'm visiting from out of town and was lost trying to find another place that had great reviews on yelp, I should have tried harder to find the other place... This place has such an amazing location, but the exterior signifies an entirely different place than you might expect. It's mainly Mexican food I think? But such a mish mash of other stuff i wasn't sure! The chips were oily and stale, then the sauce they put on my sweet corn cakes tasted sour, like rotten sour. And the only redeeming thing was the sour cream and chive fries... Which were obviously frozen not fresh. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you just want to sit on the patio and drink a New Glarus spotted cow, which is delicious but has nothing to do with any food production. Don't waste your time!
(2)S G.
Surprised by all the negative reviews. I gave only 3 stars because I rate as if 5 is unbelievably exceptional; we had a very good experience here. Even though we were warned upon entry that they had a limited menu due to an equipment malfunction, we didn't feel cheated. We enjoyed a beautiful day on their patio, decent service, and the best slaw I've ever had (red cabbage and walnuts). Fish and chips were very good, at reasonable price for a big plate of food. Place had a funky decor but clean and welcoming, all the staff I encountered were very pleasant. It was easily the best dining experience on our 3 day WI trip--and the others weren't bad.
(3)Meghan H.
Food was just ok. Have been here twice, once on fourth of July a few years back, can't remember what I had, but it was just ok. More recently, went for dinner with friends. I had steak tacos, the steak was flavorless and dry. No hot sauce or anything on the table to kick it up a bit (and waitress very busy, hard to ask). Shortly thereafter, I felt really sick to my stomach (I know you can never predict if it was really from the food or not) but overall kind of sealed the deal for me. I doubt we go back.
(2)Katy G.
Not bad, but could have been a whole lot better. First, there were the conflicting signs as to which host station to go to to get a seat outside. Then, we were seated right smack dab under a speaker, so conversation was a little difficult. Chips and salsa (and ranch...) were brought out quickly and were pretty good. Our server seemed fairly inexperienced when it came time to order. We had to remind him about the fries options for some of the dishes; and when our food was brought out, two of the orders were given to the wrong person, despite him confirming what each one was. We didn't realize until after a few bites of each wrap that we'd been given the wrong food. But at the end of the day, the food itself was alright once plates were swapped. The menu here is fairly eclectic, but I'm not sure that's a good thing. I really didn't get a sense of what this place is trying to be. Seafood, Mexican, salads and wraps, burgers, sandwiches, and pasta? What's that saying again about the jack of all trades?
(3)J L.
Well, the other negative reviews are correct. The food is pretty bad here. I think the owners have a good location and fun theme going, but need to work seriously on the extremely poor food quality. (You may also want to take off the menu "thanks to Sysco food" which is telling. Our salsa was spoiled, the chips were stale, the jerk chicken is just doused in tabasco, and the kids taco was hopefully real meat. I think I would stick to beers on the deck. I hope the owners read this and understand how bad it is and work on it.
(2)Nina Y.
Pretty much like a family owned Chili's. We had a pomegranate margarita (you could taste a bit too much tequila), Manuel's tacos with seasoned beef, chicken stuffed tortilla, and southwest roll ups. The southwest roll ups were great. The nachos they put on the table were crisp and not overly seasoned (as is the case with salty chip Chili's). Tacos were fine, pretty basic. My boyfriend had the stuffed tortilla and he says "uh...(shrugs) it was good. Flavorful." For the price you're paying it was fine. The server was very chipper and friendly. He was very attentive. They offer a wide variety of discounts so I can see they've probably built up a pretty loyal following. Atmosphere was pretty cheesy but we're fine with it.
(4)Troy S.
I never thought a Mexican and Seafood restaurant would be so good, but they have a great menu with lots of options, fast service and really good food. The Guac was ok, but everything else I have had has been terrific. Bar pours nice sized drinks too.
(4)Sidney G.
Was here with several friends at the bar. I checked the restroom first thing and it seems they've cleaned up the place since the last time I was here. I ordered a bottle of beer just to be safe. One of my party mentioned that the bartender was a bit cranky, but I can't say I noticed. We ordered appetizers to share and everything was OK.
(3)Perrin S.
This place looks really cute on the outside and is decorated real cute, but the food is comparable to an even lower quality Applebees. My fish tacos were pretty bad and my Margarita was from a pre-mix in a bottle. That's what I get for ordering the low calorie option... Huge facility, beautiful and on the water--great for going out to lunch with coworkers or to happy hour with a big group after work. They have a great 1/2 price happy hour deal everyday (if I remember correctly)--classic Wisconsin.
(2)Cami G.
BLEH! We just moved here beginning of May and decided to order Highland House through the Sheboygan-to-go website. I was so craving spinach & artichoke dip and saw that they had it! Anxiously awaiting my order, once it arrived I took 2 chips and dove into the green colored dip (yes GREEN colored! not natural color, more like food coloring) O.M.G it was NASTY, the nastiest thing I have tasted in a long time. It was more like a moose not a dip, and was not at all like spinach & artichoke! The restaurant is beautiful on the outside, looks like it would have tasty food, but so far at least for delivery...NO! Icky!
(2)Bryan M.
The building was in great location and had all the potential to be a great dinner. Our waitress was on the dingy side of reality and messed up the drink orders. After a 30min wait for food, it came out and was room temp and almost cold. It had pretty much died in the window. One order was sizzling chicken fajitas which were not even steaming when they were brought out. The other two orders were the Mahi Mahi and the beef tips which were tough and chewy and barely warm. When we told the waitress she looked at us confusingly so we asked for a manager. I have never done this before but we sent all three meals back and left.
(1)Jen B.
I should have yelped first! We were driving through town after a trip to Kohler and stumbled across this restaurant. Attractive structure...check. Near the lake...check. Lots of cars in the parking lot...check. Huge marlin fish by the door...check. Should be good seafood! Meh! From the outside decor and structure one would think this is going to be a seafood place. By the looks of the indoor decor, it appears to be like a vacation spot similar to the Florida keys. Open up the menu, and it's Mexican! Weird. This place has the case of lost identity. Too many options on the menu and just so so food. With the location, size and decor, this place could be a slammin'! But with a confusion in identity, the food is only so so and not worth visiting. Really, keep driving.
(2)Stevie C.
Quote of the evening - "Why do they put a swordfish on their sign if they don't serve it?" Run of the mill mexican. The hotel concierge told us that Highland House did too much ok rather than some things great. Since we had that warning we weren't really looking forward to too much. I was happy with the service but our wine glasses had lipstick still on the rim. It wasn't just one or two or three...it was all on them so I'm not really sure how I feel about their hygiene. The chips come with some sort of spices on them. I didn't really care for the homemade doritos vibe. Just give me some cool rance in the bag instead of trying to be Martha Stewart. A decent alternative to the bigger chains but you could better.
(3)Jacqueline G.
Right by the lake and next to downtown Sheboygan- a perfect location. And this place is huge! The decor is brightly colored, beachy, and fun. The employees were all wearing Hawaiian shirts. It made me feel like I was back on my honeymoon in Key West, FL. The menu is just as big as the place, with a large variety of food- appetizers, salads, seafood, chicken, steak, pasta, vegetarian, Mexican, desserts... Our waitress was great, and the food came out quickly. I ordered the Highland (cheese burger) with fries- very good. And I had the Killer Brownie for dessert- brownie, vanilla ice cream, whip cream, caramel and chocolate sauce- SO YUMMY! Jake ordered the Black Pepper Bistro Steak with garlic smashed potatoes and fresh asparagus. I didn't sneak a bite of his steak (he said it was great)- but I couldn't keep my fork away from the smashed potatoes! Another SO YUMMY vote from me! For dessert, Jake ordered the Key Lime pie. I stole a bite of that, too. Yup- it was sooo yummy! :) We had a great time, and I know for sure we'll go back again.
(5)D M.
This place is bad. I wanted a carry out menu. I waited for 5 minutes with the staff just chatting at the bar. When a carry out person came through the door she just completely ignored me. Never will come back.

I have been dining at the Highland House in Sheboygan, shortly after it opened. I enjoy the casual atmosphere, where you can almost imagine you're on vacation, especially if you enjoy margaritas! Recently, I seem to be dining at the Highland house more often for lunch than for dinner, so I'll review my most recent trip, which was for lunch today! We decided to enjoy our lunch on their fabulous deck, which overlooks the Sheboygan River and Riverfront area. I ordered the Sante Fe Chicken Salad, which is always great for lunch, and my friend ordered the Teriyaki Chicken wrap, with sweet potato fries. They also offer waffle fries, french fries, sour cream and chive fries or seasoned white rice with their wraps. Both of our lunch choices were great! I've added a picture of each of them so you can see the presentation. Both were very fresh and tasty and we'll order them again! The sweet potatoe fries were also hot and steamy--some of the best I've ever tasted! My friend shared the generous serving with me! While we were dining, however, there seemed to be a heavy concentration of wasps in the area. Granted it is that time of the year, but it became rather a nuisance to us both. (This is the only negative thing I've ever experienced there). We then asked our waitress, Alexandra, if we could move inside to finish our lunch. She was so very great about it, and totally awesome & understanding! This made up for the wasps, by far. So we finished in our lunch in their very festively painted dining room. (picture also added) Alexandra was such a super friendly waitress, and such an asset to the Highland House! Another thing too good to forget---they have a Customer Loyalty Card, which is such a great deal. With it, you earn $10 for every 100 points (a point for each dollar spent). On Mondays, you even get double points! For the card holder and their spouse, you get an extra 100 points (or $10 added) on each of your birthdays---along with the FREE margarita, that was mentioned in an earlier review. (So, I'm also posting a picture of this card, since it is so great!) They deserve 5 stars for the vacation atmosphere alone--especially when our Sheboygan winters are so long, and the hope of summer seems years away! Come to the Highland House, "Where you're always on vacation!"
(5)Beth Z.
Stopped with a group of six for dinner. The service was outstanding! Food was 'ok'. The restaurant feels like a chain restaurant- a bit loud and noisy. We all ordered various enters for dinner. My Lettuce Cups were not prepared in a traditional manner and I don't recommend them. We were however very pleased with our waiter! Attentive, friendly and he took very good care of us!
(4)Aaron F.
I've been here a couple times since summer and have not been disappointed. Usually it was lunch fare but tonight I stopped for dinner. Dijon Steak was perfect and the brownie put me in food coma! Love the warm vacation-like feel inside when it's so cold outside.
(4)David T.
I am really disappointed with our decision to go here. The quality of the food is marginal at best. Bland is the only word that best describes this menu. I should have read the reviews here before choosing to go here for dinner. My guess is that this is a great place to have some cocktails ( since it is hard to mess up a corona or a vodka lemonade) Our server, Kevin, was very pleasant and did a good job. I can not blame him for the food. However, he should have known something was wrong when he came to pick up the plates and saw most of the food was still on them. We had three of their "specials o'da house " and none of them are worth talking about. Blackened shrimp quesadilla had no "blackened"' anything making it blah. The seafood Alfredo was a messy bowl of angel hair pasta and bland shrimp/scallops and the pineapple salmon was the quality equivalent of any college student prepared quick dinner. I enjoy watching the TV show Restaurant Impossible. I can't help thinking of all of the countless restaurants that Chef Irvine saves. All of them originally believe their food is great and doesn't need changes, only to find out that it is processed garbage. It reminds me of a Sysco supplied school or hospital cafeteria. The menu is way too big. They need to focus on fewer items and have fresher, authentic/unique options.

This place is a joke. We waited over an hour for our food and when we finally got it our cheesburgers were BEYOND CHAR-BROILED.... they were crusted black and burnt - tasted terrible! French fries were not hot. I will never go back here. Confused menu = terrible dining. They should stick to what foods they know how to cook.
(1)Scott V.
This is a nice looking place with a large menu. The service was good, the food was good, the decor was good. There is nothing here that will blow your mind, but it seems like a solid place to go for dinner. Many vegetarian item available, which is great. My party had the avocado rolls that were great, fish tacos-great, Chicken BLT-ok, enchiladas-good and sweet potato fries-good. I will eat here again and recommend it to others. FWIW.
(4)Mark R.
Pretty good food, but it's a bit on the pricey side. I love the atmosphere, and the service is good. Just, like I said, the prices are a bi high for being basically Mexican food.
(3)Nathan W.
Came here for a Geocaching "Meet and Greet". We had the upstairs all to ourselves for our group of around 40. The service was outstanding, they kept checking on our drinks, making sure we were all taken care of. Food came out very quick and was above average. Enjoyed the decor and was a great place for our event. Will definitely come back.

I have been a patron of the Highland House in Sheboygan since it opened but am just now getting around to reviewing it. I have been to the Mequon location and was happy when they opened a location here in Sheboygan! My sister and I were there last night to celebrate her birthday! Of course, that means FREE Birthday Margarita!! (and free glass too!) Our waitress was the best! She was able to get my sister her free margarita even though her actual birthday was today. (We couldn't make it today). We each had a peach margarita...yum!! HH has some of the best margaritas around! We munched on chips and sipped our drinks while waiting for our food. I ordered the La Rio (enchiladas) and my sis got a Chicken Burrito. Each came with seasoned rice and refried black beans. Our food was awesome! Everything tasted super fresh and the portion sizes were great for the price. The Highland House has a great atmosphere and the staff are welcoming and accommodating. It is a great place to celebrate a birthday or any special event. I can't wait until my birthday this summer! :) If you get Alexandra for a waitress, prepare for a great experience! She was an awesome server and made the dinner even more special. Thanks!

I had the world's smallest fish fry at the Highland House in Sheboygan on Friday (8/31/2012). I ordered the Lake Perch fry and I received 3 of the tiniest Perch fillets (1/2 of the fish, no more than 2 ounces of Lake Perch) ever seen. At first glance, I was sure they had forgotten the Perch, but then I realized the Perch were there but they were entirely covered up by the french fries. I asked the waitress about it as I was in disbelief (as were all of my 5 lunch partners), I thought maybe some had fallen off the plate. She apologized and said it looked REALLY small to her as well, and that she would check with the kitchen to see if anything could be done. She never reported back to me until we were paying our bill at which point she said there was nothing that could be done about it. Well... that is actually wrong though. Yes there is something that can be done about it, and I am doing it.

I had the portabella fajitas and the portabellas were horrible. They were either bad or overcooked. I ate the fajitas with just the onions and peppers. I should have said something, but I was pressed for time.

Perhaps the biggest disappointment in a local restaurant that I've had. The slow service was only exceeded by terrible, overpriced food. I didn't learn from the first visit, but then I was talked into going there again. My first impression was confirmed. Never again. The food tasted like it was prepared by amateurs, salty and tasteless. I don't mean to be mean, but I gave it two chances.

Still just ok, literally everything is just ok. Probably the most ok place I've ever eaten.
