Let me begin by saying that there were probably 15 people waiting to get a table when my party left El Camino at 6:45 pm on a Thursday, so I would suggest ignoring bad reviews. We are in Sheboygan people! I have been here on several occasions and have never been disappointed. Jose' was an awesome server and accommodated every request quickly (e.g. we forgot to order guac and he had it to the table in 2 minutes). Most of our party (not huge Mexican food fans) ordered chicken quesadillas and simply destroyed their meal. Everyone was very happy with their choice. We all enjoyed the guacamole as well, which had very subtle flavors and no lime (thank you!) which many restaurants ruin by drowning in bitter citrus, covering the awesome avocado flavor. They also provide delicious chips and salsa, with mild and "hot" salsa options. The mild is full of tomato and cilantro flavors. The hot salsa is flavorful with a little kick. I went ala carte this time, trying 3 tacos - steak, pork, and beef, along with a side of rice. The steak and pork were very flavorful and a great complement to the fresh corn tortillas. The beef was a little disappointing and could have used a little spice. El Camino's traditional Margarita is good, but I've had better. It tastes like a bottle mix with tequila. But I'm not complaining. My only suggestion would be for El Camino to offer some hot sauce options. I used our hot salsa, which worked out just fine, but I'm sure someone in their kitchen has thoughts on a killer hot sauce. If you are in Sheboygan and need a Mexican food fix, I can't think of anywhere better to go than El Camino.

The servers are good, if not a bit too anxious. When busy they are buzzing throughout the dining areas. The restaurant is clean and neat. Tables salsas are very good. Caldo De Cameron is spicy with nice sized shrimp. Steaming hot! Ordered a side Lenqua taco. A little bland but good. Corn tortillas are not greasy! Hubs got the steak plate with cheese enchiladas and beef taco. He said it was very good. He has had this before here too. Wish we lived closer. I'd say 3.5 stars.

This place is so good!!! Everytime I go I try something different. The flavors and the consistency is remarkable. I always seem to to get something with steak, the meat is always very tender and wonderfully seasoned. If you like Mexican food try this place out,

I've been here a few times now, and it never disappoints. Last night, my girlfriend and I went to El Camino for dinner, and it was a lovely experience. We were seated immediately. Thankfully, we didn't mind sitting inside. There was a bit of a wait for the patio seating upstairs. We quickly got our drinks, and a basket of free chips and two salsas, one mild and one hot. The interior is exactly what you'd expect for an American-Mexican place. Brightly colored walls, Day of the Dead and other decorations on the walls, Mexican music playing in the background. It was busy, but not too loud or crowded. To start out, we ordered an appetizer of Super Nachos with chicken ($9.25). These are standard nachos with your choice of chicken or beef, cheese, jalapenos, sour cream, and guacamole. Super nachos indeed. The portion was MASSIVE. But more importantly, it was delicious. It came out in all of 5 minutes, but was cooked well and hot, the cheese was completely melted. I was impressed. Then came our entrees. My girlfriend ordered a #1 Combination Platter ($10.25) which comes with Chicken enchilada, chicken tostada, and a chicken taco, plus rice and beans. She also added on a chicken burrito ($4.25). She loved all of it, and kept bouncing happily from item to item, unable to decide what to eat next. I ordered the chicken chimichangas ($11). It comes two to an order, plus rice and beans. I also added on a chile relleno ($3.75). The chimichangas were good, like always. Crisp on the outside. The chicken in the middle was so juicy and flavorful- dry chicken has never been an issue of mine at El Camino. The chile relleno was just okay, it wasn't super flavorful and could have used more cheese. But it was edible. We skipped on the dessert this time but I recommend their fried ice cream, it's delicious. This place is great for the price. We both enjoyed our meal, and we walked away with full stomachs and three to-go containers worth of food to enjoy later. You can't beat that!

Food came out in minutes. Not prepared fresh that's for sure. Mediocre at best. I'll stick with Qudoba.

Food is gross and taste like it's been microwaved! Rude staff and owner does not care about customers complaints. Never going back! I would give negative stars but 1 is the only option so beware people!!

The food is good but they treat the Hispanic community like complete trash. If you're Caucasian, then this is the place for you, considering the fact that they will provide you excellent service. As for hispanics, they give dirty looks, take forever to take your order and rarely check up on you. I find it quite ungrateful on their part, since it was the Hispanics that made their restaurant known around town. I think my family and I will stop coming here, good thing there is other Mexican restaurants in town, that treat customers equally.

I can't believe the reviews I'm reading. Authentic Mexican is by far not what this place is. I ordered the #5 which comes with two cheese enchiladas and a chicken taco. To my surprise, the food came within 2 minutes of my order being placed. As I look at my plate and see the cheese smothered in flavorless red sauce and stale tortilla, I come to notice my "authentic" hard shell chicken taco, again, with flavorless chunks of chicken. I literally poured my "spicy" salsa on the enchiladas and taco to give it flavor. Only authentic Mexican in this place is the music and maybe the servers. I'm not from Sheboygan, just driving thru, but I hope there's better Mexican places around cause if not, sheboygians, if that's how u pronounce it, are missing out on some really great food and culture.

I love Mexican food! I ordered the Simon burrito as a take out order. The burrito was huge and very greasy. It was ok but not at all what I would have expected for Mexican. There are huge chunks of chicken in the burrito.

A solid choice for Mexican food in Sheboygan. For a sit-down restaurant it's probably the fastest we've ever been to (almost suspiciously fast?). Guac comes with piles of chips which are paper thin and very crispy. We usually get one of the combo platters which are very reasonably priced and the fajitas. The fajitas were awesome but I ordered the combo meat fajitas and it came with really strange, awkwardly large slabs of artificial crab meat. I end up just picking it out. Atmosphere is friendly and inviting. Service was also good.

A cute, family friendly place! I had the chicken fajitas which were amazing. My husband had the #2 combo and practically finished it. My parents had chimichangas and enchiladas which they liked but 2 each was way more than enough. We would definitely come back.

I'll start at the beginning of our visit. Bar empty, waited 5-10 min. For bartender to show. Got chips and salsa with our drinks though. Pre-made Marguretas? Went to table, got water, menus and chips and salsa and asked if we wanted other drinks from bar. Two minutes server took order, 5 min. Food on table. Huge plate, large portion of beans and rice. Entree was OK but had so much cheese on it, main part under (meat) was minimal. Much more cheaper filling sides than meat. No way a normal person can eat it all and not explode. No hot sauce on table, really? "Hot" salsa not even close to hot. Food mediocre at best. Service very fast. They seem more interested in high table turnover than serving a really good quality, well proportioned meal.

We had the flautas with beef and steak mexicana. Both were outstanding. The food tastes very fresh and the guacamole is terrific. Portion sizes were generous. Each of us took home a box for our lunch tomorrow. The rice was kind of flavorless, but I liked the refried beans, which weren't so cooked down that they were pureed. Real beans lurked among the puree. My horchata was good, but on the sweet side. Our waitress was outstanding. We'll be coming back again.

Out of everywhere else in town - this is where I get chile rellenos. Guadalajar's are weird, but they have other meals I would get only there. El Camino's dishes are good. Decent enchiladas. Husband loves the combination fajitas, loves them. Just wishes they wouldn't put grilled carrots with it. This is first restaurant I have seen that does that. Also, one time with our to go order, they gave us a green chile sauce that was hot but was close to a New Mexican green chile that NM and CO restaurants use to smother things with - WHICH I GOT EXCITED FOR. I miss that green chile. But the staff doesn't seem to know what I am asking for when I tried to get it again. I like this place, prices are right, quality isn't phenomenal but good.

El Camino is one of the best restaurants in Sheboygan and by far the best Mexican restaurant. It's not super gourmet, but it is authentic, and the prices are really reasonable. Great margaritas! Great food! I've been here a few times and ordered different things, and I've never been disappointed! I especially love the chicken sopes! They're amazing!

Best Mexican food in Sheboygan. If you like traditional Mexican tacos, get the Al Pastor with onion and cilantro on then. Such good seasoning on the meat.

This little cantina offers great food, fast. The staff are very friendly and courteous. The lunch menu is affordable and the portion just right.

You must order their fajitas! The BEST in Wisconsin! This is our all-time favorite Mexican restaurant! The have the best authentic Mexican food and with such fast and friendly service, too. When we return from trips to Mexico, whether it be in the Cancun area, the Playacar region, or in the Cabo area, we always make our El Camino our 1st restaurant stop when we arrive home. Hands down the food is always better, and the margaritas, the BEST, too! We LOVE -- El Camino!

The tostadas was better than I expected. Margarita was good and they were very accommodating in making a portion of it virgin for my daughter. Husband had one of their dinner plates but wasn't impressed. Service was definitely lacking considering it wasn't busy at all, however I will return to try other things on their menu.

If this is the best Mexican place in Sheboygen I would hate to go to the others. The salsa bowl ran out halfway through the basket of chips and I was rationing the inadequate portion of salsa from chip #1. The "hot" salsa was slightly spicy at best. Rice and beans served at room temperature. The chicken I had was decent but the tortillas tasted dead and stale. I'm not even sure why I'm giving this place two stars. My waiter was invisible until I was done, too late to ask for salsa, pay at the register. Out the door it was +$17, I had a beer and a dinner that was priced at $10.50 on the menu. Talk about sticker shock. I am just knocked out by the other reviews of this place. Way off.

Best Mexican Food! What can I say? El Camino is hands down one of the best Mexican restaurants I have ever eaten at. The chips and salsa are my favorite. Ladies night on Thursdays is a great night to grab an inexpensive margarita or two! Chicken quesadilla and Steak Tacos are delicious. Can't wait to see what they have in store for us once the restaurant expansion is complete. I will definitely continue dining here!

Just another Mexican restaurant. They should try and sex up the menu and depart from the standard offerings - but then the clientele might be too pedestrian for that.

There are not a lot of Mexican restaurants to choose from in the Sheboygan area, but no matter, El Camino is great! Our kids love it too. We especially love their fish tacos, which are not on the menu but seem to be offered as a "special" every time we're in there. Their combination plates are great, too. Gets quite crowded on weekend nights, so go early if you're taking the whole family.

Well, I finally made it to El Camino. I know, I should have gotten there sooner. But let me tell you, it was worth the wait! The guacamole was fresh and chunky. Not a fan of their salsa, though. I ordered a Sangria. Not bad. Good price but could have used more fruit in it. The food itself was plentiful and good for the price. The chimichangas I had were full of big chunks of chicken. My husband ordered the taco trio and they were able to make one of them with shrimp, which was not on the menu. It should have been! The shrimp taco was awesome! He told the waitress to pass the word to the powers that be that it should be in the menu. Overall, a good dining experience. I plan to head back there soon!

Everything was great. Service was prompt and courteous and portions were good size. They have a lot of space and the noise level was energetic - not too loud and not quiet. Great for kids and groups - it looks like they also have a great rooftop patio for the summertime!

Really good Mexican food! My wife and I were visiting Kohler from Chicago and after a full day at the spa just wanted some good, easy and quick food that we could enjoy. The guacamole was not too hot, but the fajita and tamale dinners were just as good as anything we could get in Chicago. Overall, if you are in the area and feel like Mexican this is a good spot for you.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
