Just moved from Singapore and amazed by this place. Brilliant space. Exceptional food. And wicked good people. Jerry the manager A1. Owner from Liberia is equally spectacular. This place is a gem! You will not be disappointed.

Expected nice dinner 7pm. We were group of 11. Most tables empty, so expected good service. WRONG. took half hour to get drink order. We had previewed internet menu, but found many items, notably prine rib were not on actual menu. To make worse, about 1/3 of the menu was "sold out, we have a large party upstairs". Hint: that's an excuse not a reason. So we ordered from what was left. Appetizers were good, but main course took over an hour to be served. Several dishes came out lukewarm at best. If was obvious that my dish, eggplant parm had been sitting for a long time, was almost cold and sauce starting to dry out. Others at table same problem. The food may have been good if served promptly, but we will never know. Total time in restaurant over 2 1/2 hours, lost from my life forever. Another hint: you lost 11 potential repeat customers.

This is a great fancy dinner option in Racine. I liked all the food, from appetizers to main course. We got plantains and jerk chicken wings for starter, and I ordered the tenderloin filet with mashed potatoes. The vegetable was brussel sprouts to my delight, but not to my dining companions. One sent their plate back since they didn't want sprouts, so that would be my advice is to ask what the vegetable is since the server didn't specify beforehand. The manager walked around asking us how our meal was, etc... Will come again for fancy dinner again.

First impressions. Nice, unadorned decor. Light Caribbean music, lively but unobtrusive. Spectacular pumpkin soup. Excellent Duck. Red Snapper - creative presentation, plus tasty and served HOT, which often is a problem for restaurants. Very attractive wine at extremely inviting per bottle pricing. Friendly, knowledgable server. French pressed Columbian or Guatemalan coffee! Please hang in there.

Tried this place because of a Groupon I had for 2 wine flights and a shared appetizer and dessert. The ambiance in this place is very warm and inviting. We had seats right by the fireplace on a cold evening and were warmed in no time. The restaurant is rather small in the lower area, so it's a little awkward when trying to get to the back to use the restrooms but other than that it was very cozy. However, when I say "cozy" we didn't have anyone sitting immediately next to us on either side until the very end of our meal...it is rather close quarters under those circumstances. Our wine flights were delicious...a nice variety of sweet and dry, red and white. As for the food, we shared the pesto shrimp cassava for an appetizer, which was done very well and was tasty. I had the fish special for the evening, which was a pecan crusted trout. You had your choice of soup or salad, and we both had the soup which was cream of mushroom. It was fantastic! My mom ordered one of their house specials which was Spinach and Palm Oil (or something close to that). It comes with a variety of seafood and steak and is served over rice. It was an underwhelming dish at $25 unfortunately. The crab is served in the shell and there is not much flavor to the rest of the dish. My pecan crusted trout was a little fishy but otherwise good and decent sized. It came with a couple small red potatoes and carrots. We had a chocolate spice cake to share for dessert and that was a great way to end our meal. While I won't be a regular of this place, I may come back again and try some other things, as there were good aspects of the meal and our server was wonderful!

Everything was delicious! Pay no attention to the negative reviews that you've read elsewhere; I truly have no idea what they're taking about. Just go. Eat. You won't be disappointed. Everything was great, but the jerk duck breast was the best I've ever had.

It's a great place to eat. Warm yet sophisticated atmosphere. Well-stocked bar, good menu options for meat eaters and vegetarians. I got the black bean burger with sweet potato fries, excellent!

Just meh. Nothing special. Most of the appetizers weren't available. Consistency of the chicken on my sandwich was pretty much mush. Had to continuously ask the server for things, drinks, silverware, sugar, etc. Atmosphere was nice, but I doubt we'll be back.

First time visiting Vero. Welcomed as we walked in. Wine list not all that extensive but was pleased with my selection of a California Red. Cocktail menu was worthy. Our srever was very attentive, and was helpful in our choices. The pumpkin soup was high on heat with spice. The salad was a party in my mouth. The Sea Bass he recommended did not disappoint. It was delicious. My husband had the dish they call Spinach with Palm oil. It was very flavorful, but the crab tips still in their shells made this dish somewhat of a circus act. Trying to get the crab out of the oily shell with a small fork, well you get the idea. But all in all this menu is full of flavor and spice and I can't wait to go back and try something new.

I went again, yesterday - looking forward to their fried green tomato BLT. While it was not bad, it was not as good as prior visit. During the prior visit - I could taste the bacon - it had an excellent flavor and taste. Yesterday, the bacon was.. "meh"! They pile on a whole lot of fries - I mean - just too much and the fries tasted bad. Serving a large portion of untasty fries was not such a great idea. Their restaurant, I assume, is not for "bulk consumers" but for discriminating palates. Having disliked their BLT, I tied their jamaican jerk chicken wrap - which again, was not bad but not that wonderful as it was, in my prior visit. This happens to mmost restaurants. They start out amazing but the quality goes down - because they start accepting less than perfection in buying ingredients or preparing food... mostly because they don't have enough patrons and it starts a downward spiral. or its quite possible that we as consumers, get disinterested with repetition - new tastes being more exciting. In my defense, It was 2 months since my prior visit. with the same friend. Were were both very pleased with the food but after yesterday, he and I decided that it would be our last visit to Vero. Only two other tables were occupied during lunch. No patrons = no money for quality. I don't see this restaurant staying open for too long. Nice restaurant but wrong location. Already, I miss the original wonderful Vero. RIP (soon?) lol. Btw, the service was excellent, while the lunch was not. Oh yes.. their asparagus soup also was nice. Prices are very reasonable - actually quite low.. I blame the racine crowd for not recognizing an amazing gem in their midst.. and now, the gem is declining.

Great experience at Vero! The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is based on their hours. It's not your typical schedule and therefore hard to gauge when they are open. Only W-Su for dinner and W-Su for lunch so tough if you love downtown and are looking for a bite to eat. It's a great addition to the area, very pricy but the food is worth it. I had the jerk duck and my brother had the snapper which were both delish and the flavor poured from every bite! The average price per meal is about $20 and glasses of wine are $6-8. Great service and nice atmosphere. I will be back for sure!

My husband and I are new to Racine. We tried this restaurant last night during Fist Fridays. The food is really quite yummy here. We shared the jerk wings appetizer and then my husband had the elk and I had the duck. The food was great! The service and ambiance however was not so great. The servers/waiters were all over the place, very nice but slow to greet, slow to serve, we waited for ages for our bill. The kitchen or a waiter or someone dropped like a whole rack of glasses I think down a few stairs and then they were so loud throughout our meal. It was all a bit unsettling. The hostess then dropped forks while doing something with a table. I love a nice calm predictable environment with great food for dinner. The food was really good and reasonably priced. Our whole bill with one glass of wine each was about $75. The ambiance not so great. I'm not so sure I would rush to go back if I had a better option.

Great food. Ok service. Ok atmosphere. For lunch, the jerk chicken wraps are delicious. The dinner options are all good, seafood, steak, some traditional African dishes, too. Eat here regularly.

Excellent place! My girlfriend and I went to Vero this weekend and had a wonderful experience. The menu is small but high quality. The decor is comfortable, yet upscale and the service is top notch. Our waiter, Eric, was extremely helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable despite it being his third day on the job. When I asked him some difficult questions about the menu (I have dietary restrictions) he amiably sought out the answers from the chef. In fact, he brought the chef, Matt, to our table and he was able to answer all of my questions. We ended up ordering the fried plantains for an appetizer. They were dark and sweet with a nice little rum dipping sauce. I would recommend strongly recommend them. For dinner we ordered the Jerk Duck and the Turkish Lamb. Both were excellent. The lamb was juicy and tender with a nice dusting of spices, it was accompanied by grilled zucchini and squash cut the long way. The large crosshatch grill marks nicely caramelized the vegetables at the grill marks and made for a very good accompaniment. The dish also contained couscous which was very good but a little spicy for my tastes (but I'm sensitive to some of these things) I would think that most people would really like it. For dessert we had the mango cheesecake. This is a fluffy, rather than dense, cheesecake with mango pieces and a ginger snap crust. The bite of the gingersnap crust offers a nice counterpoint to the smooth creamy mango making for an excellent flavor. Again, highly recommended. While not the cheapest place in town, Vero is well worth it. The quality of the ingredients and the care in preparation really shine through to make for an excellent meal. Add that to the stellar staff and you have one heck of a good thing.

A terrific addition to the downtown Racine restaurant scene! The ambiance is great - sophisticated yet comfortable with a handsome bar and stunning wall fireplace. The menu is eclectic with a subtle African/Caribbean touch to most dishes and specialty drinks. We really enjoyed the oxtail with polenta and curried chicken, both of which were beautifully presented and served by a gracious waiter. Very very nice evening.
