Salutes had a great friendly environment. I had the gnocchi alla carbonara which was great. The proportion sizes are large which make it nice for taking home leftovers. Our bartender Katie was alert and friendly, which makes salutes a great environment for conversation and family.

Too expensive, and the food was low quality. Customer service sucks and the owner gave no regards to my complaints.

Not as good as it once was. Prices are still high, relative to the area, but the quality has most definitely slipped quite a bit. The minestrone soup was made with a base of what can only be described as a Campbell's vegetable soup base with a few fresh vegetables thrown in. The side salad has gone from mixed greens to all iceberg. The Shrimp in the Shrimp Diablo was tough, over boiled before being added to the pasta I'd wager, the sauce is all heat with little flavor coming through. My dining partner's Parmesan Encrusted Salmon was also a bit disappointing. With an overly generous, quite salty, crust, the delicate salmon flavor was overpowered. Sadly, one of the brightest dining spots in Racine has dimmed considerably

We had a group dinner here the night before the IronMan 70.3 race. I had one of the specials- a stuffed chicken. It was too spicy for my taste but it was way too dry. If that's what you have to offer as a house special, I'm not going to return to see what you have regularly.

Husband, daughter & I went in last month for diinner and it was AMAZING! I had Anna's Ravioli. The pasta was so tender it almost melted in your mouth. My husband had the lasagna which he enjoyed very much & our daughter asked for & received plain buttered noodles. We started our meal with some mozzerella sticks & garlic bread. Both fresh & hot. Our waitress was very attentive, always checking to see if we needed anything. Then Ana stopped by with a plate of garlic knots "Here, you must try!!" And she sat the whole plate down on our table! I felt like I was in my grandma's kitchen - I was waiting for her to say Mangia-Mangia! After we had gorged ourselves on this divine meal, our waitress & Ana brought us all a dish of Spumoni. My daughter & husband had never tasted this before. I had - but it had been YEARS! It was just as I remembered, chocolate, cherry & pistachio heaven! MMMM! Did I mention this too was complimentary? Next came the COMPLIMENTARY shots of Sambuca for myself & my husband! It was truly a magnificent meal & they know how to treat their guests like family! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you try Salute's!!

The most welcoming Italian restaurant I've ever been too. The owner is the sweetest little Italian lady you could ever meet. If u come, try her one of a kind salute special pizza. Amazingly delicious. Grilled chicken rigatoni is another outstanding dish I've had. I challenge you to find one better!!

I was not impressed. The whole meal I felt rushed. The entrees arrived before we finished our salads, and the waitress came over and asked if we needed boxes while we were still eating. I told her eventually, but she didn't get the hint. She brought two sandwich sized clam shell containers for us. The food was ok. When I was done eating I had between 3 and 4 cups of food in my bowl. The waitress came over and began to pile the food in the box. I said, you think you will fit all that in there? She managed to pile it all in and proceeded to put it in a bag. Pet peeve: She left half a dozen mushrooms in the bowl. Sure enough the contents spilled over into the bag. It's not like they were out of the large containers. I saw plenty of people walking out with them. But, I didn't want to be one of those customers. After a meal out you should feel full and relaxed. I felt queasy and annoyed. Felt like a sucker for leaving the usual 20% tip. My advice: If you get the brown haired waitress with the tattoo near her left shoulder insist on good service.

Had dinner here during the summer with small group from the marina. I know Italian food - This is garbage. After about an hour and a half waiting, (it was busy - OK, fine), my dinner arrives. Shrimp and asparagus Alfredo ? Shrimp is not cleaned properly, (lots of mud veins all over),it is overcooked by 5 minutes, and I have a bunch of asparagus stalks. Not one tip. . so that means your out of that ingredient and it should be 86'd or the kitchen is clueless. my guess is the latter. My Wife played it "safe" by ordering gnocchi and it was way under-cooked. Hard to do - unless it is frozen, and this was I am sure. Wash it down with the warmest martini I have ever been served and we leave with a new appreciation for Chicago restaurants. It would take a great deal of improvement to be as good as let's say an Olive Garden. It is hard to fathom that there is a wait on the weekends to be seated. This place would be out of business in 6 months if not for three reasons. Location - location - location.

This place is delicious!! I have been here many times and the food is excellent. The service is great and the owners are the nicest people you will ever meet! I highly recommend this place to everyone.

Best Italian by far. Everything tastes like it was made that day. The pastas and sauces are sooo good. My absolute favorites are their tomato basil soup and any of their raviolis!! Fairly priced ad well for the servings and home-made taste.

On a recent trip to Racine I was referred by the staff at the hotel I was staying at to try Salute. I could not have been more pleased with the recommendation. It was local and it felt like it as soon as I hit the door. There was a small group of people gathered around the bar and they all seemed to be having a good time. I sat at a table nearby and was greeted by my server and ordered a drink and began to look over a very extensive menu. After asking the server for some direction I decided on the Gnocchi with ham and peas in a cream sauce. Dinner came with bread and a salad. When my entree made it to the table it was a HUGE bowl of pasta, I thought it was the 'family style' portion. I wish I had been forwarned, I would have passed on the bread and salad. The pasta was fantastice, the service was great and my dining experience at Salute could not have been better. I would definitely eat at Salute again.

As a recent transplant from Chicago, I was lucky enough to be brought to Salute by my boss during my first few days in Racine. From day one, I was treated like part of the family by John, Ida, Anna, and Gemma. I have been accustomed to a certain type of Italian food, being both from Chicago and also being blessed to have a Calabrian grandmother. The cuisine and dining experience at Satute will not disappoint. I would highly recommend the freshly made tortellini, gnocchi, or Anna's Lasagna for anyone looking for an authentic Italian dish. Salute will feed both your stomach and soul!

Decor was nice, staff was polite but my chicken alfredo tasted like it went right from the freezer to the microwave to the table. Very disappointing.

Big fan of this place. Friendly staff, great specials, loud friendly atmosphere. Plan on waiting a little while for food, so have a good time, order some drinks and enjoy. This is the place to go if you want to be a part of the community. Count on large parties, seeing the mayor and his family, and having a shot with the owner at the bar. Salute!

Yeah...I don't even... Went here for a business lunch and it was in a great location, but the decor was just strange. I mean, do you get to just post a bunch of crazy pictures of the Sopranos and the Rat Pack on the wall and call it Italian? Apparently so. The food was disappointing but I didn't expect much so I guess in some bizzaro-world it met my expectations? I'm not sure how that works. The server we had was strange. She told us that she didn't know what kind of soup they had, but that she would be able to find out (like somehow that wasn't important information to have beforehand with which to order soup). She also told us that it took a long time for the food to come out because she fell in the kitchen and smacked her head. Say whaaaat? I would never eat here again, but it made for some interesting table conversation. Like "How many times do you think she's smacked her head before?" and "Doesn't it seem like Frank Sinatra's eyes on the wall are following you?"

$35 for dinner for two with one glass of wine. Everything tasted pre-packaged to us. Salads came straight out of a bag. It's not that the food is terrible but I was expecting better.

No flavor in anything. Inattentive wait staff, and when i ordered the salmon, they brought it out on a plate with nothing else. No rice, pasta, veggies, potato, or anything. It's just not what it used to be. Sorry.

It might have been because this was the night before a triathlon, but the place is just so-so. First, it was JAMMED, but again, likely the carbo-load crowd. Service was quite spotty and not so professional. If you get one thing from this review, DO NOT ORDER THE CALAMARI APPETIZER. I literally thought they brought us onion rings with ketchup. Bad, bad, bad. But when it came to the main course, the food was good if not very plentiful. HUGE portions, above average quality. Had the pasta bolognese and would recommend that if you eat at Salute. Olive Garden might actually be a better bet.

A great family atmosphere and a wonderful accidental find. We were walking down the street on the first night of our vacation, headed for a different restaurant, but decided to try Salute instead. The hostess was helpful with our kids and even brought them some extra coloring supplies. I had the house ravioli, my wife had Anne's wild mushroom ravioli, and both were great. The kid's pizza was pretty good, too. (It wasn't like Imo's back home in St. Louis, but I can't fault them for that). If you like Italian food with that Godfather atmosphere, you can't go wrong with Salute!

We came here on a busy Saturday night based on the recommendation from our hotel and it was a nice dinner. They were packed but were very welcoming and accommodating to us. The entire restaurant was packed but they managed to seat us within 15 min of us arriving without reservations. The waitress was slammed but she kept on our table and took good care of our needs. The food was a little above average but came out hot and came out as quickly as we could expect for the crowd. It was not a memorable meal but it was good and the right price for the quality, area and expectations.

We loved the food, and they bent over backwards for us. We were there 45 min before opening, because of a sporting event, and they were extremely nice in being able to provide a space for our family. The food was phenomenal, and I loved the red sauce. I found the prices completely reasonable, for an Italian restaurant ($13-$20) for a meal. If you want cheaper than that, go to Sbarro's or something. We would definitely go back, and wish we would have gone there again before we left.

Never had a disappointing meal here. Gets pretty noisy when busy, but maybe that's also a sign of a happy Italian restaurant! Be sure to check out the specials!!

The food here is pretty much on par with anything else in town. The sauce isn't anything special but my family always picks this place for special occasions because of the Anna's ravioli. I am hoping this trend will now that the last two times we were there the ravioli was bad and both my dad and brother in law got sick from it. The service here is always bad too the last waitress we had took 45 minutes to bring us out the bill by and by the time she got there half our party had left and gone home. My dad was frustrated because then it was the wrong bill. Overall there are better places to get Italian food and way better service.

This is one of those restaurants that serves large portions of mediocre food. Most of the people in our party were satisfied, but I had Anna's ravioli and did not care for it. The white sauce was flavorless, it seemed to be milk with a thickening agent. The pasta was undercooked and doughy and the mushroom filling was 95% spinach. The tomato bisque was very bland. My advice to the chef, buy some spices.

The old Salute's was 5-star all the way. Since they knocked down the wall and moved next door too... Not so much. Staff gets overwhelmed. Place gets busy. Food comes out tepid. It's ok, but it's not the Salute's that captured my heart. That place... Hole in the wall heaven. Now... run o' the mill. Still have a half decent pizza, but Well's Bros or Mike n Angelo's is better. I'd go here. I'd eat here. I'd not hate it, but it would be my 3rd or 4th choice. The Salute's of 1992.... now that was another story. Get in your Delorian and go to that Salute's. This one... good luck parking downtown and hope your food gets to ya hot.

Went here with a friend tonight. He had lasagna(13.50). Was good. I had a 16" chicken Alfredo pizza with onions and ham(26.00). Dough was undercooked. Bland favors wasn't impressed at all.

I can't count the number I've times I've visted Salute's but I am always pleased when I do! I have tried a variety of the dishes on the menu....lasagna, pizza, ravioli, gnocchi....I have never been disappointed. They have a decent wine selection and even a small matini list. Their tomato basil soup is outstanding! I love that they typically have at least 2 specials every night. They are very flexible with substituting or adding ingredients to any of their dishes and the service is almost always fantastic! My top favorites include Anna's Ravioli, the Marano pizza on the virgin crust and the grilled chicken rigatoni!! Top off your meal with a complimentary Sambuca and you will be starting your night off right!

Good food good service. Pasta done perfectly and the shrimp were cooked without being over sine Chianti was nice. Will definitely come back next time I am in the area

My favorite traditional Italian Restaurant. Much of the pasta is hand rolled from the sisters. Anna makes the best noodles. I have had about everything on the menu and I have never been disappointed. My wife loves the Anna's ravioli.

  • Bill B.

I wanted to like this restaurant. I went because a friend said it was great pizza and traditional Italian food. The pizza could have been great, but it came out cold. Not luke warm. Cold on the outside ring and slightly warm inside. I ordered the thin crust with sausage, onion, tomatoes, mushrooms. Also ordered a glass of Chianti that came sweeter than most I have had, but probably would have worked well with a tart pasta dish. When we started eating the pizza I mentioned that it was cold and called the waitress over and told her. She acted kinda sorry and said she would talk to the kitchen. That was it. No visit by the manager or owner, no explanation of any sort or offer to reheat or remake the pizza. I found that odd. Most pies I eat come out steaming where you have to blow on it, or gingerly eat it so it does not scald your mouth. This pie was almost room temperature---cold for a pizza. The check came, paid and then left. Not a word about the pizza. The pizza was not bad. It was one of the better tasting pizzas I have had, but I don't really know because it was not the right temp. To make it even worse, the place was not even that busy. Only about 20% of the dining room was filled. I have a theory. The less busy a restaurant is on any given night the chances are greater you will have bad service or a cold meal. If places are hopping there is no time to let the food get cold or good service not to be rendered. The rest of the menu was quite extensive with pasta, chicken, fish, veal and other dishes you would expect from a family run Calibres style Italian Restaurant. Unfortunately, nobody came over and tipped their glass with a "salute!" They just left a cold pizza.

I don't know where these people come from saying they're expensive???? Pricing is very reasonable!!! Maybe too cheap??? Food is excellent, and the owners are wonderful, always make you feel welcomed.

they have one of the best tiramisu I've ever had. intense coffee taste. I've been here twice. the first time I had their specialty ravioli. it was slathered with thick white sauce. not very appetizing looking. the sauce was coagulating. the second time I had veal marsala. but now that I know how much sauce they put, I asked them to put the pasta on its own plate. sometimes sauces are just too salty for me so I'd rather control the amount of sauces. so this was good. their espresso is great. good crema. plenty of other things to try.

  • Courtney H.

Great family run, always fresh and the pasta is to die for. I normally have the white parmesan sauce. They will always adjust any order to your liking, get the antipasto to start the dressing that comes with it makes it incredible. They also have great wines and many martinis! Make sure to ask for a shot with "uncle John" !

I lived in Italy for 8 years but although that fact makes me a little judgmental of anyplace that calls itself an "Italian Restaurant", I try to be fair. As a result, I am going to say this, and this only about my experience at "Salute" and let the readers of this review be the judge: The special "Pasta of the Day" I ordered was advertised as having roasted peppers and olives...it came with black olives out of a can instead of Kalamata olives or similar. Sorry, but that's not even Italian cuisine by Olive garden standards. To say any more or less about the food at Salute would just be trite.

    (2)
  • Jared L.

Have been here numerous times on busy days and slow days. Went here to celebrate a birthday and on dates. The wait staff was wonderful. Service was great and always makes you feel welcome. My only wish for this restaurant, that it seems to have lost, is to have fresh herbs. Instead the food is really heavy. Please salutes come back. Give less on your portions and give more on your flavor. I'll be seeing you!!! And one last thing...those who say Olive Garden may be better are completely wrong.

One of my Favorite Italian Restaurant's of all Time, have yet to have a bad dish at this restaurant, and the owners are the nicest people you will ever meet, if you like traditional southern style Italian foods this is the place for you and the best pizza in the world

This restaurant is what you would call a "Diamond in the Rough." The food is exceptional with huge portions and the atmosphere is like old World Italian culture. The owners make you feel like part of a family...Humble.... as they walk around to greet customers and ask how everything is. I give this place an A+. We will definitely be making return visits. Sincerely, T. A. & L.K.

I've eaten here a few times, once when it was really busy on a weekend and the other times when it's been slow. The food is pretty good, but the service is consistently horrible. I understand being a little slow when it's busy, but it got seriously ridiculous. What was worse, though, is how when I've eaten there on slow nights (seriously, like 3 other groups in the restaurant), I always feel like the waitress is trying to push us out the door. Whether it's an "attitude" when taking orders or shoving the check at us soon after our food arrives, it's not pleasant. I doubt I'll be back.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
