Historic Cream City brick building, huge windows filled with morning sun, a view of boats floating down a river--the perfect brunch setting? Full of anticipation, you approach the door, undeterred by the grimy couch and strewn clothes in the adjoining storefront. What's the special this morning? Pomegranate...something? It's all you can make out of the smudged description on the chalkboard. The hostess, in pajamas, tells you they've run out. But they will make you eggs of almost any variety: huevos rancheros, benedicts, and omelets are all great when they finally arrive, almost good enough to compensate for the weird paintings, scribbled signs, and Kiwanis gumball machines you've been staring at for the past thirty minutes. Now, if you only you could pay your bill and leave...

Service was okay, food was well presented, but very bland. Only thing I enjoyed was the chicken noodles soup (that got the 3rd star). Mac and cheese looked promising but had no flavor Wife commented later than Kraft Velveeta shells is better Roast beef sandwich needed more horseradish and meat. BLT was average at best. Not sure why the raves about the place, unless there really is no where to eat in Racine.

Food is good, but service is always spotty. When going for lunch make sure you leave yourself plenty of time because it's always packed and service is slow. That being said, the food is great! Love the salads and sandwiches. I also recently went for dinner and got one of their specials for the day: mahi mahi tacos with kiwi salsa. Very flavorful! If you're looking for higher quality food in Racine there aren't a whole lot of choices, and I would include Out of the Pan as one of the best.

Went for Mother's Day Brunch. The establishment is modest in size. It was somewhat busy and only a couple of tables were available, but not cleared. Staff never greeted us, but we made friends with others who were waiting. The patrons were all very friendly and we all worked the best way for us all to have a place to sit for breakfast. Essentially, being our own host/greeter. We thought wow this is going to be great based on the patron vibe - folks welcoming others folks to their table so that everyone could sit. In hindsight. I wish that would not happened so we could have left before our dining experience. Once seated it was about 10 minutes before what appeared to be the owner came over and handed us menus. Another 12-15 minutes before a server came to us. We ordered three meals a omelet, Eggs Benedict, and children's pancakes. It took an hour before the food came after placing our order. At first, we made jokes about the service, but it was so bad that it stopped being funny. We had to ask the server multiple times to please bring us a glass of water. She would keep saying "oh yeah, I forgot." From what we could tell she was waiting on about four tables and each got equally terrible service. The food once it arrived was okay - not bad, not great. Definitely not worth more than 90 minutes from the time we arrived at the restaurant. During the entire ordeal which lasted almost two hours from entry to exit, they never even pretending to care that their guests were having a bad experience. Lots of folks came in a great mood and left annoyed. Everyone can have a bad day or get overwhelmed and a little bit of decency goes a long way. Based on the non-existent customer service, we won't be back.

Huge score for Racine. The menu has lots of variety and everything tastes fresh. It's in our regular rotation.

I have tried a few times to eat here and have always been met with a rude staff. I will not try to return after 3 attempts. There are many other great places in the down town Racine area to eat at.

Great food, everything is very fresh & the service is fantastic. I've never had a bad meal there. The signature salad is AMAZING!

A great surprise! My family went for breakfast and truly enjoyed the experience - we will go back when we come to visit. I had the blueberry jalapeño B&G, different but solid. Wife had breakfast pizza - also unique, and still right in our wheel house. Our 5 year old son had pancakes that were presented in a Micky mouse face complete with grapes for eyes and bacon for a smile; kid was ecstatic. The food was good, better than what I have come to expect in Racine anywhere, we loved the atmosphere and the staff was outstanding - friendly and attentive. We'll be back!

Food was very good and the service was great as well. I went there twice and every time I was quite satisfied with the food choices. There are some opportunities for improvement though (that's why 4 stars) The quality of coffee leaves much to be desired. Don't bother ordering it because it tastes like brown hot water. No espresso machine, hence no capuccino, latte or any other fancy coffee options. Please buy espresso machine, Out of the Pan management and you'll be all set!

Yet another post where I wish I could give half stars. Rating is on a Racine scale. I'd probably only have given it 3 stars in Milwaukee or Chicago. I had the blueberry jalapeño biscuits and gravy while my husband had the breakfast sandwich. The biscuits were really good. Would have loved to try them with jam or butter. I was disappointed with the gravy, considering earlier in the week I had tried some banging mushroom gravy at the Noble in Milwaukee. Being paired with such interesting biscuits I had hoped for a flavorful gravy. More heat or pepper would have been appreciated. My husband's breakfast sandwich was really good. I loved the Cajun flavors and the fresh spinach. The breakfast potatoes were also top notch. A lot of the other dishes people were eating looked really good too. I will definitely return and try something a little more basic. I'm also going to give lunch and dinner a try. Racine doesn't have a ton of interesting places to eat, but Out of the Pan gives me hope.

Good 80s music=good lunch. Breakfast pizza was yummy. Doesn't look like much from outside but do yourself a favor and go in:)

I wanted to like it so much more than I did. It was ok. I really enjoyed the appetizer. I got the thai lettuce wrap. However, when I got my entree, I was disappointed. Everything was salty. The soup of the day was spinach zucchini which tasted very processed. For the prices and reputation of this place, I was hoping the food would be fresher and more original. My mom and grandma both got quesadillas (duck and thai) and both were ok. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to have a place that isn't dishing out only fried food in Racine, but I just wanted something fresher and unique. On a high note, our waitress was very pleasant and sweet. It's a solid three star place.

Been here a few times and I always enjoy it. Warm and inviting atmosphere, the waitstaff are charming and hospitable. Great food for such a low price. Nice place to grab a bite especially when you have guests from out of town. Or if you just want to go local and avoid the chain restaurants.

Delicious food. The menu is super-creative but accessible and delicious. Good service, decent atmosphere.

Cute little hole in the wall. Interesting menu. I had the salmon with cucumber on toasted squares and it was very good. Didn't have to wait at all for a table and service was good. If you like to try new things but also have a picky eater in your group this is a good place to try.

We went here for breakfast and it was very busy. I had the bananas foster french toast and it was heaven!! Service was slow, but I will definitely be back for the food.

I have tried this place numerous times for lunch and dinner, but my review now is strictly on the brunch menu on Sundays. It is FANTASTIC! The menu has a little bit of everything, without being overwhelming. Some of the menu items even have a little twist on them...for example I had the blueberry and jalapeno biscuits and gravy...sounds like an odd combination but it was REALLY good. The gravy was not your typical thick sausage gravy but it was still very tasty. They have a couple different types of eggs benedict, omelets, breakfast burrito, pancakes....just about anything you could want. They also have great brunch drink options, mimosas, beermosas, bloody Marys which can be made with their house-infused serrano vodka....didn't try that this time around, but definitely will next time. You get your choice of beer in your beermosa...only thing I would change is serving the beermosa in a pint glass instead of a wine glass....but that's minimal. Get there early or after noon or plan for it to be busy. Good service, great food! I'll be back soon!

This a great lunch spot! My boyfriend and I love to find little cafes to go to and Out of the Pan is one of our favorites! The building it is located in has a cute little old warehouse. With the exposed brick and ductwork it is truly is a gem. And their food, OH MY GOD! The menu changes with the seasons. During lent they had a wide assortment of seafood dishes. I had the Cajun seasoned tilapia tacos. They were great! Each taco came with one whole filet! The second time we went I had on of their sandwich specials and their house salad and of course it was great! I will definitely be going back.

Went here for lunch, my sister recommended this place since my mom and I are from California. Very cute building! I got the roast beef sandwich it tasted amazing! I love that my iced tea was refilled without asking. And the people there were very sweet! Great place to stop by for a yummy lunch!

We visited Out of The Pan on one of the busiest dining days - Mother's Day. Our wait for a table was quite reasonable, even though the dining room was full. We were seated and greeted by a very less than enthusiastic server. Our drink order came fairly quickly. The lack of helpfulness and welcome continued throughout our ordering and while waiting for our food. The rest of the diners, we noticed, were looking to the kitchen, at their watches, up to the ceiling - clearly annoyed by their wait times. Our order was not complicated, but it took the kitchen over an hour to serve us. Just not acceptable. Uninterested servers continued to unimpress. Food was OK, date I say, for Racine. We've had better, with far far better service.

my brother and I brother I both went here and had a wonderful experience sitting at the bar. The food could be a bit spicier for my taste, but you know, I understand they cook for the masses. I had tilapia Po'boy and cup of tortilla soup. I did not get a lot of attitude from servers who were attentive as described in other posts. I guess if you're having a better day it may reflect both to your experience as well as your server. i would take a guest here, even a date? its a bit tough to spot near the bridge on state, but worth the visit.

It was a great experience. First the appetizer was amazing, a cranberry goat cheese bruschetta with figs and a raspberry sriracha reduction. For dinner, I ordered the mac and cheese while my girlfriend ordered the cajun tilapia fish tacos. The tacos came with a spicy garlic sour cream and home made corn and tomato salsa. According to Abby, "It was the perfect amount of spice, generous portions, and correct ratio of fish to tortilla to topping. They were delicious." The mac n cheese was just unreal. It came with a nice side salad of field greens, walnuts, dried cranberries, blue cheese, and a brown sugar balsamic reduction. The mac n cheese was the perfect blend of four cheeses in a heavy cream sauce with a nice browned slightly crunchy top. It was the best mac n cheese I've ever had, it is best described as "cheesy gooey food crack" Plus everything came out to be about $30, so it was very reasonable. (We did not order any drinks, only water)

Out of the Pan began on Sixth Street in the location now occupied by Olde Madrid. It was primarily a lunch location with soups, salads and gourmet sandwiches. Owners Roberta Schulz and Jeannie Dillon saw an opportunity for an upscale establishment and opened Henry & Wanda's, which blended a martini bar concept and their own original food. They kept Out of the Pan for their catering business. Complications with the building's owner arose several years later, so Roberta and Jeannie sold the Henry & Wanda's business to investors and took Out of the Pan (and their fantastic menu) to State Street and went back to a lunch destination. Now Roberta Schulz has reignited the downtown dining scene by opening for dinner and reviving the martini menu (10 glorious ounces at a time). The food is still king at Out of the Pan. Using well-thought combinations of flavorful ingredients, the menu offers a broad range of dining choices. Some personal favorites are the Buffalo Chicken Tacos, BBQ Chicken Pizza, Vegetarian Quesadilla, and much-beloved Signature Salad with its melange of fresh greens, bleu cheese, tart dried cranberries, candied walnuts and a wonderful citrus vinaigrette. In addition to the expansive menu, Roberta and her kitchen team create some mouth-watering specials, like a pork tenderloin with mole sauce, created by team member Blanca, and the awesome daily soups. On Sundays, Out of the Pan also offers plated brunch that is extremely popular. While you wait for your dinner, try one of the signature martinis from the menu or have a glass of wine from their very respectable selection. The martinis will set you back $10, but they are the most generous pour in Racine at 10-oz. of inebriated bliss and all top-shelf. (Other places charge $10 for a standard 8-oz. glass.) The martini list includes standard favorites, such as the Sidecar and Cosmopolitan, as well as recent creations by Jason Collum, a well-known local bartender who started at Out of the Pan with the new evening hours. The restaurant itself is a very pleasant space. Warm red walls serve as a backdrop for original works of art and a massive antique advertising canvass - no replicas here. At one end of the space, floor to ceiling windows add natural light during the day. At the other end are the bar and kitchen, which is open to the restaurant. Let me tell you - there is no one slacking off in that kitchen. When the restaurant is busy, you can see they are working hard. No one is working harder than owner Roberta Schulz, who throws herself into the fray whether cooking, serving, greeting guests or making cocktails. All that hard work has paid off, though, and has made Out of the Pan a place that I recommend to everyone and anyone without reservation. In fact, I think I know where I'm going for dinner tonight.

I have eaten here a few times- dinner, brunch and hosted a bridal shower at the restaurant this past spring. The food has always been delcious. I agree with some people that the service is spotty. Sometimes great, sometimes not so great. Never rude, but it can be slow. However the food always overshadows any issues I have had with the service. Racine has some great restaurants and I would consider this one of them.

We've eaten here a few times in its old location and once in this location and the service is always okay. Last night 4 of us walked in to an extremely rude hostess and rude bartender. The woman asked how many and huffed when I said "4", saying "well it is going to be a minute". I said "okay, not problem, we'll wait at the bar". She then huffed again and said "well, it's going to be a minute...we are down a bartender." Kind of implying we couldn't go to the bar either. We didn't know where to stand then and eventually went up to the bar where we were ignored for a good while and then was glared at by another woman behind the bar. After that, we had had enough of being treated like we were a pain in the butt to a place we were about to spend money on drinks, wine, dinner and dessert. Our entire group was not in a hurry and all were very understanding if we had to wait but not when two employees are blatantly rude. We all left and went to another restaurant to spend our money.

Love the food, more interesting than almost any other place in town (without paying a lot more). We have had a few things on the menu that weren't great (did they taste this? it sounded good on the menu, but missing the mark). Some of my favorites are the duck quesadilla and buffalo bleu cheese chicken tacos. We regularly eat there for lunch and Sunday brunch (bananas foster french toast is to die for, but the coffee is pretty weak!) Overall, I highly recommend.
