I have been to a lot of states, even down south and I have never had ribs anywhere as good as they are at Oh Dennis'. This is not a fancy place. They serve their food on plastic plates, and salad in plastic bowls, but who cares what they serve it in? The food is amazing! Their shrimp and steaks are wonderful as well and my husband loves their pork chops! I would love to take home a bottle of their bbq sauce....it's like Frank's Red Hot...I put that sh@t on everything!!! So good! I don't even mind having to wait....which be prepared to do....just about any night. The drinks at the bar are always good...especially the Brandy Old Fashions....mmmm...

Great atmosphere and great food! I would put their ribs up against anyone's and their steaks are delicious too. Service is exceptional. If you plan on eating there on a Friday or Saturday show up early or you'll be waiting for a couple hours...although sitting and enjoying a couple drinks prior to dinner is always good! Don't turn down a chance to eat here.

I had heard about oh Dennis through a friend and had also come across it on yelp. So me and my wife decided to give it a try. We got there and the parking lot was pretty full which was a good sign. From the outside it doesn't look very impressive but its a bar/restaurant. Once inside it was how others described. Cozy little place which has good food. You can see the grill/kitchen area when u walk in. There were slabs of ribs getting grilled and it smelled yummy ! The wait was 45min but it was a Saturday night at 7pm. We were seated in the time said. We started off with the bacon wrapped water chestnuts which were great. Then for dinner I ordered the filet and ribs and my wife ordered the pork chop and ribs. We both agreed it was really good. We finished it off by sharing a piece of homemade banana walnut cake with cream cheese frosting which was recommended by our waitress. Wow it was good!! I highly recommend this place!!!

I eat red meat about 2-3 times a year. These instances can be paired up with my visits to Milwaukee. Every time I come to town my parents insist on taking me out to dinner. Every time I ask to return to Oh Dennis!. I've had steak at a great many fancy restaurants and Oh Dennis' rare steak with a baked potato and fried shrimp is hands down the best steak dinner in the country. I don't care that it's served on plastic disposable plates. I don't care that their definition of salad is shredded iceberg lettuce topped with salad dressing in a plastic disposable bowl. And I secretly like that their sour cream comes in the little squeezable pyramid container. Their food is beyond good. Oh Dennis' decor can best be compared to a dive bar, which guess what? I LOVE. The crowd is very casual and ranges from families with children to elderly people out together for a meal. They also have a full bar, which is great since there is often a wait and you won't be seated until your entire party arrives. One of my favorite parts of dinner at Oh Dennis' is sipping on chocolate martinis with my mom. Again, this is my favorite place for steak on the planet. It is worth the drive to Racine and once you try it, it will instantly become one of your favorite restaurants well.

Crowded, noisy, divey ...booths with room for a big belly. The service was friendly and considering the size of the crowd, the wait times were minimal. The meals come on paper plates that sit on top of plastic trays. That's just fine and appropriate. The prices are reasonable as well. My wife ordered the fillet and ribs with a baked potato and a salad; I ordered the small rack of ribs with a side of shrimp, Saratoga fries and salad. The salads were okay ... tomatoes and a couple of croutons would have been nice; a dinner roll or crackers would have improved the salad. The baked potato was large and good; the steak, quite nice. The Saratoga fires were a mixed bag. Some were crispy, most were on the soft side. I've never had these before and don't know if they should be crisp or soft ... I prefer crisp ...but will not have these kind of "fries" again. The side of tempura shrimp ... only 4 shrimp ... okay tasting ... 6 would have been better. The ribs ...?. For the price, I want MORE MEAT. So many 5-star reviews ... mainly complimenting the ribs is what made us pick this restaurant. 3 stars is the best I can give the ribs that must have been cut from an anorexic pig. What little there was did taste good and wsa prepared to a falling-off-the-bone tenderness. That's the best that can be said. Would we come back? Probably ... but not for ribs.

Greatest ribs in the world! I try to come back every time I'm in town. The atmosphere is awesome too. Nothing better than a dive with paper plates.

Like this place- only thing that drives me crazy is the hostess that is always so unfriendly and seems miserable. I think she is a family member of the owners- just wished she would pep up once in a while, sure would make the dining experience more enjoyable from the time you walk in the door. Food is great- ambience is fine..bar feel and dark. Get there before they open as it gets crowded fast.

Come early. No reservations. Rolls of paper towels at your table means its finger lickin good. And it was all delicious. Rib meat just falls off the bone, Steaks tender, flavorful, just as I ordered. I get the vibe here being good ol' basic ribs, steaks and chops served in a super unpretentious bar atmosphere but I was completely turned off by all the plastic-ware. Plastic plates, Plastic bowls. Hot food plastic shall not pass. They wrapped all our left-overs in saran wrap and then put it in a foam box! Kinda over-kill. The environmental footprint of this place has got to be off the charts. It's contrary to the roots of the vibe here. Basic. Give me paper.

1 1/2 wait for cold ribs! I think not! The best rib joints in the south can be the service and food at this place anytime! If you have time to waste and like cold over cooked ribs, then this is your kind of joint!

By far the best rib I have found to date get there early this place fills up quick and does not take reservations.

I had to find out whether the food at Oh Dennis! tastes like victory, as Jeff L. reported, so although I was pretty hungry at the time at which we left the house, we drove the 13 miles (28 minutes) up just past 3 Mile Road in Racine to engage in some empirical verification. The verdict: ehhhh... Granted, we've only gone once. But with a place "this far away", it needs to be pretty compelling on the first visit to merit a second. I enjoyed my bbq chicken sandwich on a yummy, thick focaccia roll. The boyf was not displeased with his burger on focaccia. What was not so cool for him was that it does not say anywhere on the menu that the fries come with a generous dusting of parmesan cheese. Regular readers of my reviews will remember that the boyf categorically refuses to eat cheese. While our waitress did a fine job in other respects, she majorly failed when she didn't connect that the boyf requesting "no cheese" on his burger likely also means that he might not want cheese on the fries. The cheese is completely unnecessary, but I was definitely a fan of the combo of fries, cheese, and ketchup. The main problem with our evening at Oh Dennis! was that it just took too damn long to get seated at a table (30 minutes) and then our food to come out (20 minutes). We made good use of the 30 minutes at the bar, enjoying our beers on tap and watching the food preparation in the kitchen behind the bar. And when I'm sitting in a booth (of which there are many at Oh Dennis!), I'm pretty much golden as long as I have my drink refills and the promise of deliciousness. So I recommend new folk go here at least once. It's got the dive bar feel with top shelf liquour behind the bar and clean bathrooms. The bbq is yummy and the portions are hearty. But I just can't give it more than three stars, since I'm not that jazzed about ever going back.

Been through Racine, from Chicago, for work twice in the last month. Colleague said, "You gotta try Oh, Dennis." Place was closed for vacation first time. Second time, I got there right before closing. HOLY STUFF!!! This place is is amazing. The only thing better than the phenomenal food is the wait/bar staff. Friendly, fast, amicable. The ribs had a beautiful slight char and fell off the bone. I was smart enough to buy a bottle of sauce (if I was smarter, I woulda bought a case) -- great balance of spice and sweet. Onion rings were off-the-chart. Took home a "philly style" ribeye sandwich (medium rare) that I cannot wait to dig in to. I WILL BE BACK and I will bring others. Great ribs, great place. Thanks!

This place is tough to review because the ambiance says "dive", but the food is so good. If you're in the mood for ribs, this place never disappoints. The prices are reasonable, the food is great, and you'll leave full. The service has always been good every time I've gone, and the food has always come to the table in 20 minutes or less. A little long to wait at times, but if you show up at Oh Dennis, you're in the mood for the food, and you probably don't have an issue with waiting a bit. Seating is hard to get if you arrive much after 5pm, they only seat about 30. The restaurant is dark, the ceilings are low, the tableware is classic picnic style. Parking is tight, and you enter the building from the rear. No, not that door, the other one. The have a full bar, although I haven't had anything but Guinness here. As far as food in Racine goes, this place is on the list of "must try". But don't say you weren't warned before you went. But, you'll probably go back again as long as you are in the mood for it.

It's really like entering onto a movie set, but the best part is not the atmosphere, is the food. The ribs are delicious, the cake is awesome and the service is great. Worth going out of your way to go there!

This is one of our all time favorite places. My husband has deemed it the best place for ribs. He's tried many kinds--in and out of state--and no other place comes close. We like the dark, old-school, casualness of the place. We always get there early to have a drink at the bar first, and then grab a table before it gets crazy. I really want to give them 5 stars, but just couldn't since they switched their fish fry from cod to haddock. I know their specialty is not the fish fry, but I really preferred the cod. Please, please, please bring the cod back--if you do, I'll give you the 5th star!

Some of the best ribs I've had in a long time. I had the full rack with the seasoned fries and it was absolutely delicious. The fries are fresh, hand cut, and sprinkled with parmesan cheese straight outta the fryer. The ribs are fall off the bone fantastic. Their signature sauce is just the right mix of spicy, sweet, and tangy. If you live in Racine (or even if you don't), definitely check this place out. It's amazing! It's easy to miss though, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled when you're on the way.

O denny, how I love you so. Oh Dennis is a Racine institution. The anticipation of going to chow on the delicious bbq is heightened by the fear that upon arrival, the parking lot will be empty and with one glance your groups collective excitement will be crushed. But, if your crystal ball informs you that today is the day, you are in for a great meal. The decor and building itself may discourage the faint of heart (or your big city friends), but the ambiance is what makes the place. There is a large bar, pool table, open grill, and minimal lighting except the glows of neon beer signs. The food is served on disposable plates and bowls. I have never had a bad meal here, and it is definitely worth the wait. I dream, yearn for, and crave their ribs constantly. The last time I was here, all I could think is--this is Racine. Oh Dennis is casual, a bit grimy, but under that tough exterior it is quality.

I make it to Racine, WI once in a blue moon. Do you know how I plan when I'm coming? I have my mom check to see if O'Dennis' is going to be open. If its closed, I'm not coming. I like their ribs that much. I like them so much (because their sauce is wonderful, the quality of the meat is excellent, and they are cooked to the point where they just FALL off the bone) that I refuse to eat ribs anywhere else. Ever. And I LOVE ribs. This is the type of sacrifice I make for O'Dennis'. O'Dennis' is so good that I took my grandparents there for their 60th Wedding anniversary. Nothing says happy 60th like wiping BBQ sauce off your loved ones chin with a papertowel (it was touching, I cried a little bit. Seriously.). Look, O'Dennis' looks like a ramshackle bar off the side of the road, and when you walk in the, the dark bar, the arcade machines, the checker tablecloths and paper towel holders on the tables confirms your suspicions. But inhale. Deeply. You will not be disappointed. Unless you are all into that "no-meat" thing. Then you will be disappointed -- Disappointed in yourself that you do not eat meat. Because it smells that good. And thats just the smell, just WAIT until you put it in your mouth. You will not be disappointed. Unless you don't eat meat, if that is the case try their mashed potatoes. They are good and will salve your meatless wounds. O'Dennis' is pricey, but, one look around and you can immediately see that the last time they updated the decor was... never. But fear not that money is being put back into the quality of the ingredients. While O'Dennis' isn't much to look at your mouth doesn't have eyes, so it will not be disappointed. Nor will you.

I'm from Milwaukee and love ribs. This place has better ribs than ANYWHERE in Milwaukee! (Including Speeds and Saz's) The place is a little tacky, so know that going in. However, if you are about the food, come and get it. When it's my birthday and I get my choice of where I want to eat. . . this is the place on the top of my list! Call before making the trip to make sure they are open.

It was still good. I must say I rather have the delicious steak over the ribs. Deep fried ribs, finished off on the grill dipped in sauce.

Can't say much besides we walked into an hour and a half wait. The servers kept waking past us with plates of ribs that looked no bigger then a Mic rib, not worth the wait so we left :/

  • David B.

I'd say they have the best BBQ in town. They have very limited hours, but huge demand, so they are consistently busy. It's a casual atmosphere, so much that they serve on paper plates. Other than the paper plates and packed-to-the-doors busyness, this is one of my favorite places around.

  • Gary O.

Typical WI bar atmosphere but you can't beat the food and prices. Enter through the back door. Fabulous smoked ribs and great steaks. Three of us had fillets that were cooked to perfection. Quality is good as but half the price of a higher end steakhouse. My buddy said the ribs were the best. Dinner hour was packed so come early or later.

Best damn ribs within 5 counties...maybe beyond. A must stop when in the area. Docked a * for not doing homemade Bloody Marys anymore...come on, drop the mix and go back to the signature Oh! Dennis bloody!

My favorite place for ribs whenever I come back to town. A little on the pricy side, but worth it for sure.

  • Angela R.

What a great place! The food is wonderful and you can't bet the prices. My husband and I always have had great service too. We could careless at all that the food being served on plastic plates it is the food that matters and that is outstanding! I had the steak bruschetta special and I woke up the next day still thinking of that steak. The specials are listed on the website each week, if you see Steak bruschetta it is definitely worth a stop especially for the price under $14. The ribs are fantastic!!! We will definitely be back soon and are telling all our friends and family about this place.

The service was ok and the atmosphere is nice but my steak was cooked wrong. When I sent it back, it came back burnt. I would go back but I wouldn't order a steak again.

BBQ ribs are incredible ... But .... The bone-in ribeye is out of this world. Gets crowded, so be prepared to wait for a table.

The best ribs and great steaks!!! Staff is very nice.. You may have an hour wait in the weekend but well worth it..

I love ribs, and I am ashamed to say that I have probably ordered them everywhere Racine will sell them. Oh Dennis's ribs are phenomenal. Absolutely Phenomenal. The restaurant itself needs better lighting and a bit of an update, but it's really not that much of a deterrent.

Let me start by admitting that I want to give Oh Dennis! a 5-star rating. This is seriously good food - Sweet Barbeque Jesus, it doesn't get any better! Steak & ribs, smoked pork chop & ribs, ribs & ribs with a side of ribs... it's all fantastic. But why, oh why, does it have to be such a craptastic hole? The building itself is a derelict gray roadhouse on the edge of a quarry. The paved parking lot is a recent innovation from the previous gravel lot. Before you make the trip, be sure to call ahead and make sure they're even open. The owners frequently shut the place down for long vacations. If you're lucky enough to catch them while they're open, the entrance is on the back side. When you walk in, you're immediately overcome by two competing urges: running in for the heavenly aroma of BBQ and grilled meat, or running away from the heavy cigarette smoke. The entrance half of the building is a bar with the grill behind it. The restaurant portion is on the raised area in back. If you've decided to stay, you'll need to put your name in for a table (on the ledge, by the ramp). Beware of the grouchy hostess/owner. If you come on a busy weeknight, be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes. If it's a weekend, bump that up to 45 minutes or longer. And no, they do not take reservations. If you want their ribs, you are going to suffer for them. Should you survive the waiting area gulag, you'll be taken to a table where you'll notice the odd lighting - there are no incandescent or fluorescent lights. All light is provided by a multitude of neon bar signs. It's actually kind of cool, but a little irritating on the eyes. The waitresses are all very pleasant, if occasionally hurried. A warning before looking at the menu - this place is not cheap. The entrees run $20 - $30 and you'll easily hit $50 per person with drinks. You get soup or salad with the entree, which is a slight molifier. But, when spending that much, you wouldn't expect to be served on plastic dishes, would you? Guess again. It's incredibly tacky, not to mention completely wasteful. (I'm about to knock this thing to 3-stars just thinking about it.) That being said, the food is just damned incredible. The ribs are slow-cooked then grilled, and falling off the bone. Their filets are perfectly grilled to your desire. There won't be a veggie on your (plastic) plate that isn't deep-fried or oozing butter. Our last trip was with a group of 9 friends and the whole table went silent for at least 5 minutes after the food arrived, which is pretty damned impressive for loud-mouths like us. So... suffer we do, and suffer we will, but I've never had better ribs anywhere. And Sweet BBQ Jesus knows I've looked!

Ribs. Get the large rack if you're hungry. Coleslaw excellent. Saratoga chips are a good fries substitute. Whole family likes it here.

Why, oh why did it take me so long to go here? I was born and raised in Racine and for some reason I never went to Oh Dennis! Until I moved away. I mean I'm only in Milwaukee, but gah! Perhaps it's a good thing, one could go broke eating here often. Let me start out by saying I do not like ribs, or should I say (did not) until I tried them here. Went here with family, who insisted I must try them. I agreed to try one rib..as long I as could Order the chicken fingers. So I got the chicken fingers which are tempura battered and may I say delish!! My boyfriend, my brother and my sisters boyfriend got the ribs of course, my sister got the petite filet and my daughter got the wings. We also ordered a few apps: mozzarella sticks, which are wonton wrapped, breaded cauliflower and more wings. I sampled a bit of everything and all I can say YUM, YUM! I mean WOW! I was truly impressed! The wait time on a Saturday was extensive, I think we waited 1 and 45 mins for a table and waiting room is very tight, and parking is a pain. All that said I would do it again and again. I will definitely be back and I will be getting the ribs! The meat is so tender and moist. It's well seasoned with just the right amount of smoke, and the sauce, ummm ya! I bought a bottle before we left. I ordered my fries unseasoned as I was informed they sprinkle them with Parmesan cheese, which I love, just not on my fries. They are hand cut and yummy! Even the salad as simple as it was, just iceberg, carrots and some red cabbage, was cold, crisp and fresh. The only thing I wasn't over the moon for was the garlic bread, which is grilled and has a little too much smoke flavor for my liking. Our server was great, especially considering how busy they were. Never had an empty glass, and she was warm and friendly. It is a bit pricey, but trust me you will not leave hungry. Best ribs ever!

They make the best ribs and fish fry in town. Fish fry batter is very flavorful. Bacon wrapped chestnuts are highly recommended as well. Warning--take out is very slow and given its popularity sometimes the wait for tables is long. Much better atmosphere since smoking was banned.

Finger licking good ribs and barbecue. Fabulous service and friendly locals. And a dessert list that is impossible to resist. Please please give this place a try. Oh, they also have a jukebox - so awesome.

After being aware of this place for years, then living in Racine County for a few more years, I finally got around to trying this place last night. Diagnosis = delicious! The ribs are very good. The sauce is pretty much perfect and very flavorful. Next time I'll ask for some extra sauce. I also had their 6 oz filet. I asked for it medium rare and it was fantastic. I actually liked the steak just as much as the ribs, maybe even a bit more so. The salad before the meal was very plain, but the ranch dressing they served with it was great and may have been homemade. We had mozzarella sticks for an appetizer. They were fine but nothing memorable. For dessert we tried their chocolate cake. It was a huge portion, thank God we shared it. It was pretty typical chocolate cake. I washed this all down with a (very reasonably priced) Crown and Coke. It's true, you are served on thin plastic plates and the atmosphere and décor is very low brow, but so what? I'd recommend a visit, the food is worth it.
