Great food and a nice pub-like atmosphere. If my wife and I are ever in Racine again without the kids we'd love to try it again. Not that it wasn't kid-friendly, it's just hard to play a game of pool or enjoy a beer sampler with a 2 and 5-year-old running around. I had the Bangers and Mash, which apparently is a kind of traditional Irish meal...exceptionally good. My wife loved the fish tacos and the kid's corn dog and fries were good, too. Plus it's on the same block as the gelato shop, so that's a bonus!

Great food. The atmosphere is relaxing and fun. Bacon on Thursdays with a drink. Ha who would have known that is such a great idea!

As bars go this place has everything- a great staff, a huge back bar, tons of taps & craft bottles. For a hangout? It's just never been my vibe. But it is a hell of a bar, just not my scene... That said: when it's restaurant time, this place really delivers. I've tried a good 2/3 of their menu, and all the apps, and never have I had a single bite of bad food! Never! Some highlights are the ahi tacos, the shrimp balsamic toast points, and the shepherds pie, but honestly everything is not just good, but between flavor and presentation, it's almost special. Speaking of special, the menu constantly rotates a bit, seasonally, as does the beer menu. What doesn't change is the secret "Ivanhoe Jamison sauce" - put it on anything !! It's so damn good!

I wouldn't make it a point to come here. Everything is just okay, and I am sure the bars next door could be better than Ivanhoe's. The menu seems to be filled with what appears to be a long craft beer selection, but once you'd had them all you are out of luck. If you like to use Untapped, this is not the place for you. It will be hard for you to find a new beer on their list because the beers don't rotate seem often. Apparently you can buy (or receive, but that's the part I don't understand) tokens for the bar. The token serves as a $4 rail drink or beer. Keep in mind, if your drink is $5, you will then be paying $1, if you cash in your token. I think you'd have better service at Ivanhoe's if you sat at the bar rather than at a table. If you are looking to play a game, they offer bar Janga it's a huge wooden set, too.

service was terrible and so was food. they fed me a raw piece of meat and i ended up getting sick from it.... be careful if you ever eat from here. the owner is a slum lord

Hit and miss in terms of service. They have a better selection than most bars in downtown Racine and make some good cocktails. I've heard this before and now last time I was there I experienced the rumored terrible service. By no means was the bar packed, and it took 10 minutes to order a drink standing at the bar and 15 for one of my friends. By the second drink we closed out our tabs and it was the first time I've ever NOT left a tip. Up to this point, I haven't had much negative to say about Ivanhoe, but this recent visit left a bad lasting impression.

In from out of town and were referred here by some folks at another bar. We all had a lot of fun. Service was great, shot some darts, played some music. Overall good experience.

First stop in Wisconsin. Looked like it had some good reviews, so thought I would give it a shot. Service was great, I had the Reuben, not bad but not the best I ever have had, good beer selection made up for the mediocre sandwich.

Overall a decent experience at Ivanhoe. I went with a large group (10) on a Saturday early evening (5:30 reservations). The place was empty. By the time we left around 7:30, a few patrons had come in. The place looks tiny from the outside but is actually fairly large. The space really suffers from a lack of brightness. There was plenty of light, but all the furniture and floors and walls were dark and made me feel closed in. Ivanhoe has a long history as an Irish pub in Racine, it's on the back of the menu. They have quite a few taps available, and a small wine list. The wine serving I received was fairly generous. Our server was pleasant. The menu really lacks vegetarian and health-friendly options. The only vegetarian choice (other than deep-fried appetizers like cheese curds, etc) was a portabella sandwich. The three main entree salads all had meat. I wasn't in the mood for portabella. The menu is mainly burgers and sandwiches. They offer one fish option, a cod fish fry with Guinness beer batter. I asked the server about the fish and he told me it was fresh and brought in daily. Ivanhoe didn't strike me as a top seafood place. To my pleasant surprise, my fish was very good. I did have to request tartar sauce, and the rye bread was stale, but the fish was quite good. They offer either sweet potato fries or tatertots as the potato side. I opted tatertots. The portion was plenty, but I noticed my companions who ordered sweet potato fries got a very small portion. I was also pleasantly surprised with presentation and the side salad. Nice white places I would have expected at an upscale restaurant. Very intentional presentation of the salads. Several of my companions ordered the reuben and expressed their disappointment by leaving most of the sandwich on their plates. Kevin K. told me his reuben was terrible. Given the mixed reviews of the food and the uncomfortableness of the decor, I award Ivanhoe 3 stars - decent and middle of the road, fine for a friendly dinner, but no place to celebrate an anniversary.

For a bar, this place is pretty great. Its Irish whiskey selection is unmatched in southeastern Wisconsin. I've been here quite a few times for after work functions and it always works out well. But for food? Careful, or you may be gouged. Today for lunch I ordered the Shepard's Pie. At $13 it was one of the most expensive items on the menu (sort of unusual as shepherd's pie is one of the easiest dishes to make). First it came with a small-ish side side salad. Not great bu,t not bad either. But what irked me was the 3/4 cup main dish that was brought to me (with no spoon). The volume of the 2 slices of rye toast it was served with was surely greater than the "pie". Really, it was more of a side of mashed potatoes with some chunky gravy than a main dish. For $6-$8 dollars I wouldn't have been quite so let down but $13 was completely out of line. When I mentioned this to our waiter she only responded by laughing. Other dishes are not priced inversely to their size; my friend paid $8 and got a fairly substantial sandwich with a cup of soup. So you may want to ask the waiter/waitress just how much food you'll be getting.

Once again I find a place with great fries but they give what looks like half a portion. Aside from that this place looks good and seems like a soccer related sports bar in downtown Raciine. Some locals told me this was the best bar in the area so I checked it out. A nice looking place with an international faire as many flags are represented throughout this English style pub. Good food and beer.

Decent bar fare. Had a hard time deciding what to get. Ended up with the mahi mahi tacos. They were great. Weird that you get fries with tacos but it was fine. Bloody Mary tasted a lot like pickle, not my favorite flavor. For Racine there didn't seem to be much to choose from for a lunch place. Dark bathroom. Need to fix the lighting.

Pretty good bar if you are looking for Celtic cuisine. They have a wee bit of everything and the atmosphere is nice. They have a lot of TVs for soccer as well.

My girlfriend suggested we visit this place for a bite to eat and a brew... I'm so glad we went!! I love Irish pubs, and this one definitely tickled my fancy! The only reason I'm not giving it the ultimate 5-star review is because of our waiter- he was close to the end of his shift and clearly ready to leave. By the end of our visit, he left and we got a happy helpful waitress. No excuse for the waiter, though. The beer list is great so I tried a couple different brews. I had the lambeau stew to start- it was sooo yummy!!!!!!!! Cheese soup with brats and veggies- helloo?! YUM!! Get it now!! I also ordered the chicken fingers, those were really good too. A bit heavy on the breading, but I appreciated they were made in house. The rest of the menu was great with a large variety too! Ivanhoe's atmosphere is really cool- it has that dark, aged Irish pub feel with a nice decor. I would absolutely come back, especially on a Friday night to check out the night scene.

This place is solid for food and drinks. The kitchen closes a bit early. If the kitchen is open, the food is great and the menu is huge. I'll be back.

We had heard about the Ivanhoe from the Bottoms Up documentary and wanted to try some of the historic bars. Racine seemed like a good place to start. We went for lunch on a Sunday. And we were very impressed. Love the way the bar has kept it's historic look and decorations. The service was excellent. The bartender attentive and friendly. Admittedly, it was a Sunday and the place was fairly empty. But the few customers that were there were an interesting mix of young and old. The Bloody Mary was a good place to start on a Sunday. But the beer selection was good too, so it was hard choice. Some of both - yes! We split the burger that was on special that day - the portion was large and it was enough for us. The sweet potato fries were excellent. The burger was cooked perfectly and they had no trouble with splitting it to two plates for us in the kitchen. If we are ever in Racine again - it will be a must stop.

overall, i would come back.. one of the more decent places in Racine. 1. service- really good- the ladies were very nice, accurate (that's always clutch in a big group of people) and really nice about our "in and out" style of people. 2. food- pretty good. i wouldn't' say it was "omg", but it was definitely one of the better meals I've had in Racine. steak fries were decent, unusual with Parmesan sprinkled on top, but to me- not seasoned enough. my favorite by far was the portobella panini on foicca bread. that was SO good! and very delicious- I'll get that again. 3. price- decent, $10 / entree. not terrible, but i'm very used to Chicago prices. also- love the happy hour drinks- $4/ huge glass of rum and coke. pretty awesome. that's the best thing about racine- much lower costs. 4. atmosphere- this is where major points got taken off.. this place is pretty run down and it's kind of dive-y but without meaning to be dive-y which just makes it a little bit sad. it's also really hard to walk around for a bar even though it's also a restaurant.

Best bar in the world! Bartenders are great and the drinks are awesome. I love this bar, it's my kind of place! :)

Oh' da Hoe... what is there to say? The building has a long history as a bar and the owner strikes a perfect balance between the old and new with the decor. Upon entering, you notice the old, darkly stained wood, ancient cash register, and old timely beer and tobacco signs. The layout is a bit narrow, but what do you expect in a 100 year old building? The crowd is interesting to say the least. The hoe attacks the full spectrum from Racine. You have college kids and their parents to the regular working class Joe Blow. It is also a common spot for local professionals. The beer is pricey for Racine but not outrageously so. I personally enjoy the whiskey selection. Honestly, you go to the hoe because you know what to expect.

Grilled cheese with Irish Harps cheddar? AMAZING! Double hoe? AMAZING! Deep fried Snickers bar? Well, now the Ivanhoe owes me for my Gastric Bypass. Delicious, great service, great food, and I will DEFINITELY be be back.

I frequent Ivanhoe since their food always aims to please. I love Ivanhoe's mahi tacos and my husband loves the grilled buffalo wings and their filet. Now that it's smoke free, I love it even more since I can take my kids in on a Saturday afternoon after walking along the beach and eat a delicious late lunch.

I haven't been in a while and I was there on Friday 3/2/12 and got the blue gill fish fry. Amazing. I was stunned. Light flavorful batter like my dad used to make, crisp non-oily tater tots and a delicious salad with fantastic balsamic vinaigrette. I haven't eaten here in a while and I must say that the quality has gone way up. Way to go Ivanhoe staff!

It was July 4th and I found myself in Racine with no real plans. Not being interested in watching money burn (aka fireworks), I really wanted to find some good beer. I asked for suggestions at the front desk of the Marriott Racine where I was staying. They handed me a preprinted sheet of bars and restaurants, but specifically recommended the Ivanhoe. The Ivanhoe was close to the hotel and it promised a decent beer selection. Alas, no microbrews, but better than the average Wisconsin bar. It was pretty easy to find and there was a parking garage about a block away which only cost $1.50. So walking into Ivanhoe, we were immediately pleased with the atmosphere. There was lots of dark wood and the lighting was primarily coming from various antique lamps hanging from the ceiling. The music was not too loud, but still added to the experience. A bartender indicated that we could sit where ever we wanted, so we chose a table on what appeared to serve as a stage on different nights. Now we came to the crucial moment. What would they have to drink? On tap, I believe that had: Guinness, Boddingtons, Sam Adams, Smithwicks, New Castle, Blue Moon, something from Bell's, and Hacker Pschorr I started with a Smithwicks and my wife had the Bell's. The beers arrived promptly and were served at a good temperature. We were off to a good start. For an appetizer we had the seared peppered tuna. It was very tasty and cooked to perfection. That is in this case, not overcooked. It took us awhile to eat this and enjoy our beer. We told our server that we would be taking our time and enjoying ourselves and she had no problem with that. For the main course we went with the Triple P burger with Kobe Beef and an order of the lobster mac and cheese. My wife and I like to mix things up and share to get a wider experience. We were also ready to try more beer, so this round consisted of a Boddingtons and a Black&Blue. The food was delicious and everything was served with a smile. For dessert we went with the server's suggestion of a white chocolate raspberry truffle martini. I didn't pay attention to what their more traditional dessert offerings may have been, because I was in the mood for drinking. When she saw that I was going to share the drink with my wife she surprised us by bringing a little mini glass of the same drink! The evening ended with a little discussion of Irish whiskey. I admitted that I don't have any experience, but that I do drink Scotch occasionally. The Red Breast was suggested and served in a large snifter. I enjoyed the service and the whiskey. Overall I enjoyed my visit to Ivanhoe. The food, the drinks and the service were all excellent. I would definitely return if I found myself in Racine again. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I would have liked to see some local microbrews on tap. That would have made Ivanhoe perfect.

If you think you have experienced the epitome of a Midwestern trashy bar; think again! The experience is basically exactly like standing around in a restaurant full of bumblinng men drunk on draft beer. There's no music, service is laughably slow, although one thing they do impeccably is consistently attract hoards of unintelligent, unattractive portly women who will expect you to buy them a drink if you socialize with them out of pity for more than 15 seconds. Poor and thirsty...hmm...sorry honey, not my type.

This place brings in a decent crowd. but really needs to upgrade, because its hard to move around. I know its an eatery too, but I haven't been there for that, just cocktails. It can be hard to get a drink because of the amount of people that sit around the bar. So the potential is there but it hasn't been realized, I found that the pool table really has become cumbersome at Ivanhoe's

Patrick Todd the general manager gave us literally the worst service I have ever had in my entire life. He told us we had a 25 dollar min even tho our friend ordered one beer. He then charged us 25 dollars for one beer. I have never been so disgusted in my entire life. I will be taking my business to Toad Hall which has wonderful service and a great beer selection.

Nice owners, very involved with YPR (Young Professionals of Racine). However, the place always smells with smoke, so we don't go there, even for YPR events. Will try again when the smoking ban is effective July 5. They do have good food for catering.

Whenever I have been in here, it's been kind of dead. The history of the building is listed on their menu, and it really feels like a place trapped in time. The food is great - fresh and inventive. The cheese curds are a must!

I find myself going back a couple of times a month, either for drinks with friends or a quick lunch. On the upside, one of the few places I have found to be open and serving food on a Sunday. Huge beer and alcohol selection; if they don't have your drink of choice I would be surprised.

Ivanhoe's food is GREAT. Love the black and blue burger, the rosemary potato salad, the sweet potato fries. Their catering service is great, too. The salads are delicious. Generally well done. I tend to go for lunch so I can miss the bar crowd at night.

I enjoy coming here for occasional martinis with some friends. My favorites are the Dirty Martini (Extra Dirty) and the Naughty Girl Scout. Geeeeez these are not good names...haha The waiter was very friendly, funny, and attentive. The drinks are good, decor is nice and the customers were friendly. I do enjoy the downtown area and the location is great for bar hopping.
