About TGI Friday
TGI Friday is a casual dining American restaurant chain founded in 1965. The term “TGI” is an acronym for Thank God It's and together the name of the restaurant is often announced as Thank God It's Friday. Over the years of its existence, the TV commercials and other advertisement streams have also twisted the phrase a bit and used it as Thank Goodness It's Friday. The restaurant serves alcoholic beverages primarily. However, they are also known for their low-carbohydrate and low-fat menu items to promote a healthy lifestyle. TGI Friday also offers gluten-free items on its menu for those with gluten intolerance.
Besides the cool name, TGI Friday also has an interesting background story of its origin. The founder of the restaurant Alan Stillman lived in a New York-based neighbourhood full of a young crowd, especially girls from the airline and fashion industry. Can't beat the food for the price. Ordered the roast beef sandwich - au jus was incredibly flavorful. Meat wasn't piled on, but it was $6 so I didn't expect it to be. Fresh toasted roll was the icing on the cake. I only got a half sandwich on my 1st visit because I was skeptical...but I ended up back there the next day and I ordered a whole one!

Dear Friar Tuck's Regulars: Thank you for giving up your watering hole for one week in July every year, yet keeping the lights on (however dim they may be) and paying the bills for the other 51 weeks a year. FT is an annual tradition for pilots and a welcome oasis from the justle and bustle of EAA AirVenture. Food is decent, drinks are cheap, and a great place to chill and chat with the bartenders. To me, it's as much part of Oshkosh as watching planes endlessly fly loops.

Friar Tucks is located west of the end of Runway 27 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh and is a popular destination of mine when either flying to Oshkosh or visiting for the annual airshow. I enjoy their hot ham & cheese served with Swiss Cheese on a Dark Rye Bread. I have also enjoyed their Cheeseburger. The prices seemed fair and the service was great.

Like stepping back thirty years. The waitstaff dressed in monk regalia and the facility is dark and decked out to look like a 60's version of a TV monastery or German restaurant. Most of the fair is a la carte sandwiches which are very reasonably priced. I had the little John, a sandwich that could only exist on a menu as classic as Friar Tuck's. Imagine a foot long grilled sourdough baguette that is topped with melted cheese, a foot long Salisbury streak and mushrooms. Overall the food is good, but not great. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a hearty sandwich and some nostalgic atmosphere.

We were NOT there at air show time. But the above comments re: the bill of fare, the quality, and the XLNT service, were right on. Roast beef sandwich on your choice of abt. 6 different breads (I had sourdough): Very good. Waitress was knowledgeable, prompt, and attentive to our needs. She recommended having only 1/2 piece of carrot cake, and that was still a big serving. My companions split a chocolate cake serving, and again, both halves were generous. She recommended against the cheesecake--how often does a wait-person do that?? Next time we're in Osh-burg and need a quick, informal meal, but not fast food, you can bet we'll know where to go!

I'm another Yelper who comes here during the annual EAA AirVenture. The bar food is above par and they have a good selection of drinks. If you fly in to the airshow you can pick up a bus that will take you here. It was always bustling but the servers and bartenders did a decent job at keeping up with it.

I feel inclined to give this place a review (I rarely review though I am a foodie) because it called Friar Tuck's!! I am a Robin Hood fan. Where else can you get 2 glasses of ménage a trois for $5.75?? I would say this is the hooters of Wisconsin. And I had a fabulous mushroom Swiss burger (the special) with mushroom gravy, dill dip with veggies, and french onion soup. Along with a whole other Togo order (chicken focaccia), my bill came out to a ridiculously cheap 23.08. My server was very friendly on top of it. It has cocktail service starting 11 am. And with a bigger domestic beer selection than Georgia's, I feel very welcomed here for my first trip to Wisconsin. I'm very impressed to have eaten at this place, which is next to a super 8 motel and near the oshkosh airport.

Friar Tucks is kind of lost in time, in a mostly good way. It seems to be the place of choice during the EAA AirVenture and then reverts to a townie bar during the rest of the year. The interior is dark and vaguely monastic themed - some wrought iron sconces, wood doors and waitress "monk" get ups that manage to be slightly skanky and unflattering all at once. That said, if you're in the area there isn't much else other than chain restaurants so that makes FT's a good stop. I didn't eat anything here, just stopped for some post Hops & Props drinks (as if I really needed that...). For me, FT fulfilled the two most important criteria - the bartender was friendly and attentive and the drinks were cheap. Three beers and a glass of wine (not all for me) set us back less than $10.

Oshkosh takes a beating every year when half a million crazed aviation enthusiasts (my SO included) flock here in mid-summer for the world's largest aviation gathering, the week-long EAA AirVenture. I was there this past summer and came back for a visit in early fall when the town was its quaint little self again. Friar Tuck's is probably the closest restaurant/bar to the airport, and I suspect it could have gotten by with mediocre food at this prime location. Thankfully it's not the case. I had an awesome crock of French onion soup and forced my way into my SO's plate after he raved about the fantastic Reuben. Neither of us could recall a better version of either. Will definitely come back when we are in town again.

The second night of the Airventure airshow brought me to Friar Tucks. I had been here before in 2007. Although the place was fun in 07 as i watched the Air force bomber pilots play quarter bounce, this time was not as fun. The staff was put off that we wanted to order food and this place is in need of a serious makeover. My business partner who is quite a bit younger than me even commented that he now knows what it is like to live in the 60's. The rolling vinyl chairs and dark dingy lighting sure substantiated his statement. The food is blah and the atmosphere is meh... Yes it is close to the airfield.. But that is about all i can say is good. Should you try it ?? Yes.. So you can relive the 60/70's... Just don't expect much.

This review is for Friar Tuck's restaurant and bar proper, not an EAA flyover. Friar Tuck's is old school. Dark wood paneling lines the walls, the waitresses wear unattractive friar robes, and the food is that old school soup and sandwiches, and it's awesome! Went here with my band as we drove in to play a show in Oshkosh, and we all loved it. I had a great burger, and enjoyed the hot onion slice poppers. The French Onion soup drew raves, as did my bandmates sandwiches. Burgers, soups, sandwiches, pretty good service, for a fair price. Old school dining at its best! And if you're just in the mood to kick it at the bar, there are plenty of TVs showing the game- it looked inviting. I'll definitely be back to Friar Tuck's.

We were looking for a convenient spot just off of Hwy 41 that served food and cocktails when we happened to stumble on Friar Tuck's. Not only did they meet our needs they exceeded them. The bartender was friendly and very effecient. The food was excellent. They cheerfully accomodated our group of 7 and we may not have been the quietest group, but they took it all in stride with a smile. We will be back the next time we are in the area!

I was very excited to try the famous Friar Tuck's sandwiches but unfortunately I had just an okay experience. I did somewhat enjoy the themed costumes that add to the Robin Hood feel as it added to the atmosphere. The service that we received was sub par even for a restaurant that seemed to be somewhat busy. The server made my family seem as though it was not at all a joy to take our order and seem to disappear at times. The combination platter we ordered for an appetizer was okay and the French onion soup did highlight our meal that was also ordered as an appetizer. Dinner arriving did produce some okay food as well but did not wow as I expected from everything that I heard prior. The 1 pound burger was very well cooked, perfect medium as requested, and good. Everything else ordered was good as well but also did not wow. Overall, an okay eatery that could use improvements in some areas with decent pricing.

Ahh, Friar Tuck's. Anyone who has ever camped under their plane in the North 40 at the Oshkosh air show knows them well. These folks have managing a crowd down to an art. The waitresses keep their cool while juggling the barrage of sunburnt polo shirt-clad pilots that swoops in every July, and service has never wavered. The food is great all-purpose mostly fried pub food. Some excellent burgers, the crab salad croissant, and cheese curds. Average drinks. Great prices. And a great view of the departing traffic every afternoon after the air show from the patio. I haven't been here during any of the other 51 weeks of the year, but seeing how well they manage the one that we all descend upon them, I can't see that there would ever be any complaints.

We were driving through town on the way home from Door Co., and were looking for something different from all the standard chain restaurants. Friar Tuck's was a pleasant surprise. Being a fan of retro decor, I found Friar Tuck's to be awesome. I felt like I stepped back into the 70s when I walked in the door. It's a dark restaurant/bar with wood paneling, and old leather chairs on gold rolling weels. The lovable friar character was on the signs, the napkins, and the glass that divided the bar and the restaurant area. Overall, it's a monk decor. The glasses and plates were 70s looking as well. A total time warp experience. Quite entertaining how the waitresses wear the silly friar costumes. The service was good, and everything was very reasonably priced. The menu is mainly sandwiches. Our sandwiches were good. A bit on the greasy side. We ordered one side of fries for the two of us and it was plenty. Even though it was very vintage looking inside it was clean and well maintained. If you like a little retro, or just a good deal on food give Friar Tuck's a try. You can't beat dinner for two for $19.00

The combination platter we ordered for an appetizer was okay and the French onion soup did highlight our meal that was also ordered as an appetizer. Dinner arriving did produce some okay food as well but did not wow as I expected from everything that I heard prior. The 1 pound burger was very well cooked, perfect medium as requested, and good. Everything else ordered was good as well but also did not wow. Overall, an okay eatery that could use improvements in some areas with decent pricing.

Ahh, Friar Tuck's. Anyone who has ever camped under their plane in the North 40 at the Oshkosh air show knows them well. These folks have managing a crowd down to an art. The waitresses keep their cool while juggling the barrage of sunburnt polo shirt-clad pilots that swoops in every July, and service has never wavered. The food is great all-purpose mostly fried pub food. Some excellent burgers, the crab salad croissant, and cheese curds. Average drinks. Great prices. And a great view of the departing traffic every afternoon after the air show from the patio. I haven't been here during any of the other 51 weeks of the year, but seeing how well they manage the one that we all descend upon them, I can't see that there would ever be any complaints.

We were driving through town on the way home from Door Co., and were looking for something different from all the standard chain restaurants. Friar Tuck's was a pleasant surprise. Being a fan of retro decor, I found Friar Tuck's to be awesome. I felt like I stepped back into the 70s when I walked in the door. It's a dark restaurant/bar with wood paneling, and old leather chairs on gold rolling weels. The lovable friar character was on the signs, the napkins, and the glass that divided the bar and the restaurant area. Overall, it's a monk decor. The glasses and plates were 70s looking as well. A total time warp experience. Quite entertaining how the waitresses wear the silly friar costumes. The service was good, and everything was very reasonably priced. The menu is mainly sandwiches. Our sandwiches were good. A bit on the greasy side. We ordered one side of fries for the two of us and it was plenty. Even though it was very vintage looking inside it was clean and well maintained. If you like a little retro, or just a good deal on food give Friar Tuck's a try. You can't beat dinner for two for $19.00

Blustery cold - wind whipping outside to well below zero - this was a nice warm refuge for lunch. We had the seafood chowder and a sandwich, great comfort food for a cold day.

I feel inclined to give this place a review (I rarely review though I am a foodie) because it called Friar Tuck's!! I am a Robin Hood fan. Where else can you get 2 glasses of ménage a trois for $5.75?? I would say this is the hooters of Wisconsin. And I had a fabulous mushroom Swiss burger (the special) with mushroom gravy, dill dip with veggies, and french onion soup. Along with a whole other Togo order (chicken focaccia), my bill came out to a ridiculously cheap 23.08. My server was very friendly on top of it. It has cocktail service starting 11 am. And with a bigger domestic beer selection than Georgia's, I feel very welcomed here for my first trip to Wisconsin. I'm very impressed to have eaten at this place, which is next to a super 8 motel and near the oshkosh airport.

Best French onion soup ever!! I will drive 1hr just to get soup! Not a fan of the sandwiches.. Got fish fry once and that was good !! Service is hit or miss at this place.

Stop here every year while at EAA....never disappointed. Be prepared to wait a bit in the evening....gets really busy!

Friar Tucks is kind of lost in time, in a mostly good way. It seems to be the place of choice during the EAA AirVenture and then reverts to a townie bar during the rest of the year. The interior is dark and vaguely monastic themed - some wrought iron sconces, wood doors and waitress "monk" get ups that manage to be slightly skanky and unflattering all at once. That said, if you're in the area there isn't much else other than chain restaurants so that makes FT's a good stop. I didn't eat anything here, just stopped for some post Hops & Props drinks (as if I really needed that...). For me, FT fulfilled the two most important criteria - the bartender was friendly and attentive and the drinks were cheap. Three beers and a glass of wine (not all for me) set us back less than $10.

Oshkosh takes a beating every year when half a million crazed aviation enthusiasts (my SO included) flock here in mid-summer for the world's largest aviation gathering, the week-long EAA AirVenture. I was there this past summer and came back for a visit in early fall when the town was its quaint little self again. Friar Tuck's is probably the closest restaurant/bar to the airport, and I suspect it could have gotten by with mediocre food at this prime location. Thankfully it's not the case. I had an awesome crock of French onion soup and forced my way into my SO's plate after he raved about the fantastic Reuben. Neither of us could recall a better version of either. Will definitely come back when we are in town again.

The second night of the Airventure airshow brought me to Friar Tucks. I had been here before in 2007. Although the place was fun in 07 as i watched the Air force bomber pilots play quarter bounce, this time was not as fun. The staff was put off that we wanted to order food and this place is in need of a serious makeover. My business partner who is quite a bit younger than me even commented that he now knows what it is like to live in the 60's. The rolling vinyl chairs and dark dingy lighting sure substantiated his statement. The food is blah and the atmosphere is meh... Yes it is close to the airfield.. But that is about all i can say is good. Should you try it ?? Yes.. So you can relive the 60/70's... Just don't expect much.

This review is for Friar Tuck's restaurant and bar proper, not an EAA flyover. Friar Tuck's is old school. Dark wood paneling lines the walls, the waitresses wear unattractive friar robes, and the food is that old school soup and sandwiches, and it's awesome! Went here with my band as we drove in to play a show in Oshkosh, and we all loved it. I had a great burger, and enjoyed the hot onion slice poppers. The French Onion soup drew raves, as did my bandmates sandwiches. Burgers, soups, sandwiches, pretty good service, for a fair price. Old school dining at its best! And if you're just in the mood to kick it at the bar, there are plenty of TVs showing the game- it looked inviting. I'll definitely be back to Friar Tuck's.

We were looking for a convenient spot just off of Hwy 41 that served food and cocktails when we happened to stumble on Friar Tuck's. Not only did they meet our needs they exceeded them. The bartender was friendly and very effecient. The food was excellent. They cheerfully accomodated our group of 7 and we may not have been the quietest group, but they took it all in stride with a smile. We will be back the next time we are in the area!

This place has awesome YUMMY food, there cheese curds, sandwiches are very good, the French onion soup is mouth watering!!! And a great kids menu also! We will Definetly be ordering from here again!!!
